If they were on the front foot, but made mistakes because they are not quite on the same wavelength, that would be one thing. But the lack of an ideas or urgency seems inexcusable. Other teams make changes and still manage to play coherently, which seems to have been beyond villa except for norwich and the first half against hull.

I just have him in my mind as a right back playing out of position.Bit like De La Cruz used to be. Dosen't seem to have played there much but to me it's just a boring and safe selection in the final third as we know he'll track back.

He's being played out of position. He doesn't have the legs to play anywhere else other than as a defensive midfielder. Stick him there and he's fine. Ask him to run around too much and he looks lost.
My only hope is that Brentford feel so comfortable Smith doesn't feel the need to change things around as Bodger can never react to managers changing tactics.

That really was too bad. I've tried to be patient with Bruce but I just can not see how a squad with this experience & quality can be so utterly dire and devoid of ideas. They only fight in the last few seconds, as if they suddenly realise how shit they have been. The manager has to inspire and motivate the players, and that is so OBVIOUSLY not happening.
