Social media boycott: Football clubs, players & sporting bodies begin protest - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/56936797

Power to them all. Kick racism in the balls.
-
seems to be consistent across most sports, all the rugby (both types) and cricket clubs seem to have joined in at least, which is great news, being racist anyway is ridiculous, doing it from safely behind a keyboard is cowardly bullshit and social media companies need to realise they have a big part to play in dealing with it.
-
I’m with Tyrone. Kick it out.
-
It's not just racism. It's all forms of discrimination and abuse.
-
Kick it all out!

Fair, and yes, it can all go in the fucking bin.
-
Fair play, I fully support them. Kick it out, kick it hard.
-
I’ll believe it all when I see it. I’m delighted there is a stand being taken so let’s separate that out. But when UEFA bans Bulgaria and the like from competition vs fining them £50 I’ll believe it. When the PL with its hundreds of millions really integrates itself into all areas of British society where we know prejudice to exist with education programs and commitments of consequence then I will believe it. When FIFA isn’t an all boys club I’ll believe it. When the authorities in conjunction with the police openly condemn and prosecute in the event of abuse of gay and/or transgender, not just for racism at games I’ll believe it. And when social media platforms cooperate with authorities to find every one of these fucking cowardly bigots and throw the book at them I’ll believe it.
Because my guess is, sadly in a few days it will all start again because none of this is being supported by real long lasting action.

Yes, too damn right.

Great post TV. What they are doing is not enough.
At least it’s a start.

We did it differently in 1978.

eventually the Clash got fed up of him turning up to do the White Riot encore cameo and locked him in a cupboard for the whole gig.

I was too young for that but went to the Carnival Against Racism at Brockwell Park in 1994 featuring The Levellers, Manics and Billy Bragg.
Not quite the same.

I admire the sentiment, and understand that this effort is focused on online racism.
The problem is ****** will always be ******.

Agreed, sadly I don't think it'll make a shred of difference.

I have a horrible feeling there will be a lot of cases once they’re all back on social media.

Of course the will. Hopefully this is just the start of a campaign to pressurise the platforms to do something about it, I’m hoping it becomes an ongoing effort and gathers support beyond sport.
I’m doing my bit by continuing my life long boycott of all social media platforms.

A few people should look into copyrighting every racist and otherwise discriminatory term possible. Maybe then something will be done because social media companies seem to take breach of copyright more seriously than any form of abuse.
-
No room for Racism.

I'd like to see the Premier League clubs undertake a complete a whole month of no social media over the summer. Imagine how desperate we would be for news of signings, injuries, sponsorship details etc. Then for the clubs to come back after that period. We'd go crazy for news and the clubs would have some sort of hold. I appreciate racists will always be racists but would hope that this sends a strong message to all fans that we are all in this together.
