Hurray!!! Three straight wins. Three clean sheets in a row. Poor at times, very good second half. Should have won by a lot more. Still encouraging. Well done boys and the support sounded awesome.
-
Marvellous.
-
Another grim win. Keep 'em coming.
-
You nailed it TV, nothing further to add.
-
3 on the trot, banana skin navigated, moving forward and up. Not perfect but we have played well and lost - it is about winning and we did that.
Congrats all at the club.
-
Never mind the sometimes lack of quality 9 points and 0 goals conceded is a good week
-
Fantastic supporters.
-
I feel giddy.
-
Why did the dick on the comms keep saying it was our first three in a row without conceding since Dec'09? I imagine most teams haven't achieved a similar feat in years. It's not like the fact we've not won three in a row full stop since just a few months later, April '10 (go on the Fonz! Against Pompey right?) wasn't worth reporting.
-
It was more gritty than pretty but i'll take these type performances all day long if it means we win.
Curse broken, 3 point, clean sheet... job done!
-
Did what we had to do and not conceded again
Next two games will be a good barometer of where we are
-
A double did you say? Yes a double it is can't remember the last one!
-
Isn't that three wins in a row for the first time since the days of O'Neill (thought I heard 2010 on the radio earlier in the week)? Three clean sheets as well which is always a good sign.
-
THREE WINS IN A ROW, WITH THREE CLEAN SHEETS, UNBELIEVABLE
-
Results so good we've even got two post match threads! Might take a glance at the league table to see if we've gone above anybody in the last 24 hours
-
Another 3 points! Keep it going boys! UTV!!
-
Not sure, but I think that is the first time we have won three on the bounce since McGrath turned water into wine. Bloke on a stone tablet mentioned it.
-
Another happy wanderer to the pub tonight. Well done Aston Villa.
-
This will have been discussed before but when was the last time we won 3 in a row in the league?
-
3 wins in a row is nice. We should have some confidence now and it's time to start performing in a way that reflects that confidence.
-
Did what we had to do and not conceded again

Not really, the team is decimated with injuries. A full strength Villa would beat most of the teams in this League now. Bruce is beginning to turn things round
-
Great result, and could easily have been 2-3 more Villa goals.
Shame we picked up a couple more injuries, especially as Thor was getting into good positions and had chances to score. I know it was forced, but can't see Amavi working as a winger (or a defender for that matter).
Hutton did well again. Hourihane looking better each game. Lansbury did well. Jedinak seems to be the difference since he came back.
-
I like that we are persisting with the plan and it is starting to break teams down by the second half of games. That helps set a pattern and while we have be better in the first half it does help that we are able to find ways to win even if we haven't been at our best for 90 minutes.
-
Considering the bad luck of the injuries recently which is not going to help plans and Hogan from a few weeks ago plus Bacanas stupid ban . I am over the moon with this, three wins and three clean sheets in a week and will only build up confidence .
Well done Villa this week .
-
Well done Villa!!!!! Hourihane looking the part. Fantastic support again. Class from Ian Taylor singing with the Villa fans

A full strength team would beat most teams in the league? Based on nothing whatsover
So playing a team pushing for automatic promotion and one in the play off places and seeing how we fare against teams at the business end of the table wont tell us anything?
-
oh and since Jedi has got back , a massive improvement with the team.
-
Feels so good. Waiting at Rotherham central, fantastic. 1st half poor but an away win with Villa priceless
-
Genuinely intrigued to see how we get on against 'Udders now... I'm not too hopeful but will be an interesting measure of where we are. Interesting conundrum for Bruce to work out how to integrate Hogan back into the side, I think I'd quite like to see him wider at least until the end of the season because Kodjia has looked excellent at the centre of the front three for the last few games now.

Very interesting as weve got to play 6 out of the top 8, two big games coming up

Today. ;)
Before that it was April 2010 with the third being the win over Small Heath with Milner's late and hilariously controversial penalty.
-
Sounded like we made hard work of it but it's another win and hopefully gives us a bit more confidence. Shame about the other couple of injuries, they do seem to be piling up.
-
The highlights show a number of good chances for us.

