I used to manage the William Hill on Witton Roundabout sometimes when I was a relief manager. I remember managing it on New Years Day once. I was very hungover as I had been out celebrating my cousin's birthday on the 30th and then celebrating New Years Eve.

Is the chip shop still there ?
If I remember right the chip ship was down the road opposite the betting shop and there was a post office there too.

Chip shop was in Manor Road IIRC, I don't recall there ever being another one there.

there's never been a chippy on the roundabout, there are few fast food outlets. The chippy you are referring to is on manor Road next to the post-office.

Porno mags in the newsagents
Depends which ones you go in.
So I’m told
-
I remember a Cafe on Aston Lane , which would have been opposite where the Tesco's is now. It's long gone. Every time I went in there , there was a portly Italian lad who went to the same college as me (mid 80's) . I think his dad may have owed it , but didn't know him well enough too ask.
-
I remember a newsagent/general store run by I think an Indian guy who was an Elvis enthusiast. He had the most amazing hair. He had a sign in the store saying, "Do not ask for credit as this will lead to a blue suede shoe up the bum!"
-
Porno mags in the newsagents
Random pages from porno mags showing women with very hairy lady parts stuck onto tree branches in the local woods.
Maybe not on Witton roundabout but in the woods down the road from where I grew up.
-
I remember Newsagents oposite the Co-op always brought a programme there on match Day .
-
Damo, is that where that song comes from"if you go down to the woods tonight, your in for a big surprise"
There was nothing like that going on in the woods by me when I was a kid.
-
I remember Newsagents oposite the Co-op always brought a programme there on match Day .
I can remember my amazement at being able to buy the 1984 Everton v Watford FA Cup final programme on the day of the game from the 'Lucky Star Candy Bar' on the Robin Hood island.

Pork butchers on the corner of Aston Lane /Witton Rd. Run by a German emigre.Big bruiser with ruddy cheeks and a flat top.Used to scare the beejeebies out of me.
Newsagent was Buckley's back in the day.Real heart of the area.Used to get all my comics including Mad,National Lampoon and all the latest DC.
Bike shop where I got my Raleigh Chipper from.
Wrights the bakers:always had a soup of the day from there.

Witton island sounds like it had more shops than the Bullring

It was in the good old days when corner shops sold washing machines, motorbikes, parachutes and eight track cartridge players. ;)

Ronnies Roller Rink just off the island in Witton Road.

I remember the bike shop a bit further up, on the corner of Jardine Road. I got a Raleigh Olympus from there.
