It doesn't look like anyone has started this yet.
Does anyone know how to do a poll on here?
Back in the old days we used to vote for player of the season by way of a coupon in the "News and Record".
It was called the Terrace Trophy back then (1960's).
My vote would be for Super John McGinn this season.
Absolutely love this guy.
Just a couple of stand outs amongst everything he has done this season would be:
Goal of the season contender against Sheff Wed (at home)...the one at Wednesday last Saturday was pretty good too.
Coming on as a sub against SHA and making the difference at 0-0 by driving us on to victory.
What a bargain 2.5 mil from Hibs.
-
It's a straight toss up between SJM and Jack with honourable mentions for a few others.
SJM deserves the accolade but it's been proven that there is one certain home grown Villa man that is the driving force behind this team...his injury put our season on the rails, but his return has put us back on track and literally steam rolled us into the playoff places like the proverbial promotion juggernaut.
He has taken and embraced the captaincy, and matured both as a person and a player...a true credit to Aston Villa FC, and I hope he's here to push us on for years to come and become the true Villa legend that he has dreamt of becoming since he was knee high to a grasshopper.
-
Think Abraham deserves a mention, with 23 League goals so far.
Has to be one of McGinn, Grealish and Abraham really.
Would be McGinn for me too.
-
Incontestably SJM.
-
Grealish for me. His return has galvanised us unbelievably.
In order:
Grealish
McGinn
Abraham
Honourable mention for Mings.
Goal of the season - SJM's amazing volley, followed by Grealish's rocket from the corner.
Young player - Andre Green by default.
-
Jack. His stats PWS stuck up yesterday are unbelievable. With him in the team we average 3 goals a game. He is a joy to watch.
SJM is a close second though, his workrate ability and drive is awsome.
-
Grealish for me
-
Tammy
Jack
SJM
Mings
-

Abraham qualifies for this, surely? He's only 21.
-
John McGinn.
-
Abraham has been great, and Jack has been phenomenal when he has been available.
McGinn for me, though. Never seen a player quite like him. What an arse that boy has.

I suppose so. I think giving it to a loan player rather than one of our own for the young player award would be a bit off though.
-
not when they've scored 23 goals.

not quite sure about SJM for player of the season. I’d go with Grealish just for his influence on the 7 wins since he came back from injury. I agree with you though- 2.5m seems an absolute steal for McGinn. So glad he took the hard option over the easy Celtic one. He’d go for similar money as grealish if we had to sell him in the summer (notwithstanding activation clauses in their contracts - let’s not go there again!)
-
Grealish is obviously brilliant, but it's McGinn for me. He's everything you could want in a footballer.
-

Said arse currently on display on a tweet from the club!
-
This is really tough, Abraham has been superb and scored a hatful so has to be in the mix, McGinn is a terrier in midfield who does the work of 2 and Jack is the spark of genius which makes us better than the sum of our parts. I'd also give a honourable mention to Mings for being at the heart of the turn around in the defence but he's not been here long enough to be in the discussion.
For pure impact on our season I'd personally pick Grealish (as above the stats of our results with him compared to without him are unbelievable) but I can totally understand the calls for McGinn.
-
When was the last time we had so many genuine contenders for player of the season?
Grealish
McGinn
Tammy
Mings
-
It’s Jack but my god SJM has been magnificent

-
McGinn for me.
Grealish's mere presence has seen us bounce up the league which is incredible, but with McGinn there is always hope. He has this knack of scoring wonder goals, driving the team forward as well as dispossessing the opposition. He's not an attacking midfielder, or a defensive midfielder - just a complete one. Love him and this season he's been fantastic.
-
Jack. Magnificent.

