Great stuff.

I actually thought as long as we played decent even akin to last season the break would do us good.

What a night. The lost decade is over. A better one has begun.

'To say everything else that was positive about this performance would fill the internet.'

Beautiful stuff Dave.

I put in the Post Match that you could have had a picture of the final Scoreboard with "Enough Said" underneath it and it would have summed it. I didn't envy you having to write that but you have worked your magic.

Must admit to feeling a little emotional myself towards the end.  A lot of the highs we have had over the past decade or so, have been largely been against a backdrop of uncertainty or concern.  Tonight, though, felt different and feels like the start of something.

I think a really big point you've made here, which we can forget, is that this result will be headlines around the world. I'm watching American cable news and it's appeared there already, we're fucking massive.

Well said Dave.
I must say, I felt pretty emotional myself after all that.
The last ten years have been very tough.
I still can't quite believe what I have just witnessed.

That's brilliant Dave, brought tears to my eyes reading that.

This is the Villa I grew up with as a kid in the mid 70's. Just relentless.

Was there in 76 but this feels even more emotional.
My thoughts into words, great piece.

Brilliant Dave, I was there for the 5-1 (my mate was on the Witton with the away fans, at half time one of them got on his knees to pray) and I thought it couldn't be beaten but that was superb. Downsides that we weren't there and that my brother isn't here to see it. I bet Dean feels like that about his dad.

And this is why football is so powerful. After years of dross and heartbreak, 90 minutes makes it all worthwhile.

Great read as always Dave

Like a poster said in the post match thread - at the end of the game i actually stood up and applauded them off whilst in my living room - much to the amusement of my wife.

Every single man gave 110% for the cause and the to hear a few were disappointed as they should of scored even more - wow indeed Mr Klopp

I will watch the entire game again tonight, but being a Villa fan will expect them to come back and win the game 7-8  ;D

It just makes you yearn for the next one to come round - really hope none of our boys get injured during stupid national games

Great article, as ever, Dave.
Captures the feelings of us all so succinctly.
I missed the game in 76....my first job and the staff Christmas dinner.... I was told I was "expected to attend". Sat at a table with 3 Liverpool fans who wouldn't believe me when I went to phone Villa Park to check on the score.
Last night was better.....at least I saw it!
If this is what happens when I'm not there I'll happily pay NOT to go to games again!
UTFV!

I think the difference with 1976 is that, even though it was Liverpool, when we went 3-0 nobody thought that Liverpool could pull the game back.  We have gone through such a bad spell over the last 10 years, even at 4-1 and 5-2, there was that thought that it could all go wrong.

It has been a long time since I have seen Villa have the confidence to push on and not sit back.  I always believe you should play to your strengths and for this team, going forward is our strength.  There was a belief running through the team last night and it showed in the effort from every single player.

1. I was there in 1976.  That first half was the best I have ever seen from Villa. However, Sunday's match was a superior performance because we were on top from the first minute till the last and against and arguably superior Liverpool team. There was just no let up. I even thought Traore was going to get on the scoresheet.
2. Everywhere I go at the moment when people see my Villa mask they wax lyrical about Sunday and some of our players, especially Jack. When I first wore it all I heard was "you only stayed up by the skin of your teeth".   Sunday really gave us back our pride.