We win by two goals without conceding, our third in a row. We are having a bit of a 'mare with injuries but who can moan tonight?*
*Not including the inclusion of Richards on the bench. I'm sure somebody will find something to moan about though.
-
Thanks Woofles, that looked like a well deserved win. Excellent stuff.
I was stuck in a window for over an hour trying to hang a blind. Fucking hate DIY.
-
Heard from commentators "Own goal" and huge cheer from the crowd, and thought - waaay, here we go again. But it was for Villa! :) Well done crowd
-
we have also done the double over someone

We literally could have had 10 today. Even if we looked a little disjointed some of those chances should have seen us 2 or 3 up in the first half alone. I love how the midfield players are attacking the box now especially Hourihane who is starting to look very good.
-
Good away win, feeling V positive about the Villa tonight

Some people just live for stats. Don't let it bother you.
Try watching the cricket and see some of the oddball stats the presenters come out with.

3 in a row! Clean sheets! Hurray!

That's what you get for choosing to work in Amsterdam! ;)
-
Albert's assist count is rising, how many is that now?
-
Three wins and three clean sheets brilliant keep it up lads.
-
Just got back.
I have to say that the Jedi, Houri and Ange are starting to look like the sort of MF that we should have had years ago. And, Taylor playted better today too.
We should really have this done by half-time but did well to hang in there and got the goals we deserved.
The New York Stadium: nice little ground despite being poorly attended by the almost-silent home crowd.
-
That'll do me.
Lovely stuff.
-
Only 16 points off the playoffs #Believe
All it needs is 8 or so teams above us to have a run we were on before the Derby match and we win the remaining games and hey ho we are in the play offs. Easy.
-
Feels good doesn't it? I could get used to this!
Up the mighty Villa boys!!!! ;D
-
Good stuff. It's great winning games!

Watching the highlights it should have been about 5.

Too big a gap I'm afraid.
-
Well dove all at AVFC. Surely we won't still be last in the highlights programmes...
-
Seems like the last time we won three in a row, Barry wasn't taking penalties.
-
We'll end up missing out on the play offs by a couple of points and wondering what if.

Bit early to be making predictions for next season.
-
Well dove all at AVFC. Surely we won't still be last in the highlights programmes...
It will have to be a pretty shit game to be after us! Maybe they'll find one in div 6 of the AFA.
That was a woeful excuse for a football match - the ball only touched the ground a few times.
Our constant hoof-ball is doing my head in but I'll be back up the M1 again Tuesday hoping our horrible brand of football sees us get the better of a very good Huddersfield team. It goes against everything I love and feel about the beautiful game though.
-
Encouraging to pick up a win despite the injuries before and during the game. Appears to all be starting to come together now,
-
I'm definitely starting a GoFundMe page for you lot to pay me to stay away from games. 3 straight wins in the games i've missed.
-
This is better, it's ugly as fuck but the defence look like they're getting their act together and we are starting to create chances. I'll take it for now and hopefully we can add a bit more style and little less clinging on. We really need to get working on taking chances if we're sticking with this though.
If Bruce can deliver these types of results and performances regularly against the bottom half of the table it'll be a big help towards being where we want to be, this is what I expected from him from the start. I just wish he hadn't taken his eye off things for a few months and let us drift though, 10-12 points more and we'd be looking at a late push for the playoffs and we could've had those points if he hadn't made such a mess of things in January and most of February.
-
Looking good and highlight looking good. Think we should spend 20 minutes extra on shooting and finishing every training sessions on the pitch to increase accuracy ;)
-
We deserved the win, but we didn't half make a meal of it.
It was incredibly frustrating the amount of panicked recycling of possession we went through. Balls lumped into the channel to nobody, Jedinak slicing here there and everywhere, head tennis, passes going astray.
We should have been three up at half time, but it was frustrating as anything to watch. It's symptomatic of what I think the biggest issue is, confidence, as once the first went in, we suddenly clicked. It was the same against Bristol; movement increased, Hourihane was a menace, we were flooding the box with runners, passing was sharp. They had a five minute spell where they put balls into the box, but we coped easily and finally wrapped the game up.
Stewarding down the front was atrocious the way they were grabbing people and putting them in headlocks. They carted off what looked like a 10 year old too.
Happy for the win. 3 on the bounce and 3 clean sheets. I hoped for that a week ago and thought it was within our gift if we could just beat Derby.
We need to take our chances as we're a different animal when we're a goal up.
-
It's something mad like we've lost 2 games in 16 when we've taken the lead and pretty much the same in terms of winning when we've gone behind.
I've never known a club so dependant on needing the first goal to get a result in a game. As Ads admits (try that after 10 pints) we rarely lose when we go infront in a game.
Still a very good week and I find it hard to be too critical when we're actually winning games in a row, a feat not achieved in 7 years.
Much tougher week to come and the next two fixtures will give us a pointer on how good this squad will be for next season I think.
Still 60 + points and top 10 should be the target. We have momentum now, let's finish the season with momentum and take that into August.
-
Whilst the last 3 results have been very welcome & an improvement on what went before, it's marginal. But that's seems to be the way with this league. I suspect it's also a fragile improvement.
We'll need to be far more ruthless with the chances we get, keep the ball much better than we are & cut out the fuck ups if the run is to continue.
A couple of good results, against better opposition, would do the team confidence a world of good.
-

