Huge, huge test. Leicester will likely play a full strength side. No reason for them to rest too many players if any. I don’t know how we will go into this given our numerous injuries, Man City coming up followed by league games we simply need to win. Tough night ahead is my prediction. Please surprise me Villa.
Head says: 3-1 Leicester.
-
Same team and formation as Burnley (besides Heaton and Wes) and we might get away with a one goal defeat. Unfortunately they seem even stronger away from home.
Surely we wont revert to 433 ?
2-1 them
-
2-1 us.
-
We need to take them back to Villa Park with a competitive score. A 0-0 will do just fine.
-
I will be there for this I'm hoping for a win to keep us in the second leg fingers crossed we get something at the King Power Stadium.
-
3-0 Leicester.
Over and out.
-
Everything about this screams a Leicester victory with some ease. But maybe just maybe.
Everything crossed for this game.
-
Be interesting to see how we line up, premiership is the priority but it's a semi final.
Can we risk Grealish,Mings etc?
-
Nyland
Hause
Mings
Konsa
Taylor
Nkamaba
Luiz
Guilbert
Grealish
Trezuguet
Kodjia
-
3-0, we move on, but how will they sell tickets for the home leg?
-
D 1-1.
-
Looks like Cup Scheme members are being charged today for the home leg
£25 showing as pending on my card
-
A heavy defeat and I hope we protect Grealish and Mings
-
This will be tough. Leicester are an excellent side, comfortable the third best in the league in my opinion, and it’s unfortunate that we are missing three key players.
Both teams will go full strength. A draw or, as much as I don’t like to say it, even a narrow defeat to take to the second leg wouldn’t be a bad result.
-
It's going to be extremely difficult to get past Leicester over two legs, and if we do, I wouldn't fancy our chances against Man City at Wembley to be honest. I therefore think Smith will still rest a few players.
-
Will Deano risk Martin O’Neill status by resting key players.
I don’t think so, shame this game has arrived at just the wrong time.

Yeah, the last twenty years.
-
2-2 swashbuckling draw. Oops! I meant, 3-1 to the crisp munchers.
-
I would do the reverse
Play as full a strength team as poss for cup and then a weakened one for Man City as lets face it - city is not a winnable game
-
I understand Vardy is fit for the match going 2 nil Leicester
-

Imagine the kerfuffle.
He absolutely 100% has to go full strength for Man City and will.
-
I'd take a 1 goal defeat now, get them back to Villa Park with us still in the tie.
3-4-3 again.
-
Much as I'd love us to get into a final, I'd love us to stay up more. We can't risk Mings in my opinion. A loss and we move on.
-
The main players will be benched and used if deemed likely they can change things. (Grealish, Mings, Nyland)
-
Nyland
Hause
Mings
Konsa
Taylor
Nkamaba
Luiz
Guilbert
Grealish
Trezuguet
Kodjia
This would be my team and formation other than I’d play Targett instead of Taylor if he’s fit and Davies instead of Kodja for at least 60 mins if he’s fit.
Our second string aren’t good enough to play Fulham never mind Leicester, would be huge mistake imo not to play strongest side and give this a go, if we lose we lose, but play a weakened team is effectively waving a white flag and possibility of another humiliating defeat against this lot and what for to save legs for Man City at home??
Head says we’ll lose, just hope we’re still in it for second leg.
-
I would go 3-4-3 again, though swapping Engels for Mings and Jota/El Ghazi for Grealish. You could maybe swap Hourihane for Luiz as well.
I'd actually play Nyland as I think experience is more important than rest at this point.
-

Tell that to Norwich City.
-
Second consecutive game against fans with clappers.
2-1 them.
-
Second consecutive game against fans with clappers.
2-1 them.
And pre match light show too.
-
I was chatting to a Leicester supporting colleague and his take on this match is whoever wants to win a day out at Wembley getting dicked by Man City.
-
I dunno. Man City will likely have matches against Leicester, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Man Utd in the two weeks either side of the final.
They'll probably rest players.
The winner of our semi would be underdogs against them, but no need to assume it would be impossible.
Go full strength and let's try to get rid of our ridiculous trophy drought.
-
if we don’t play are strongest side we’ve got no chance
it’s a semi final if your not going to give it your best go at this stage you might as well not bother entering next year
-
If Dean Smith picks a side similar to the FA Cup team then it will be the beginning of the end for him with fans.
I'm predicting a draw in a very nervy game.
Come On You Lions

No twatting about.
No under strength teams or resting players for Sunday.
No trying to be clever.
It’s a League Cup Semi Final with a chance to get to Wembley it demands nothing less than a full strength team and to be taken with the utmost seriousness. Winning is a habit we need to be taking every opportunity to get that mentality right.

