If Bruce carry’s on trying to flog a dead horse with the way he has been setting us up then a defeat or at best a draw.

Ground number 34 for me. And a good one at that, by all accounts.

Dull 0-0 draw.

I'm gonna be a party pooper, but SB usually goes defensive against teams in form, he needs to freshen things up a bit.  A loss by the odd goal.

Elphick likely to play which means one goal against at least.  I expected us to lose at Leeds but obviously we did ok  there in the end, Derby are a better side so I think we'll lose this one as Adomah isn't going to score in every game and no one else's looks likely.

Think we're playing them at the wrong time. Their really clicking, and we starting to look a bit iffy.  A win would be great and if this game was later in the season that would be an ideal result, as it is a draw would be a solid result.  But will go 2-0 to them.

If the old Aston Villa mentality shows up then a straight loss. Weimann to score, obviously.

If new Aston Villa show up then I think we can win.

I will go with my heart and hope that we have finally got rid of that loser mentality at the club.

1-2 to the good guys. Hogan and Hourihane.

Going for a draw. Depends what Villa turns up i guess - the shitty take no risks standard performance or the lesser seen attacking variety that has occasionally been glimpsed at select locations since Bruce took over.

A draw would be a good result here but I think it could be a game where our injury/ negativity chickens come home to roost.

A bad defeat a possibility. Cue furore.

Jedinak in line to play. Lansbury, Hutton and Samba unlikely to be fit. Terry two weeks away from his return.
You would hope Bruce would look at the defence and think 'stuff it, let's go on the attack'.
Title: Re: Derby County v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: wittonwarrior on December 15, 2017, 10:29:57 AM
Take a draw now, really tough game (that's obvious I suppose), depends on the way Bruce sets up.

We are unlikely to get a get out of jail card  as we got at Leeds.  If we start the same way then we could be two or three down at half time with no way back.

Less respect for the opposition and have a go.

The injuries are mounting up.  I'd take a point now.  I imagine the team will be along the lines of

                       Johnstone

Elmohammady  Jedinak  Chester  Taylor

                         Whelan

Snodgrass   Onomah   Hourihane  Albert

                           Davis

Which isn't bad on paper but not many other threats in the squad to bring on if things don't go to plan.  Maybe Grealish for Onomah?

I think Dave P's team looks ok with Steer RDL Elphick Thor O'Hare Grealish and Hogan as adequate subs

We do need the walking wounded back soon though, otherwise unless we get some new faces in come January we will fall out the play offs I reckon

I'm going for a lucky hoofball draw...

                       Johnstone

Elmo      Jedinak    Chester       Taylor
Snodgrass Hourihane Whelan Adomah

Onomah (though I'd rather he start Grealish)
                           Davis

Lots of injuries for this one - Samba, Hutton & Lansbury out. OI hope Jedinak can fill in a CB or its Elphick  :o

Id love us to get something out of this but think it maybe our 5th defeat this season?

I fancy us to beat them.

Elmo, Jedinak and Grealish to come in for me, with Onomah deeper. Hardly weakened are we with that lot.

Hogan and Gabby available as options. Theyre without their best player, I don't rate their front four and feel Jedinak will keep Martin under wraps. Key will be to suffocate their central two, particularly fat Tom. Onomah, Adomah and Snoddy doing a job centrally and on their full backs to isolate their front four and make them go long. Jedinak will eat everything up all day long in the air.

Key is to press, press, press. With better quality all over, we're not soft touches any more away from home and hooefully a flea in our ears and a rocket up the arse following last weeks lethergy.

And a massive big up to Derby County for being the first club to say we aren't allowed to sell outside the away end. That's the first club in 29 years. Apparently we'd be competition for the programme. I don't know whether to feel flattered or amused but it does show how Villa's attitude to supporters of all clubs is still light years ahead of just about every other club.

Grealish has to start in the number 10 role and the other changes will be expected. Personally I would consider Hogan up top depending on Davis fitness. If you have the likes of Grealish, Snodgrass and Hourihane, surely they can pick out passé for the runs Hogan makes, but there again we know that is not the managers preferred choice of football sometimes. I just hope he doesn't go defensive then start playing when 1-0 down

Exactly, he plays to win and they dug in as well tonight. I prefer that to lets get a draw and if we go behind, lets go for it. Happened in a few games this season. Grealish has to start and personally I would love to see O'Hare in as well.

I'm sure that Jack won't start. Bruce has had opportunities to use him and hasn't. I think he has promised to play Onomah as part of the loan deal.

If this carries on Jack will have to .move on to develop. I really want him to remain one of ours.

Three points would be fantastic but i'd settle for the draw. I can see him giving Davis a rest today, he needs it. I'll go 1-1. Snodgrass with ours.
Title: Re: Derby County v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread

Whilst a draw here would usually be ok, it would now mean 3 games without a win and falling further off the pace with more tough fixtures coming up.

Why not go two up front with Davis and Hogan up front and give Derby something to think about. Onomah has been poor lately and the team needs freshening up.

Where does their authority extend to?  Are you OK on a public path road a 100 yards from the ground, or do you need some sort of licence from the council?

You don't need licencing but they own the land round the ground and it's pointless selling further away.

I doubt they own that much as they’re now penned in on all sides by various retail and business sites. I doubt they could move you if you were stood outside Subway over the road.

Got to refresh this team after looking lost last week. Grealish must start and to take the pressure off the weakened defence use the squad and press them from the start. Hogan and Davis up top and fresh legs after 60 mins to keep the intensity up. 1-2 Hogan-Jedinak