McGinn
Tammy

This for me plus I think Conor should get a mention he scores and assists I like him.
-
SJM, being sensational this season, Jack a close second, then Tammy and Tyrone.
-
As much as I love SJM it has to be Jack. Our record with Jack in the team since Smith took over is absolutely incredible. Without him it's poor.
-
Poll please, Mods...
-
SJM...... next.
-
SJM for me
at times last night he was just bloody class
Grealish second . . what a duo
-
Jack would just edge it for me, followed very closely by both John McGinns
-
Let's not forget Whelan for missing the penalty...
Can we not just award it to both Mac and Jack? The best thing is we have everyone from Jed Steer to Tammy playing with spirit. It must be a real challenge if you don't get picked now so credit as well to those who come in as cover such as Tommy E.
-
John McGinn has performed well throughout the season, but Jack Grealish has been the difference between us being a middle of the table side and one looking capable of promotion.
-
Poll added.
-
There used to be a TV award for “rear of the year”. SJM must be a racing certainty for this year.
-
I would like to add two names to the list
The twat at Hibs who sold SJM for £2.5 million
The twat at Celtic who refused to pay £2.5 million for SJM.
-
Grealish by a country mile, we were awful without him.
McGinn has had a fine season and Abraham after a slow start developed really well. Unpopular maybe but Whelan has been one of our best players throughout the season under Bruce and Smith.
Worst player - very hard to pick just one. James Chester has gone from POTY last year to get very close. Jedinak, Bolasie, BB, Nyland very much in the running too.
-
Poll added.
fucking hell to many choices Legion....:)
UTV
The Doc
-
Over the season, SJM.
-
No goalkeepers in the running?
-
You have missed out his arse in the vote!
-
I'll add a more sensible set of options after work this evening if anyone would like to provide a better list of 8-10 choices.
-
Everyone happy with those options? Others have played well but not POTS well.
-
McGinn for me
I still can’t get over how many people including the manager thought Whelan was a better option against Blues
but hey hoe I’ve got to let it go
-
I genuinely struggle to split Jack and SJM as both are vital to us and compliment each other so well. But I would give it Jack as he's the only player in the league, and one of the few in the country, that could have scored that second goal last night, he makes every other player a better player when he's in the team. Comes to something when a fella with 23 league goals isn't even in the reckoning for me.
-

See my comment from 2.47 above.
-
Grealish with McGinn a very close second.

Bolasie 'wins' for worst by a mile. He was supposed to be a replacement for Snodgrass and on similar wages to bring the same extra quality but what we got was a half fit show pony with very little end product who fucked off as soon as he got chance.
-
Specific to the poll I suspect McGinn will win, and I do understand it but I also think that our ability (as a fanbase) to value huge amounts of effort over genuine brilliance (this isn't a criticism of McGinn, he's a very good player with a fantastic work ethic, Grealish is a fantastic player with a very good work ethic) is why we sometimes accept people like Bruce and Hutton readily but are quick to write off people like Kodjia for not working hard enough, El Ghazi and Green get a lot of criticism for perceived lack of effort as well and it was something thrown at Grealish a lot a few years back.

some very good points made there mr shin
-
I think Jack edges SJM purely because his return has completely changed us.
-
SJM shades it over Jack
-
Jack. He’s top six quality every time he plays, McGinn has been for some of the games.
-
Too close to call for me.
Possibly SJM sneaks home because he's been almost ever present whereas Jack missed 3 months but in my eyes, there is literally nothing between them. They are both putting in minimum 8 out of 10 performances week in, week out.
I think the trophy should be shared this season.
-
Whelan. 8/10 every week, plus a top character. Never plays badly.
-

Seconded.
-
I have my boy all set on John McGinn being next year's Jack Grealish, assuming we won't have Jack next year. I haven't liked a Villa player as much as McGinn since Taylor and Milner. Someone my boy can respect as a role model as well as being a great player. BUT Jack is the difference between this team winning and losing. He is amazing. Perhaps SJM should shade him because he has played more matches, but I'd still have to go for Jack. What he did at St Andrews was pretty special, too.
-

Yup, reminds me of Doug, bless him...
-
So hard to choose. The best analogy I could give is SJM is a Mercedes F1 car and Jack is Lewis Hamilton.
-
A very tough question for us all to consider...would we struggle to win games without SJM as much as we did without Jack?
They are both very different players, bring different qualities to the team and compliment each other so well. The analogy from Colhint above is spot on.
Jack
SJM
Tammy
Mings
If they can't share it then Jack edges it for me, but SJM has absolutely been a legend this season.
-
How long has it been since we were spoilt for choice on a Player of the season Vote?
Jack has turned our season round but my vote goes to McGinn. He really has been immense and rarely has a bad game.
-

Great verdict.

i bet Jack himself couldn’t believe the space he was left in on the penalty spot to tuck that away. Absolute quality move from start to finish. That player is special. I know it’s championship quality that we’re up against, so the only comparison I can think of in that respect, is probably David Platt, when we were Div 2.
-
of course rthis could be made players of the season and we could give a pot each to JG and SJM.
-
Jack could be the WBO Player of the Year and SJM WBA Player of the Year.
-
What have Sandwell Town got to do with it?
-
Ha, they're so irrelevant I forgot about their initials.
-
World's Best Arse?
-
Jack. He’s top six quality every time he plays, McGinn has been for some of the games.
Disagree. Jack, by his standards, had a very quiet few games recently. McGinn is more consistent but Jack only needs a minute to change a game. Both are brilliant and it's wonderful how they complement each other. We are indeed blessed.
