Here we go boys and girls. The pursuit of 8 straight wins starts this afternoon at Craven Cottage. Will be a tough game. Real shame that Jack and Albert didn't make it.
-
WTF is that?
-
Disappointed that Andre Green fails to make the bench again.
-
No Jack or Albert? That's a blow. This is a really tough game, come on Villa I feel any points here would be a result.
-
Looks unnecessarily defensive to me. Only three players that you'd describe as attackers, including Hourihane.
-
WTF is that?
4-5-1 of sorts I think. I'm trying to work it out myself. Thor isn't playing in a defensive role, so maybe he's taken up the Jack role, just behind Hogan?
-
Both out injured?
-
Disappointed that Andre Green fails to make the bench again.
He hasn't made the 18 since the Peterbrough game. No idea what's up.
Think this will be a tough 90 minutes, would be very happy with a point. Limited attacking potential if Snodgrass isn't on it.
This is similar 11 to what we put out v Posh.
-
4-2-3-1 Barney out left?
-
Surely Callum O’hare would be the like for like replacement for grealish?
-
Im guessing axel at RB, Elmo pushing up and Snoddy playing behind Hogan. Thor on the left.
-
It’s Villa isn’t it. If there’s doubts over both then both will be out you can guarantee it.
-
Three defensive midfielders in the team with another two on the bench. As you say, Dave, looks unnecessarily defensive.
-
Oh god. It's going to be a Brentford type performance I fear.
-
Both out injured?
yep. Big blow for us and conversely a big boost for Fulham
-

Positively McLeishian.
-
It will be 4141 with Snoddy and Elmo wide and Thor inside with Connor.
Thor playing in his natural position for the first time. Axel's pace will be handy.
I see only one defensive midfielder; Jedinak. Axel is a centre half who can play full back of midfield. Thor is an attacking central midfielder who we've shoe horned into defensive midfield, full back and wide before.
-
I hope the confidence that the team has flowing through them gives them the belief that they can win this game irrespective of who is in the line up. Also that Bruce is sending out Hourihane, Bjarnason and Snodgrass as attacking players with Jedinak and AT behind them.
-
Green would've offered width and pace - at least as an option off the bench....
-
Bruce wonders why he gets the stick ....... we have no real idea how we will line up today ......surely the simple answer would have been Green for Albert and Josh for Jack but no we seem to wish to move around half the team
Always a tough one today looks even harder now
-
Looks like we are going for the draw or narrow loss.
Go for it team Villa!
Last negative post today, I hope
-
Both out injured?
Nah, dropped for their part in the first goal against Blose ;)
-
Green was diabolical against Peterborough, which is fairly obvious explanation for why he's not been included recently.
-

We're all naturally concerned but I suppose the retort to that would be lets see exactly how we set up and play. But it is something in him to be cautious when in truth he has the options not to be. And he might look at a draw as a great result in the grand scheme of things given the gap to Fulham and the games we've got coming up.
-
With our two most attacking/creative midfielders out I’m not too sure who there is to come in as replacements? Green keeps getting mentioned but he must be either injured or not doing whatever it is they need to do to make the team.
-
I do hope he's not playing Bjarnason in Albert's attacking spot, because every time he has played there he has been chuffing awful.
-
A solid line up and the players full of confidence. Professional performance please.
-
Not a great line up.
Still, let's win.
UTV
-
If we are confused by this team sheet imagine what it must be like for the opposition.
Hope our players know what they are supposed to be doing.
mmmmmm
1-0 to Fulham I'm afraid because if we give a goal away I struggle to see how we will pull it back
-
I can't recall him playing in central midfield.
-

I would guess the same Ads.
-
Bruce seems to have done a U-turn on bringing Andre Green through this season. V disappointing and he deserves a chance from the bench in this game given the circumstances.
-
Green would've offered width and pace - at least as an option off the bench....
I would have thought he would have been perfect replacement for Albert.
-
Im at a loss as to the apparent bewilderment. Hes brought in a full back with pace to replace Elmo, who is replacing the injured Adomah. He's not included Green as he looked desperate against Peterborough. He's brought Thor into his natural position in the central midfield instead of Lansbury.
Seems fairly obvious replacements to make.

