....that only cares about the Villa? I mean that I literally can't stir up any interest in any other team than the Villa. Even the recent Barcelona walking on water performance couldn't get me going.
With the upcoming international break upon us, I couldn't give a monkey's other than a cheeky little accumulator I have placed.
Do others feel as disassociated with the sport as I do, or are you somebody that will watch anything?

I'm feeling increasingly like that. Once I've watched Villa play, I have little interest in watching any other games that weekend. I will watch our goals again on Channel 5, but then only watch bits here and there. Can't remember the last time I sat down and watched a game that didn't involve us or watched the whole of Match of the Day.
-
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to even care about the Villa these days. It's part defence mechanism to numb myself to the misery they cause, and part a declining interest in football generally.
Other than the European Championships, and MOTD, I haven't even watched much football on telly over the last couple of seasons - I can't even be bothered to watch the big Premier League/Champions League games even though I could easily access them for free.
-
I've been like that or years.
-
As a kid I would watch any and every televised game - although they were much rarer then. Now I can barely be bothered to watch any, even if Villa are on. As for Barcelona's "walking on water performance" Suarez and Neymar were not so much walking on it as diving in. The fact they got away with it and many people dismiss it and still rave about the performance is one of the many reasons I can barely be bothered to watch any more.
-
I've watched less football on tv this season as I've been at every Villa game, but I do still enjoy good football as well - especially the Champions League.
-
Terrible, terrible thread title. Most annoying. But yes, I am like you. I am only bothered about us.
-
I do find it hard to watch football as a neutral and therefore watch relatively little. Because of Villa I only watch Villa games - I can't watch Championship and have absolutely no interest in The Premier League, Championsd League or anything else. Every now and then I'll fancy watching a bit of football and I'll give a passing game a minute or two to reel me in, otherwise I won't bother. I do watch England games - all of them - also. However, it would be unthinkable for me to miss a Villa game but i could miss an England game.
-
I am a Villa fan, not a football fan.
-
Not alone there, I'm exactly the same. I very rarely watch any football anymore or read up on other stories. That's why any new signing or potential ITK means absolutely nothing to me as I have no bloody idea who they are.
I've been like this for years.
-
During the last 6 years or so I have found that should we win I treat football as I always have, watch the highlights of other games, take an interest in the general goings on.
However, should we lose, as has so often been the case, I practically turn my back on the game. Every Sunday became a ritual of deleting MOTD without watching a second. I have done that a few times this season (along with that CH5 programme). I could find no joy at all in any other games, and the sight of other fans celebrating was just too much. I am hoping this will lift as a result of an extended period of "not being as shit".
We went on the Villa Park tour on Sunday, whilst stood at pitch side, the enemy remarked that it might be nice to attend tours elsewhere such as Wembley or Barcelona. "No thanks" I replied, when she enquired why not I gave her the old Acker "92 league clubs etc" which she has heard so many times before. She just rolled her eyes and made her way back up the tunnel.
-
I only watch us and have zero interest in any other football, i look at the table but cant be arsed even looking at the other championship results
-
I love the Villa big part of my life always has been and always will be. i do like Rangers but no where near the Villa
-
I'm the same. Couldn't tell you the last non villa game i watched. Probable one in the Euros.
-
I was at Sutton Town a couple of weeks ago, both the Villa and Sutton were 1 goal up with not long to go and I thought to myself "I'd be more gutted if Sutton let a goal in now than if Villa did".
But my antipathy for the Villa stretches back far longer than that, not sure if it's the succession of crap performance after crap performance, the disassociation I felt from our crop of players all these years, the disassociation I feel from top level football in general or the growing up having kids thing but it's there and I doubt I will ever get it back.
I've been saying for ages football in this country will break apart massively at some point but I'm really not sure it will anymore. It's just so so globally huge that it would take something almighty to cause it to crash. Fair play to the people in charge, they've achieved exactly what they set out to do and have proved their business model to be very fruitful indeed.

