Title: When George Graham Played For Us
Post by: dave shelley on August 16, 2020, 07:24:32 PM
While mooching around, I came accross this (https://www.lfchistory.net/Images/newspapers/ian.beardsley/1963-05-18-villaaway.jpg)I remember this game and it brought back a few good memories of the time.  There may be some posters on here that may not know George Graham was a Villa player, indeed may not even know who George Graham is.  Take a look at the crowd figure.

Can't remember the name of the old fella who used to do the Villa Park tour, but he was George Graham's biggest fan. Managed to shoehorn him into every part of the tour. Or maybe it was just the tour I went on because my dad argued with him about Graham all the way through.

Like Blanchflower, had to leave Villa to win the Double.

Apparently he asked my Aunt out when he was here so we could have ended up related! She said no.

Thanks for posting Dave.  I was at the game, remember him scoring but had forgotten who we were playing.

Interesting that from that team Graham, Chatterley, Wylie and Gordon Lee all became managers too.

Before this season, I think that was the longest season ever due to that bad winter and on the return we lost 11 on the bounce, at least we finished the season on a reasonably good note winning 3 of our last 5 matches.

That was Liverpool's first season back in the first division, after 8 years in the 2nd, the following season they finished as champions, under Bill Shankly.

Thanks for the post Dave
