Wigan Athletic vs Aston Villa
Championship
Saturday 18 March, 15:00
DW Stadium
-
Hopefully we can keep the run going. 2-1, Kodjia to score both.
-
Wigan 0 Aston Villa 2
-
On the basis that things have been going better since I left the country we should cruise this, 0-7/8 at least. Will be watching in cochin!!
-
Got a good feeling about this - Villa to win 3-0.
-
I voted for a win, which will probably mean we will loose.
-
1-1 Draw.
-
Have to win this one comfortably, Wigan are not very good.
-
Think we'll win this putting us in a good position for the international break when hopefully we'll get our injured players fit again ready for the final run-in. Getting a bit worried about impending suspensions - Hourihane's on 9 yellows and Kodjia's on 4. Not sure whether they get wiped in April but if we get them out the way one way or another and get our injured players back I think the squad will really gel and give someone a right pummelling - I estimate around, ooh say... 23rd April. Win this one to keep the momentum going.
-
I think the date for suspensions for 10 bookings passed last Sunday.
-
3rd visit to Wigan and we've drawn both of the other times I went, so I've gone for.....a draw.
-
Nailed on away win. Kodjia to score. Easy
-
Will they have the new Manager bounce?
I assume we will be taking 4000+ so really hope we can go into the break with a run of 6/7 wins
Jedinak from a corner and Hourinane free kick 2-0
-
Crush them!! 0-2 to villa.
-
1-4
Smash it on
-
We always win at Wigan, it's the Law!
-
Them 0-2 Us
-
4-0 win
Kodjia x 3. Hourihane
-
Villa win, 2-0 (penalty and own goal)
-
1-3 Kodjia, Adomah, hoolahoop.
And the Villa go marching ON ON ON!
-
Stupidly gone for a win!
-
I think we are gelling and the hammering is impending....
-
Is there any likelihood of any of our walking wounded returning?
I mean how bad can Grealish's gashed leg be?
-
We will defeat them.
-
Think this could be that "thrashing" that we have been meaning to give out all season.
-
Every time I put a draw we win. I guess I'll keep doing that then.
-
Everything you need to know about Wigan.
It's up North.
It's a Rugby playing town.
It has a pier.
It's the birthplace of George Formby.
It's the venue of the Annual World Pie Eating Championship.

There's something called pea wet that you can order.
A babbie's y'ed is also food.
-
Orange chips? WTF. Give me pea wet anyday.
-
Is Beckenbaker back?
-
Is Beckenbaker back?
Probably only for the first 15-20 minutes.

Ban for bookings has increased to 15 and a three game ban so shouldn't have to worry about bookings for the rest of this season

You were never in Bearwood circa 1985 I take it.
-
“A babbys yed – leave t’elmet on – chips an’ pea wet.” - A baby’s head [steak pudding], with the tinfoil still on with chips and pea wet ( juice discharge from mushy peas).
-
You need to say lad more for a proper Wig accent lad. They'll suss you on Kings Street. Don't make it obvious you can read either.
-
Should beat these handy and if we score an early goal we will. Hourihane will be our key man I suspect. Getting into great positions of late.
We seem to be on a very favourable run of fixtures at the moment.

Fucking savages. For this reason, we'll smash them 0-4.
-
I love mushy peas me and a big piece of parkin of a bonfire night.
-
First time I've heard of Pea Wet. Christ almighty, Oliver Twist would have turned his nose up at it.
-
I think we've begun to gel - 1-2!
-
Mushy peas are horrible and that looks like green slop.
-
Mushy pea water! WTF? Savages is right
No,probes with the pie and chips though.
Think we will get a few in this one 1-4, Grigg for them Kodjia hat trick and a baker header from a corner.
-
Big convincing away win.
-
This is a tricky one as they're now managerless and need the points more than we do.
2-1 them.
-
Hogan back in training which is a pleasant surprise.
-
if we win the next two or three I'd leave him on the bench and concentrate on getting him up and running for next season. With his injury record there's no point throwing into games where there is nothing on it. We're 6 points or so from mid table comfortableness so lets just leave him for this season.
-
Is Nil Lamptey fit for this one? Hopefully BFR will play him at some stage.
-