I pretty much only follow Villa and England. I took the decision last summer to only watch the games Villa take seriously and so missed both cup ties. Additionally though for the first time ever I took a holiday in the season and missed Newcastle away. Relegation has made me fickle😉.
I have no desire to see any other football and will always watch, say, a cricket game on Sky rather than football. In fact I quite enjoyed the American footy play offs in Jan over the endless rounds of 'Super Duper Sunday' bore fest. Mmmm who thinks Chelsea and Man City won't be 1st and 2nd and one of them will win the cup as well. Also I would have to replace too many tellys if I watch Liverpool. That 30 seconds of dead air while we watch the flags go up on the Kop and 'You'll never work again' enrages me.
Also following us this season has been great, why watch anything else?
-
I am less bothered about other games than I used to be, although I was still happily watching Oxford Utd Vs Bolton last night (and it was a good game).
-
I sometimes go and watch Mainz 05 play, but that's really about me getting out of the house and meeting friends (and beer) I've literally no interest in the Premiership (League, whatever) or the Champions League and I can't see the games from the Championship, so no: you're not the only one! And neither am I... I'm quite releaved!
-
Modern Villa Killed Football.
-
I am a Villa fan, not a football fan.
Is the correct answer.
I increasingly find the wankfest over PL games on the TV/wireless infuriating/hilarious...who gives a flying f**k about Chelsea v Man Utd except Chelsea/Man Utd fans? Why do the football media assume we are all besotted with contracts at Man City, Arsenal's manager or Harry Kane's knee?
I really couldn't give a shit...although I do enjoy it a tad when The Scum get beaten.
UTV!
-
Cant stand International football. My only care is AVFC. Sometimes catch match of the day, maybe be in a pub and watch a bit of the game. Do not have Sky, got BT but never really watch the games on that.
Hate International breaks, I want my Villa back!!
-
I like many more only care about AVFC it's what keeps me going through bad times and good I love it when I go to the games it's the best feeling in the world when we win I'm not really bothered about any other teams it don't excite me watching other games like it does the Villa I've felt like this for years.
-
I only have an interest in the Villa.
I will however watch most football matches either on TV or my local park.
I was very annoyed one day when the train I was on got going after being stuck for about half an hour as I was enjoying watching a match on a local pitch that was near the train line. I really wanted to know the result as both teams had scored a couple of great goals.
-
I don't go out of my way to watch games unless I'm in the pub and there's one on or there's nothing else to watch on the tellybox.
-
I like watching other games occasionally, only because I hope for an upset. As soon as the upset is off the cards, then I most likely switch off.
-
Haven't had Sky for yonks, still don't miss watching other games at all. Apart from Euros and World Cup, I very rarely bother watching a game that isn't Villa, Bromsgrove or England.
-
Couldn't care less about any other team, match etc. I'm as one eyed as many of you on here. I'm tempted to ask the club for a 50% reduction on my season ticket price, as I only come to watch one team. The other mob just get in the way.
-
All of football (apart from Villa) to me now is the sound of Arsenal fans having rectal prolapses because they might not make the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
-
Probably won't bother with game tonight but will watch on Sunday because it's a qualifier. Don't have Sky or BT, watched bits of FA Cup games on Beeb but not one all the way through, don't watch MOTD, only watch C5 highlights if we win. I do however retain an obsession with the stats side of the game and spend a lot of time studying tables etc. after the weekend's games. I also do the same for other sports without hardly watching any of the games. Maybe it's just me.
-