-
Bruce out
-
What's pretty funny with that line up, is that there are 3 CM on the bench as well
-
Oh god. It's going to be a Brentford type performance I fear.
Not 4-0 anymore then?
-

On what evidence does Green deserve a chance? He was crap against Peterborough.
-

It was his first game in months.

I agree that some of the responses have been a tad vociferous. How we end up lining up is always a wait and see. It think this side before Brentford would have been ultra negative but there is a chance now that it’s just more resolute in the right places. We can’t be wide open vs Fulham, and there’s still sufficient talent in there to score goals and defend well. And we have options off the bench to change things. Let’s see how we set up and the attitude we go into the game with.
-
Is Cairney playing for them he was a doubt I bet he is.

Call me mental but I'm gonna stick my neck out and have a bit of faith in the manager who's just won 7 on the bounce...
-
Against Peterborough Green was coming back after a long injury, nearly scored in the first 5 mins and was subbed at half time when we were winning 1-0. I can't see Elmo playing on the left, Thor will play there I feel. Today we're not making like for like replacements, some players will be swopped around.
-
Oh god. It's going to be a Brentford type performance I fear.
Not 4-0 anymore then?
With our two best attacking players out, I fear not, no.
-
Don’t see any goals in that team.
*whistles innocently*

We've just won seven on the bounce by playing an attacking lineup, following a slightly ropey run of form when we played very defensively.
We've now decided to revert back to playing eight defensively-minded players. Fingers crossed it'll work. Just seems a bit regressive to the time when we were rubbish, rather than the recent games when we've been very good.
-
Green hasn't played since September, was understandably poor against Posh. Hasn't been in the recent U23 team. Therefore he's either not fit or not ready.
We've lost a lot of creativity & goal threat.
Keep it tight & open it up for the last 20 mins.

That’s the other side of it. That playing away against a good side, on the back of 7 wins Bruce could have been more ambitious. The natural concern is that we now will let them have all of the possession like we did at Wolves and get beaten for not trying to take the game to them.
-
In bruces''s defence ( I don't defend him often) his hand has been forced through injuries. If all the players step up to the plate today we can still get a result. Come on you lions.

Are you watching on a desktop or mobile device? On mobile it is available through the app. On your desktop it should be on via Matchday then click on the match centre.
-
On desktop thanks Toronto. The website is painfully slow and badly laid out. Thanks for your help.
-
Let's not worry too much about Green. I expect the formation to be:
Johnstone
Elmo JT Chester Hutton
Jedinak Axel
Snod Hourihane. Thor
Hogan
Axel will turn out to be the new Patrick Vieira and all will be well.
-

He scored a brace against the Albion a couple of weeks ago for the U23s.

No problem. I agree with that. It takes too much effort/too many clicks to find the live match link in my opinion. Should be a lot easier.

Assuming that's what he does, which I'd be amazed at. Why would would he disrupt the Elmo/Snodgrass partnership when he doesn't need to?

Come on you fucking Lions! 3 points. Funeral them!

