Quite bizarrely it’s taken us to arrive at our 8th league game for us to have a Saturday PL fixture. Brighton made it difficult for us last season at VP and even though they are near the bottom Potter will have then organized and hard to break down. Lamptey is lightning quick, Maupay if he plays will be a pain the balls. They will come to take a point. We need to attack from the off, take the lead and have them open up. But I think we will go on to amazingly win our 6th in 8 games.
I’ll say 3-1 - Jack, Ollie, Konsa
For them Jimmy Case
-
They will, undoubtedly, make it more difficult than Arsenal. We should win but I fancy a further eyebrow-raiser with us notching a late leveller.
2-2.
-
5-3
-
6-1 FTCSSF!
-
if we can keep a clean sheet I think that Villa will win.

2 - 0
Ollie, Trez
-
Get off to the bookies now and lump it on a 3-1 Villa win.
You can thank me Saturday night.
-
I'm tired of these try-hards. Let's bowl them over. 4-1.
-
I worry about this game about 70percent of the team on International duty, I want a 1 0 but hope Potter doesn’t out fox us
-
I fear this game is coming 28 hours and 15 minutes too early.
-
We're due a draw this season. 1-1.
-
Our form v Arsenal should be too much for Brighton. Jack all positive now knowing he's a starter for the England team should be too much for Brighton. Ollie Watkins with a taste for the jugular should be too much for Brighton.
It has to be a convincing win you'd think.
-

I agree, 3pm on a Saturday is a ridiculous time for a game of football to be played. Hopefully we can revert to our more traditional Sunday evening slot soon.
-
Brighton must be the only Premier League team that seems to have precisely zero internationals. I think they are pretty underrated, was impressed when I saw them last season.
Will take any sort of scrappy win, please.
-
They're better than their league position would suggest.
-
I am sure i saw this was on BT sport - is it still PPV or free?

Trossard has been getting in the Belgium team I think, and Connolly plays for Ireland.

100%. Sunday evening is the Villa Slot.
-

It's part of your BT Sport subscription.
There are no more PPV/Box Office games anymore, as I understand it.
-
If Chelsea fail to win at Newcastle in the early kick off then we go top with a win, at least for a few hours, which would be most exciting.
-

Can people stop describing paid subscription telly as 'free'!
-
I know stats and all that but these are no mugs - 5th best PL team on expected goals I read somewhere - suggests either they can’t finish or our defence will be tested a la Leeds / Southampton. Hope all our travelling internationals come back fit and ready and we can get on the front foot early - should then have enough for them.
-
Those stats mean nothing at all if they cannot finish. Not being able to score and not being able to defend leads to bad things usually at any level let alone PL level. That's why they are 5th from bottom of the table that actually matters. Not saying we should take them lightly because they clearly create chances, so we will need to be sharp. But so far, we have created chances, scored from a number of them and kept 4 clean sheets this season. I'd rather we focused on that.
-
Agreed. Just wouldn’t want to start slowly and go behind. We’ve not been able to turn such a scenario around yet (I know we did it against these last year). Trying not to be over-confident going into a game we should expect to win.
-
Even if you think the stats are useful the post above is wrong.
They're 9th on xG and it's almost exactly the same as the number they've actually scored. We're 6th and if you account for the game in hand we'd be 3rd.
Where Brighton are 5th is xGA (goals against) but we're above them in 3rd on that as well.
That suggests the sensible betting would be on something like 1-0 or 2-1 to us.

I like people who do detail better than me. And I’d take either of those outcomes.
-
We haven't had a draw yet so 1-1.
-
Whichever team scores first will win. Them's the rules.
So we'd better score first.
2-1 Villa.
-
4-0 to the Villa.
-
I think this is a tricky game.
-
Tricky but they’re an Albion so fuck the fuckers. 3-0.
-
Villa win 2-0, hate doing this as I jinx it. Saturday at home 3pm kick off, what can go wrong????
-
A Desmond.
-
1-1 - they are a decent side at home - we will have to watch their Right Back he is quick.

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive. 3-0 Villa.

2-1 Villa.
Not with these. They took one point off us last season despite taking the lead in both games.
A clean sheet would be nice. That said, I'm going 4-1 us, Grealish always scores against these, Trez finally getting a goal, Konsa with one to breathe fresh life back into the swing-o-meter, and one from one of the fullbacks. Only I can't decide which.

As with the Liverpool game, we've had 2 weeks to revel in it and let expectation get sky high. As with that break, we'll win our next game against a team in blue. 3-1 Villa.
-
So, a really great performance and result against a top six side, confidence sky high, two of the starting XI back from playing for England.
A struggling team of nobodies up next.
I wonder what is going to happen?

A routine win, and seriously, that's the mentality we have to get rid of if we're going to be successful.

Hopefully Cash will score, so I can sing 'Dirty Cash I want you, dirty Cash I need you woah'.

First Saturday 3pm kick off in 273 days or 23 matches.
-
We haven't won a 3pm Saturday game in our last nine attempts, as I work it out. Only one of those was a draw, against Brighton. The last one we won was last October, against Brighton.

fate that we do it again ;-)
-
Next 7 games are against none of the 'Top six', looking at the fixtures, on our present form we should be looking to pick up a minimum of 15 points, starting with Brighton tomorrow, going 2 nil Villa.

We should be aiming for that, disappointed if we don't get it, but shouldn't be beating the manager up if we don't.
Every team is winning games, and most will have looked at matches against us and assumed they would pick up points.
-
I don't want the "we are Villa we always fuck it up" mantra repeated here. Just stop that thinking please. On saturday our team will demonstrate competence and maturity and put away Albion with ease.
Straight forward 2-0 please Villa.

