A tall story? How former Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis claimed he had invented the overhead kick to Peter Crouch when he signed him in 2002.

But have you heard how he compared thigh girths with George Curtis and concluded that they were similarly equipped?

Speaking of George, I went to a game at Gay Meadow when we invaded the pitch to have a go at the Shrewsbury fans at the other end, and he was laughing his head off. Strange days, those.

Did Doug not once claim that many years back he had a spell on the books of Tranmere? Which seemed to come as some surprise to anyone who had an in depth knowledge of the history of Tranmere.

Just been listening to Lineker and Baker podcast(Very good btw) and Gary just said he turned down the Aston Villa job once!!! Didn't know that.
