We have a great chance to make it three straight games when we take on Spurs on Sunday. They looked dreadful against Arsenal and the wheels are seemingly coming off there under Nuno. Players look disinterested so if we go there motivated and prepared as we were at Old Trafford we should win the game. They have also conceded the second most goals from set pieces so that will likely be a focus of how we look to attack them. I like our chances.
2-0 Villa - Watkins finally and Mings
-
I hope this isn't one of those "striker bang out of form, needing a goal, and oh hello, here's Aston Villa to oblige" games.
And it's won't be. Cockerney twats 0, Villa 3.
-
I messaged my friends before the match on Saturday that I had the, now thankfully rare, feeling of being on a hiding to nothing. I also mentioned on the last pre match thread that we need to turn those brave defeats into wins. I didn't think it would happen straight away but credit to everyone involved and here's to it being a regular occurrence.
Where we sit now this game holds no fear whatsoever and we should go there with the intention of claiming the three points. If we don't get anything we shouldn't panic, they still have the likes of Kane and Song who are very dangerous but it's a mark of our progress that it will be both surprising and disappointing should we come away with nothing.

A few days after we won the play off final they were playing in the Champions League final.
It's bonkers, I'm fully expecting us to go down there and take the points.
-
Same attitude and game plan as against ManU and we'll get something. I just hope Kane is still sulking and feeling sorry for himself.
-
I am worried that we will be expecting a win and their fans will be expecting a defeat so it's bound to be the other way round. Such is the life of a supporter.
-
I'm looking forward to this I can see us winning 2-1.
-

Of course, but that was my point, let's not get all "Rita Hayworth" about it if we don't get the result we expect, look at the bigger picture.
We won't though if history on here is anything to go by.
-
I expect us to lose as that is still my pavlovian response to winning two on the trot as a villa fan. The old villa would be more than happy to oblige a faltering team like spurs, so if we do win then i might start to become more optimistic in such circumstances.
-
If we do win it will be a case of maybe we can we do a Leicester? I know, I know getting way ahead of myself there but you can but dream. Anyway, it's much better than thinking we might do a Fulham.
-
Villa 1-3 away win
-

spot on
-
The life of a villa fan will tell you this will not go to plan. Generally we are poor in London, Sunday kick offs we are iffy and we have come off the back of a big win. Take a point now and run

The bigger picture for me is for an on form Villa to go to an off form Spurs and take the points. If not now when?
-
Take a point now and run
No way take a point. Go for the jugular Villa.
0-3
-
They're below us in the table, have a seven-worse goal difference, have scored only four.
Another day when once again we leave Harry Kane re-evaluating his life choices. 3-0 us sounds about right.
-