Agree with this.
We should be in these competitions to bloody win them.
-
Has to be full strength. I think the fullbacks are interchangable Engels/Konsa and any 2 from Hourihane, Nakamba and Luiz are fine. I expect Mings and Grealish to start and will be mightily disappointed if they do not.
-
VAR being used on Wednesday. Oh, woopie doo.
-
I only heard a few muted chants of 'Wemberlee' in the last 2 games, which suggests most fans don't realistically see us going through. I really hope I am wrong, but I think it could be virtually over after the first leg; hopefully the players aren't pessimistic.
However, given that we have had some luck with our opponents to get this far (Crewe, Brighton reserves, Wolves reserves/thirds and Liverpool youth), we really must give this our very best shot and play a full-strength team.
-
If we throw this like we did the FA Cup then we deserve anything we get this season.
-
i'm still raging over the FA Cup shambles,
so if we don't turn up either in team or spirit on Wednesday i will probably spontaneously combust which is not whats needed
-
I hope you don’t explode, john e, whatever the provocation.
(I grant you, it’s a lot.)
However, there’s a little hack you could use to cool down drastically when needed.
If the red mist gathers, your shirt seams pop and you turn green, look to get under the massive beer showers that greeted our goal at Fulham.
-
Not optimistic at all. Going more in hope than expectation..
-
A footballing lesson. 3-0 home win.... game over.
-
I'd be very disappointed if we dont play a full strength side and give this time everything. It might not be enough, but we must try.
I wonder if complacency has set in amongst the funny talking mutants from the East? They've not managed to sell out their IKEA stadium, despite the reasonable price. They'll be foam hands and clappers going spare.
There was always more aggro at Filbert Street and now their Flat Pack hovel than anywhere else we go and I include the Sty in that.
-
I fear we will return with more anal orifices than we set out with whatever the lineup.
-
Will Deano risk Martin O’Neill status by resting key players.
I don’t think so, shame this game has arrived at just the wrong time.
Yeah, the last twenty years.
I'm laughing out load, but crying inside.
-
I reckon he'll play a reserve team and they'll play a full strength team and we'll lose.
-
We concede at least two goals in every away game and with Kodjia arsing about up front I can't see us scoring more than one. I'd take a 2-1 defeat right now and get back to VP still in the game with a rocking full house behind us and a few new signings in.
Anyone else in the Leicester end come and say hello 👀🤫
-
I thought you were against fans of opposition teams sitting/standing with the other side?
-
Is Davis fit? I hope we are not thinking of going in with Kodjia. I also hope we go back to the 3-6-1 formation. Could be over before the second leg, if not.
-
I thought you were against fans of opposition teams sitting/standing with the other side?
It's allowed when it's me
-

Ha! Fair play.
-
2-1 us.
That's what I like to see. I'm optimistic for this.
I don't think we will lose this leg.
-
I'd expect Leicester to rest a few players, champions league football would surely trump England's secondary cup competition for them. Might be a competitive game if we go with our strongest team. I know there isn't a hope of it...but I'd like to see AEG being tried up front instead of Kodjia.
--------------------Nyland
Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Hause, Taylor
--------------Luiz, Nakamba
---------Trez, AEG, Grealish
-
2-1 us.

I don't think we will lose this leg.
Going by our recent luck with injuries we’ll lose both
-
Play jota or trez up front in my opinion. I think grealish and mings will be kn the bench for this one.
Leicester will play vardy so they will.go strong. Ss long as we put up a better fight than that pathetic showing at home earlier in the season
-
I thought we were ok until we decided to keep Mings on the pitch and give them a goal.
Indecision from the bench again.
-
Anything can happen in the cup and I didn't want to mess up the sequence. I'll go...
-
2-1 to them
-
For me, the Kodjia 'experiment' is done. So, I'd play AEG through the middle and pack the midfield in front of a back 3.
We'll lose this game, but not beyond redemption for the second leg.
-
If you drink ale before the match then be aware that the pubs have changed a bit since our last visit. It's the same around the train station but the Swan & Rushes, Charlotte and the Criterion have all gone.
-
I'm going for a 1-1 Draw.
-
anybody waiting to see what the first leg score is before buying tickets for the second leg ?

If we're going to play a midfielder up front I'd rather it was Hourihane. He is actually a very good finisher and has a deadly strike.
-
Is Drinkwater eligible ?

Better let Danny know
-
Is Drinkwater eligible ?
Cup tied, I believe.
-
That's a shame
-
It’s a semi final. He has to play a full strength side - or what’s the point.
-

and it should make that decision easier because we have Man City at the weekend and we won't be winning that no matter how many players he rests
-

Cup tied, I believe.
So he is therefore available for a pre match drink at his former club ;)
-
All seems a bit futile.
-
It does- especially as it looks like we’ll be facing Man City in the final, should we get there. Ya gotta believe though!

