Not surprised to see Gardner in. I always saw him as a Bruce type player.

Gardner, yuck!

Good to see Bree on the bench although Huts deserves his place from the last 2 games.

Our results have been quite good when GG has played, still would like Jack to be put in. Hope Green will grab a goal, will do him the world of good. UTV.

It's been chucking it down in North Brum, so it might not be one for the purists

Very solid spine but side looks like it lacks creativity - we should see more of the ball tonight but will that team score 2 or 3 goals - doubt it. Looks like Derby MKii

The team for the wrong half of Bristol

#ASVvBRC: Giefer, Vyner, Flint, Wright, Bryan, Cotterill, O'Neil, Reid, K.Smith, O'Dowda, Wilbraham. #BristolCity

Other than put Grealish in, what else could he have done?

Post by: markeeeebeeee2005 on February 28, 2017, 07:07:04 PM
I would imagine Hourihane is still slightly crocked.

With no striker on the bench, I am starting to question why we didn't hold on to Gestede until the end of the season. I suppose the money was too good to turn down. What's happened to the Russian?

Don't think it will be streamed anywhere, as it's not on tv. Is it on the radio at all?

Elphick as emergency striker !!!! If it does happen that's the end of football as we know it.

That would probably solve our problem of getting players into our attacking box...if Tommy starts there he hasn't pace enough to ever make it out of the area....

Last time we played Bristol City at home in the league we lost 0-2, a season later we won the league.
But look where they've been since. Are we heinous yet?

Such a big penalty miss, would have given us confidence and they'd have had to come at us. They'll be happy to leave with a point and we're shit at breaking teams down.

That's just it though, and I hope they prove me wrong in 2nd half, but we are so mentally weak. One set back and we just go back into our shells.

Adomah lacks the speed to be an out and out winger.
I hesitate to criticise Adomah because I've been on his back for a while. However, he is not good enough!

Why is that though? He was fast enough and good enough to be a near ever-present for the team promoted in second place nine months ago.

So there is demonstrably a player there that is good enough, but if he's not being used properly then he's going to look mediocre.

Yes.

You have to win the physical battles and then be able to set the tempo, particularly at home.

I have seen slower players than Adomah make it as good wingers.  But if you lack straight line speed you have to make up for it with aggression and grittiness.  Bellamy was not quick but he was very effective.  Mark Walters though not a pure winger, played a good wide game.  Adomah has the same dislike of physicality as Downing without Downing's excellent technique.

Numerous times on Saturday the ball went forward with one of the front men picking it up.
The rest of the team, including the 'midfield' were in our half and walking out, or jogging at best to get up with play.
The front players are so isolated from the rest of the team it's a frigging joke.
AND, the reason the team jog or walk out is because they ain't fucking fit !

For the second midweek game on the bounce I decided to keep my season ticket in my wallet and stay home.
I can't say I have had one second of regret.

Well firstly, he is clearly not rated by the team that used him last season; and secondly, I'd question whether he's getting properly coached  / briefed to be effective.

Are we looking like a comfortable, soon to be back in the premier league team?

I'd take looking like a vaguely competent second division team first, mind.
Thats a no then? :D

Another pen decision in our favour?

He'd have been sent off as well, even fora second yella.

And he got sacked off pretty quickly by VillaBoro.

How does that change anything I wrote?
Well firstly, he is clearly not rated by the team that used him last season; and secondly, I'd question whether he's getting properly coached  / briefed to be effective.
Either way - his cross tonight notwithstanding - I don't see the game-changer that I expected.

The team that used him last season felt that while he was good enough for a Championship promotion push, he wasn't good enough for the Premier League. Something I'd completely agree with.

The second point is my entire point. He's more than good enough for a Championship promotion attempt, as he's done it before.

He's just not being used or managed anything like effectively enough.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see whether he can do it.
I take your point and I concede that - maybe - he is a bit of a hobby horse for me.

Just as well we're winning - what with Blackburn leading Derby 1-0. I wonder what the odds are for McClaren Island completely drifting off his bonce before the end of the season?

From the Beeb: Former Barnsley midfielder  Conor Hourihane gets his first goal in an Aston Villa shirt, firing in from close range after Albert Adomah had a shot blocked.

Blocked by his other leg maybe.

Jawdeez now beating BHA 1-2.

That's why they are called The Magpies.

It used to be folklore that they stole the shiny precious things from the rich people on the South Coast and then fly back up t'north and drop them on coal ships  headed to Newcastle.

That's what they've been doing in training all this time. Working on the art of slicing the ball into the shin or knee so that it squirts off square for a teammate. Great to see the hard work paying off at last!
