I thought we needed a poll. Discussion can stay in the other thread. Names taken from the current 12 favourites on Oddschecker.

A N Other
aka Bo Svensson

A N Other
aka Bo Svensson
Not mentioned at all on Oddschecker, and everybody else stops at about 80/1.
-
I don't know enough about most of them to say, but I'd like to register an anti-vote for Gerrard.
-
I’ve gone for Fat Frank.
There are not many names that inspire.
He’s got form for pushing the younger players and I think having a household name, he may attract a slightly better player. He’s also played under some tactically astute managers.
-

This. Can we have a which manager we don't want poll, please?
-
I don't know enough about most of them to say, but I'd like to register an anti-vote for Gerrard.
Need to start a 'not new manager' poll to see who's least favourite.
-
I'll do it.
-
Nah, AN Other meant I only had to click once.
Unless there's a way to rank our choices, which would be fun.
-
I'll do it.
Good man - can simplify categories by putting "three centre half merchants" in as one block.
-
Gone for A N other. Always linked to us, never gets the job.
-
Gone for A N other. Always linked to us, never gets the job.
He never gets any job, there must be a reason. Maybe he lacks presence?

Not foreign sounding enough. Gets beaten to jobs by N E Juan.
-
A N Other: Koeman or Martinez…admittedly both unrealistic but I either don’t want, don’t know enough about, never heard of or think they’re shit of the names listed in the poll
-
I'll do it.

I would black ball anyone that goes with 3 centre backs, like Martinez for example who's been mentioned.
-
Potter taking an early lead. No votes so far for Hjulmand Province.
-
Potter taking an early lead. No votes so far for Hjulmand Province.
I don't know who he is, but I can vote for him if we're worried about hurting his feelings?
-
Potter taking an early lead. No votes so far for Hjulmand Province.
Hjulmand's domestic record is shocking.
-
I voted favre. Definitely someone we should be looking at.
How anyone can vote for lampard ill never know. He is a awful manager. Derby fans couldnt wait to get rid of him.
-
Potter taking an early lead. No votes so far for Hjulmand Province.
Hjulmand's domestic record is shocking.
We've switched to Heinz anyway, it hasn't been the same since Bob Carolgees stopped doing the adverts.
-
I'm rooting for Zinedine Zidane. I think, by association, that ZZ as manager will make me appear sexy and brooding. RAWR!
-

My other half agrees with you on that.
-
AN Other is leading so has he got any PL experience?
-
Favre for me. Off the runners and riders, he's the one with the standout CV.
-
Potter taking an early lead. No votes so far for Hjulmand Province.
Hjulmand's domestic record is shocking.
And he has not done much managing Denmark other than a streaky win at Euros 20.
-
So looking at the 2 polls, most of us could probably put up with Potter, Favre, or Fonseca if not exactly enthused. yay!
-

Yep, I'd at least not be dismayed by any of those.

Tedesco - an emotional rollercoaster
-
Tedesco - an emotional rollercoaster
Isn't being a Villa fan that anyway? ;)
-
I've gone for Fonseca just based on record, style and what kind of manager I think we need at the minute.
For me, Hjulmand and Gerrard would be the same problem - my mate, reckon he'd do a job, honest. Can we cast our net wider than 'our mate', please? You know, to people with actual credentials?
-
Of that list I’ve gone with Favre because he played for Clan of Xymox. Or was it Neuchâtel Xamax? Dutch synth band or Swiss football team, much of a muchness.
-
A N other because no option for Brenda at Leicester.
The day we start thinking a manager at a club like that is beyond us is the day we should pack it in.
-
Yeah I'd go all out for Rodgers too
-
Gone with A N Other
I foresee Harry Rednapp showing up with Frank Lampard and John Terry as assistant coaches .......with the club relocating to the South Coast :)
-

Terry/ Lampard dream team, or Tampard for short, though if they bring Eddie Newton with them it can be Tampon.
-

Just think If it was Gerrard , It would be Stumble and Fall after A Day :)
-
If as a club we’ve decided Dean Smith is no longer good enough for us having achieved 11th last season and to use purslow’s mantra of wanting progression, then it can only possibly be someone like Rodgers he has in mind if he wants to get into the top half of the league. Rodgers has already proven he can do that with Leicester, so it’s a n other for me. Surely Purslow wouldn’t want to dumb down on his own expectations and more importantly ours.
-
Rodgers would be next level. Potter would be a decent shout as would one or two of the Europeans mentioned. Gerrard, Lampard and Terry would be too inexperienced.
-
Come one, which user is Purslow and voted for Gerrard?
-
I’m hoping for Erik Tan Han but he’s not on the list
-
Come one, which user is Purslow and voted for Gerrard?
I think it's pretty obvious.
-