I'm pretty much the same.
I hate WBA's fans, and I can't stand the Blues when we play them, but as for Barca, and the other lot - meh.
-
Haven't watched that much prem football this season.
Combination of not having Sky, not going down the pub as much for the big games and finding it a bit more boring as we're not in it so the games don't have as much meaning at the top (or at the bottom in the last 5 years).
That said I have found this season one of the most boring in years.
It's a strange one as we've been winning more regularly than for a long while but how memorable have most of the wins been?
Probably doesn't help we've been so far adrift of the top 6 for the majority of the season so the wins haven't really meant a huge amount.
Even during our dismal premier league recent seasons there's still been some very good results that I can still recall now and fondly look back at....beating Arsenal on the first day in August 2013 3-1, beating Chelsea who were top 1-0 at VP later on in the season (game where Mourinho and two of his players were sent off), last minute Benteke penalty when we beat West Brom 2-1 in 2015 to start the climb to saferty...
I'm afraid I can't quite get worked up beating Burton 2-1 or Blackburn 2-1. Went to both of those games, enjoyed winning them....but had already forgot many details of those games about 48 hours later. Even now asking me who scored the first in the Burton game and I'd have to google it in all honesty.
Hopefully next season will be different, lets have some memorable games....2-0 down in the first half to a local rival and then winning it 3-2 in the last minute (Coventry 2001) y'know like the good old days....
-
I only keep sky for Golf, NFL and when we are on
I record MOTD and that awful Channel 5 crap but only ever whizz through all the chatting shit and watch the games / goals only (and Brucey interview) - I have never needed a pundit to tell me if it was a good goal or bad defensive mistake
As for the modern football fan - I hear at work people who (quite seriously) have a Premiership team, a Spanish team, MLS team and follow XYZ when Chumps league is on. They are young un but it shows the strength of Murdochs marketsing
-
Depends why they have an interest in teams in other countries. Plenty of Villa fans may well have a soft spot for Portland and Bilbao as examples.
-
Much the same, am only interested in Villa matches apart from some England matches which these days has no villa contingent on the pitch. As for Walking on water I know of only one footballer to achieve this Sir Brian Little
-
I haven't watched MOTD for years but still have SKY for the football which I don't really watch either. It tends to be on in the background as I prepare Sunday dinner with the Mother in Law watching Super Sunday and hoping whoever in the top 4 is playing is losing to that other team. I hate watching us on TV as it alters my personality to Jekyll & Hyde levels. I am definitely getting rid after this season finishes. So, that leaves me with only watching the Villa live which is how I started.
-
The issues at Villa have made me care a lot less about football in general. That and living in Canada and getting into other sports. But my tolerance for watching England and now any PL football is at an all time low. And I barely pay attention to European football either outside the odd highlight.
-
I watch other English teams in European competition, but only because I want them to fail.
I consume way less sports media than I used to.
Being shit for several years has massively reduce the amount of football I watch or read about. I just don't want to see any more of it.
-
I must be the saddest loser on here as I watch most the premier league sky and bt games. Nothing better to me than chilling out watching super sunday.
I watch soccer Saturday too checking in my bets.
Time to re - assess my life I think.
-
I gave up on enjoying the game a long time ago.
-
I'm only interested in Villa and always have been. If Ingerland were playing and the opposition had more Villa players I'd support them.
-
looks like i'm the only one then
i love football and support Villa
i could watch any match anywhere anytime, when i used to walk the dog over the fields if there was even some local sunday football being played i would be drawn to watch it for a bit,
football being played at a high level of technical abilty and skill is one the greatest things in the world for me to see
must be a right sado
-
Villa is all consuming for me, like others I record MOTD , Championship and Goal Rush but only watch if we've won or got a hard earned point but even then only flick through, I do have a soft spot for Glasgow Rangers and a kind of respect for Everton but its all about Villa and any kind of win still gives me great Joy.
-

Nope, I'll watch just about any game, anywhere. I feign indifference in front of gloryhunting fans of big clubs but I still watch their games.
-
Love and watch Villa with a passion, occasionally watch my nephew play football- that's it!!
Don't care for any other team. Don't watch sky, bt or motd. Will tape c5 football if Villa get a result and then fast forward to the game. Don't listen to talksh-te or any radio phone in. Don't read about any football in the papers or online. I've fallen out of love with the game in general. My own children support Villa for me, but they too are lost to the game. 10 years ago I could never have imagined distancing myself from the game as I have done. I just don't like the way football has gone. Always Villa though cause it's in my blood! Glad of Villa forums to keep me up to speed.
-
I am a Villa fan, not a football fan.
Absolutely this, for me.
I have zero interest in any other football club, the leagues or tournaments they play in. Even England: I used to take each game so seriously, now I couldn't tell you if they were playing.
-
Last 7-8 years or so yes, Villa only.
-
this thread has surprised me somewhat
there must be 90% + on here who don't even like football just follow Villa (I suppose there is some irony in that)
-
I sometimes watch Fleetwood and Preston North End, and keep an eye on the Norwich results (my grandmother was a big Norwich fan). I also like seeing Blues lose.
I don't think I've watched any Prem games since Villa left it, and have no interest in the European matches if we are not involved. Definitely very Partizan, and a Villa fan rather than a football fan though.
-
VILLA.
-
I’ve got a season ticket for a local Dutch 2nd Division team here (SC Telstar), who I’ve been following for years and watch all their home games. I get over when I can to watch Villa and still listen to our games when I’m not in Brum. Other than that I barely watch any football at all and have not watched a single Premier League game on the telly all season.
-
I love watching football. All sorts. Needless to say the games I've enjoyed least, for what seems like forever (briefly Tim), are ours over the last 5 or 6 years.
-
With no effort whatsoever, I'm now so removed from non-Villa football that I didn't know until half an hour ago that England were due to play Germany, let alone that the game has been and gone. I looked at the squad and realised I didn't know half the players. I don't normally revel in ignorance but...