Take a point? What are you so afraid of? We won against both North London teams last season comfortably. Have some faith in what you have seen the last two times we have played vs them. If it was the other way around and were playing how Spurs are you’d be guaranteeing a defeat for us. And rightly so.
-
I think you will find that you've spelled Tottingham incorrectly.
-
We have the tools and the tactical nous to beat these and you can be 100% guaranteed that Dean will demand that we go for them from the off.
I don't think we will ever park the bus again and win, lose or draw long may it continue
-
A draw or better, please. A draw would be a steadying result after Man U, a win will push us to self belief that may carry us through xmas. 1-2.... I just voted draw tho'...
-
All a bit strange these feelings. We must be favourites, dont think anybody even outside if villa would be surprised if we win, and yet i still think Nuno is a good manager and spurs have some decent players, i also think at some stage they will turn the corner.
Saying all that, play like we did against man u and chelsea twice and we should win.
1-3 (Watkins, Ings, Konsa)
-
This widespread confidence makes me nervous.
-
This widespread confidence makes me nervous.
yes can we please stop with this confidence nonsense
-
They cant be as bad as they were against Arsenal can they? Nuno will have got right into them so I'm expecting a reaction performance from them.
That being said if we play well I'm confident that we'll have too much for them.
2-1 to the Villa - Watkins and Mings for us and Son for them.
-
This widespread confidence makes me nervous.
I know exactly what you mean!
Its a cliche, but all about the first goal, if we can get that hopefully their fragile confidence will crumble
-
Just noticed Spurs are in the Europa Conference League - what is that?
Are most of the teams in that competition part-timers?
-
Hopefully most teams and fans this year think 'Shit, here comes the Villa'.
-
Really want to win this, just so I can shove it down the throat of a Spurs supporting mate. After Man U, Spurs is the next team I most want us to beat in the league. You have to expect they will perform better than last weekend at the emirates, but our recent form is brilliant and I’m not aware of any new injuries to our players (Ramsey maybe after his awkward slip) that could fk us. So come hopefully the good times keep rolling. Be nice to get a win at that new stadium too. They can’t have lost too many matches there since it opened. It does look an amazing ground, so hopefully everyone who goes has a great day out- I’m quite jealous!
Come on Villa FTCnDLF
-
On paper, so far this season, we are everything they don't want to play against. We squeeze attackers, we strangle the midfield, we expose defenders on the turn. Please don't revert to type Villa, come on, let's funeral these.
-
Spurs are not in a good way.
Villa are in a good way.
Danny Ings has got a great goal record against spurs
Scored home and away last 2 seasons
0-2 Away win.
Watkins and Ings
I imagine Dean will pick the same team and therefor formation as one vs Man Utd . I would like him to make a change or two that's not enforced but as we won I think he'll just keep same team
The one thing that frustrating is Dean not utilities with the squad game.
That needs to come into play more
-
This a real bell weather for both teams.
Let's smote them
-
I'm on the cautious side as well. We should be full of confidence after last weekend, but they should be looking for a reaction after getting tanked by Arsenal.
1-1
-
Not confident at all, confidence makes me nervous.
-
Spurs play today in the europa confer league
Interesting to see who plays vs Mura a Slovenian football team
-
Hoping for a win 2-1 (Watkins and Ings) but will probably end up as 1-1 draw
-
Sky Bet has
11/10 them
12/5 us
5/2 draw
-
2-0
-
I’m going 2-0 to us the confidence and momentum is obviously growing
-
1-3 to us, I'm hoping the Spurs team play like they did against Arsenal rather than the performance they put in against Man City.
-
4-3 Villa, Ings, Watkins and a Graham Fenton brace.
-
I'll settle for them playing like they have against us since our return. They won't spawn any points out of it this time.
-
One of my favourite ever away days - 2-0 down, Lineker misses a penalty and we come back in and win 5-2.
-
It appears a defeat on Sunday will see Nuno out of a job. I'm struggling to recall Villa fans hating their players in September (or any other month) like the Spurs fans hate theirs. Things look very bleak in Seven Sisters, season ticket holders have been emailed that they can buy up to an additional 5 tickets for Sunday. Fans can't shift their tickets on Ticket Exchange, plenty would take a defeat to see Nuno out. Maybe an overreaction since their derby defeat at the weekend but they don't look in very good shape. Judge for yourselves (https://thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/pl-aston-villa-h-sun-3rd-october-14-00.42906/).
A win tonight might give them a much needed boost of confidence but they look like they're there for the taking. Score first and they'll implode.
-
They can't get any worse, so confident we can go there and win
-
FTSSDCF! 1-3

Can't see too many coaches improving that Spurs squad. It's a mess and Kane isn't trying a leg after not getting his move (I think Kane might be a bit of a decline...rubbish for England too.
So Kane hat trick it is then...
-
I hope and think will beat spurs
Villa are the last team and out of form and misfiring spurs want to play.
We're on such good form in comparison we shouldn't be doubting Dean Smith here to get the result.
I suspect he ll go with same line up
-
Edit
-
How many of the Spurs starting lineup are likely to play on Sunday?
2Doherty
4Romero
14Rodon
3Reguilón
20Alli
29Skipp
8Winks
18Lo Celso
44Scarlett
11Gil
-
Presuming all who played last week are fit to play, then I can't see any changes, unless Tuanzebe comes in for Hause which I can't really see.
Nice feeling to be really looking forward to games like this now and for them to be the ones wary of us going there.