See why weren't you posting stuff like this when we couldn't buy a win. You're absolutely right with this, we generally start games ok but if we don't score in the first 10-15 minutes we start to fall into the same traps. Confidence is the key but if you can't get confidence from results or performances then you have to get it from the training ground and I don't think the management and coaching team did anything like enough in that regard, that's why I got so frustrated with Bruce. I still think it's a big problem that he needs to work on but 3 wins in a row buys him time and is a nice confidence boost but it's needs to be a starting point.
-
I post based on what I see. We haven't recycled the ball like today so maddeningly since Brentford.
-
"Alan Hutton, the Scottish Cafu!"
-
The defensive panic-factor is an issue. Hopefully 3 and none will start to rectify the team's confidence.
I think the key driver is the emergence of Hourihane: he was good today and improving all the time; Ange played well and an improving Houri will really move us on.
-
Looks like Ian Taylor had fun from the Twitter footage!
-
Great result well done lads. Could have been a banana skin and you could have guessed villa would have slipped up. We didnt. Onwards and upwards - great to look up not down.
-
Yes, it did sound like we needed the first goal again today. It wasn't from the lack of trying though if the highlights are anything to go by, although it did sound a very dour game.
-

it was great to see him amongst us! He attracts lots of interest.

Didnt really follow the game but watched the highlights, good win but we seemed to miss a shit load of chances and they were lucky to get nil. Only one attack from them on the highlights.
Well done Brucey.

Nah, if it all goes tits up we just blame Legion, it's the H&V way 😉

Very true. And it was going so well when he missed that Sunderland game at VP. Then he started to go again and it's all gone tits up since.

Woeful

It was desperate.
Head tennis for large chunks if the game and we only started to play after the goal.
Very frustrating performance and lots of headless chicken balls to nobody. There's a lot of work to be done.
But, a win is a win. And no goals conceded.
Two and a half thousand out of ten. Fans brilliant again.

I think we have screwed ourselves for Tuesday by not including 'Victorious' in the Post Match Thread title.

