Played in the 3rd Division Championship winning side, formed a good partnership with the great Andy Lochhead.
Happy 80th birthday Geoff
-
Happy Birthday Geoff.
Stalwart who always gave everything on the pitch. Received very unfair abuse and criticism from the usual subjects,
This could probably be attributed to his time at a previous club? Vic Crowe stood by him, started him regularly and he slowly regained his confidence. Went on to play an important part in getting Villa promoted.

Happy Birthday Geoff.

Happy Birthday Geoff, had a quick google to have a look at his playing career and he was the 1st substitute to score a hat trick in the football league !

'Vowden away, four up for Villa, the ball carrier and three forward of him.'
-
I have got his autograph somewhere - must see if I can find it.
-
I think he scored one of the goals in that vital 3rd Division game against Bournemouth at Villa Park. He did a great job for us that season.
-
Happy 80th Geoff! Some great memories of his time in a Villa shirt . He scored the goal which secured us promotion back to division 2 in a 1-1 draw at Mansfield. He then scored two more in the following game which clinched the 3rd Division Championship 5-1 v Torquay (Brian Little's first full game)

That Mansfield away was my first Villa game
Vowden was the first Villa goal I ever saw live
Can't remember it I was only 10
but I know it was him and still have the programme

If I remember correctly, pretty much route 1 football when Little scored, Cumbes kick downfield not sure if Lochead had any touch on it but it fell to Little who put it away. Feel free to correct a 50 year old memory.

Happy birthday, Geoff!
The first Scapegoat I ever wrote about.
-
Happy Birthday Geoff ,proved the moaners wrong when you came from the blues and put in some really good performances for us.
-
Yes I moaned that we signed a donkey from blues. For me nothing good can ever come from there. But I was wrong. A very unassuming effective player.
Happy birthday Geoff and thanks for the equaliser against Bournemouth.
-
Equaliser I think. Was mentioned in the 50 Years Ago thread

Belated birthday greetings Mr. Vowden.
-
Just before my time but I'm guessing he's the only player to have played for Villa, Blose and the New York Cosmos.
-
I remember a huge argument broke out at the Witton end over Vowden between those that thought he was crap and shouldn't be in the side and others who were all about supporting the shirt. Memory might be failing but didn't his wife pass away or something, anyway he played crap that night. I am old so is the memory.
-
Not a signing to get the pulses racing
However did a good workman like job and proved his critics wrong, me included
Happy Birthday Geoff, hope there are many more to come
-
Never let us down as I recall. I can't ever remember walking away from a match home or away and thinking well, Vowden was rubbish. Happy birthday Geoff.

Great player, one of my first favourites. My dad raved about him when he came. And what a fabulous kit, my first ever Villa kit
