Title: Leicester v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread.
Post by: Drummond on March 06, 2020, 02:29:53 PM
King Power Stadium. 9th March, 20.00KO.

We might as well start thinking about the next game now...

I can see us getting something from this, though Vardy is probably back again.

I think they'll want to get revenge for the cup game and, sadly, I think they will.  Midweek away games on TV never usually end well.  0-3.

Quote
While Albrighton was speaking to the press a couple of hours after full-time, it was spotted that the winger had a bright yellow Birmingham shirt tucked into the hoodie tied around his waist.

As a Villa fan, an explanation was required. Albrighton said it was the shirt of his former Villa team-mate and current Blues midfielder Gary Gardner.

When asked what he might do with the jersey, Albrighton gave a tongue-in-cheek reply: “I don’t know, maybe wash the car!”

I'm annoyed because, the other day, I read a mnemonic to help me remember the correct order of the British nobility, for when it comes up in a quiz. I've already forgotten it.

Admittedly this has little to do with Monday's game.

But, yeah. I never learn.... the order of the British nobility.

Spurs ‘were due’ an away win. Enter Villa.
Southampton ‘were due’ a home win. Enter Villa.
Leicester are out of form and ‘due a win’ while Vardy hasn’t scored for ages. Enter Villa.

Ditto Chelsea the week after.

After today’s results it’s still in our own hands. A win on Monday would be a massive result both in terms of giving the players and supporters going forward and, obviously, league position wise. This really is the ideal time to pull off a surprise result.

Lets face it. Two thirds of the team are not good enough.

They were good enough to draw 1-1 and win 2-1 in our last two matches against them.

There's no reason why we can't get a result against them if we play at the same level as those two games.

I like this and hope he plays this or something similar. Seeing as he’s never played two up top in his time at villa, not sure smith will though. He has to try something though as, stating the obvious, but we need wins now and need to take risks.

I’ll be stunned if Dean Smith plays 2 up front away at Leicester who are in a CL spot last time I checked. They are, despite our recent good form against them still an incredibly good team, and lethal on the break. If we can get a point it will be a very good result indeed. We will go 4-5-1 and defend desperately most of the game. I’ll go for 1-1.

Other than goal difference, almost identical record as Leicester league wise in 2020. Them W2, D2, L4, us W2, D1, L4. Despite our fairly shite away record, this is not a foregone conclusion. They have some good players, but team selection and formation everything for Villa.

Come on Villa boys! This is a difficult game to call as we've won, lost and drawn to these already this season. I would remember back to the Soton shambles and shake things up a bit, playing 4-1-4-1.
Nyland
Guilbert, Engels, Mings and Hause (left back)
Nakamba
Elmo, Conor, Jack and Trez
Samatta.
My active subs would be Luiz, Davis (not as a replacement for Samatta) and Anwar in that order, if required.
This team probs won't happen, but trying the same things, particularly in away matches, when they very rarely work, is not going to progress us much either.
Whatever formation or starting line-up Deano goes with, please don't have Drinkwater anywhere near the starting 11!

Anyone got any recommendations for watching the game in Lisbon?

With a couple of cold Sagres and a Pastéis de nata ;)
I'm literally just finishing a Shares now. Been here a day and had 3 tarts already....

Get yourself down to Hennessys in Cais do Sodre, it's on the left as you face the river.
Just looked it up and it's a nice stroll away after I've enjoyed some local fish.

This result of the match tonight worries me sick never mind the Corona virus.

Following my ritual from January. Same parking spot, quick slash in Maccies, 5 Guys Burger, Corona...hopefully the same positive result.

I had some fish paste sandwiches earlier, I’m a premium Inn in Glasgow and the bar only has BT sports , splashing out on £5 WiFi to watch the game !