I was exactly the same last night, had no idea that match was happening.

Watch a bit of non league and that's it apart from villa.

Me too, and since relegation I cancelled sky and just have no interest in the prem (for now!) Though I do like to keep an eye on Stourbridge Town and pop and see them occasionally.
-
So why is it nearly all of us no longer care about the sport at the highest levels?
-

Like.

Me too.
Especially as we've been everything this is wrong about Football in the last 7 years, a proper car crash club playing terrible football on a consistent basis.
-
Reading the sentiments on this thread I suspect football has a developing problem. I've long thought that something would happen or change to cause the football business to fail.
It's the money innit?
I gather the FA still want to stage some important PL fixtures in the Far East. That could be the death knell. A piss take too far. I'm so disconnected from football now. A lot of it irritates me: Toure having a hissy fit because his club didn't send him a birthday card, never mind the 200 grand plus they send him every week. The latest fashion of slapping the turf when they throw themselves down to demonstrate the unbearable agonies they suffer for their art and money.
I used to be so enthused about the Villa and football, back in the 70's I was daft enough to hitch hike from Brum to Bilbao for a pre-season friendly. That's all gone now. If I was offered a free ticket, transport and hospitality to a Villa match, well, I'd have to think about it before accepting.
I'm a Villa fan and always will be, but unfortunately Football has left me far behind. Maybe it's an age thing, or even worse I'm changing into my old man!
-
The bloody fancy handshakes I noticed Spurs players doing killed football stone dead for me
-
its villa all the way for me just cant be bothered to watch any other team on tv, canr remember the last ime I watched motd or sky or champons league as steve McLaren would say.
the media bigging up of the harry kane, deli alli, Zlatan pep etc etc etc has really turned me away from everything non villa.
-
I may be a sad bastard but I've enjoyed watching the Villa in the championship this season because we win and played like a team whoop whoop. I was there in the third division when we rose to greatness and we will again. After the last three/four years we are moving in the right direction again WHOOP WHOOP
-
Worst Chesney Hawkes thread ever.
-
Reading the forum as I lay in bed and thought that the title of this thread was awful and what sort of muppet called it that. I was shocked to see it was me. This is a lesson to everybody to not post when they have had a skin full!
I'm now going to see if I drunk texted anybody.
It's strange to see the responses though. I thought I was in a minority but clearly not. It's sad to see what the Sky millions has done to our game.
-
I've always been like this, well before the sky millions, but to be fair, it's about not really liking watching the game as a neutral. I get well into PNE games too these days because there is a team I definitely want to win.
It's a competitive sport and I need to feel there is something for me to win or lose when I watch - from that perspective I can enjoy a good giant killing, or anyone beating Blues or Albion too.
-
I watch Sky and BT games on telly because of my love of football.
The only other club for me is Non League (Midland League) Coleshill Town who I have served well in many different roles over the years so obviously I support them.
But I'm Villa through and through
-
International football this weekend. Not bothered about any of it. Villa on Saturday vs Norwich..... buzzing.
-
I'll watch Villa and Wrexham (my local side), not really bothered by other football. Watch the odd game in the euros & world cup, that's about it. To be honest at times I struggle to have any enthusiasm for watching the Villa, dunno why but I find it hard to relate to a team when some players are more interested in having a luxurious lifestyle than the "weight on the shoulders" of playing for Villa. Though, you know, it's Villa so I do care.
-
I found myself messaging the lads last night to arrange the meet up for Saturday - this is usually done on a Friday but such is my desperation for a fix I felt the need to get things moving a full 5 days early. That's how a fortnight off Villa gets you.
