It works on averages. Villa win our game in hand and we're top, which combined with performances so far gives us the lead.
Whoscored is taken seriously, and whilst we're (possibly) not the best team in Europe, I'm going to enjoy this whilst it lasts.

Maybe it takes into account quality of opposition, too? Can't be too many teams that have already twatted both the domestic league champion and cup winner.