We've moved from rank outsiders to win the League Cup to firm 3rd favourites in a couple of hours !
-
1-1. We have to go for this, you can't be this close to a final and not at least put your best foot forward. Fingers crossed.
-
Them 2-1 Us
-
I think being without the likes of Heaton and McGinn will be too much for us over the two legs but you never know.
-
Interesting that on none of the five occasions that we have won this competition have we won the first leg of our semi-final.
-
caribou second string cup team tonight.....also the only 'fit' 11
Nyland, elmo, taylor, engels, konsa, luiz, hologram, angela, jota, kodja, trez.
god help us all and a Leicester Mancity final.
-
Usually these days I’m never too sure how most matches are going to turn out but every so often a match arrives where I have absolute certainty of the outcome. Those matches usually involve (obvs) Man City and Liverpool.
Tonight’s match falls in that category. Tbh it has all the makings of a record breaking horror show, hope I’m wrong.
-
The outcome of this match depends on our approach. Should we select our best 11, and that includes Mings and Grealish, and stick with the formation played at Burnley then we can compete.
Anything less than that will show our intent towards this competition and the outcome is likely to be horrible.
Scenario 1: 2-1
Scenario 2: 3-0
-
Haven't got a clue what's going to happen tonight. I hope we put in some effort so that at the very least we have something to go at in the home leg.
-

This.
-
Interesting that on none of the five occasions that we have won this competition have we won the first leg of our semi-final.
So we're hoping to lose? I like the idea of being positive regardless. I just hope we don't get stuffed and there is something in it for the second leg.
Our lot should be well up for this after the dicking we got.
-
Good luck Villa boys tonight! UTV!
-
Fucking Norwich got a draw there the week after they splattered us, so all is not lost.
-
Hopefully play our 1st 11, this is our only chance of winning a competition this season - lets get to Wembley again!
2-0 To them
-
3-1 loss.
Mad we're going into a cup semi final with Nyland in goal and Kodj upfront but there you go.
As long as we're still in the tie for the second leg I'd take that but will be uphill task I fear given how they dominated a stronger 11 at VP.
Interested how the 3-4-3 will look against them.
-
Play defensively, 11 men behind the ball. Don't give Vardy running room behind us. Hope to get away with a 0-0 or 1 goal defeat.
Can't play the high line of the home league game. Suicide if we do.
-
Can't see us getting much out of this one. 2-1 would be acceptable in the circumstances.
-
3-0 loss and we look forward to Man City!
-
Nyland

Makes you think how thin we are :-\
-
Why wouldn't you have Marvellous anywhere near the squad?
Just curious not looking for an argument
-
getting sick of every Leicester fan saying to me I feel sorry for you lot , this could be a spanking 6 or 7 .
Come on Villa . Lets have some pride . Shut these fookers up for me .
-

Lets make this the reverse sliding doors moment, when our comeback win sets them barrelling back off to the obscurity they emerged from, whilst we never look back in our march to global domination.
-
I'm just hoping we put on a good show and if we go out it will because we simply went out to a better team across two legs. Versus playing to avoid defeat and getting hammered before the second leg.
-

IMHO he started ok when he came (I do however think the name was more exciting that the actual player) but for me every break up of play he has managed there have been several times, sometimes almost immediately after, that he gives the ball away very cheaply.
At least 3 times I can recall where it lead directly to a goal.
I am not sure that unless you have the right blend of player around him he is a bit of a liability. I think he could become good but not yet
Only my opinion of course
-
Marvelous can only tackle he can't shoot pass so well or head it I rather have Danny '8 glasses' at number 6
I also have observed Naka being rather lazy at tracking and covering , clumsy and amateurish.
Hopefully he could develop but like good old Wes he's rather limited footballer and the step up proving tricky for him.
Time and again witness him not cover or track runs by slow pace movement and I think he needs real development in some aspects .
Good luck to him as he's here but I've seen better Midfielders in championship like Kevin Phillips who would have much preferred
-
Little or no involvement from the U23s.
-
there’s a very simple barometer as to whether we really want to get to a Wembley or not
if Grealish starts we want to if not we don’t
(Obviously even if he starts it’s a long shot but without him we are just pretending)

Already getting wound up at the thought of Kodjia doing absolutely fuck all
-
He doesn't deserve to play for me. Clearly not interested, wants away in January and Archer or Vassilev would at least give it 110%.
-
Looking forward to this. Full strength team please Dean. And go for the jugular from the off.
-
Any news on if Leicester will be playing a full strength team??
-
It's a cup semi. Wembley beckons. If we're not going to go for it we might as well just wind the club up. Small Heath beat Arsenal remember. It's football, anything is possible. Playing without belief isn't a habit we can afford to get into. Belief is so important in football. Manchester City isn't the game to prepare for tonight.

True - nobody gave Blues a hope against Arsenal. That’s what cups are all about.
-
Nobody gave Blues a hope.
-
And no 433 shite with Jack on the left!!
-
Same formation as against Burnley would be a good start.
-
Hope tonight Villa climb out of their coffin and smash the Leicester undertakers square in the face.
-
We have asbolutely no chance. No striker starting and no kodjia or davis on bench
-
No Kodjia anywhere at all?
Please don't tell mem Smith is stupid enough to sell our only striking option, however frustrating he might be.