First Saturday 3pm kick off in 273 days or 23 matches.
Trying to think. Was it Southampton away when Pepe Reina went walkabout?
-
This is exactly the sort of banana skin that has been a Villa speciality in the past.
With new found optimism, a home win instead of 'after the Lord Mayor's show'.
Hope Jack's got the legs for it.
-
I really like Brighton and would be glad to see them do well.
Starting next week.

It was indeed, 22 February 2020.
-
I fear a bit of a hangover for our internationals who played a fair bit, plus we often follow up a great win with high expectations and a Pish performance. Brighton are better than their position suggests and seem to lose narrowly a fair bit - I reckon it will be 2-1 if our internationals are at it, or 2-2 if they aren't.
-
Hoping for a win. Don't think it'll be straightforward but the team should have enough.
2-1 Villa, FTF.
-

10% of Premier League managers are Brummies. Stick that up your hoop, everywhere else*.
*mostly.
-
Wouldn't be against a midfield of Nakamba-Hourihane-Barkley.
McGinn could do with a rest and while Doug is key play for us now he's had a very long trip back.
Between November 30th and December 28th we've got 7 games so think this is good time to rest one or two of our key players. Many of Brighton's matches are also tight affairs so it would be good to have quality fresh legs to put on after an hour if it's 1-1 like both matches were with 30 minutes left last season.
Think our record in last 10 matches has actually more wins with Hourihane starting.

Another 'orrible one (copyright Bruce, not 'arry although it certainly wasn't triffic either).
-
Trossard is out for them. They seems to have many to choose from and from what I have seen they look better than the bottom sides. Physical and difficult to break down. If we can step up to our best I can see 3-1 to us.
-
Talking about Brighton their manager Graham Potter would be my pick for the England manager
yeah I know he's got zero chance of getting its just a personal choice
-
I'm not that arsed about England so my choice would be for them to appoint a manager that would fuck over a team that I don't like. Bielsa would be ideal.

This is actually the best idea.

First game of, what on paper, looks like a good run of fixtures up to and including Boxing Day. Think it is a run which could well define our season.
-
Don't know if these are good or bad omens, but we're a month shy of it being 40 years since they last beat us anywhere, and they've never won at Villa in nearly 66 years of trying.
-
Now that everything's only on TV, I find 3pm on Saturday a daft time to play it. When will they think of the armchair supporter!
-
I think pretty much for the first time this season we are arguably expected to win. Good footballing sides. Come on Villa.
-
Only seen MOTD highlights of them, but seem better than their results, McGinn and Grralish especially might be jaded. Tough game, 2-1 villa

I am impressed that despite having all their international players return late from all over the world SHA managed to play and stop marauding Coventry City from winning.

[Brighton's] players played fewer minutes during the international break than any other Premier League team...
Just two of the club’s players represented their country, clocking up a total of 185 minutes of football between them...
Villa's players played a total of 1,224 minutes of football between them on international duty.
https://www.sussexlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/well-rested-brighton-villa-international-4722305
Although they do "have a few injury concerns to deal with, including Leandro Trossard, Davy Propper, Florin Andone and Jose Izquierdo". These any good?
-
Brighton are a good side, play some good football but haven't been getting the results they deserve. A bit like us last season vs Arse, Spuds, Bournemouth etc.if we are on it, we will have too much for them but if we suffer a post International fatigue, they will hurt us. 3-1 Villa but may take another 90th minute goal to finally see them off.
-
I am not a doctor/trainer so probably talking a load of b****cks. But fatigue for young and athletic international footballers might be blown out of proportion.
When they travel, they are probably 'mollycoddled' beyond belief. Not like the rest of us who have to drag luggage around, queue for hours etc. All pros have to do is carry their passport and sleep. Their kit is washed for them, boots polished, arse wiped.
After they play an international match, I am sure their club coach will only give them light training to redress the balance. One lap of the pitch instead of ten etc
Fatigue should not be that big an issue for mollycoddled youngsters. Just a thought. 2-1 to the villa. :)
-
I agree, Baldy. Have you seen the pictures of a happy looking Trez?!

I love the idea of Grealish dragging his luggage through the airport, with two moaning kids loping behind, and Jack looking longingly at the airport weatherspoons

-
I wouldn't blame Smith if he makes one or two changes today. I think it will just be Luiz who misses out if anybody though hopefully unless he gives him an hour and takes him off. Tough game as always but i'll go for a 2-1 win.
-
Good form overall, just beaten a "big" side away with a superb performance, everyone optimistic.
2-0 defeat.
-
Traore fit and for them Dunk back from ban and Trossard and Propper doubts.
-
Start our best side, get half a dozen in the onion bag early doors, three subs at half time. Piece of piss, this football management malarkey.
-
First game of, what on paper, looks like a good run of fixtures up to and including Boxing Day. Think it is a run which could well define our season.
Agree next 4 matches after Boxing Day Chelsea, Manchester United, Spurs and Everton.
-
I have a funny feeling in my bones we are going to thrash Brighton today. I've had a few quid on us to win by a large margin. I'd still swap the potential winnings for a scrappy victory!
-

Yes, we'll have to beat all those teams below us.

Yeah, I can see us dropping two points from those if Everton rediscover some form.
-
There will be five goals today....
-
Probable proof today that there are no easy matches in the PL.
Brighton are no pushovers and we have a group of core players who may well be fatigued after international duty. Only 4-0 to us.
-
Traore fit and for them Dunk back from ban and Trossard and Propper doubts.
I'd keep Trez in tbh, Lampety at RB for them is a real danger with his runs so we'll need Trez to do his defensive shift today while Traore is still an unknown in that regard as we've seen very little of him at prem level.
-

Good afternoon Dean Smith.
Yes we are unchanged today. Certainly a game where we need a quick start like Arsenal.
No Davis on bench so AEG and Traore the front 3 sub options today.
