Title: Teresa O'Rafferty
Post by: Rory on May 12, 2020, 04:51:33 PM
My Grandma, born 1929 in Limerick, died 10 April 2020 in Handsworth.

A Villa fan from around the early '60s, she would always check the results, but only attended one match; due to confusion over home and away kit colours, she stood up and cheered when Leicester scored, attracting funny looks from at least two Villa players.

We went on to lose the match, but I'd like to think it wasn't her fault.

Her support was passed on to my Father, Uncle & Aunt, and we now have a further three generations of Villa fans within the family, across the UK and Ireland. Inspired by her.

If anybody would like to donate to Dogs Trust in her memory, you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teresa-o-rafferty

(Apologies, mods, if this isn't allowed.)

Condolences Rory to you and your family. Did she manage to enjoy the hurling win in 2018 for Limerick?

She used to love hurling (as do I) but unfortunately, by 2018, due to dementia, she thought I was her son and my dad was her husband, who died in 1968. In 2016 she was still very much on the ball.

In many ways, it was a relief. The way dementia can destroy a person from the inside out is truly tragic.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like quite a lady and Villa fan. Shame she didn't get to enjoy the 2018 All-Ireland win properly after such a long wait. Bet she had a few things to say after the 5 minute final. At least Villa won something that year.

Thanks BV, appreciate it.

I was only 4 at the time, so I have no idea, but yeah, I'm pretty sure she would've had a few opinions!

I still have a little ornament of two teddy bears in Villa shirts holding the League Cup that she bought for me after the '94 win. Would post a picture but not sure how to do that!

Finally worked it out. Thanks grandma, love you.
