Right......did anyone get anywhere near that line up?
-
JOHNSTONE, HUTTON, TAYLOR, CHESTER, ELPHICK, BAKER, HOURIHANE, BJARNASON, LANSBURY, KODJIA, HOGAN
3-5-2 by the looks of it
ADOMAH, BUNN, BACUNA, GREEN, GARDNER, AMAVI, DAVIS
-
I don't understand playing wing backs but having the team's two best crossers on the bench
-
Merge with Mr Sox if you could please mods. Ta

Blow that Bree is injured. And maybe he's looking for more defensive stability out of Taylor. I certianly that he's not playing 5-3-2 at home
-
Fecking Twitter and their fecking massive pics 😡
-
Bree must be injured, the return of Alan Shitton again.
-
do we have to...?
-
Two defensive wing backs, why would you play Hutton ahead of Bacuna in that role? Plus, it's made for Amavi on the left, as out of form as he has been.
-
Ugh! Hutton wing back, he couldn't cross the road ffs!
-
Bree being out is a blow.
-
The three players with natural width all on the bench...so we'll be trying to break them down through the middle then...because we have been so good at doing that.
Don't get it but hey ho...got a feeling it won't be pretty...
-
5 at the back at home to a side that are nearly as bad at scoring goals as we are. I hope it works but it's hardly inspiring.
-
That is a shit, ultra defensive looking line up. Rubbish.
-
What's wrong with Bree? Typical, new signing injured!!
-
That is a shit, ultra defensive looking line up. Rubbish.
That's the spirit Risso!
-
All these new signings and im pretty unimpressed by the line up. As others have said, Bacuna and Amavi would be far better. It'll all go through the middle and we will get frustrated.
-
How many defenders?
-
5
That is a shit, ultra defensive looking line up. Rubbish.

I know, but honestly, 5 at the back at home, against Ipswich, with two non-attacking full backs? And in Hutton's case, non-footballing full backs.
-
well someone had to post it!

It really is beyond parody. Hutton playing at all beggars belief.
-

This. Screw Bruce and his shitty ideas on how to play football.
Time for some nice beer and Witcher 3, Blood and Wine.
-
I hope there aren't any live streams.
-
I don't understand why this is so difficult. We actually played some decent stuff under RDM. Just couldn't it going until the end where tactically and fitness wise we were exposed. In many of those games we led late into the game having dominated most of them with some really good attacking football. Our finishing was mostly awful. Then Bruce comes in and we become more conservative, even negative. It just didn't need to go that far the other way. This better be 3-5-2 but it just looks 5-3-2 now. 3-5-2 would be better served with Bacuna and Amavi. Maybe I'm missing something because I hope he's got plans for Hourihane and Lansbury to really push forward today.
-
Hutton instead of Bacuna and Taylor instead of Amavi at home ...??
well we will see , shame about Bree , he looked miles better than Hutton already even at 19 or whatever age he is.
-
All these new signings and im pretty unimpressed by the line up. As others have said, Bacuna and Amavi would be far better. It'll all go through the middle and we will get frustrated.
All humpty dumpty down the middle, as BFR might say.
All Tony's millions and all Tony's men, couldn't put Villa together again.
-
I really like adomah. Looks like Bruce don't
-
To be honest when I'm happy with the line up we play shit and when I'm not happy with the line up we play shit.
Here's hoping we're not shit today
-
Are we looking for the counter attack at home with this formation? I always thought that worked better away when the onus is on the home team to come out and play. The old, "Stifle and Hope".
Fuck it, whatever. Come on Villa. Just bloody entertain, not even win.
-
a sign that yet another managerial regime change is on the horizon
-
Just turned on the wireless and seems we're the commentary game. Tony Morely has turned into Del Boy "this time next week". Actually I think we may be on DAB, which is meaningless to me.

did you hear your request? cracking tune mate thanks
-
We played three centre backs and wing backs under Brian Little (Southgate, Ehigo, Barry mostly) and I do not remember that being that defensive or not entertaining - won a cup and fairly happy days. I don't think we need to be too negative about the formation and setup.
-
Mebbe he wants extra cover at the back because he doesn't trust the keeper to deal with any sort of ball at all, even against modest opposition.
In which case put in a different keeper, rather than handicapping us with a water tight back-line containing Elphick and Hutton.
-
Hutton seems to be the new Westwood.
-
Thing is Hutton doesn't disappear in games, whether he's good enough going forwards, or often unsupported by teammates is fair debate. He's always trying and involved, I think.
-
a world with two Westwood's fills me with dread
-

