People - usually the Noses - rag on us for playing this at the end of any home game that we win but to me it will always be synonymous with the three years in the Championship. It was sang after our first away win for well over a year and it seemed to have a meaning that the last few years had to be forgotten and that it was now time to move on. I know its a song a lot of Villans dont seem to want played but it usually goes down a storm with most people in the ground. My point is this though, how will it look if played after a potential home win over Man City should it happen? Do other H and V's out there think its time for something else?
-
Do other H and V's out there think its time for something else?
YES!
-
Yes, although i do like the song and think it was appropriate for the reasons you mention.
-
I get the impression the only people who don’t want it played are people who post on this forum.
-
It's grown on me. We only tend to play it if we win, so if it's playing after Man City at home I'll be delighted.
-
We should only play it if we beat City or United at home. Otherwise, agreed, time to move on.
-

You'd be wrong. There's lots who like it and loads more who detest it for many reasons. We should have a referendum on it then we could have our very own division of the fan base.
-
Do other H and V's out there think its time for something else?
YES!
Eddie Cochran or Sex Pistols version?
-
New win song should be Sweet Caroline
-
New win song should be Sweet Caroline
Yes, agree with this
-
Where's this Sweet Caroline revival come from all of a sudden? Did someone sing it on the X Factor final or something? It's bloody everywhere! And it's bloody awful!

Totally agree.

McAlmont and Butler.
-
It is fucking awful to sing a song which is blatantly Mancunian.
Sweet Caroline would be an improvement.
Can we bring TBAR back…………………
-
Do other H and V's out there think its time for something else?
YES!
Tales From Topographic Oceans would work.
-
I like it and would be happy to keep it. It's pretty much the only pa played sing along song that means something and is fairly unique to us. You just know that if it is stopped the alternatives will always be Hi-ho which every fucker sings and Sweet Caroline. I personally prefer it to both of those.
-
It's an awful Manc dirge.

Yes, let ask Admin, he'd know what to do for the best.
-
It's an awful Manc dirge.
This. Detest it. I'd rather have nothing than this.
-
It's funny, for all the moaning here and on social media, the vast majority of fans sing it after the games.
Manc song, so what, who cares? What's Jeff Beck got to do with Aston Villa? Born in Surrey. Not to mention the fact that HHSL is fucking awful. But everyone claps along and sings it.
I like the fact it started organically, it wasn't forced on us.
Yes, we need to update the playlist without a doubt, but if we're blasting out DLBIA against Bournemouth, I'll be very happy.

Johnny Cash was defo a Villa fan though (anyone as cool as him must be)
saw him on the left side of the Holte one time in 77 singing knees up mother brown

Yes, agree with this
Agree too.
Also, can we PLEASE bin Allez Allez Allez?
Everyone else sings it, but we seem to do it every 45 seconds.

Haha, I like that one tbf 😎

I think we should start singing Don't Look Back in Allez Allez Allez. Then everyone will be happy.

Lots of other teams sing Allez, Allez, Allez but we have our own words to it, as do others.

Don't you mean TFAUSM, or am I missing something blatantly obvious again?
-
Sweet Caroline for me. Simply for the feel-good factor from the end of last season.
-

Got it in my head now and it's decent 8)
-
I'm OK with DLBIA as it grew organically and I associate it with a home win. I couldn't give a shit that Oasis are from Manchester. Sweet Caroline seems more tenuous to me, though I read that it started at half time away at Stoke. I was unaware of us singing it until I saw footage from the dressing room after the win at the Albion.
Allez Allez Allez I like too and we have our own words. I presume nobody is suggesting we bin Super John McGinn because we lifted the tune from Cardiff.
-
Eye of the tiger
-
-
Why exactly do we need a celebration song or leaving the ground the song?
I would much rather hear the ground sing Villa Villa after a resounding win regather than have everything orchestrated.

Two different song being talked about here.

The bells are ringing for Sweet Caroline to look back in allez allez allez.
Altogether, now.

