This is massive. Must take advantage of the recent results involving other teams. We usually do well under the lights at Villa Park. Come on Villa!!
-
As unnerving a footie night as I’ve known.
-
Our record in Tuesday night games this season:
Played four, won four. Goals for 15, against 3.
-
I feel ill.
-
I voted a win and a draw in our last 2 games so I've gone for a win. News of Watford getting humped would be a nice boost pre kick-off.
-
Our record in Tuesday night games this season:
Played four, won four. Goals for 15, against 3.
I like that stat. We’ve started brightly in many of the games post lockdown including against a inform Man Utd. We need to start in the same vein and score a few of our early chances. 2-1 win , very nervy last 30 minutes
-
Haven't we now won on every day if the week this season ? First team to do it in the league since Spurs in the mid-80s I think. So whatever happens, we'll always have that.
-
I won't be watching this match or exposing myself to any media or information source which may relate to me how the match is progressing.
I'll give it ten minutes after the projected finish time and check on here.
My nerves would not stand anything else.
-
Villa win - because we have to.
-
Villa win - because we have to.
...again
-
Villa win - because we have to.
Then Watford do the same?
-
4-0
-
I’ll try once again.
We are more than due an unexpected result against one of the ‘big boys’.
If there was ever a time when this was needed, it’s this game.
2-0 home win.
-

Same, including the 10 minutes. Can’t risk getting a latest score !

I'd give it 20 with all the extra added time since lockdown!!

Watford v ManCiteh ko 6 o’clock

i was thinking Arse, as Citeh are certain to beat Watford apparently.
-
Arsenal won't be bothered. They have their Cup final and their players really won't fancy getting injured before it. Smith to once again persist with our toothless twosome up front. Midfielders get us out of the shit. 2-1
-
Tomorrow evening is not going to be fun. Four hours of being ridiculously nervous.
I think I'd take a draw if Watford lose - particularly if they lose by 3 or more, which would mean that if we win at West Ham we're safe unless they also win at Arsenal.
-
0-2.
-

If there's not a big massive fuck off Trohy for that there should to be
-
We will start well but once Arsenal click and the first goal goes in, predictably heads will drop.
1-3
-
No home crowd in this situation, good or bad?
-
Arsenal have lost 4 of their last 19 league games since Arteta took over.
We've conceded 17 league goals in our last 5 league games against them, only scoring twice. The last time we played them they were without Lacazette, Bellerin, Mustafi and Tierney, and we still lost.
0-3 them.
-
If we're up for it, then I really don't see why we can't win. They can't get a CL place, they have very little if any chance of a European place, Arteta would view a trophy in his first season as the priority, if you're an arsenal player with 10 days before a final you certainly wouldn't want to get injured. I know if we were in their position no-one would give much of a fuck about losing to arsenal.
-
No home crowd in this situation, good or bad?
Bad. There's no leadership on the pitch, at least the crowd might offer encouragement.
-
No home crowd in this situation, good or bad?
Good. Being played in total silence will make it feel like an Arsenal home game. However, we have a better record against them there than we do at home.
-
I’m going into hiding Tuesday mid morning until next Monday morning.
-
No home crowd in this situation, good or bad?
Bad. Arsenal play in silence at the Emirates all the time, so it’s home from home for them.
-

Will you and Rodney Bewes duck down in the car as you pass someone who would shout out the score?
-
I really hope we win but I reckon we will get a point 1-1 draw.
-
Exciting, isn't it? No arse-end dead rubbers for us for the what, seventh or eighth season out of ten now? And we've always come good. We will tomorrow.
2-1, Hourihane and Grealish putting us 2 up with twenty minutes left, a deflected wide shot hits the post and goes in off the back of Reina's head with two minutes to go for them. We hold on, and thanks to citeh's six earlier, we're out of the bottom three. Sorted.
-
I had this down as a draw a few weeks back but since then Arsenal have somehow found themselves in their best form of the season. I'll stick with a draw but we're going to have to play very well.

Love all the Gallows humour, think how boring these pages would be if we were just languishing mid table with two games to go!
-
Heart saying 1-0, with endless heart attacks along the way.
Head says 0-2 and probably won’t be even close.
I’ll take option one and the heart attacks all day!
-
We'll be 2 up going into the last 10 mins, Arsenal pull one back in the 81st minute. They score again 85th minute but VAR disallows it. They hit the woodwork twice, they score in 93rd minute, and VAR disallows it again after a 4 minute wait.
The match thread will be littered with corpses.

