Title: Villa Park- the new home of English football?
Post by: Madferret62 on June 08, 2018, 12:45:55 PM
This will be heresy to some, but screw them here goes.

Wembley is a crock of shite. It was built at astronomical cost (the builders must have laughed themselves silly when the
Rice was agreed), it’s difficult to get to, is set out appalling badly, facilities and access for disabled are not fit for purpose. It’s not even as good as Arsenal’s ground.

Hopefully, it will be sold off. This will give the FA the opportunity to rethink the whole National Stadium approach. What better venue than VP? Tried and tested down the years, excellent transport links, much easier for everyone fan of every club to get to doing away with the him advantage for the London clubs.

The National team belongs to everyone and it’s about time  that all fans got good access and what better place than the best ground in the centre of the country. FA could chip in a few quid for required improvements and everyone wins.

If they had listened to Doug on probably the only sensible thing he ever said we would already have a National Stadium by the NEC for approximately one sixth of the cost of the new Wembley.

I'm excited at the thought of Wembley being sold.

Hopefully they can get it right this time and have the England team play in Birmingham!

Not sure 35k in a stadium that holds 90k would be a good visual

The National Stadium should indeed have been built at the NEC.

If the FA now sell Wembley then the England team should be like other national teams and play around the whole nation, I believe the game at Elland road last night was a great success in terms of attendance and atmosphere.

Villa Park should figure on that circuit but whilst Birmingham and the West Midlands remains such a deadzone for top flight football I suspect the FA will use that as an excuse to keep the games in London and Manchester/Merseyside.

And NO, I don't expect At Andrews to ever feature on such a circuit

Surely they'll use Molineux?  It'll hold 100k by then, and they'll be Champions League holders too.

A 'New Villa Park' / National Stadium just off the M5 near Worcester is the way to go.

I certainly think somewhere in between Birmingham and London would be good, about an hour for midlanders and an hour for cockneys, a bit closer for Northerners and no London traffic.

I'd be happy if Villa Park was still the home of Aston Villa next season.

Keep Wembley, but just play more games around the country.

Let's face it, it wouldnt be the same. I wonder how many West Ham fans wish they were still at Upton Park?

I was at Elland Road last night and it was a good evening - good atmosphere and good vibes generally. Pricing wasn't crazy.
Downsides: (i) ER really is a bit of a shithole; (ii) the Leeds fans in the crowd were rather too interested in Leeds; (iii) my tickets were in the North stand - their 'kop' - so I was surrounded by meatheads who insisted on standing throughout the game and trying to start off the No Surrender bollox.

I watched the second half on the telly. It sounded like a Costa Rican band was playing with everybody chanting non-stop. All I heard from Engerlund was boring old God save the Queen.

Totally the right way to go. So long as they're fair about it and not just use Old Trafford as England's second home.

As I understand it, the reported sale price reflects that fact that the FA retain certain rights and ticket receipts. Therefore I’d assume most key matches would still be at Wembley however the stadium will undoubtedly be utilised for more events/concerts/NFL etc

With the debts paid off (presumably) you’d hope that the FA would explore moving the games around the England games around the country though.
