A good read
I love that we are always on the front foot and attacking but also have the second best defensive record in the league. I think the top 6 is wide open this year and if we can keep our better players fit and add a couple of canny signings in January we might not be far away.
Feels great to be a Villa fan again

Loved that closing comment Dave.
-
Ninth in the table moving into the Christmas period, win just one of our games in hand and we go fourth.
Win both of our games in hand and we go second.
Would you bet against us ?
-
You got that out quickly.
-
It isn't the oldest rivalry in league football. We played Wolves in our first ever league game, at the same time that Preston were playing Burnley.

I love this piece.

Fantastic read Dave. I am sure you held something back there ;D
-
over the years how many players have been sent off in this fixture
-
I also like reading your post-match summaries Dave.........when we win. You’re very fair and expose our frailties when we lose. But always well written if apparently a tad rushed sometimes. Keep up the good work.
-
Nice one Dave.

And neither of them are rivalries. Villa and Albion have been at it since way before the league was formed.

Dave
is there any truth in the story about them desecrating William Mcgregors grave?

The one thing I will say about their supporters is that they tend to be peaceful enough. Sanctimonious, jealous, bitter and permanently hard-done to yes, but unlike Wolves at least you can talk to them without feeling that they're about to turn nasty.

If you don't count them as rivalries then Blackburn v Burnley is the oldest. You said the oldest in league history so assumed you were talking about the league. If not, then Sheffield v Hallam is the oldest rivalry.

Please don't be pedantic - it's so unlike you. This is the oldest rivalry between clubs who were rivals before the oldest league was formed.
-
Pedantry is my oldest friend. Frivolity is my greatest rivalry.
-
I did. I planted some claret and blue tulips on it but the locals must have eaten them.
-
Dave, whilst I agree with every word, I'm disappointed that it's so balanced.
That really was the most routine of wins, it shows how much we've progressed I think.
Another note, I'm glad we have Martinez and not Johnstone.
-
I was worried that some keen gardener, yes I am looking at you The Malandro, would work out that the light blue tulips were "Manchester City" and the claret ones were a variety called "Uncle Tom". The latter almost certainly re named. Uncle Albert perhaps.
-
Well I was in short trousers in late 70s so only have hazy memories but will gladly take the comparison based on results and performances and tales from elders.
Front foot stuff from the off last night - loved it especially the Bert and AEG who came in for a lot of criticism in recent weeks.
When they were below is for seemingly decades (most of my life) I never thought of them as more than a bit of a nuisance neighbour but Christ that changed when Hodgson for starters made them half decent which irritatingly lasted for half a decade.

A brilliant read Dave.

You make my day Daz.

The point about consistency is a good one, we need to stop following up good victories with disappointing defeats or draws.

In terms of league rivalries it seems Albion also played Wolves twice before they played us.
-
But they've only recently given a toss about each other.

its one of those strange ones as on the occasions that I heard this claim it was from Baggies fans.
