Title: Easah Suliman
Post by: brentastonb6 on January 10, 2018, 05:36:48 AM
Given our various central defensive partnership issues this season does anyone know why Suliman hasn’t even been in the squad ? He turns 20 on 26th of January so not a kid anymore, he’s captained England at under 16,17
and 19 level ( being the first player of Asian heritage to captain the English national team ) he was also part of England’s U19 European Championship winning team . He’s apparently 6’1” so would appear to have all the credentials .

The answer lies somewhere between the coaches and the CEO level.

You would think that CH is the one position that any kid at our club would excel at considering the expertise of the Manager in the same role  ::)

You're assuming that SB actually takes a few training session!

Sadly Bruce is not known for bringing players through.

Because he's only 20.

Because he's only 20.

So is Bree, who's a right back, but he played him as a centre back last week.  I honestly think he just doesn't trust kids in defensive roles and wants as much experience as possible back there, whereas he's a little more willing to give the young players a chance further forward.

He doesn't , apparently; but Calderwood (a former CB) does!

His shape (or out of shape) would suggest he doesnt

I'll never quite understand how a manager like Bruce doesn't take training sessions. I take it he just stands on the sidelines and watches?

Of course the reason Suliman doesn't get in the first team is that maybe He isn't good enough to be picked.  I can't say I have ever been impressed by him.  Not strong enough in my opinion.  Did really poorly on loan last season at Cheltenham was it ?
Kevin Toner was far more impressive playing for the U18s but He hasn't made the transition to senior football.  Suliman is quite a nice footballer so He might get stronger as He grows but I will be surprised.

Agree with one or two others needs to be good enough to play at the level. Just because someone is young does not autqualifes them

When he was on loan at Cheltenham Town, they sent him back early as they didn’t think he was physically ready for the rigours of lower league football. I’m guessing he has probably filled out a bit since then.

Except that 20 is nothing for a central defender, you really don't see many at that age do you?

Full back potentially different, and attacking players are different too.

Ah now, don't be like that, he was a kid.

He may simply be like John Curtis who was at Man U in the 90s. Captain of England schoolboys i think at several levels and a Midlands boy- mate of mine who is a teacher in Dudley was in with the Schools Football Association at the time and they raved abut him as the new Bobby Moore. Man U youth coaches were the same.

He played a few senior games, was not up to scratch, moved to Blackburn i think and then drifted.

I remember as a kid watching a few England schoolboy games at Wembley as they were among the very select bands of live games on TV. A selection of players looked very promising in their teens but most never really made it.

Don't forget Barry, Scimeca, and Ehiogu haven't done too badly coming through.

How is Ricky doing these days? Didn't his folks own an Italian restaurant in Leamington Spa? His name popped into my head watching the League of Gentlemen special over Christmas when they were all imploring the maitre'd Luigi to "do something".

Yes that is simply the reason.

Who was that lad we played in the early rounds of the carling cup, he'd have more chance of playing.

I think you must mean Mitch Clark, he is a Centre Back normally but sometimes plays Right Back in the U23s.  He made his debut at Left Back and had an outstanding game.  I have watched the youth team for many years and in my opinion Clark is a far superior player and is two years younger as well.
Clark and Finnerty were a good combination and we have a couple of 17 year olds currently in the youth team, Revan and Patterson, who could do well.
I can't say I have ever been very impressed with Suliman and although I haven't seen much of Bedeau I'm not too impressed by him either.

Gareth Barry joined Villa as a YTS after being at Brighton as a Schoolboy.  So He did come through our youth system.
We sign about 15 1st year YTS players every season and usually they consist of about 6 of our U16s and the rest are players from other parts of the country or even the World.  Barry decided to join Villa and Brighton got compensation for him spending 6 years as a schoolboy at the club.  Just as Daniel Crowley decided to take Arsenal's offer and Issy Brown left Albion for Chelsea.

Yes that's the one Larry. I thought we had a Clark playing against Wigan but couldn't remember his name.

Given he was picked ahead of Suliman he's more likely to figure if we have an injury crisis at CB before the season is out.

Reports from Portugal that he's signing for Vitoria Guimaraes.