If we do revert back to an ultra defensive set up then I'll be the first to be disappointed. However, as people have said, Barney's natural position for Iceland was attacking mid and with Tuanzebe giving Elmo free rein to push on and supply crosses I think Bruce has at least earned the right for us to see how we actually play before damning him...which is what some are doing before a ball is kicked. -
Come on the Villa boys!!!!!
-
Can’t seem to get AVTV to work, any ideas which page it is on?
-
Got it
-
It’s ok.
Let be defensive, draw their sting and then nick a goal.
A one-nil scrappy, shitty, scutty win will be fine.
-
AVTV - I have video but no sound. Is it just me?
-
any way of watching this without avtv? pm me pls if so
-
AVTV - I have video but no sound. Is it just me?
Try and restart. It’s all good for me.
-
Mine is working fine.
-
Bjarnason giving it away twice in quick succession there.
-
AVTV sound now working.
-
Well it’s all Fulham to start with. Not unexpected. We’ve given the ball away carelessly a few times.
-
any way of watching this without avtv? pm me pls if so
Second this^^ please!
-
The video looks like Zapruder is filming with the same camera he had in Dallas.
-
This hasn't started very well.
-
Fulham have got the sun in their eyes. Get into them!
-
I’m all for “home team” commentary but this bloke gets a little too excited too quickly when we get the ball in their half let alone do anything with it.
-
any way of watching this without avtv? pm me pls if so
Second this^^ please!
Third please
-
Decent move and chance for Hogan.
-
Agreed re commentators. Tits being got on already.
-
Axel is right back by the look of it
-
That was promising. Looks like we'll be playing on the break a lot today.
-
Poor Baggies. Losing 1-0 at home to Southampton in the cup.
-
Baggies 1-0 down to Southampton.
-
Axel is right back by the look of it
Very shaky by the looks of it
-
anyone give me the names of the facebook groups that sometimes broadcast?
-
We are making them look like AC Fulham.
-
We’re letting them have way too much of the ball. Just like we did at Wolves. We’re the team on 7 straight wins so got at them. Why be subservient? This is the version of Bruce that is so frustrating.
-
We are making them look like AC Fulham.
Yes they're passing us to death at the moment.
-
Fuck me great run and shot by Thor. Very close
-
Axel is right back by the look of it
Very shaky by the looks of it
To be fair I think Elmo would struggle against Seesignon today so as soon as he settles down he’ll do a better job
-
Well with no Kodija, Grealish or Adomah we are going to lack as a credible attacking threat, against team against the league's 2nd highest goal scorers who are also more than capable of letting a lead slip.
-
Snodgrass is so much better down the right
-
This is better.
-
Sunderland losing already
-
anyone got any streams to PM?

anyone got any streams to PM?
ME TOO PLS!
-
Good to see us pressing high
-
anyone got any streams to PM?
Also looking for a stream here. AVTV deciding that Ireland is part of the UK again and not offering the option for us to be able to watch live is extremely frustrating and stupid.
-
They don’t look good enough to play around with it at the back once we put them under pressure.
-

If only there was a way of hiding your IP!
-
WTF was that Elmo?
-
Elmo what the fuck was that?
-
For the benefit of those of us not watching it, what actually was that by Elmo?
-
I've never seen two teams pass back to the keeper so many times.
-
We’re really playing with fire here letting them have the ball so much.

Promising break on the right and he hoofed his cross into their keeper's arms.

Me too, please (for my dad). I've got avtv on, but he's living in England, so can't access it.

Does this work?
-
We are so much less adventurous without Jack. He controls the tempo and we are very disjointed without him
-
Hourihane pulled down in the box, penalty not given
-
Greetings from France Nik!
-
They don’t look good enough to play around with it at the back once we put them under pressure.
Agreed they are obviously not used to being pressed at the back
-
Sunderland 0-2 Brentford. Hurtling towards League One without any desire to stay up.
-
Nevermind, got it sorted!
-
Ref seems a bit of a homer
-
Snodgrass very lucky not to be booked there.
-
Ref seems a bit of a homer
Well he should have just booked Snodgrass and didn’t.
-
Fucking hell Bjarny! Listen to the crowd. Man on!
-
Cardiff leading.
-
Sunderland now 2 down.
-
Cardiff winning
-
AVTV stream quality is not good.
-
Fucking hell the AVTV commentator needs to simmer down
-
Good attack from Villa there. Bit of excitement.
-
Greetings from France Nik!
And a good evening to yourself from Tokyo, mate! We'll win this today! My wife just remarked that 'Villa Park looks smaller today'.....bless her.
-
Axel looking quite good I think.
-
They moan a lot don’t they?
-
AVTV stream quality is not good.
It's on my 42" screen via my 4g hotspot and it's ace. The cameraman is using a Fisher Price camcorder though.

I guess that answers the VPN question 🤐
-
Cardiff leading.
They're having a great season, aren't they. It'll be good to get them at Villa Park.
-
Axel looking quite good I think.
His covering has been good and generally kept Sessegnon quiet. But he’s trying to do too much when I’m possession and he’s given it away too often.
-
When we show purpose we look good.

Haha. What on earth are they filming with? Same here though, the stream coverage is excellent.

I have it on my iPad but broadcast onto my 58” Samsung via Apple TV. The picture quality could be better.

