FA Cup Third round
Sat 6 Jan, 15:00
Villa Park
-
2-0 win
-
Steer
RDL
Mad Tom
Terry
Bree
Airport
Doyle-Hayes
Bjarney
Andre
Jack
The Russian
Hogan out injured
Might be a bit too attacking for Bruce, so expect to see Whelan start
-
Steer
Taylor
Terry
Elphick
RDL
Whelan
Green
O'Hare
Lansbury
Murphy
Davis
-
I actually think it boosts morale a good cup run. Think we will beat the posh and then get a tricky one 4th round and go out.
-
Are Airport and Murphy new signings ?
-
Are Airport and Murphy new signings ?
O'Hare is airport and Murphy is the Ivan.
-
Hoping we go;
Steer
Bree Suliman Terry Taylor
Doyle-Hayes Bjarnasson
O’Hare Grealish Green
Hogan
Think I read that Peterboro had sold 4200 this morning.
3-2 to Villa
-
Charlie's first game so we will either pop a cricket score on them or an inglorious defeat.
-
Steer
Taylor
Terry
Elphick
RDL
Whelan
Green
O'Hare
Lansbury
Murphy
Davis
Agree with this. Although MAYBE just give Hogan the start again so he gets a nice solid run of games.
-
I had deduced that Airport was Gabby. Idle and wild.
-
2-0 O'Hare and RHM.
-
I would definitely start Grealish and Hogan on Saturday.
-
2-0 Home win. Didier Agathe & Erik Bakke with the goals
-
Steer
Taylor
Terry
Elphick
RDL
Whelan
Green
O'Hare
Lansbury
Murphy
Davis
As mentioned above, I think there would be a case for starting Hogan to allow him to hopefully build on his new found confidence. The rest of the team looks good though and l would stick with the 4-1-4-1 formation with the only other change being Bjarnason partnering Lansbury in midfield.
-

Nice bit of historical knowledge there Mr Green. However, it is rumoured that you were present at Kitty Hawk :)
-
We will win.
RHM to get at least one of the goals.
We won't keep a clean sheet.
Barry Fry will self combust.
3-1 Villa.
-
Don´t know what the attendance will be on Saturday but one things for sure, it won´t begin to approach the 64,531 who ( literally !) squashed into Villa Park in Feb 1961. In addition, huge number of t Posh fans were locked out after arriving late because of traffic problems. In fact, it was reckoned , dubiously, I have to add, that nearly 10,000 were actually left outside.
What a a day !, what a game !, both teams were great and the atmosphere was electric, the crowd was so compacted it moved and swayed as one unit, quite scary , in retrospect but thrilling at the time...........Aye, they don´t ave games like that anymore... more´s the pity!. In the end, of course, Villa won 2-1, with McParland getting both goals..........................Godzvilla!

is Green fit then ?
Not Brian I mean Andre

Bruce said in Monday's post match interview on WM that Green would be playing on Saturday.

If that's the case, I'll go for a Green double & Villa to hand out a right dicking.
-
I'm going for a 2-0 Villa win like to see a few goals but I'm not greedy.
-
Johnstone
De laet, Elphick Terry Taylor
Whelan
Lansbury Bjorn
O'Hare Green
Hogan
Would play Johnstone so he is cup tied, but that aint going to happen so Steer. Would give Hogan and Elphick starts to continue to boost their confidence
-
3-1
Hogan hat trick

Hogan

Agree with all of that.
-
I would definitely start Grealish and Hogan on Saturday.
Agree, neither need rest they’ve hardly played this season so more time on pitch together to build a relationship as Jack is the one who has the ability and vision to see Hogans runs
-
I expect us to win. What I am more interested in even with a number of different players in the line up is the attitude and attacking intent. Play with the same desire to get forward, create chances and take shots is a good measure of how we are going to approach things after Bristol City and hopefully the balance of the season.
-
For me i would like to see
Steer
Bree, Suliman, Terry, De Laet
Whelan
Green, Lansbury, Thor, O'Hare
RHM

This is the thing wit SB. Too often after a great performance we seem to always revert to the dross we’ve become accustomed to. Approach, effort and style always seem to fall short. There should be no excuse for anything other than a win against Peterborough regardless of the side he puts out. Grealish should play if only to show the squad our style, approach and effort is based around him from now on.

Remember it well. 2 of the lodgers in our house took me down to VP that night and we didn't get in ! I always thought that the attendance was around 70K ?

3-0 to the Villa.
-
8-0

There’s no need to make massive changes and having Grealish play the same role again creates the continuity that we need to take forward with us. I also hope Hogan plays for the same reason. There should be no more than 4 or 5 changes for this. Also hopefully Terry back in.

To be honest, so did I, although it has to be said the stated ´Official Attendance´( 64,531 ) probably did´nt include those who sneaked by various methods.Remember, there was ´allegedly´another 10,00 outside, which, when you think about it, was a quite staggering number. Health & Safety etc was not a big deal in those days and the ´just pack em in´mentality often prevailed. Interesting to note that there was actually 70,000 inside Villa Park for the 1948 the Cup Semi Final ( Spurs vs Blackpool ) . So , the ground was capable of holding that number................Godzvilla!