Make sure you get your Cochin badges while you are there

I imagine Blues fans will be supporting us this weekend, as it's in their best interests 😏

Of course not.
They would rather 'da Vile' lost in any circumstance, even at cost to their own shit.
-
I know, we give them meaning in their lives
-
Looks like The Beard will be playing CB tomorrow
-
Looking forward to a proper pie by the Station at Dewhursts, followed by some scoops.
As for the match, if we can't win this one away then the players really do need their arses kicking. Saying that we are Villa so take nothing for granted

I went to both of those games. I'd just moved to Wigan and lived about 5 minutes away from their old Springfield Park ground. I was convinced that Lamptey was going to be, if not the new Pele, then certainly the new Tony Daley.

Normally a game me and VCTM jnr would be attending but things aren't great at the minute - I am currently struggling with my health and am unemployed whilst junior is recovering after taking a hiding in Seaforth following the big fight two weeks ago !!
I hope you and the other 4.5K Villa fans have something to sing about .
Regards to a fellow Mersey Villan
PS - Risso - I would have liked to have met up tomorrow but the above info alludes to the reason for my absence from a "local game"
Cheers lads !

Get well soon VCTM.

Get well soon VCTM.
Seconded.
-
Hope things turn out better for you soon VCTM, all the best
-
I have always enjoyed reading your posts, get well.

I'd be a bit concerned by that, TBH.
Going there in an emergency during a game is one thing. Less time to think and you just get on with it.
Lining out as a CB this week in training and then starting a game can be a different story. He looks like he has most of the attributes to be a centre half, in fairness. But there must be a reason why he has played central midfield for most of his career.
That said, a choice of him or Mad Tom/ Richards and it is the beard every time. Just hope it doesn't knobble us in central midfield again.
-
Get well soon VCTM.
-
I think we're going to win which is bad news. It's rare these days when I actually think we're going to win, and when I do we usually lose. So a bit of reverse psychology, 5-0 to Wigan.
-
We could be just 11 points off the play-offs with a win and the right results. It couldn't , could it?
-
All the best VCTM...we'll give the Villa boys a shout for you today!
-
We could be just 11 points off the play-offs with a win and the right results. It couldn't , could it?
No. There are only 8 games left after today. If we win today, we'd then need to win the next 4 in a row to close that gap, whilst hoping that none of Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham, Preston, Norwich, Derby or Barnsley pick up too many points as well. Not going to happen, and I would imagine that we probably won't even get close.
-
If anyone reading this is heading up there, I suggest a pie barm
It's a meat and potato pie in a bap / cob / barm / bread cake
I don't think it's part of the Atkins diet
-
On the way and looking forward to the game, if not the food from the descriptions here.

Yep I reckon at least 3 of those will get more than the maximum 75 points we can muster. We just need to be aiming for top 10 with 65+ points and a good ending to the season. If we'd beaten Huddersfield it would be on but we didn't so time to relax and stop stressing about it.

Ah bloody hell Clive, hope things pick up health wise for you soon mate, and that things improve on the job front too. I was going to try to get over for this, but having just moved house, things are still a bit frantic and up in the air here. We must meet up next time I'm over mate. Hope VCTM jnr is OK, sounds nasty.
-
After preston most anticipated game of the season for me. That ended in tears. Really looking forward to being with the 4 and half thousand. Weather here has been shocking...so don't expect a game for the purist

went to a match at Highfield Rd where he was paraded round the pitch before the game with, I think if my memory is correct, brian Lara, and there were high hopes of him. That worked out well eh? Dodgy Ron brown envelope / mortorway services job with him I reckon.

Away win. Hope things pick up very soon VCTM.
-
It's a bit grim here weather-wise. Just walked back from town and am soaked
-
Our local paper, accurate as ever an hour ago. You'd expect better of Kendrick.
They have sold out their full allocation for today's Championship encounter at the DW Stadium, taking around 1,000 supporters.
-
I have a feeling this is going to be a big win , maybe even by four clear goals...
the start of something very big perhaps
C'mon you Lions
