Excellent.

Seeing the removable goals, I wonder if anyone has ever considered larger than normal goals for goalkeeper training and smaller than normal goals for outfield player training?

The ones on the video all looked very small.

Looks impressive, though like you it looks nothing like it did when last there...

...Which was not that long after Ron Atkinson took over, and you could only watch training with a telescope borrowed from Jodrell Bank.

The last time I went and could mingle with the players and watch pitch-side was some time in the late 80s - a young Keown was being lauded by the management and teammates.  And Gary Shaw, back from the latest injuries, was heart-breakingly showing signs of that liquid grace of  his early career.

They did, yet Ollie continues to find the woodwork on a full sized goal; go figure.

Those were far away.

Well as the new area shown is Academy pitches, U12's to U23's,  I suspect that might be why they need different goals and sizes.

It's touched on above but this really shouldn't look anything like the last time people were there because it's not the same site.

If you look on google maps here - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.5746065,-1.7194093,1143m/data=!3m1!1e3 - the site everyone knows is at the bottom, that's still the senior training ground, you can see the buildings that show up in all the training ground photos/videos. At the top of the screen is the new academy facility that opened last year and was worked on by that contractor.

The bottom ground right on Bodymoor Heath Road is having HS2 going through it.

Fascinating; thanks for posting. Looks unrecognisable from the last time I was there, circa 2004, at a time when I was doing some junior scouting for the Club and was invited along to watch an Under 16s game on the synthetic pitch.

Are you local to Bodymoor Heath then? Do you go out into Middleton or the other way towards the Whitacre’s?

Is this for the Academy or is it for the seniors too? I worked on the other building and this isn't it. Has it been demolished for HS2?

Wow!
Unrecognisable from the last time I went.
I used to go there when it was simply called Bond Street back in the '70s

The drone footage is the Acadamy, the seniors building is closer to Bodymoore Heath Road and has a different entrance.

looks great - I'm hoping we can start generating some young talent through the place.

Interesting. Was wondering exactly how HS2 was going to impact on the site.

Used to go down to watch training every school holiday in late 90s and early 2000s so it will run exactly through where the car park and pitches were and we've moved everything up 200 yards.

Thanks for that. What a brilliant facility for the academy players. This will help to make up the minds of young talent that we're trying to sign.

I do a lot of walking in the area and initial HS2 works are becoming increasingly noticeable over the last 12 months. Walking out of Middleton towards Middleton Hall some initial groundworks are taking place. A bit further north I walk the Heart of England Way to Lichfield, just a little east of Weeford where you cross the old A5 the path takes you past a farmhouse and outbuildings all now abandoned and surrounded by metal fencing. Big JCBs a few hundred yards away are very busy. Just south of here the original path has been recently diverted and a lot of tree planting has been done. Also walking down the canal path towards Curdworth I can work out where it crosses, again plenty of big yellow diggers at work.

Great Barr but I have cycled to Kingsbury via the back of Walmley and the Belfry and sometimes stop at Middleton Hall for the cafe. It will be interesting how steep the bridge will be compared to the Canal or M5 on the same road.

Ah I see. As ALITA said the work and destruction all around here is quite extensive. Boils my piss tbh.
