Title: Bolton Wanderers vs Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on March 16, 2018, 03:19:09 PM
Late kick off. Big bounce back game needed after a dreadful defeat vs QPR. Essentially need to target 9 wins and hope for Cardiff and Fulham to drop points. Won’t be easy at Bolton but a game we simply have to do the business in.

Normally go to this fixture - just up the road
Cant make it for personal reasons - hope the thousands who travel up have a rewarding day out
Praying for a morale boosting win to keep us in touch but my head says it will be a disappointing draw 1-1
Prove me wrong Villa

There appears to be more interest in the two word game on here than the Bolton game! Have we surrendered this to Cardiff already? If Villa turn up, we will nick this one either
1 v 2 or 0 v 1. We simply have to if Cardiff win.

Although it's being billed as our biggest game of the season, I feel less pressure than I have done for a while. We need at least 10 points from our next 4 games - If we don't get them, i fear we can kiss goodbye to second place.

It all depends - self-evidently - on who the manager selects and whether he unleashes the positivity that we had vs WW or whether we clam up and play a defensive game.
Difficult to call: 1-1 feels like the obvious outcome, but we may nick it.

Heart says 0-3 and a big response to Tuesday, goals for Jack, Grabban and Snoddy.

Head says 1-1 with us putting in one of our 'park the bus' performances from the Autumn with us clawing a goal back late from Snoddy after going behind.

For the vote I've gone with my heart but I'm not confident.

Just put £5 on Bolton at 7/2. With my recent betting form that means we are at least guaranteed a point so that will be a fiver well spent. Perhaps I should put a fiver on the draw and that means 3 points...a tenner for a win is well worth it.

Win today and we're still in with an outside chance of auto promotion. Drop points against another average championship side and you would have to say we don't deserve auto promotion. Did we peak too soon against Wolves? I hope not. I guess we'll find out today. 3-1 to the Villa. Grabban 2, and one for JT.

Well then, we'll see whether Tuesday's dreadful 'display' was a blip - or the beginning of the end to our promotion ambitions. The players HAVE to put in a performance for the manager & supporters alike, so another failure is not an option.

1-2 Villa (although I voted for a draw earlier). Lets be 'avin you!

I said it earlier that QPR had to be a wake up call, and it also needs to show how the available  players need to plug the weakness holes effectively.

We will win, but it wont be easy or pretty, but only if they are brave.

Not too confident today but we can definitely win

Jedinak will surely be rested

Concerned about Bree at left back

Only the coaching staff know who is genuinely match fit. I just hope they’ve got the balls to make changes if needed. Too often Bruce sticks rather than rotates when it’s clear we’re leggy

Yup. We only struggle against the teams that can play football. I can't see Bolton outplaying us today. It will be a fight but we should have too much for them. A very handsome Villa win today and we're all left to wonder how we managed to lose to QPR. 5-0 Villa

We struggle defending set pieces.

Saw Bolton a fair bit in league one last year and they scored a fair few from corners, David Wheater (remember him) scored about 10 for them.

They will target Johnstone and also Bree given he's out of position and not the biggest.

This is a must win to keep our top two hopes alive.  I think if we dropped points and Cardiff win tomorrow it would be extremely hard to get second.  Bolton are improving too.  But I think away from home we will dig in and play an effective counter attacking game to nic a the win.  1-2.  Terry and Grabban to score.

Want to flag up Bolton and ill discipline. 83 yellow cards this season. 2nd only to Preston.
Now some may recall ex wolves player, a limited plater , Karl Henry well he's boltons midfield enforcer picked up 11 cards in 25 matches.

Don't rate him as any sort of footballer and only in their to disrupt or foul. Hopefully ref is on it as he'll try and bully grealish and others.

Actually looking at Bolton team. There are few more limited players who will give fouls on Jack grealish  so villa players will have to keep cool.

John Flanagan on loan from Liverpool is nothing but a lower league basic defender.
I imagine Jack and Albert will enjoy playing up against him.
With this in mind there is definitely a chance for him concede free kicks and even penalty.
And there is also good potential for bookings and red card for Bolton.

Beevers, and if wheater play, are a danger from set pieces but can easily get turned defensively and prone to fouls and cards.