55 " via HDMI from a laptop (needs a bit of power because there are ridiculously many plugins running on the site polling) and it's good. Though only one camera and i think it makes the game look slower.
-
Need to give Mitrovic a bit of gip, he looks like he’s having one of his moany days
-
When we push them back they are very average. When we let them play their midfield and forwards are dangerous and quick. We have to find some balance here because the current approach will end in them scoring.
-
We don't look to be playing too badly but neither team seems to have a lot of teeth right now.
Painful one just now for Elmo.
-
Would like to see Grabban in this game. Think we could do a lot better with 2 up front.
-
Down to third as it stands.
-
Dangerous free kick to them. Defended it well
-
All OK.
-
3 minutes added.
-
How is that a foul?
-
Fuck the fackers!
-
It has a 1-0 smash and grab for us written all over it. Come on Villa!
-
HT - we’ve been second best but have had a couple of looks. They aren’t great when pushed back and we have to take advantage of that.
-
HT.
-
Another pony ref
-
We can do these.
-
I don't think the way we're set out is too bad considering the fact we're away, the opposition and the players out, but Christ we've picked the worst out of our three strikers to play that role. Baffling from Bruce.
-
1 shot on target so far today.
1 goal will win this if there is one.
-
HT - we’ve been second best but have had a couple of looks. They aren’t great when pushed back and we have to take advantage of that.
They look dodgy at the back, but we look tame up front.
Would like Ohare as an option.
-
Lack of quality from both teams. Snoddy looks massively less effective on the left, and Elmo is rubbish as a winger. Bjarnason only has a fraction of Jack's attacking ability so no surprise we haven't troubled their keeper yet.
-
Defended well, not that they've offered anything.
Axel has Sessingon in his pocket. Hourihane is the weak link at the moment. Too deep and not getting close to Hogan.
Elmo has wasted a few opportunities to get the ball in. Very even, but they're falling over all the time.
-
A professional first half, keeping things tight but also creating a couple of chances too. Not sure if I want Bruce to open the game up going for the win as we could be vulnerable to their quick passing and moving.
-
Hourihane is the weak link at the moment.
Worldy goal aside, Hourihane has been disappointing for ages now.
-
It’ll finish 1-1. Snodgrass for us and Terry OG for them, you heard it here first.
-
We've pressed them well throughout and Fulham have mainly gone into their shells when we do. Jokanović is likely to change it around second half so we'll need to adjust. It's a shame both Hogan and Bjarnason have bananas for feet as both get in great positions but no end result. It's almost comical.
Very impressed with Axel but overall I can't see where a goal is going to come from. Attacking the Villa end second half, it would be a thing of beauty to see them all celebrating behind the goal.
-
Hourihane is the weak link at the moment.
Worldy goal aside, Hourihane has been disappointing for ages now.
I think he is being asked to run around a lot.
-
Onomah is coming on.
-

Warren Aspinall got a season out of us for doing that and little else
-
Hourihane has been poor for a while admittedly. However,he offers an awful of of energy and generally presses as well as anyone in the team, plus we've seen he's capable of the moment.I don't think there's anyone else in the squad,up to that role, whom is as tidy with the ball.
I hope we carry on in a similar vein in the second. They'll get frustrated...We will hopefully win a few set pieces, which I think could be crucial...Hopefully Cairney hasn't got 90 minutes in him either.Without him I think they'd be toothless.

Really hoping that Grealish and Adomah just missing this game does not manifest into them missing any more games. We look very ineffective without them.

Stopping the giving it away like twats would be a bonus.
Stopping the giving it away like twats would be a bonus.
We really don't do ball retention well. Maybe at home, at times, but we haven't fecking had possession long enough here in the second half to even try to fashion an opportunity.
-
Snoddy trying his best there, mind.
-
Grabban coming on.
Grab the game by the scruff of the neck, and grab a goal.
Come on Grab'!
-
Got to be Shit or Bust now. Just go for it.
-
Yellow card you dirty fucker!
-
Grabban on for Jedinak.
-
Yellow for that ****** who broke up our break.
-
That Johansson looks a fecking eejit.
-
That Johansson looks a fecking eejit.
Good player at this level.
-
Cairney is decent for them.
-
Paying the price for too negative approach and giving a mediocre team too much respect.
yep this is like early Villa under Bruce.
-

