Title: Arsenal v Aston Villa pre-match thread - Sunday November 8th - 7.15pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on November 05, 2020, 01:14:11 AM
Tough but not insurmountable challenge. We did so well at Villa Park last time out and we will need to be in top form and defensively solid again. A point would be a good result.

1-1 Watkins

Law of averages points to a draw which I would be more than happy with.

One apiece.

The only two teams in the league yet to draw a game. No coupon-buster sadly. Arsenal are improving at a quicker rate than we are. 2-0.

We have the ability on the pitch to win this i just hope we find the mentality to do so

We need to start well - not wait until game is over to begin doing our thing. Not sure Deano will have the bottle to make significant changes but if same set up i hope he changes it a lot quicker this time if clearly not working.

Midfield is the key - with and without the ball

Martinez will want a clean sheet - 0-1 Luiz free kick

The answer is no significant changes. Elmo and Trez is probably a good shout if Smith wants to take Cash out the firing line for a couple of weeks, although I’d be happy if he plays.

3-2 us, a last minute VAR handball decision to us to make up for being robbed last year.

Can't see anything for us here.

The first four games raised expectations to unreasonable levels.

We need to remember that most of us were hoping for a safe mid-table finish before a ball was kicked.

Targett and his inability to retain the football was a major cause of last Sunday's defeat.

I would be seriously thinking about giving Taylor a run out (although I can't believe I'm suggesting that).

Re. the above;
After the Ward-Prowse show last week I would love, just for once, to see us get a free kick in a dangerous area and produce something creative that looked like they had spent some time working on it at Bodymoor.
Conor has been our best bet in the past but, far too often, they appear to be coming-up with the plan there and then.

Games are incredibly hard to call at the moment. Arsenal seem overly defensive, which might play in to our hands. Either 1-0 to them, or us to win by a cricket score.

I then expected at least three points from Leeds and Southampton. No points.

I expect us to lose today.

1-2.

We might get hammered today or we might win well. The difference in being a villa supporter at the moment is I don’t 100% expect us to get beat. I know we’ve had one or two decent results down there post O’Neil, but over the last decade I’ve always expected us to lose these games (supposed top six), I don’t think we go into this with an inferiority complex, for the first time in years

The most Villa thing to do after winning 4 in a row would be to go on a huge losing streak, or at least winless run.

I'm still clinging to the hope Villa won't be Villa this season, but to be honest I am not looking forward to this game.

Not feeling very hopeful about this one, Arteta has improved them a lot since we last played them, but last week's 2nd half come back does give me some optimism and providing we stop giving away stupid free kicks on the edge of our box, then we have a chance.

5 hours to go. Plenty of time yet for the spawny vile to have Aubameyang stub his toe and Leno accidentally brutally cut off a finger whilst trimming his nails. If not, still 3-2 us. Watkins, Grealish and Konsa for us, Drake and Hollins for the nomads.

In the build up to the game, Radio 5 just interviewed Ezri Konsa on radio 5. He talked about the guidance from his father and older brother, playing for Senrab and his admiration for John Terry, including the feedback he receives from him. Came across extremely well; articulate, humble and very focused. Hopefully he and Tyrone do the business this evening.