Since last summer with the exception of Jedinak, we have bought technically strong players. Have seen little of the past three games mind but hoof ball with the players we have isn't sustainable.
Tuesday night will be interesting, Huddersfield were well beaten today and may be starting to feel a little pressure.
-
Great day out for the Bournemouth Lions. It's always easier on the long journey home with 3 points. Very poor first half display, much better after the goal with the midfield players getting forward more and pressing the ball high up the pitch. Let's just keep this run going and build confidence for next season.
-
It's good and very welcome to win 3 in a row, and hopefully we can take that confidence into the game against Huddersfield. We should have beaten them earlier in the season, so would be nice to set the record straight.
-
Ian Taylor is 100% villa. PLayers come and players go, but three stand out from the last half century as being pure claret and blue. Ian, Gordon Cowans and Denis Mortimer.
Then if we go back 60 years, Peter MacParland has been seen at Villa Park in the last twelve months. A hero who needs to be defended when the 1957 cup final is brought up, as it will be by the Red Mist over the BBC in Salford.
Lots of others have had villa in their blood, McGrath got it in the end. But the four I have named are special.
-
A bit like the Bristol City game, we just needed to be patient and the goals would come, and they did. We did the fight for our right to play football bit which was mind numbing in its awfulness with numerous bouts of head tennis, scrappy possession and squandered chances but we seem to be getting stronger as the game continues and we ran out comfortable winners in my view as Rotherham offered very little in the way of threat. Things must be on the up anyway as for the first time this season I didn't moan about Alan Hutton once during the game. Loved Hourihanes off ball running reminded me hugely of Andy Townsend. Despite Alberts misses he does seem to be playing his way back into a bit of form after a dreadful last couple of months.
Felt a bit sorry for Rotherham bottom of the league by a mile, nice stadium but with nothing to shout about it felt like a soulless Simply Red concert. Still our support seemed to perk up a bit at the start of the second half and we sang our team home. Less said about the stewarding the better but I have to say as ever some of our support don't help themselves.
-
Another ground ticked off. Good atmosphere in the Bridge Inn before the game – it's a boozer covered in away scarves, so you can imagine what happened to a certain blue one that used to hang above the bar.
It seemed like every copper in Yorkshire was out, braced for some Brummie invasion – riot vans, horses, you name it. But not a bit of trouble.
Neat ground. The steep raking of the stands made it a perfect view for both goals, as well as every launched up and under that Rotherham tried. Easy to see why they're bottom, it's all they've got, like an uncultured 80s Wimbledon.
One thing that struck me yesterday was how many of the players have not only got a chant, but get it sung throughout the game (Hutton's got two now, Baker and Chester, Bree, Amavi, Lansbury, Hourihane, Kodjia, Grealish, Green). It's like we've got a connection back to the team after several years of, well, abject shite.
-
Tuesday night will be interesting, Huddersfield were well beaten today and may be starting to feel a little pressure.
I caught the last 25 minutes of the Huddersfield match and from what I saw, the score line flattered Newcastle. Huddersfield were playing with a high tempo and always looking to go forward. I think we will struggle to contain them. We need to take our chances. Huddersfield do look a bit short up front for all of their good approach play.
-
How does the Lansbury one go?
And I couldn't make out the Kodjia one.
-

Henri Lansbury baby, to the tune of
And the Kodjia one is a filthy update of the old Cuellar song, which won't win any poetry prizes.
-
Don't want to be a killjoy but Derby outplayed us and Bristol City and Rotherham are both in the bottom four. Has anything really improved? Tuesday will tell us, especially with so many players missing.

I watched the whole games. Lots of possession for Hudders but they rarely troubled the Geordies goal. Kiss of death but I think they are beatable

Very much League 1 standard at times but the quality that did come came from us. Very short in quality in a lot of areas which is a worry but we we're not conceding and have scored 5 in 3. To look like a side who is going to dominate and look like they can go up 18 shots on goal has got to also show something like 10 or 11 shots on goal. Huddersfield is indeed a good barometer, although injuries and suspensions will also hamper us, but there again the money we've spent should mean we have a team that is very competitive. So, roll on Tuesday and I expect to see us take the game to them. Of course they may beat us, but we need to step up a gear or two and realise that bottom mid table is nowhere near good enough.
3 on the bounce is great, but I'm not celebrating too much when its Derby, Bristol City, and Rotherham as I expect that anyway. Once we've won 5 or 6 on the bounce then I'll think this side could actually do something.

Rotherham had a clear strategy of getting into us and disrupting our game, so not surprising that we were disjointed. Some challenges were robust, to say the least, and the ref didn't really police it well. Not unlike other opponents this season.
The difference in this game was that the MF three were up to it and up for it.
The team is getting better and these three games should be a real confidence-booster.