Also had a 'Ring of Fire' after visiting the Khanum, a stone's throw from Villa Park back in the day of the Birmingham Balti guide😁😁😁

Just clicked. Blame the heat.

HH HH IUTHWG.

I still can't get over the captain of a team that's just won at Wembley, and a load of the players, with their medals round their necks, singing in front of a crowd that look like they've just rolled out of the Aston Social.

No 'kin way.
Sweet Caroline is a brilliant song in its own right. The way the horn part builds up to the chorus is perfect. It's one of my favourite songs anyway, but then its association with our march to winning the playoffs, and then hearing it twice at my daughter's school leavers' ball has cemented it in my psyche. It's a million times better than DLBIA in every single way. I hope to hear it and sing it a million times at Villa this season.

Yeh it’s a beautiful thing.

YES!
Most definitely YES
Mind you, I’ve hated the song since it was released, just like everyone else produced by Oashit.

Quite right Paulie. That Allez dirge is a pox on football

He's Johnny Cash, of course he's on the left side.
At this point I believe etiquette says that you should infer "no offence intended" to right siders. But that's not going to happen. Fkn weirdos.

That song contributed to some fantastic atmospheres home and away last season. At Villa Park, the best in many years in fact.
But yeah, it's a pox, lets bin it.

Not seen the chavtastic kit promo shots yet?
-
Sweet Caroline is a great song but I don't rate it as a song down the football. Now, if last year's team loved it then fair enough. It will be popular for a bit and then it will be forgotten.
-
Ditch Don't Look Back In Anger and Sweet Caroline as soon as possible please

There's plenty of videos out there of the whole ground belting that out against a number of teams last season and a particular version against the Stripey Filth that's very loud.
It's definitely our song the way we sing it. Hearing the Brummie twang in the 2 always makes me smile.
As ever with songs, if you don't like them, come up with a new one.
Songs don't have to be good to be good football ditties. Some resonance with a memory from an event during a game etc.
Sweet Caroline will always be the song that got us promoted. We roared them off, belted it out and roared them back on at Stoke. 32 points out of 39 and a double Midlands vanquish later, here we are.
-
Allez song is synonymous with the best times supporting Villa in our recent history, and certainly the best my 18 year old has ever known. When you get the players on the pitch singing a song at the end of wins away at the likes of Rotherham, it's become a special song with an a meaning and identity to us. Here to stay I feel!!
-
There's a lot of vitriol for DLBIA on here. I quite like it and always sing along. It could be a lot worse - remember the time when some wankspanner at the club thought it would be a good idea to play "Chelsea Dagger" after we scored? Now the backlash on that was as awesome as it was justified.
-
Blimey. Bin Don’t Look Back in Anger because Oasis are from Manchester, bin Sweet Caroline because it’s Neil Diamond, bin Hi Ho Silver Lining because Jeff Beck from Surrey, bin Allez Allez Allez because we sing it too much. How about we just all sit in silence? What is with some people? Villa Park actually had an atmosphere last season, for the first time in ages. Why would you want to take that away just because of a few songs which help contribute to the atmosphere. Leave it as it is.
-
Has to be Sweet Caroline now. Never quite understood us using Don't Look Back In Anger anyway. Seemed to me it started around the time we got relegated, which just made it seem like we were suggesting we shouldn't be sorry to go down. It's not the right tone for a win either way so bin it.
-

Exactly.
-
not a big fan of Allez allez mainly because like others have said we're just jumping on the bandwagon with it,
every other club sing it, so its not original or unique to us but then i don't suppose many are
i'm not a big singer anymore because i'm old so my views on chants don't really count
having said that my 11 year old son has spent his time since breaking up from school learning all the words to it and others from
you-tube videos
made me laugh on Saturday when it was first sang, not many times as we were quiet but he was up of his seat both arms in the air leading from the front like a 1970's hoolie,
my daughter (13) just looked at him shaking her head

