Recently at the age of 49 I have found myself doing increasingly one would consider strange things all linked with my beloved football club.
I find myself at times on my own in my house or sometimes in public singing the John McGinn song.
I also sometimes even find myself disposed to doing a little bit of the allez song.
Worse still, the times I’ve stopped whatever I’m doing and started jumping up and down to an old bad manners number named after one of our former loan players is starting to become worrisome.
I find myself repeatedly watching the play off semi final and final key moments as well as the away support at Rotherham.
All of a sudden believe in what the manager is saying and find his unabashed quiet confidence but maintaining a humility about him causes me to have a bit of a crush.
What is happening to me? I feel I’m quite mature, sound of mind, and generally sensible in thought process.
Can you help?
-
I'm also 49.
All of the above is normal behaviour. Enjoy yourself.
-
Weird isn't it? We might have to get used to the following this season:
Playing quite well
Winning some games
Not shitting ourselves for the last 10 minutes despite being 2-0 up
Actually looking forward to watching Match of the Day
-
I used to be 49, I feel and do the same, is it okay for me to enjoy these feelings as well?
-
I’m nearly 54 and doing exactly the same.
Infact, I watched extra time and the celebrations from the PO final AGAIN tonight, it must be about the 20th time I have done that.
A grin is never far away from my face either.

No help need - your a perfectly rounded and sane person - certainly mentally. You will go far in life.
Best Wishes Witton Warrior

I'm approaching 54, and Jedinak's penalty and immediate aftermath is one of the most beautiful moments in my life.
-
I'm as excited about Villa as I was when I was a kid. It's brilliant.
Can't wait for the first game but, even if the Tottenham game doesn't go well as you might realistically expect, I really can't wait for the Bournemouth game at The Home of Football.
-
I will never be 49. I pity anyone who is.

Absolutely no chance!

Lol...I'm over 50 and feel exactly the same except I also seem to swing from tears of joy to strident loin-stirrage. Is this normal ?
-
the one thing I have learnt from following Villa home and away for nearly 50 years is that it is a roller coaster and whatever low you may feel, we always manage a bounce back.
I don't like modern football but Villa love as much as when I first eyed the club.

You young striplings have fallen victims of an illness that broke out in industrial Birmingham in the 19th Century. It was first attributed to young men breathing the fumes of street gas lamps. Due to the tireless work of a Scot by the name of William McGregor the disease known by various local names, most commonly Astonitis or Wittonism, sometimes Gasworks Delirium the illness was overcome by encouraging the watching and playing of Foot Ball. To that end a treatment centre was created first in Perry Barr then later on the Aston Lower Grounds where treatment continues to this day.
I myself have suffered from this illness for nearly three quarters of a century with periods of remission brought about by the centre falling into the hands of quacks and mountebanks.
Recently I have felt much more my normal self. When told that the new man in charge attended a local Conservative Club, I replied "Great"

It's later than you think.
-
I will be 49 next year. How the bloody hell did that happen?
-
You old fogeys. I'll only be 47 next year but I also confess to also humming the John McGin song absent mindedly at times.
-
I'm 50 and I'm still doing that and long may it continue.
-
I turn fucking 40 in October.

Again?

I'm 51. I am entirely unsure as to how that occurred.
-
I hate Coldplay with a passion. However I find myself frequently watching VillaHub's account of the last year on YouTube, and thinking that the Fix You song in the background is just perfect.
I'm now wondering if my heavy rock-dominated music collection of 40 plus years will suddenly become redundant?
Help me. Please!
-
I forgot to say I’m on holiday and keep laughing smugly at obese ideal boiler top wearers.
-
Despite my user name I am now 54 and will be 55 later in the year! Can I join in?
-
I'm 51 and keep doing the same....especially the zoom in on Deano after the El-Ghazi PO final goal because you can see me very clearly in the background celebrating! I even went to my first pre-season friendly since the Stan Collymore Wycombe Wanderers game on Saturday!!
And I'm aroused again by our work this morning!!!
-
I’m at home at the moment so have SSN on pretty much all the time.
Every time there is that whoosh of breaking news, I wonder who the feck they are going to say we have signed next.
-
Christ! I didn't realise there was a minimum age requirement for H&V!!!
I've also only just noticed the faint smell of cabbage...
-
I will be 49 next year. How the bloody hell did that happen?
And I thought you were a bloody accountant.