I'd be interested to see Terry play with Elphick, as if Chester got injured we may well see that happen.
Would definitely keep Hogan and Grealish in the team, they are playing their way into form so I wouldn't rest them
I would be tempted to give Green, De Laet, and RHM a go though.
-
Villa win, please start Hogan and let his rehabilitation continue. UTV
-
I'd give Johnstone, Chester, Jedi, Snodgrass, Albert the afternoon off. Play RHM with Hogan give Bree a run out too.
-
Fucking hell. I have just discovered that the useless Geordie fucker Taylor plays in their defence. I am far more confident of a cricket score now.
-
I have been in VP with 70,000 in it and that Peterborough game was more than 64,000. Hundreds were climbing up the back wall of the Holte and thousands over the turnstiles. I never felt in danger but I would never allow my grandchildren to do the things I did as a boy.
4-0 and Man U in the next round.
-
I wonder if Brian and Godzvilla crossed paths before in a previous life. I'd like to think so.
-
I would like to think so too.
-
Fucking hell. I have just discovered that the useless Geordie fucker Taylor plays in their defence. I am far more confident of a cricket score now.
He might punch one off the line and theatrically go down holding his face.
-
Hogan out - Twisted ankle
-
FFS. Just as he had started to look vaguely decent.
-
Green and Terry to start. Hopefully RHM to start now Hogans out.
-
Saw him limping and giving Flint a right round of fucks just before he went off on New Years Day.
-
Very disappointing about Hogan. He really needs some momentum.
-
Green and Terry to start. Hopefully RHM to start now Hogans out.
TBH I would love to see RHM come in the team and be a real hit. Might be another stroke of luck for Bruce!
-
Steer, Bree, Elphick, Chester, Taylor, Whelan, Lansbury, Green, O Hare, Grealish, Hogan.
If Lansbury is injured play Onomah and bring Terry on at half time for Chester.
-
If Hogan is out play Murphy.
-
I’d play both kids in a two man attack.
-
Green and Terry to start. Hopefully RHM to start now Hogans out.
TBH I would love to see RHM come in the team and be a real hit. Might be another stroke of luck for Bruce!
Why would a kid coming in and doing well be a 'stroke of luck'?
-
Hogan out - Twisted ankle
Hope it's not a major problem.
-

Why would a kid coming in and doing well be a 'stroke of luck'?
Because apparently whenever Bruce selects a side that wins it's pretty much always down to luck and as the much shitter players he would have picked are injured. Or something like that.
-
I’m going for the first time since 2015 when we hammered Sunderland in a 2-2 draw. Any new chants, do they still sell Balti pies and do the ball boys run to the centre circle and wave at the fans?
-
Why would a kid coming in and doing well be a 'stroke of luck'?
Because the only way he would ever put him in is if there are injuries to non performing older players. Lets face it if Gabby was fit RHM would not be in contention.
-
You never know - this cup competition, rightly or wrongly, is far from our priority right now. RHM might be exactly what Steve Bruce would have wanted for this game.
-
I’d play both kids in a two man attack.
Specifically, RHM and Davis would be great to see together.
-
Green and Terry to start.
Green would be frigging useless at centreback ...
-
I see every competitive fixture as a priority and most certainly the FA cup.
-
Might have been asked before but have Audrey and Davis played together much for the Reserves/Youths?
-
Hard one to predict as I don't know much about Peterborough. But we're in the envious position of having a more than capable "second string" for the level we're currently playing at. They will want to cause a big FA Cup upset. Should be a good atmosphere as they have sold around 4,000 tickets but I'm going for a hard fought 2-1 win for the villa boys. Some Villa fans are saying that an early exit would let us concentrate on the promotion push. I say "Bollocks to that" The FA Cup is still the best domestic cup competition on the planet. Let's go for it Villa and see where it takes us.
-
we didn't take the last cup outing particularly seriously and were spanked by Villaboro. Personally I'd like us to field our strongest 11.
-
I just want to see the squad depth get a shot at playing. Hogan aside I would like a completely new starting 11. Really, we need to see more of the squad. We will almost certainly need them in the back half of the league season which is the overwhelming priority. Lets see what they can do. Win or lose then we have learnt something about them which can inform our january transfers.
-
If Paul Lambert was still boss I'd gamble serious money that we'd be knocked out tomorrow. Think tomorrow will be different matter though. 2-1 and not without a few scares too.
-
Might have been asked before but have Audrey and Davis played together much for the Reserves/Youths?
Do you mean Audie? I'm getting confused with this Murphy shit. Brian is my favourite Murphy if I'm honest.
-
I think he meant Katherine.
-
I voted that we would lose the last two games so I'm hoping doing the same will enable us to keep winning or at least playing in the same manner. Fingers crossed.
-
It's a good opportunity to give the likes of Chester and possibly Adomah a chance to sit this one out. I'll go 3-1. Terry, Bjarnasson and Onomah with ours.
-
I think he meant Katherine.
could be Aud or Kath.
Could also be Eddie or Brian. Or Cillian.
-
If anyone wants a free print at home ticket for the Holte shout up.

Complete sense.
-
3-1 Villa and a continued refreeshing approach to the game
-

Or for those of us that were teenagers in the early 80s, Dee :)
-
Both teams will be more focused on the league (Peterborough are on the play-off hunt in League One), but its a good chance to give our second string a run out and I am always up for a decent Cup-run. Have a feeling it might be a close game. Will go 2-1 to Villa. Hogan to get another goal for, and Davis if he plays.
-
However, he must be referred to as either Audrey or The Russian. That’s Murphy’s Law
-
Hogans injured