I haven't read enough then.
-
I've just voted for Fonseca, I haven't a fucking clue why.
-
Good choice, that's who I voted for. Again, based on not very much. 🙂
-
Good choice, that's who I voted for. Again, based on not very much. 🙂
And I had you down as the secret Gerrard voter. You think you know somebody...
-
I told you to keep that quiet!
-
If you have not worked out why Stevieme is a terrible idea, think Houllier wanking himself into a bleary eyed frenzy as he gazed longingly at the this is Anfield sign.
Then times that by a hundred and watch how we are demeaned by him and the media to the point of absolute irrelevance.
Fuck him and all who sail in him.
-
Amen.
-
Roy Hodgson on a short contract until the end of the season
-
Fuck off
-
I don't like using the 'other' option in votes like this so I went for Favre but he's not my first choice.
-
Roy Hodgson on a short contract until the end of the season
That would be a DISGRACE!!!!11111
-
That is an uninspiring list of options.
The other name I have seen linked is Roberto Martinez which is a slight improvement but he allegedly turned us down before.
-
Roy Hodgson on a short contract until the end of the season
You're becoming more tedious.
-
Roy Hodgson on a short contract until the end of the season
We would at the very least keep clean sheets again.
-
Well with the other candidates on the list I honestly think Roy would be a perfect short term option until the end of the season.
We need to be very careful who we appoint especially with a tough run of fixtures in December.
-
As I said I would love Tan Hag but as he’s not on the list this guy will do
https://youtu.be/NltcZckGmwE
-
Roy Hodgson on a short contract until the end of the season
We would at the very least keep clean sheets again.
Roy is very happily retired playing Warhammer with his chums Christian Benteke and Andros Townshend. Leave him be is my suggestion. ( With thanks and inspiration to Bob Mortimer and Atletico Mince)

He's also busy ordering his vast shoegazing record collection, the largest known outside of the Thames Valley (thanks and inspiration to David Squires)

I know someone who'd take that contract; put us all out of our misery.

'Fonseca' - sounds like a cheap sherry brand.

I always think of the goofy bloke that used to play for Napoli.

Good man, sure is.
-
Quite surprised by the amount that have gone for Fonseca. He’s seem to be in the rent-a-club mould of fluttering his eyelashes at every vacant job out there.
-

Ill drink to that. :)
-
One thing Fonseca would do is spark some pretty nifty Fonz songs. Hopelessly Devoted and Greased Lightning to name but two.
-
While I think Ten Hag is unrealistic anyway, is he just a more exotic Steven Gerrard? Doing well with a traditionally strong club in a weak league?
Lucien Favre appears the standout on the poll list - certainly his Wikipedia 'Managerial Style' seems to fit what we're looking for:
Favre's teams play a dynamic, quick and attacking-minded football where ball possession and change of tempo alternate. This attractive style of play has brought results in every club he has managed. Furthermore, Favre is very skillful tactically, leaving his opponents struggling to penetrate his well-organized sides.
Favre is also well known for his ability to develop talented young players and introduce them into the first team.
Graham Potter would also be the standout, but can't see Brighton releasing unless we pay silly amounts of compensation.
-
Yes I would go for Graham Potter, doing a very good job at Brighton.

If thats the price so be it. The cost of getting it wrong will be much more expensive.

Slaven Bilic anyone? - Currently in China I believe
-
The title of this poll is incorrect. The word permanent needs removing.
Also can we add Dean Smith to the list to vote for rather than the rest.
-
Slaven Bilic anyone? - Currently in China I believe
I mentioned this to a friend earlier. I was told to "F##k off"
-
Sounds like your friend was being polite.
-
He's called me worse
-
I hate to say it but the total lack of potential candidates makes the sacking of Smith look premature and foolish to me. Half the names mentioned I don't believe would take us to the next level and the few who might arguably might not consider us or be available, so, what was the point? We cannot swap Smith for Gerrard, that's insanity.
-
Let’s face it, if Martinez can’t win anything with the squad he’s got managing Belgium, what chance would we have with him managing our squad?
-
I’ve said all along that if we replaced DS then the new manager has to be a few levels up. As such, none of the mentioned does it for me so may as well have stuck with Dean.
-

Lavre is a massive upgrade on smith?

Its kind of how I'm feeling.
I'm backing whoever comes in of course but I don't see there being much difference with most of the names mentioned.
-

Jesus fuckin Christ NO!
-
Coming to the conclusion either Paulo Fonseca or Lucien Favre but I don't know a lot about either!
-
Potter for me. Plays good football - we'd score a lot of goals with Ings or Watkins up front in his side.
-
I don't want Gerrard, purely because the link to him eventually managing Liverpool will never go away.
-
Potter for me. Plays good football - we'd score a lot of goals with Ings or Watkins up front in his side.
You say that but Maupay is not exactly prolific for them.
I think there's a decent coach there but I think we could do better.
-

Totally agree with this. There’s no upside. He either does crap, or he does well and is packed off to Anfield.
-
Surely the upside would be we've done well and he'd leave us in a better position to attract another quality manager.....
-

Ings and Watkins are better than Maupay
-
If it is $tevie Me and he leaves us for Liverpool, then he will leave us as a top 6 club again.
-
"Stevie G's claret and blue stepping stone" has a certain ring to it, not.
-
Didn’t Gerrard also once run a kid over in his car?
-

Yes but it was only once.

