Title: Sheffield United v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread
Post by: Dave P on August 30, 2018, 04:05:29 PM
Back to league action on Saturday. Has the feeling of a big game already.

Is Bolasie fit to play?

Much depends on the fitness of Kodjia jack and mcginn

I think it will be a really tough game but with those three I think we'd have a good chance of getting a result

A win would be amazing but a surprise given our form

If we outplay them for 20mins and go one up and then try and defend for the next hour or so and don’t win I can see it getting a bit fruity.

It’s essentially, due to the tiny allocation, the same away crowd as Tuesday I should think. So we need to win to justify that bag of shite we witnessed.

Bruce’s style of play will be forgiven and not mentioned if we do hang on for a 1-0 win... we’re fickle like that.😀

5 of us from Bournemouth travelling up. I suspect a good day might be spoilt by 90mins of football. Bad feeling about this one. Sheff Utd will be in our faces from the KO. Hopefully we have enough about us to try and control the game and play on the front foot.

First league defeat here I think.

2-1.

We mugged them a fair bit in the games last season so think it will balance out as we'll play quite well but surprise surprise gift them a goal with poor defensive judgement.

I can't see us winning, we look short of goals and always seem to concede.  I fancy a 2-1 defeat at the Blades and then go on a 35 game winning run after the international break.

1-1 draw for me. Despite a few lapses at the back already this season I think that generally speaking we won't concede many goals this campaign. I am however concerned about where our goals will come from. I don't expect us to be prolific in the goal scoring stakes.

This is as big a league game as Bruce has faced since he arrived for me. A win and the hysteria is crushed again and we "go again". A loss and we "go again" after 2 weeks of handwringing on here that will start to spread casting doubt on our promotion credentials and piling on the pressure for Blackburn. I have a feeling that we are at a watershed for Steve Bruce over the next month.

I think we will lose tomorrow.

Same team for me also - if McGinn not fit then swap him for Bjorn

But you know it wont be that team - Elmo scoring 2 in 5 games will cement his place out on the wing which is a shame as I feel he actually adds more at RB

Assume Tammy is fit to start as he's been training with Chelsea. If so, I fancy us, particularly with the reshuffles that will have on actually allowing our players to.plau in their best positions. El Ghazi moves to right, Kodjia left, Elmo to RB and Axel alongside Chester. Bruce's choice of DM for this game will be interesting.

Bookies have the blades slight favourites. The H&V poll is a bit more decisive. Too many unknowns to call this, so with the cautious optimism that comes with a bad back that seems to be improving, I’m going for an away win!

That's because a load of people who didn't see us play on Tuesday are backing a side they may have seen play once this season (and get beat) to beat an almost entirely different Villa side.

Sheff U play some football around the pitch but attack wise quite ineffective and a bit huff puff.

They don't have a striker of Kodija pedigree and I think he will be difference .

1-2 today a much needed 3 points

Aston Villa have won five of their last seven away matches against Sheffield United in all competitions (D1 L1).

Aston Villa have won more points from losing positions this season than any other Championship team (7). In 2017-18, the Villans won 10 points from trailing situations.

Steve Bruce has won seven of his eight matches against Sheffield United as manager (D1), including all four at Bramall Lane.

I've gone for a draw this afternoon (1-1), but that could change - depending on the starting line-up. I know we have injury doubts ahead of the game (nothing new there then), so I expect a typical Bruceball performance to delight the travelling support. Lovely, great, super - and indeed - smashin'.

Chester to pick up an injury so Tommy can come in - oh forgot Bruce got rid without a replacement

Not sure if serious... if so, the opposite should apply - wobbly at the back but if Bruce can't get us averaging close to 2 goals a game with the attacking talent we now have he deserves to be driven back to live in Sunderland til he dies.

yep, you don't back the manager like we have if you intend to sack him after 6 games. The mistake was backing him in the first place. I can see him going any time from next month till the end of the season but i don't think the timing of the sacking is gonna help us get up. Damage is already done.

It will be Nyland in goal and then 10 outfield players drawn from the hat at random, fitted into a formation decided by a dressing room lucky dip, or he might just ask the chosen 10 if they can agree amongst themselves how to line up.