DLBIA came from Reading when we won away for the 1st time in about 1 year and they played it; Sweet Caroline the team chose. Both had our end of Wembley rocking, why take that away? They have proved to be songs that anyone can join in with if only with just 'so good so good'. Bringing in a niche song that a lot of the fans have never heard just wouldn't work.
-

Given our absence from the PL and our banging return how about;
"Hello, Hello. It's good to be back, it's good to be back.
Hello, Hello. It's good to be back, it's good to be back.Did you miss me, Yeah, while I was away,
did you hang my picture on your wall
Did you kiss me, Yeah, every single day,
although you couldn't kiss me at all.
And did you love me, Yeah, like a good little girl,
Did you tell that naughty boy not to call,
did you love me, Yeah, in your own little world,
Although you couldn't see me at all,
although you couldn't see me at all,Hello, Hello, it's is good to be back, it's good to be back,
Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, I'm back again, I'm back,
I'm on the right track,
Hello, Hello tell all your friends I'm back, I'm back as a matter of fact,
as a matter of fact I'm back"
Although we probably don't want the associations ...

Although the frequency has reduced, I sill occasionally hear Rock & Roll Part 2 played at sporting events in the USA.
I've explained to quite a few people of the years why it's no longer played over here
-
I think anything Oasis did should be buried in a lead lined, concrete encased space shuttle and sent out into the galaxy to warn alien lifeforms about the dangers of letting talentless tossers anywhere near a musical instrument.

Yeah its a great shame that such a foul excuse for a human being produced some very good music. See also Watkins and the Lost Prophets

Seriously? Genuine question (and not in a better fan than yow way) were you at the games, particulalry towards the end of the season? If yes, then fine we all have out own opinions. But I find it amazing that someone thought that most the ground singing a song in unison hindered the atmosphere.
-
It might have been because it was before the game started but at Shrewsbury the Villa contingent sang 'Sweet Caroline', and it consisted of "Er, mumble, mumble, er, hands, er, HANDS, mumble, mumble, SWEET CAROLINE, WO-OH-WOH! mumble etc."
Maybe everybody could learn the words, and practise a bit.

At the end of the match?
EDIT oh, sorry, you mean Allez Allez Allez, thought we were talking about DLBIA.
Singing during the match is good. I just find it done to death, sung everywhere and not even our song.

Yes - Allez. It is sung a lot, but to be honest a lot of the songs we currently sing are just really shit. I know there was a huge feel good factor as we were winning, but when the whole stadium was singing Allez (including Tyrone) it was just brilliant. It never started as a favourite of mine, but if it's that or 'shit support my Lord' etc etc, then yeah I'll take a 'borrowed' Allez every time.
I remember the days when we regularly used to sing 'Walk on' and 'Oh when the Villa (saints) go marching in' regularly before it was deemed they were other clubs songs and we weren't allowed to sing them anymore.
-
What happened to chanting ?
I like a good chant with hand clapping. Hate that Icelandic bollocks though.
Now it’s shit songs and flag waving.

Yep, I'm a Season Ticket holder and was there. I just find 'Allez' too slow for a football chant.
In my section, there's very rarely any singing. We concentrate on sarcastic comments and have a designated 'shouting at opposition manager' bloke.

I can’t stand Neil Diamond but he wrote some great tunes.
Sweet Caroline is the sort of shite sung by screeching middle-aged piss-heads in Benidorm...or me at the Oval last year...

I rest my case!

Despite DLBIA not being everyone's cup of tea its something nearly everyone sings along to from what i've seen at games. It also surfaced in an organic way so its not something thats been engineered or forced. Allez x 3 has become a part of matchday and has been widely adopted with enthusiasm, gusto and a great sense of community both home and away. Personally I like to hear a lot of noise at games and this ticks the boxes for me - I'm sure we all prefer VP to be noisy.
It will be interesting how next season will pan out - we're on the rise after a period of shitness and I expect new chants and songs will emerge as they usually do.
-
Maybe the PA can piss everyone off equally, DLBIA if we lose, Sweet Caroline if we win, what if we draw?
