This is massive.  Must take advantage of the recent results involving other teams.  We usually do well under the lights at Villa Park.  Come on Villa!!

I voted a win and a draw in our last 2 games so I've gone for a win. News of Watford getting humped would be a nice boost pre kick-off.

I like that stat. We’ve started brightly in many of the games post lockdown including against a inform Man Utd. We need to start in the same vein and score a few of our early chances. 2-1 win , very nervy last 30 minutes

Haven't we now won on every day if the week this season ? First team to do it in the league since Spurs in the mid-80s I think. So whatever happens, we'll always have that.

I won't be watching this match or exposing myself to any media or information source which may relate to me how the match is progressing.

I'll give it ten minutes after the projected finish time and check on here.

My nerves would not stand anything else.

We are more than due an unexpected result against one of the ‘big boys’.

If there was ever a time when this was needed, it’s this game.

2-0 home win.

Arsenal won't be bothered. They have their Cup final and their players really won't fancy getting injured before it. Smith to once again persist with our toothless twosome up front. Midfielders get us out of the shit. 2-1

Tomorrow evening is not going to be fun. Four hours of being ridiculously nervous.

I think I'd take a draw if Watford lose - particularly if they lose by 3 or more, which would mean that if we win at West Ham we're safe unless they also win at Arsenal.

Arsenal have lost 4 of their last 19 league games since Arteta took over.

We've conceded 17 league goals in our last 5 league games against them, only scoring  twice. The last time we played them they were without Lacazette, Bellerin, Mustafi and Tierney, and we still lost.

0-3 them.

If we're up for it, then I really don't see why we can't win. They can't get a CL place, they have very little if any chance of a European place, Arteta would view a trophy in his first season as the priority, if you're an arsenal player with 10 days before a final you certainly wouldn't want to get injured. I know if we were in their position no-one would give much of a fuck about losing to arsenal.

Good. Being played in total silence will make it feel like an Arsenal home game. However, we have a better record against them there than we do at home.

Exciting, isn't it? No arse-end dead rubbers for us for the what, seventh or eighth season out of ten now? And we've always come good. We will tomorrow.
2-1, Hourihane and Grealish putting us 2 up with twenty minutes left, a deflected wide shot hits the post and goes in off the back of Reina's head with two minutes to go for them. We hold on, and thanks to citeh's six earlier, we're out of the bottom three. Sorted.

We'll be 2 up going into the last 10 mins, Arsenal pull one back in the 81st minute. They score again 85th minute but VAR disallows it. They hit the woodwork twice, they score in 93rd minute, and VAR disallows it again after a 4 minute wait.

The match thread will be littered with corpses.

Jon Crofts comes back Monday, finds a solitary post in the post-match thread left by pauliewalnuts explaining what he found here. Martin's servers blink slowly, silently. Woodhall stands alone atop his fortress, surveying below all that remains of his once great domain. Legion wonders if it was something he did. A few of us manage to drag our battered remains to VillaTalk, but for many their only future is a blanket, cocoa and a distant quiet.

Any win will do. A draw would be acceptable but if we are to lose, please let it be 6-5. I fancy Bournemouth to beat Everton and we win at West Ham. A goal difference in both results. I've always felt relegation will be decided on goal difference but looking at the table it may go down to goals scored. Watford won't win another game so the season will end with us, Watford and Bournemouth all on 34 points. We'll stay up by the skin of our teeth.

All that said, 1-0 Villa tomorrow.

Think we are actually in somewhat improving form. Best Palace easily and then were the better side at Everton. Lack of threat up top aside it was the best performance for some time. Need a lot more from McGinn particularly but I saw flickers of promise the last day and Grealish had his best display for quite a while. Luiz in his current form is capable of dominating midfield. No way we keep a clean sheet so I'll go 2-1 Villa with a very nervy VAR induced finish to the game.  UTV

It's probably my paranoia but it always feels like the Sky 4 (or 6 or whatever it is this month) raise their game against the Villa like they want to keep us down. We seem to take more merciless beatings. On the other hand we just shit the bed when we play them.

I think I would take a Villa draw and Watford loss if offered now.

I won't be watching this match or exposing myself to any media or information source which may relate to me how the match is progressing.

I'll give it ten minutes after the projected finish time and check on here.

My nerves would not stand anything else.

Will you and Rodney Bewes duck down in the car as you pass someone who would shout out the score?