One of my favourite away games as well (especially as I was going out with my Brother and mates after the game and they are Spurzzz fans). Loved that game.
-
Can’t see past a convincing Villa win.
-
in a recent article Ali was reported as saying that his body cant do whit it used to when he was 23 (2 years ago) because of hamstring problems. He is crocked.Too much too young.
-
On the face of it, we're playing them at exactly the right time...which concerns me! They're probably due a win, which would mask their issues and 3 wins on the trot for us is a lot to ask. Would love to be proved wrong on this though.

Probably a few of those I think. Their midfield was a joke v Arsenal first hour and they subbed Alli and someone else at half time.
Think Nuno will go 5 at the back, 3 solid CMs who'll take no risks and they'll just boot the ball up to Kane and Son and hope they can get 1 on 1s and finish off the chances. Make a scrap of the game etc.
I'd still be happy with a point from this as would represent a very solid points haul from September but of course if we play like we did last weekend we can certainly win.
We should outrun their midfield based on the efforts from their one last few weeks so will just come down to which strikers are better on the day, Ollie gave their backline the run around in May and scored a decent goal so fancy him to get off the mark for the season.
1-1 which is fine in my book.
-
Glad Kane scored last night!
-
Dean Smith said hes hopeful that Leon Bailey will start training during the international break. "We’ll assess him then but him and Morgan Sanson are out for this game."
-
Sky Bet has
11/10 them
12/5 us
5/2 draw
That's because we're still plucky little Villa to Sky and most of the msm. They can't comprehend that we're a big club on the rise. We should not be afraid of Spurs. Fuck em and fuck Sky. 0-3 to plucky little Villa.
-
I think them winning last night has done us a favour. Had they lost then the pressure to get a result would be even higher. As long as we keep them quiet for the first 10-15 mins the fans will no doubt start to get a little restless.
-
Alli saying that there are no quick fixes for Spurs, that they are in a transition phase... Lovely, that sounds like the "We go again Squad".

Taking a look at their forums, they are back to their typical whingey, melt-down mode. If we score first (and early) the crowd will turn and shift their anger towards Nuno & Levy. We have to be ruthless.
-
They've still got Son and Kane, two of the best forwards in the Premier League on their day.
-

They could say the same about Watkins and Ings :)
I look all across the pitch and worryingly we are stronger in many areas
-
I've read their forum, a lot were saying first goal and a good start is vital.
Well it didn't do them much good last time we played them, and they were in form then.
-
I think Ramsey will score his first goal
Exactly the sort of match he can excel in.
-
Can't believe the Spurs fans are calling for Nuno to go, after only 6 league games, football has gone barmy, well in that part of North London anyway.
Re Sunday, this is the most confident I've been for a long time of a Villa team going to Tottenham and coming away with 3 points. I expect Spurs to start, with all guns blazing, but believe we can comfortably ride that, going 2 nil Villa.
-
If we can take our chances when they inevitably arise, we won’t lose.
-
We’re going to twat them.

I thought the same when I saw Drummond’s post. Doubt it will be 3-0 though, but we can now dare to dream!
-
Had a beer with my Spurs supporting mate last night and he is not at all confident they’ll win, reckons we’ll batter them. This is very unlike him. Completely dismissed the win against Mura as irrelevant. We’ve got a great chance here if we can weather what I think will be an early storm. I think the manner of the defeat at Arsenal has really rocked their confidence along with shipping 9 goals in 3 matches. Hopefully the Villa players will still be buzzing after last weekend. It took til about Wednesday for me to come down to earth!
-
We’re going to twat them.