yep this is like early Villa under Bruce.
Injuries forced his hand really.
-
Just over 20 minutes plus injury time to go. Bit more urgency please.
-
Cairney is decent for them.
Given they were turning down bids of £20m form him, you'd hope so.
-
This is absolutely woeful
-
Not impressed with Onomah so far.
-
Boooooooooooooooooooooo
urns
-
Fulham could have had a second there.
-
Bollocks
-
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
They have now.
2-0. Massive Johnstone error.
Today is one to forget.
-
Not impressed with Onomah so far.
He's honestly so poor. I don't get it.
-
What a fucking disaster
-
Oh dear
-
Fucking unbelievable
-
2-0
-
Suicidal. Fucking wankers.
-
Game over.
-
FFS
-
He’s just done a Petrov vs Derby

2 players out and we come out with a white flag?
-
Getting what we deserve today
-
Fukin ridiculous
-
What the fuck was that! I thought those days were over!
-
Enckleman
-
Strewth....
-
Awful stuff. Not often Johnstone does that but could be very costly.
-
There was no need to approach this game as negatively as we did. We played into their hands and as soon as they scored we’ve become desperate and let them in again. I can see them scoring again here.
-
Just have to scrub this one off.
Plenty of winnable matches next six weeks so no reason to panic although that will be the case in the Post match thread or Bruce out thread!
-
Way it's going we'll struggle to keep it down to 2.
-
We have fallen to bits.
-
WTF did I just see?
-
We’re going to take a battering here. They should have scored again.
-
We are all over the shop.
-
Could be three. Scratch that, SHOULD be. When we fall apart, we really fall apart.
-
Proper old fashioned battering this. We've been abysmal.
-
Johnstone keeps us in it, we've gone at the moment.
-
Very disappointing.
It’s almost like we had no belief that we could get a result here.
They’re Fulham, not Barcelona.
-
Grealish and Adomah have been sorely missed.
-
Bloody hell, how many chances do Fulham need. We survive. Just.
-
Get a grip, Villa
-
fuckin dire switched it off now
-
Where the fuck has the midfield gone?
-
The team sheet on page 1 showed the writing was on the wall with this one. On to Tuesday.
-
Johnstone keeps us in it, we've gone at the moment.
Or not.
-

Ultimately though we are not Real Madrid or PSG in terms of attacking options.
If we lose two first choice players who are both in great form, we don't have endless quality to replace them.
Green has played one game since August. Grabban has played one half since December, Davis hasn't scored a goal since I don't know when.
Thinking starting any of them would've just ripped Fulham apart is very wishful thinking I reckon.
In any case since we've put Grabban on and took off Jedinak Fulham have been running through our midfield no problem.
-
Bjarnason is shit. Really, really shit. Looks to pass back every single fucking time. Rubbish.
-
It's games like this make me fear what would happen if we did clinch promotion. As Andy says, this is not FC Barca, Fulham are on a good run but are they better than us? And yet we've just lay down for them. Imagine going up against City, Liverpool, even fecking Burnley
-
When you lot see that second goal on the highlights your jaws will drop. You will most probably laugh.
-
Difficult chance but Hogan has to score there
-
Has Grabban had a kick yet
-
Where the fuck has the midfield gone?
It was subsituted on the hour mark.
I did say beforehand Fulham had arguably the best central midfield in this division. Tom Cairney linked to many prem clubs, Sessegnon on the left and Norwood, McDonald and Johansen all solid players at this level.

Having watched all 77mins, I'm having a hard time believing Davis grabban and Green could have been any worse that Bjarnison, Onomah and Hogan. They've been absolutely shite.
-
If that had been Messi we would have scored. But the pass was for Hogan.
-
When you lot see that second goal on the highlights your jaws will drop. You will most probably laugh.
He really did just have to lob it roughly in the direction of the goal.
-
Has Grabban had a kick yet
He clearly isn't match fit.
But of course if he'd started he'd have scored a hat-trick I'm sure.
-
Onomah is shit.
Slow and ponderous
-
Well this is disappointing, but probably not wholly unexpected when we lose two of our absolutely vital attacking players.
-
Onomah is shit.
Slow and ponderous
I don't think he's shit, he's a young player who will have ups and downs.
-
This is the greatest frustration with Bruce. It’s a mental thing. Against any side he feels threatened by and particularly away from home he takes a very conservative, even negative approach. Today is complete proof of that. That even managing a side with 7 straight wins he didn’t have the confidence to take the game to Fulham. There was no need today. And extend this out if we are promoted. How do you think he’ll approach almost every game in the PL? Not with confidence and that will only lead to one thing.