Jon Crofts comes back Monday, finds a solitary post in the post-match thread left by pauliewalnuts explaining what he found here. Martin's servers blink slowly, silently. Woodhall stands alone atop his fortress, surveying below all that remains of his once great domain. Legion wonders if it was something he did. A few of us manage to drag our battered remains to VillaTalk, but for many their only future is a blanket, cocoa and a distant quiet.

This sounds a lot like Boris Johnson's 'oven-ready' deal.

This week is tense enough as it is especially given I find out if I’m being made redundant. So villa give me some hope please

Any win will do. A draw would be acceptable but if we are to lose, please let it be 6-5. I fancy Bournemouth to beat Everton and we win at West Ham. A goal difference in both results. I've always felt relegation will be decided on goal difference but looking at the table it may go down to goals scored. Watford won't win another game so the season will end with us, Watford and Bournemouth all on 34 points. We'll stay up by the skin of our teeth.
All that said, 1-0 Villa tomorrow.
-
Head says 0-2 loss however I just hope we put in a decent performance and get a win.
-
Another must win game so....
0-2
-
I’m already a nervous wreck thinking about this.
-
I don't think we are mentally capable of winning a game against one of the so called rich 6
we always shit our pants
we could be 3 nil up at half time and I would still not be confident of us seeing out a win
(I'm hoping this is the post people will use at about 10.00 tomorrow night saying 'this didn't age well' )
-
Arsenal are only mid-table, with nothing to play for.
I think we'll beat them & so will Watford.
We'll need to beat West Ham to stay up.
-
2-0 to us I’m confident
-
Not confidnt at all. Never am against the top six. Although slightly improved over the past couple of games, the reality is that we can't score and nearly always concede. Blind faith is needed.UTV
-
On the plus side we arent playing a top 6 side, we're playing some inconsistent dross that are sat in 10th place.
-
Mikel Arteta:
“I think the fans not being there in that ground - which is one of my favourites in England, to be fair - is a big disadvantage for them.”
-

Yes although sadly we’re pretty consistent dross.
-
But hopefully tomorrow is a real surprise and we can pull a performance out of the bag and win the game.
-
Wishing you all the best Wince -
As for the game - can't see where the goals are coming from and Arsenal are on fire - sad to say 0-4
Prove me wrong Villa
-
Mikel Arteta:

He's right, isn't he?
-
First goals everything....now that’s never been said before
-
First goals everything....now that’s never been said before
In our case, that often ends up badly as we usually end up playing ever deeper.
An opening goal in 90+ would be most welcome.
-
Think we are actually in somewhat improving form. Best Palace easily and then were the better side at Everton. Lack of threat up top aside it was the best performance for some time. Need a lot more from McGinn particularly but I saw flickers of promise the last day and Grealish had his best display for quite a while. Luiz in his current form is capable of dominating midfield. No way we keep a clean sheet so I'll go 2-1 Villa with a very nervy VAR induced finish to the game. UTV

It's probably my paranoia but it always feels like the Sky 4 (or 6 or whatever it is this month) raise their game against the Villa like they want to keep us down. We seem to take more merciless beatings. On the other hand we just shit the bed when we play them.
So either way Villa 0 Arsenal 4.
-
about time we had a game where i go . wow Villa just wow.
has not been many of them , Norwich 5-1 away I thought that but they ended up being the rock bottom losers so this has to be that wow game.
Dont let that Bournemouth six pointer fuck up my head for many years to come.
We can do this . 3-1 Villa
-
Shit or bust tomorrow morning. 2 goals from Dion and a skydiving Santa and we’ll be in the mix for West Ham. COME ON VILLA!!
-
Always thought it was a Stan collymore hatrick that won us that game. What the fuck do I know??!
-
The Watford game tonight is just as massive for us.
Just being a little ray of sunshine, remember we could get relegated tonight if they miraculously win and we fail to.
I’ll be rooting for Man City, every bit as much as for us tonight.
-
I have a horrible feeling that Watford are going to turn over Citeh thus making our game meaningless.
Sacking Pearson may have been a masterstroke.
-

How so ? If we both win 1 0 later then we win 2 0 at West Ham and they lose 2 0 at Arsenal it’s us staying up on goals scored. Difficult but not impossible.
-
If Jack and SJM can find their top form, we might just have a chance, it's certainly time Jack score, last time was at Brighton.
-
If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down
-
If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down
Only if Watford win and we don't.

Or draw and we lose.

