Title: Aston Villa vs Blackburn Rovers pre-Match thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on March 28, 2019, 03:17:42 AM
We go again. Aiming for 5 straight. I expect to see one change to the side that beat Boro with Hourihane replacing Whelan. Will be good to see AT back on the bench also. In time I expect to see him at CB next to Mings with Hause back at LB where he was doing well.

I’m looking forward to us continuing our form so will go for a 3-1 win.

Abraham, Anwar and Grealish for us.

No time for slip ups! Blackburn are comfortable in mid table with nothing much to play for, and an early goal will see us dominate the game. We should leap frog Boro into 5th this weekend, and we can be hopeful of a couple of results going away with truly banana skin games for Derby and Preston.

Biggest home scorers against biggest away conceders.

They've got some defenders back, but I suspect they'll be a bit more open than Boro and try and play in the front a bit more via Dack. On that basis I think we'll have more chance to counter them.

Same team as Boro for me.

3-0 Vills.

Logic dictates we should win this comfortably, but this is Villa so I'm extremely nervous. An early goal or two would go down very, very nicely.

Form, stats, and the likely teams suggests a big home win, I'm going to join with people saying 3-0 but I really wouldn't be surprised if it's more than that. If we play our game and are sensible this should be a routine home win. It's also worth noting that they run out of steam, nearly half the goals they've conceded all season have been after 75minutes so we shouldn't get nervous if the first hour or so doesn't go to plan.

I hope Dean doesn't take this lightly, everything points to a home win but I think we need to put this to one side and ensure maximum effort and concentration, given that we should prevail.

2-0

5-0 Villa win.

Rovers are crap away and have conceded 16 in their last 5 away games. They all seem pretty resigned to a hammering on the Rovers forums. Lovely comment about Sid (who also played for them) on there though:

Never seen 25 and 30 yard passes with so much backspin before or since. Balls hit so they stopped in the path of the winger.

Coming up to this one with a friend who's a Rovers fan, so id advise the gamblers to lump on a nil nil.

On a side note, last time I was up, I ate in the Caribbean place by New St, Turtle Bay, are there any recommended independent Caribbean places central for a sit down ?

When SHA played Millwall not long ago, I told a Blue Nose mate that it was an 18 pointer, anticipating a 12 point deduction for financial shenanigans.

A lot of things would have to go wrong for us not to get a result in this one.

Fixtures for us to keep an eye on tomorrow:

Reading vs Preston (Preston level on pts)
Sheff Utd vs Bristol (Bristol 2 games in hand)
Derby vs Rotherham (Derby 1 game in hand)
Boro vs Norwich (Boro 1 game in hand)

...and some less so:
Stoke vs Sheff Weds
Forest vs Swansea

Preston and Derby have potential banana skins against 2 teams fighting relegation, where as wins for Norwich and Sheff Utd would be most helpful towards us securing a playoff spot.

We need to stay focused, one game at a time, and make sure we take 3pts tomorrow...a 3-0 win with an early goal would do nicely.

A quick tot-up on the AVFC app shows 700+ still available in the UT, with mere smatterings around the rest of the ground, plus those 3 blocks released to us in the Upper Doug. I don't think it'll sell out, but there's a good chance we'll be nudging 40k.

Preston to win at Reading

Stoke v Sheffield Wednesday is a tough one to call as Stoke have under performed all season and Wednesday are in decent form but I will go for Stoke to win.
I think Forest will beat Swansea.
Villa will beat Blackburn.

I'm hoping at least one of Reading and Rotherham will pick up an unexpected win or at least a draw. Sheff Weds and Forest dropping points to push them out of the picture wouldn't be a bad thing either.

I'm going to say 2-1 reasonably comfortable win. Early pressure to get a goal hopefully. Good to have options from the bench as well - Lansbury to play more than 10 minutes of competitive football without injury.

I'll go 5-1 villa.
McGinn x2,  Grealish, Abraham pen,Adomah
Mulgrew for them

Blackburn have failed to win in 12 of 13 away matches . They have scored in their last 6 away matches and scored 2 +goals in their last 3 away matches.

I think villa can get a few goals as Blackburn have also conceded 2+ goals in their last 5 away matches and do like to concede a lot of in final 10 minutes of matches.

Difficult to call it though, after the international break, and a draw wouldn’t really surprise me. A point should be enough to keep us in the hunt, if other results go our way. Would love to see us pick up where we left off though.