-
Good news, Lawro predicting a 2-1 home win.
-
If we don't waste chances like we have been I'm optimistic.
-
At least if we lose, Flin5tone might come back. I've missed him 😪
-
I think this should be an easy win…
But then again this is Villa.
-
My first away game since the pre-lockdown debacle at the Crisp Bowl. Looking forward to the banter, the coach, pre-match drinks and hopefully a Villa win. I think we can at least get a point.
-
McAvennie insists the striker could run riot against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as they continue to struggle at the back.
“Danny Ings could have a field day,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Of course, him and Ollie Watkins are one hell of a partnership. Watkins does so well coming deep while Ings causes problems.
“If Tottenham defend like they have done recently then they are in trouble. They are just awful.
“I think Villa go in as favourites, they will fancy themselves and Ings will fancy a couple of goals."

Best wishes on the experience again. That's really good.
Enjoy the occasion. Have a great time i hear its fantastic stadium so hope you witness a fantastic performance.
Stay safe.

They’ve said on MOTD that there’s a big game on tomorrow. Obviously, we all know that but then they spoilt it by saying it was Scouse v Manca!!

How's it work though say if a syndicate of about 100 (like those lot who worked the Millionaire system years back) decided to all chip in a tenner on the underdog so those odds eventually tumble and the "favourite" odds increase. At which point it's better odds to then put decent money on them to win aswell so you get a decent payout as long as it isn't a draw either way.
Or end up at Gamblers anonymous.
Would say there's a bit of probability to the odds aswell e.g Spurs won't keep losing and will eventually win one and they're more likely to do that at home and away so it's been priced. If Bookies really were pricing Spurs at 3 or 4/1 to win tomorrow due to recent form there's a danger they'd be properly rinsed.
Going on history you might aswell price us at 1000/1 to beat Man. United at Villa Park in any season regardless of form but as last week showed it will eventually happen and then you suffer massive payout.
Have to say though for a neutral who likes speculative punts we're a cracking price given we beat them three months ago and our general form.
-
4-2 to the mighty Villa.

For their audience, they're correct. It'll be tense on the streets of Jakarta tomorrow.

Betting companies don't operate based on chance. The punters do, but they definitely don't.
The initial odds will be based on how they expect people to bet. Not the likelihood of it happening - how likely people are to bet on that particular outcome, at the odds they've supplied.
-
This’ll be tough even though Spurs have struggled in the last few games they’ve still got a hell of a lot of talented players.

Yes, looking at some of the suggested line ups on the Spurs site, there is no way that this is going to be easy today.
If we can get to half time without conceding we should be ok.
Big if.
-
I would take a point now. Spurs is still a very good side despite their recent problems.
I dont like the idea of two strikers for this one due to the space this will create for son and kans
-
They've scored 4 in the league, never more than one in a game. Only Chelsea have kept us out. We've got too much for these.
One of the universe's principal fundamentals, that Aston Villa are better than sp*rs, is about to be reaffirmed.

thats done it.

It's actually a different kind of pressure than perhaps most would've thought at the start of the season looking ahed to this fixture, in that we're almost expected to win the game. It will depend how much the Spurs players want Nuno to stay as their manager, as well as how much of our recent ace form we can bring into the game.
Keep the defensive ricks out and I do fancy us to at least draw.

It doesnt matter kane and son score goals fact. Whether they have scored 4 goals you cannot right them off esp at home.
Our record againat them is genrally poor despite last seasons win.
-
This’ll be tough even though Spurs have struggled in the last few games they’ve still got a hell of a lot of talented players.
So have Yanited !
-
SJM is going to rip through them.
-
I don't really mind as long as we continue to play without fear. Results are what they are, and I have no doubt we'll get enough over the season to guarantee a lack of anxiety, indeed probably enough to feel a real sense of progress made. But more than results, the way we play is what gets me right now, having a Villa we can be proud of.