I subscribed to Villa on Tour on the YouTube.
I have watched the Villa On Tour Sheff Weds Away ‘Limbs’ video everyday for the last month.
I have listened to Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline on Constant loop for the past 6 weeks.
I am singing Allez Allez Allez at all moments when on my own in the house.
I have purchased a season ticket.
I am desperate to secure away refs on my ticket record.
I have watched the 6 minute Rotherham fans video of us constantly since that glorious night back in April.
I am 51 years old.
-
I have a natural pessimistic side to me and I worry that I am bursting with excitement for the season to come so naturally I fear the worst to come
I am 56 this year and I know that every time we feel we are on the cusp of greatness something works against us to balls it up
I really hope this time, more than at any other time it is different

We’re gonna find away, find a way to get away, this time....

Beat me to it!
-
Born the last time we won the FA Cup - couldn't get a ticket for the play off final but went down to Wembley anyhow - me and VCTM jnr (now 18) have been high as a kite since promotion
I've not looked forward to season so much in many years
The SJM song is constantly playing in my head - especially the version by the little girl on You Tube
I echo Witton Warrior words - I hate modern day football but I can't wait for the season to start
Good to see 3 Merseyside based fans posting on this topic
Come on you LIONS
-
52, you lot need to get a grip!!!!!!
Allez,Allez,Allez!!!!!!
-
I'm 70, just cross off the nought and you can imagine how excited I'm trying not to feel.

Dear Deirdre
I am a 50 year old male from Birmingham who had been suffering from erectile dysfunction for the past 3 years.
However since the end of May I have had a constant erection, I’ve been listening to Neil Diamond on the wireless rather a lot and I’ve found myself wanting to put posters of footballers on my bedroom wall as if I’m morphing back into my 10 year old self.
Is there anything you can suggest that might help me or should I just go with the flow?

Go with the flow, and don't forget the Panini.

Just carry on with the Aston Viagra

28, so I can't claim the crush on Dean because I feel like he's more like my dad. Jack, on the other hand...
-
I only found out today on that Villa podcast thingy that Jack is 6’2. He’s quite the brick shithouse.
-
Stick him up front and punt it long.

Which is probably why that Bluenose c**t had to jump to try and punch him.

Says he’s 5ft 9 on wiki

It was Dion who said it. Which I will take with a pinch of salt given how many times he predicts the auctioneers not to reach the reserve value on a two bed rundown semi in Burslem on Homes Under the Hammer.
-
Is everyone on H&V 50? No wonder I feel at home here.

Nope, I'm a mere 48😁
-
We are (I’m guessing) of an Atkinson vintage with a just about old enough to remember 80-82 to appreciate how brilliant those years were.

I heard that. There is no way he's 6 ft 2". I say that with great propriety and defensiveness as somebody who is 5 ft 10 1/2 - and my God, I'm clinging on to that half an inch [joke about small penises] [/joke about small penises]

How pleasing to see you are following Jacob Rees Mogg’s guidance on using imperial measurements.

Somewhere over the last 2 seasons I completely lost my interest in football. It's hard to follow Villa when that happens. Hard to explain. Looking forward to this season now but Im realistic. We have bought some interesting players but we will probably be in an relegation fight. Not dreading that though as I did b4 we actually went down.
-
48. The future is bright, for a change.
-

I used to be 49........13 years ago......but I'm still as excited as Tigger and really really can't wait, how many sleeps to go?

I don't think we will be. Mid-table.