If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down
I think I would take a Villa draw and Watford loss if offered now.

not saying I’m not confident of beating Arsenal but there’s more chance of Kylie Minogue knocking on my door tonight in her hot pants
-
If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down

Definitely. I'd certainly take a scenario whereby we need to win at West Ham and they need to lose to Arsenal for us to stay up. It would also mean Bournemouth are completely irrelevent to us.
As I'm sure we're all aware if they lose by three tonight and we get a point it would mean they'd have to win at Arsenal if we win at West Ham.

If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down
Only if Watford win and we don't.
We’ll see shall we
-
Watford win + we lose/draw = down
Watford win + we win = last day
Watford draw/lose + we win/draw = last day
Watford draw + we lose = down
Watford lose + we lose = last day
I think.
-
Well, this is a first having Villa playing a league game on my birthday!
Make it a good one Villa!
2-1
-
My point is if we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down, whether it’s tomorrow or last game.
-
It's today. Let's see what happens this evening.
-
I hope win as much as you do
-
Tomorrow morning for me in Aus, but let’s see what happens
-
Tomorrow morning for me in Aus, but let’s see what happens
Ah. Of course. Fingers crossed anyway.

Taking a sleeping tablet now with a glass of wine. I’d accepted relegation but I’m having a late rally of hope. I hate what they do to me I really do.
-
Just realised it's probably Jack's last game for us at VP :-(

Had a dream last night that we managed a hard-fought draw but Watford had managed to sneak a win.
-
Had a dream last night that we managed a hard-fought draw but Watford had managed to sneak a win.
Shit!!
-
Such an important match! We’re gonna have to do something we haven’t done all season.
-
Need a huge performance from everyone, but especially Jack! Could do with a goal or two from him really.
-
An extremely nervy 1-0 win. Arsenal introduce a number of usual first teamers midway in the 2nd half onwards and we defend a la Custer's Last Stand. I shall chance my health and watch every single moment.
-
Just get a result Villa - in any way shape or form. Just fight. Watford is an odd one - why sack Pearson with 2 games to go? Surely that's got to be good for us.
-
need a result and so I'm going for a 2 nil win.....Luiz and Grealish....onwards to Showdown Sunday
UTV
The Doc
-
I think it could end up a draw.
-
The bookies currently running on Watford 7/1 and draw at 9/4. Villa win and draw both 13/5. Randomly, the Watford draw odds look very short.
-
Clear eyes, full hearts.
-
Please win. Please. Fight for everything, work harder than they work and be brave.

So either way Villa 0 Arsenal 4.
We just stand off them way too much, you see v Chelsea how we didn't bother tackling and just let them get in as many crosses as they wished. Then a week later West Ham got into them and scored three times.
Dosen't help our midfield is really poor at pressing collectively as a unit and can get bypassed so easily and we don't have a forward with good pace and workrate as say West Ham do with Antonio.
One other thing that's really annoyed me all season is how mediocre our corners have been as that's always a good way of getting a goal v a top 6 team as a few of them are poor at defending crosses.
You look back to how poor we were under Lambert generally yet with the pace we had on the break that could work well away to likes of Arsenal and Liverpool and we got wins v them.
We just don't believe enough in ourselves or our gameplan compared to say Sheffield United when they go into these fixtures. Hopefully we've saving the result for when it really matters which is certainly tonight.
-
I have a horrible feeling that Watford are going to turn over Citeh thus making our game meaningless.
Sacking Pearson may have been a masterstroke.
They're 8/1 to win and it's 9/2 for draw so any half full type knows what to do....
-
If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down
I think I would take a Villa draw and heavy Watford loss if offered now.
A Villa win would be optimal but this wouldn't be the worst outcome. Would leave Watford having to win at Arsenal to be sure of staying up.
-
We have to win this, 2-1 Villa, can't trust anything to chance in other games, a must win.
-
We have to beat one of the Money 6 one day. Let’s make it today.
-
Hopefully Watford lose 3 or 4 nil and Dave Boulton on PA announces the result as we're coming off from the warm up. That will be all you need for the team talk.
-
Watch it, don't watch it, turn the volume down, don't turn the volume down. Close your eyes, maybe open one eye. Then the other. Have some tissues handy, don't be sure about why or which eye will be weeping. Try to enjoy it, probably not though.
2-0, 0-2, 2-1, 1-1, 0-4
-