Bjarnason and Hogan have generally played well since xmas. If you have a choice you're always going to plump for them over players who've hardly played a game in months especially against very decent opposition at this level.
Is every post going to be liked this with our first defeat in two months? Anyone with perspective out there? Thread calling Ads....
-
I like their right back, Ryan Fredericks.
-
to give him his due Hogan is good at spinning around a lot and running about very fast in sperts
-
We need a Stoke in reverse to make up for that fateful day
-
BTW how annoying is it Pulisball drawing endless games throughout his career and yet he can't get a point when we really need him to.
-
Play offs it is if we are lucky. We are not good enough to play with injuries to our best players, mind you most teams aren't.
-
Nothing won or lost today.
There are still 42 points to play for.
-
Massive that we win Tuesday and show this as a one off and not go on a regular Bruce run of 4+ without a win.
-

Hahaha. Hard to disagree with the spirit of this today. I like him, I like his attitude, but good lord.

OK, you make a fair point re. team selection based on post Xmas form, so I'll amend my post to say: Onomah, Bjarnison and Hogan have been absolutely shite.
-
Hogan you donkey!
-
What the fuck was that Hogan. Dire.
-
Play offs it is if we are lucky. We are not good enough to play with injuries to our best players, mind you most teams aren't.
You think we will finish 7th or lower?
Or do you mean going up via play offs?
-

? 3 points lost in fact!

He supports SHA.
-
This is our Leyton Orient moment, remember 74/75
-
What the fuck was that Hogan. Dire.
Haha. Exactly what I loudly shouted just now
-
Sorry now lads but Onomah is utter utter shite.
-
Barney is having a mare too
-
Pretty much no one has played well for us today.
-
Pretty much no one has played well for us today.
Yes it’s hard to pick out anyone
-
Onomah is shit.
Slow and ponderous
I fully blame him for the build-up of the first goal. No effort to close his man down whatsoever!
-
Completely outplayed second half.
-
Barney is having a mare too
Even though I'm watching, is he playing in the position that he did well in recently?
We've been poor, especially in midfield. Hourihane, Onomah and Birkir need to add some zip to their game. Otherwise it's like having three Westwood's.
-
We've boosted Fulham''s confidence that's for sure.
-
Willing to forgive this utter shite, provided we win and win well on Tuesday night. If Grealish and Adomah are even 70% fit then they need to play. We have next to no creativity without them.
-
Snodgrass has shown intent but fuck me there's not been much quality anywhere.
-
Yep, they'll be delighted with this win. We need to bounce back with a win v Preston or our confidence goes the other way.
-
oh well onwards to the next one
-
I'm expecting a third in stoppage time.
-
Tuanzebe has done quite well, but everybody else has either been average, or distinctly shite.
-
If Birkir is an attacking midfielder, I'm a Frenchman. He's looked far more comfortable and useful as a defensive midfielder.
-
I did not realise that lad Sessegnon is only 17. Fucking hell they've got a talent on their hands.
-
Tuanzebe has done quite well, but everybody else has either been average, or distinctly shite.
Agreed
-
Oh well. We're having fondue savoyarde tonight so that's nice.
-
Let's not under estimate the impact that losing our leading goalscorer and probably our most influential player of the last two months can have.
-
Utter rubbish, and all so predictable when that team sheet was read out.
-
If Birkir is an attacking midfielder, I'm a Frenchman. He's looked far more comfortable and useful as a defensive midfielder.
He was a loose cannon.
-
Sorry, why were Jack and Albert missing? I know they were injured but what was the background? Didn't see the BBC Football pre-match gubbins and nowhere else seems to be saying anything.
-

Hamstring for Albert - picked it up against Blues but saw the game out (and scored). Calf injury for Jack I believe,
