Now that the last tickets are on sale I can add up the cost of away league games this season.
(any slight discrepancies are due to rounding up or down)
Season Age Total cost £ No of games Av per ticket £
2016-17 65 plus 467.50 23 20.33
“ Under 65 635.50 23 27.63
2015-16 65 plus 426.00 19 22.42
“ Under 65 649.00 19 34.16
In the Premier League with £20’s Plenty (£15 concessions) the cost for an under 65 for the league season would be £380 for 19 games; over 65 would be £182.50.
Maximum £20 in the Championship would come to £460 for under 65 and at £15 a total of £345 for over 65.

The table that I prepared did not translate to the site so I have listed the costs in an easier form. Hopefully this works better.
2015-16 Premier League 19 games
total cost under 65's £649
average per game £34.16
" 65 plus £426
average per game £22.42
2016-17 Championship 23 games
total cost under 65's £635.50
average £27.63
" 65 plus £467.50
average £20.33

Let's hope the Championship follows the lead of the Prem and introduces a £30 cap. Or even £20!!
-
I shudder to think like a lot of people just how much I spend on this. Worth it probably not - Do I enjoy it apart from the 90 minutes yes.
-
I worked out my mileage the other day, from London.
4 homes, 11 aways. 3,386 miles. I don't even want to think how much has gone into Branson's coffers getting me there.
-
After the Brighton game passes, ill have spent just shy of eight grand on flights, hotels and match tickets on following Villa this season, scary stuff. Hope the wife doesn't read this lol. Thats not taking in to account beer tokens and spending money!
-
On top of the money is the actual amount of time consumed from your life. Come the end of the season I will have done thirty plus games. Because I have to travel the triangle of my house, my son's house, the game and back the same way, I calculate a season of following Villa costs me a month and a half of my life. Not complaining, not boasting, just totting it up.
-
Now that is scary going you 3 I have followed villa for 40 odd years home and away again I am far from alone. Some of the people and friendships alone are worth a million dollars may be not pounds.
-
A question to some die hard fans here, is there anything that would stop you going?
For me if they moved from Villa Park, that would be it.
-
I must admit, I stopped adding up as it was frightening me... We are in the away scheme so.
3 x away for each game (one concession)
3 season tickets
Travel, food etc for the 3 of us. As I work nights, days holiday for away midweek games...
Really enjoyed the season on the whole and a fantastic opportunity to actually talk to my son rather then the occasional grunt I get from the 15 year old normally.
We will do the same next season and looking forward to a Germany trip for pre-season..... it must be an addiction

When I am sitting here sober as a judge I call it stupidity, however its worse additive certainly than anything else in my life.

I could live with relocation from Villa Park if they were able to convince me it was absolutely necessary to our future, and it wasn't too far. It would have to be in Birmingham.
I think the only things that would stop me going is being unable to attend due to incapacity or the the prices going up to a level that I genuinely can't afford.
-
I have survived having to sit for games, the renaming of the Witton Stand, the renaming of the Witton End, the wanton destruction of the iconic Trinity, the sale of the Serpentine, the horrendous deafening childishness of the PA system, the loss of the round badge, the abandonment of the club motto, the best fanzine in the world being able to be pocketed and caressed only on high days and holidays like today. All of that and Messrs Ellis, Lerner, O'Neill, McLeish, Lambert, Sherwood, Black and RDM. Survive all that and you can survive anything.
-
At least you have seen the return of the gas lamp Brian.

Don't hold your breath mate! It really annoys me when the media focus on the price cap for the PL, whilst completely ignoring us Championship fans who have to pay even more.
-
Ah, the gas lamp. Pity it had to be repro. I bet the original the founding fathers met beneath is kicking around a council depot somewhere.
-
Keep your eye out at Clifford Cross.
-
Better chance at the huge architectural salvage yard behind the Macclesfield Town ground. A treasure trove. Or was when I last went there. Probably retail park sheds now.
-
I reckon I've gone to about 50% of games over the last 30 odd yrs , Id hate to think how much its cost me let alone those that have been too many many more games than myself .