Match called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

I fear the above two posts will be utterly meaningless to a good 60% on this site

Definitely. I'd certainly take a scenario whereby we need to win at West Ham and they need to lose to Arsenal for us to stay up. It would also mean Bournemouth are completely irrelevent to us.

As I'm sure we're all aware if they lose by three tonight and we get a point it would mean they'd have to win at Arsenal if we win at West Ham.

It's probably my paranoia but it always feels like the Sky 4 (or 6 or whatever it is this month) raise their game against the Villa like they want to keep us down. We seem to take more merciless beatings. On the other hand we just shit the bed when we play them.
So either way Villa 0 Arsenal 4.

We just stand off them way too much, you see v Chelsea how we didn't bother tackling and just let them get in as many crosses as they wished. Then a week later West Ham got into them and scored three times.

Dosen't help our midfield is really poor at pressing collectively as a unit and can get bypassed so easily and we don't have a forward with good pace and workrate as say West Ham do with Antonio.

One other thing that's really annoyed me all season is how mediocre our corners have been as that's always a good way of getting a goal v a top 6 team as a few of them are poor at defending crosses.

You look back to how poor we were under Lambert generally yet with the pace we had on the break that could work well away to likes of Arsenal and Liverpool and we got wins v them.

We just don't believe enough in ourselves or our gameplan compared to say Sheffield United when they go into these fixtures. Hopefully we've saving the result for when it really matters which is certainly tonight.

I have a horrible feeling that Watford are going to turn over Citeh thus making our game meaningless.

Sacking Pearson may have been a masterstroke.

They're 8/1 to win and it's 9/2 for draw so any half full type knows what to do....

If we don’t beat Arsenal we’re down

I think I would take a Villa draw and heavy Watford loss if offered now.

A Villa win would be optimal but this wouldn't be the worst outcome. Would leave Watford having to win at Arsenal to be sure of staying up.

Surprised by that. Not exactly great preparation watching the first half if Watford say go into a shock lead so they're then spending warm up wondering if Watford have held on and not really concentrating on the game ahead.

Brilliant strategy if Man. City are 3 up within 20 minutes though.

@Clampy: There's no mystery to it, I just find the general tenor of his press talk very uninspiring. I don't have any issue with him or the team keeping an eye on the Watford result, however (as most of us will be too) and I never said that I did. Soccer and Duncan both expressed surprise that DS suggested they would be seeing how the other game goes, so I provided the quote.

His exact words as follows, quoted by the Meaning Evil...

Quote from: Dean Smith
"The players will know the result. We'll probably have the game on. It's part and parcel of where we are at. We need to know what their result is, but it doesn't change our approach. We have to try and win to even catch Watford."

Inspirational as ever.

Go on then, what exactly would you expect/want that quote to be?

We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

I don't think the press talks really matter that much and besides, he said he wants to win the game regardless of what happens in the Watford match.

It's a pressure game for Villa either way. If Watford  win we are looking up the north face of Eiger and if they lose we are under enormous pressure to win.

I'm reasonably calm. Think I've accepted us going down now, anything else is a bonus.

I think we we will go down as well. However, I think the Arsenal/Man city result at the weekend will help us in two ways. Man City will want a reaction for sure and have no Cup Final to rest for or worry about. On the other hand, Arsenal have had 2 excellent results back to back and often don't put 3 or 4 together & they will almost certainly have their minds on the Cup Final. Here's hoping we can do our bit!

The players can watch The Magic Roundabout for all l care providing they give their all during the game. Any other game and I'd say it wasn't professional preparation  but today is like no other. Death or glory.

Was going to avoid the Watford game, but I’ve caved. Can’t NOT watch it. Whatever happens, and however unlikely, we need our lads to fight like lions tonight. Really need a performance and the 3 points.

UTV 💪🏼

I see that Watford team and think that does not look a bad side.
Would not be surprised if they get a result.
Hope Citeh play to their ability.

Watford are a good side and they’ve been good all season, albeit inconsistent and with some shockers thrown in. It’s a bit weird that they are down here but I suppose the table doesn’t lie.

Plan A appears to be going to plan. Raheem puts City 1-0 up

I've got my lucky beer for tonight. It worked against Palace and again against Everton, only then it ran out too soon. Extra can purchased this time, not making that schoolboy error again.
