It was only a few days ago that I saw the edited highlights of the 1987 FA Cup final on ITV4. In the good old days when Coventry and Wimbledon could win the FA Cup (even if you didn't necessarily particularly like Coventry or Wimbledon). I remember the atmosphere in Coventry that morning as I was in Coventry as a sixteen year old helping my uncle out in his haulage business before going home to watch the game.
I seem to recall a story about George Curtis training on a gravel training surface and still doing sliding tackles and then picking the bits of gravel out of his leg.

The hardest of hard men on the pitch and an absolute gent the rest of the time.

RIP George

Nails.
RIP George. His importance in our revival is sometimes underestimated I think.

So true Perce, I posted as much in the death thread, an integral part in our on-field renaissance. RIP George and thanks for the memories.

I put this on the death watch thread
I'm saddened by that and send my condolences. On the field he looked a mountain of a man but standing beside him at an open day he wasn't that tall but an impressive physique. No one messed around with him

I can remember a tackle he made against a Charlton player at VP
I use the word “tackle” in its loosest sense
Contact was first made about 3 yards in from the touch line and the Charlton player finished up in the 3rd row from the front in the Trinity Road
I think George claimed the thrown in

RIP George.

Did a great job for us, delighted for him, when he won the cup with Cov.
RIP George
-
RIP George, you played an important role in our revival , thank you Sir.

What a double act Curtis and John Sillett were at Coventry in 1987
RIP

Purely from hazy memory, I think it was George who spoke of a few of Villa’s third division team knowing full well that they were only playing for a club like Aston Villa due to our temporary sorry state. He said something like they knew they weren’t really good enough to take us all the way to the top but worked desperately hard to get us started on the journey.
Bless em all.

The original brick shithouse. Good no-fuss footballer as well. He will be remembered by many a CF. Give Gabriel a shinner for me...
-
George Curtis with the free kick/assist to set up the winner in our most famous Division 3 victory.
RIP
-
One of the better pitches in the third division ;D RIP George. Granite as a player and was delighted for him when Coventry won the cup.

E for B and George Curtis!
-
A Coventry City legend, deservedly so, but thank you George Curtis for the contribution you made to the Villa history. 57 games I believe he played for the Villa, 4 goals scored, the signing of Curtis, and his steel and determination to win, was a pivotal point in turning us into a team that was able to get out of that third division (which wasn't one for the faint hearted). George's free kick, that gave rise to our second goal, and the explosion that followed, in that game against Bournemouth in 1972, will never be forgotten by those who were lucky enough to be there that day.

Filled, and I mean really filled, the number five Villa shirt with pride. One of the hardest Villa players I've seen. Broke his nose v Notts County in a pivotal game in our promotion season and returned weeks later to play in the side that clinched promotion at Mansfield. I sometimes wondered what opposition players thought when George trotted forward at corners to join Andy Lochhead in the box! Condolences to his family.
-
RIP George Curtis and thank you.
Made concrete look like blancmange.
-
A Coventry stalwart throughout their lower league years when they finally got promoted to the promised land of the old first division. IIRC, he broke his leg just a couple of games in to that first season. No one got the better of George in a physical duel, a man you would always want on your side, for whatever reason.

RIP.

Jaws
Thanks for the memory
-
i am sad to hear of the death of George Curtis Up there with Dick Edwards as the hardest player i have ever seen in a Villa shirt No other player messed around with George R I P George
-
Before my time but clearly has a positive impact during Villa's 1970s reawakening.
RIP George.
-
Thank you and Rest In Peace George.
A true hard man of the game who knew how to treat people off the pitch.
Never forgotten.
-
I recall a match where Kenneth Wolstonholme described George as 'a great tank of a man.
Thanks for everything, Iron Man.
-
I was up the Holte for that game. Utter mayhem when Lochhead scored that second goal. Was going to mention his 'Iron Man' moniker myself; never was a player so suitably named. RIP and thanks George, who knows how we would have fared without his presence?
