I thought that this amazing gesture deserved a thread of its own:
https://www.barrowafc.com/news/2021/august/260821-aston-villa-donate-their-share-of-carabao-cup-receipts-back-to-barrow-after-second-round-tie/
The Premier League outfit ran out 6-0 winners in their Second Round visit to Cumbria, thanks largely to a hat-trick from youngster Cameron Archer.
Under the rules of the competition, Villa would be due 45% of the gate receipts from a sell-out crowd at The Dunes Hotel Stadium – but they have now confirmed that they will donate that back to The Bluebirds.
“It’s just a wonderful gesture and we’re so grateful for their generosity,” admitted Barrow Chairman Paul Hornby.
“Despite the result, it was a fantastic occasion for everyone connected with Barrow and the revenue generated from it and this subsequent donation is crucial to the Club.
“All those associated with Villa conducted themselves with real class on Tuesday night so this gesture just underlines what a great club they are so we thank them and wish them well for the rest of the season.”
-
That's great to hear. Well done Villa.
-
Very nice gesture and great P.R..
-
Good gesture, lets hope Chelsea give us the gate receipts for the next game
-
The phrase the 'football family' often sounds very hollow in these days of clubs going to the wall when individual players are on half a million quid a week and there are £100 million player transfers so this is a welcome response to a club that needs every penny.
Nice one Villa.
-
It's probably the equivalent of Greasy Ratboy's salary for a couple of days, but I imagine it's a huge help at that level. Perhaps we could send them a couple of kids on loan as well. The Cumbrian winter weather would toughen them up no end!

Fantastic gesture. From their forum ...
Spot on from Villa, hopefully invested in the infrastructure of the club!
Put some of it towards a proper food hut at the away end and call it The Food Villa with a plaque to commentate the game.
Great set of fans and now a considerate club. Well done, Villa.
After watching there first class performance from mostly youths, and the way the club and fans mingled round town before game
And now they donate the match fee ?
What a fabulous club they are
Thank you to Aston Villa and hope you have a great season
Class club I’m planning on following Villa for the rest of the comp hope they make it past Chelsea next round
-
Aston Villa - doing the right thing (mostly) since 1874. Well done the Club.
-
I am always proud to be a Villa fan but especially so with this. Class club since 1874.
Tuesday was one of the best away trips, we were made welcome and I shall always have a soft spot for Barrow.
-
Well done Villa, as ever.
-
I love this club. Brilliant from them and so proud.
Arrange a friendly with them in summer if it also helps them out
-
Lovely thing to do.
-
Great stuff from the club.
-
Things like this make me proud of our club
Well Done Villa
-
Excellent gesture. Well done Villa.
-
A fantastic gesture by our fantastic football club!
Good luck Barrow going forwards and UTV!
-
Fantastic, just really brilliant news.

They sound like a lovely, gracious bunch as well. Good luck to them!
-
I see the BBC have picked up on it. They are posting Barrows tweet thanking us. Nothing from the Villa at all. Pure class.
-
The gesture is magnificent and sounds like our fans also gave a good impression of our club. Add all that to what happened on the pitch with our outstanding young players and it makes me swell with pride. Billiant all round.
-
It does deserve a thread of it's own and it's bloody great! A lot to be proud of last couple of days!
-
Another positive. Its great to be in love with something so marvellous isn't it?
-
Just read their thread on the Barrow fans site. It is humbling to see how much it meant to them and the fact that the Villains mingled around town without the 'Big I Am'. Not only made friends with the club and fans but also the town and City. Barrow deserves the recognition as thier history is a tough one for club and town.
-
Well done Villa!!!
-
I find it amazing that premier league clubs don't do this as standard when they play away to L2 or non-league clubs. The money we'd be getting wouldn't cover a weeks wage for our top earners but it can make a huge difference to those clubs.

What were our players up to before the game?

Exactly Paul. As some of the posts from their fans mention, that money can be massive in terms of investing in infrastructure and facilities. Great gesture from Villa and well done to those involved in the decision.
-
That's a really nice thing to do well done Villa.
-
Puts some pressure on other prem clubs now.
-
Once again this club sets a good charitable example
-
It's really nice to hear about our away fans as well. I've pretty much stopped going to away games, as the coked up pissheads smashing up away concourses that infest our travelling support put me off entirely.
-
Class is permanent and, given a recent spell out of the Premier League where we stared into the financial abyss, perhaps worn with a degree of humility. Well done to everyone from whoever at the top who sanctioned this to those supporters who left such a positive impression
-
Great gesture well done Villa, class as always
-
Quality act from a quality club.
-
Well played Aston Villa
Did anyone else make this Gesture ?
We should loan them a couple of players and buy them a pie hut
-
Well done Villa. Maybe Barrow can buy some proper lighting for their stand now :).
-

It definitely had a different vibe this one.

The very small number definitely kept the dickhead count down!
-
Great gesture by us. But I can't help wondering what would happen if it was Birmingham City playing Barrow ?
I'd like to think Barrow would do the right thing.

Barrow fans gushing;

-
A simply magnanimous gesture from the club, needs to be on the smile thread.
-
Amount comes to 30k I just read.
This act alone has generated more goodwill than 30k could buy.
I am always surprised in work how many people I come into contact with - senior, grown up, successful business people - who can not even begin to understand this concept.