And the kids dad had a Kid Creole and the Coconuts album so he probably asked for it.

Jesus fuckin Christ NO!
Yes rich your friend got that spot on.
-

The kid was Annie, and he wasn’t her dad.
-
Torn between Favre and Fonseca. Went for Fonseca as just wondering if the hunger is still there from a 65 year old in what will be his last job probably.
-
Gregg Evans is reporting we will have someone in place by the Brighton game.
-
Gregg Evans is reporting we will have someone in place by the Brighton game.
Bugger! We won’t have anyone in until at least the Palace game at the earliest, then.
-
Gregg Evans is reporting we will have someone in place by the Brighton game.
I agree, think we'd give it to Danks and MacPhee rather than have no one.
-
Can we have Bielsa, just to annoy Leeds?
-
This isn’t going to turn out to be another long running saga like our injury updates is it?
In that case, I’m expecting a new manager by Boxing Day fixture, if we’re lucky.
-
Gregg Evans is reporting we will have someone in place by the Brighton game.
It's not a real story until Ashley Preece has slept on it.
-
If it is $tevie Me and he leaves us for Liverpool, then he will leave us as a top 6 club again.
Yeah, I don't have an issue with being a stepping stone as it can only mean it was a success.
-
Slaven Bilic anyone? - Currently in China I believe

Jesus fuckin Christ NO!

Just to clarify I was on the wind up with him.
-

Yeah, I don't have an issue with being a stepping stone as it can only mean it was a success.
Liverpool won’t want SG to be manager, unless he has been successful, so if that success is at Villa Park, then that’s a good thing. I think that the days of a manager being at a club for season after season are over. They don’t control the clubs as they used to, hence they are called “head coaches” and are as disposable as any player.
-
I think Klopp will be Liverpool's Wenger or Ferguson, and stay there for at least the next ten years.
-
Favre the big one we want yet he isnt even on the shortlist.
What the hell are lange and purslow playing at? Instead looking at martinez. Why??

Havs you seen his name linked absolutely anywhere ??

Can you please tell me that this information is shared with The club. DO THEY LOOK?
CHANGING DEAN SMITH FOR STEVEN GERRARD IS DISGRACEFUL
It looks increasingly likely with all the press and social crap that he is the go to man.
Will the staff respect this poll. Could they have ANY explanation as to why Gerrard would be an upgrade on Smith.
I felt Dean had met his ceiling and the club ambitions if they were to be achieved had to be matched by a coach that had the qualifications, experience and record to Prove he could manage a Massive Club - Gerrard has none of these qualities that NSWE needs to assured of regarding investing in him, we could end up with a bored Lerner again pray god no. Gerrard is not the the solution we need to jump to the next level.
-
Gerrard could be a genius signing as he progresses his career BUT if it was my money not a chance in hell he’d be on the list. I’d be asking serious questions of my CEO and Football Director if in getting rid of Dean Smith the next coach wasn’t an upgrade. I’m hoping Lange has a considerable influence in this discussion as I just don’t think Purslow gets what’s required.
-

I don’t really bother with the speculation. Even if the guy isn’t on the list - it’s your favourite!
-
If this is anything like the list the club are working from then, despite talking the talk, it suggests Purslow has a similar view of our low ceiling as Danny Murphy.
-
CHANGING DEAN SMITH FOR STEVEN GERRARD IS DISGRACEFUL
Yep. Agree one hundred and ten percent.
-
It’s not disgraceful - it’s a gamble.

quite a few managerial appointments are.

Sounds more like you've got some top quality sensi. ;)
-
Sounds like Purslow had a list of one.
-
I suppose we could look at this a bit differently. He only wanted one man, went out and got that man and by the sounds of it all done very quickly and all wrapped up very efficiently.
The Rangers fans said he would never leave. Other fans from other clubs have been saying he wouldn’t leave Rangers for us. So maybe it’s a bit of a scoop?

Same.
-
Sounds like Purslow had a list of one.
So, in a perverse way, you have to commend him for getting him.
-
My money is very heavily on Gerrard having a media driven honeymoon spell with us during which we scrape a few points and Gerrard is hailed by the same media London/Lancashire axis as The Saviour of Aston Villa. In the New Year his actual managerial abilities will be put to the test and we shall start looking over our shoulders at the Chumps League again. Steven Gerrard is a quick fix bounced on the board by Purslow. When Gerrard goes Purslow must go with him. Stevie can go with civility. Purslow thrown out on his arse.

Hmm - think you may be clutching there - setting your sights low enough is a sure fire way of getting your targets
-
Well we got our 6th favourite.

That is exactly what I'm thinking, all the focus will be on Purslow.
