Title: Brighton vs Aston Villa Pre Match Thread - Carabao Cup 3rd Rd - Wed 25th 7.45pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on September 23, 2019, 01:36:42 PM
We go again. A game and a competition we should absolutely be looking to win. I don't want to see too many changes, but I imagine there will. However some players like Wesley need to play to maintain scoring momentum. He was dropped for Crewe just after scoring against Everton and didn't score again until yesterday.

I'll go for 2-1 to us

STEER
ELMO
TARGETT
KONSA
HAUSE
HOURIHANE
LUIZ
MARVELOUS
TREZEGUET
LANSBURY
WESLEY

Wouldn’t it be nice for Smith to try something other than 4 3 3.

I put up some wallpaper the other day that looked great in the shop, but when I got it on the living room wall, it really didn't work with the curtains.  Had no choice but to knock all the walls down and start again.  ::)

As well as needing a shake up , this time there must be a genuine desire by players and nod from the gaffer to let them know that they CAN play themselves into Saturdays starting 11.

Next saturdays starting 11 should see a centre back dropped, a central midfielder dropped and start Keinan , they’re the best options we’ve got

Why would you drop Wesley?

It’s not like he’s been wasting clear cut chances all the time and he’s now at one goal in three Prem games, which is about average for a Prem striker ( 12 / 13 goals a season ).

He’s shown if we play the ball to him properly, he’ll convert.

Wesley can be rested for this one. Along with Jack, he's one of two players we absolutely can't risk getting injured. Assuming Targett, Chester and Kodjia still not fit I'd expect something like...

Steer

Elmo (c)
Konsa
Engels
Hause

Jota
Hourihane
Luiz
Lansbury
El Ghazi

Davis

I think we might have more strength in depth than Brighton. I expect them to rest most of their team and hope our backups can beat theirs.

I think if both teams put out their strongest line ups it would be a draw. If, as I suspect both teams rotate their squads I think our squad is stronger than theirs.

Can’t see anything other than wholesale changes given the Burnley fixture is looking increasingly important. It’ll probably only be one of Trez or El Ghazi that starts from yesterday’s team - likely Trezeguet given El Ghazi played the full ninety.

Imagine it will be - Steer; Elmo, Konsa, Hause, Targett; Luiz, Hourihane, Lansbury; Jota, Trezeguet, Davis.

I have no idea what the likely Brighton second team is like at all. Don’t think we will see too many goals though.

Yeah, it is.

He does look a good player to be fair. Think the business we did on the defence is beginning to look very astute though, so seems very much the correct decision for us not to pursue signing him at that price (if we were indeed interested)

If we think its the formation then he needs to change it but keep the 1st team intact so they get used to it

If we think it is the personnel then he keeps formation and changes personnel

To change both will be wrong in my opinion

Yep. If this happens again, and they have a man sent off and we throw away a win, will teams "get one of their players sent off" so they have a better chance?  ::)

Anyway, I'm going for 1 - 0 to us.

( And VAR to explode when they realise that they need to give something in our favour. - though I dont think VAR is used in this comp )

Same. I want a cup run. It'd be nice, but honestly, my mind is already on the burnley game which is basically a 6 pointer already. Given we've been blowing out our arse in the last couple of games too, 3 games in a week isn't ideal. I'd have much preferred this game to be happening next week, ideally off the back of winning against Burnley, and having a bit of pressure off.
If we hadn't pissed away the Arsenal game I'd have been looking forward to this a little more.

I want us to win a game again. We’re coming close and falling short and that’s frustrating to everyone. Brighton are gash and they will likely have a weakened team out tonight. I just want us to win and enjoy that feeling again. It’s a massive period of games for us that if we can get through it before we hit the ones vs Man City and Liverpool will put us in a decent spot in the cup and league. We need to start tonight.