Apologies for the infantile bollocks I’ve just posted on the politics thread , I’m just trying to distract myself from the sick feeling I get every time I think about tonight. And to make it worse , my well brought up Brummie kid brother who lives in London has gone rogue / native and is a Gooner

No way on Gods earth could we hold out on a 1 nil win unless that goal is scored 30 seconds from time
we were 2-1 up against 10 men last time and we still fucked it up
i really think we need all the stars aligned and a good dose of fairy dust to get anything from this game
-

Think I’m going to be disappointed on both counts but I’ll let you know later

We were virtually robbed by the officials when we played them away. Let’s hope the Gods even it up for us tonight.
-
Hopefully Watford lose 3 or 4 nil and Dave Boulton on PA announces the result as we're coming off from the warm up. That will be all you need for the team talk.
DS has said they'll be watching the game
Surprised by that. Not exactly great preparation watching the first half if Watford say go into a shock lead so they're then spending warm up wondering if Watford have held on and not really concentrating on the game ahead.
Brilliant strategy if Man. City are 3 up within 20 minutes though.

Deano should ban all phones and cut off outside contact, then tell the players City are winning 5-0 - unless of course it's more !

"The players will know the result. We'll probably have the game on. It's part and parcel of where we are at. We need to know what their result is, but it doesn't change our approach. We have to try and win to even catch Watford."
Inspirational as ever.
-
I don't see a problem with it to be honest. They're going to know the result anyway and besides, the bit I read was that Smith said the game was going to be on in the background. They are hardly going to be sitting back relaxing watching it. A fuss over nothing.
-
It shows that they give a shit. For that, I would rather than praise them than not.

So what he's saying isn't that they'll be watching the game.

You're so right: they might in fact be listening to it.
But in this age of incredible new technology, I think the chances are he means they'll be watching.

I really don’t think my nerves can take watching 2 games with so much at stake for us.

No, he's said they'll have it on. I don't know what it's like in your house, but in mine 'having the telly on' and 'watching the telly' are quite different.

"The players will know the result. We'll probably have the game on. It's part and parcel of where we are at. We need to know what their result is, but it doesn't change our approach. We have to try and win to even catch Watford."
Inspirational as ever.
Go on then, what exactly would you expect/want that quote to be?

I feel physically sick.

@Clampy: There's no mystery to it, I just find the general tenor of his press talk very uninspiring. I don't have any issue with him or the team keeping an eye on the Watford result, however (as most of us will be too) and I never said that I did. Soccer and Duncan both expressed surprise that DS suggested they would be seeing how the other game goes, so I provided the quote.
-
Surprised by that. Not exactly great preparation watching the first half if Watford say go into a shock lead so they're then spending warm up wondering if Watford have held on and not really concentrating on the game ahead.
Brilliant strategy if Man. City are 3 up within 20 minutes though.

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

I don't think the press talks really matter that much and besides, he said he wants to win the game regardless of what happens in the Watford match.
-
It's a pressure game for Villa either way. If Watford win we are looking up the north face of Eiger and if they lose we are under enormous pressure to win.
-
I'm reasonably calm. Think I've accepted us going down now, anything else is a bonus.
-
I think we we will go down as well. However, I think the Arsenal/Man city result at the weekend will help us in two ways. Man City will want a reaction for sure and have no Cup Final to rest for or worry about. On the other hand, Arsenal have had 2 excellent results back to back and often don't put 3 or 4 together & they will almost certainly have their minds on the Cup Final. Here's hoping we can do our bit!

Is where I am. UTV.

The players can watch The Magic Roundabout for all l care providing they give their all during the game. Any other game and I'd say it wasn't professional preparation but today is like no other. Death or glory.

Can whoever installed a washing machine in my stomach please come and remove it? I have my driving test, an o level exam and a trip to the dentist without anaesthetic at 8.15pm. Cheers

Was going to avoid the Watford game, but I’ve caved. Can’t NOT watch it. Whatever happens, and however unlikely, we need our lads to fight like lions tonight. Really need a performance and the 3 points.
UTV 💪🏼

I see that Watford team and think that does not look a bad side.
Would not be surprised if they get a result.
Hope Citeh play to their ability.
-
Watford are a good side and they’ve been good all season, albeit inconsistent and with some shockers thrown in. It’s a bit weird that they are down here but I suppose the table doesn’t lie.
-
Plan A appears to be going to plan. Raheem puts City 1-0 up

I've got my lucky beer for tonight. It worked against Palace and again against Everton, only then it ran out too soon. Extra can purchased this time, not making that schoolboy error again.