I think I saw Hutton's last efforts at right wing back at home to Stoke towards the end of tactics time.
Hutton's selection beggars belief as does the continued efforts to play three centre backs at home, two of which have an allergic reaction to keeping the ball. It's OK though, this tactical masterplan was clearly constructed during the recent transfer blitz.
-
Granted..Hutton is trying and does get involved in things...usually goals that we conceded.
-
Well smeg knows how you listen to WM DAB on a laptop, bugger.

Cheers Boz, appreciated.
-
Tony Morley's voice is a never-ceasing source of wonder to me.
-
8 mins in and no mention of the action...tell its own story?
-
Playing something called 'well', apparently?
-
Somehow we haven't scored, keeper pulls off a good save.
-
Could have conceded a penalty sounds like.
-
Tony Morely a great double act with Sid if you get the opportunity to see them on a night out with the European cup winners.
-
Somehow we haven't scored, keeper pulls off a good save.
I've heard that before his season. It generally ends with us not scoring enough and them scoring to fuck us off royally.

3 corners, 6 shots ... ipswich 0.

I can confirm this.

Afternoon all, Ipswich look really poor, especially at the back. Can't anything but a Villa win today. We've already gone close a couple of times.

We simply have to turn these types of positions into wins. We've had lots of games where the exact same could be said to come away with a point or worse
-
I didn't realise the Taylor for Ipswich is the hapless Steven.

True, I forgot to mention we look dodgy at the back too. At least we're pressing them higher up the pitch.
#prayforads
-
Villa well on top at the moment though, it's these periods when we never seem to score, before getting kicked in the knackers around the 43rd minute. Come on, get the goal.
-
thor has hit the bar
-
That was unlucky
-
Hit the bar!
-
Bjarrnason clips the bar after a Lansbury free kick. Come on Villa.
-
Off the bar.
-
hutton sending the ball in and hes put it out of play
no shit sherlock

This will make you laugh Mark. So I'm moving to Chicago soon because of work. Been in touch with Simon. Expect depressed Villa drunk pics in the not too distant future.

Villa have to take these chances

That'd be lovely, wouldn't it?! I will accept a better performance today though. Just show us Villa can compete and boss teams a bit.

Ace. You'll have a ball with the Chicago Villans. Just go easy on the pies.
-
Norwich have scored three against Forest
And?
Just commenting on Villa's inability to score more than one or occasionally two when other teams don't seem to have the same trouble
-

Fair comment I thought Boz. I was thinking exactly the same when I heard Norwich had 3 after 17 minutes.
-
close
hutton cross there
-
6 pages in 35 minutes. Must be a cracking game.
-
It might help if we offer the player with the ball an option or two for a pass rather than him having to lump it up front.
-
come on lads, a win and we can close the gap on 6th place to just the 13 points

Yeh he told me last night he was playing football and would text me back after. Needless to say he didn't and is likely in a pie/beer induced coma right now.

That's the spirit Alex!
-
We had it down to three or four around Christmas
-
This feels like the most nailed on 0-0 in the history of the world.
-
6 pages in 35 minutes. Must be a cracking game.
Threads are always smaller for home games when we're not on TV, as it's wireless or a Facebook feed that's normally a minute or so behind.
-
Bristol City are also beating Derby away 0-3
-
come on lads, a win and we can close the gap on 6th place to just the 13 points
That's the spirit. Then we just need to win another 5 games in a row while 10 teams above us repeatedly lose and we're right back in the mix.
-
SCORE A GOAL
-
SCORE A GOAL
Not enough....I'm thinking a four goal lead would be ok
-
This feels like the most nailed on 0-0 in the history of the world.
5-3-2 and struggles to score VS 5-3-2 and struggles to score.
Hmmm wonder how this turns out :D
-
Score Villa score, once you get one you'll get more.
-
apparently Tom Robinson has just made a run according to The WM commentary. All together 2 4 6 8 Motorway.
-
I'm too busy singing Glad to be Gay.
-
Half time.
-
Sounds like we played okay, and Ipswich are shit.
-
Not pulling up trees then.
-
I'm too busy singing Glad to be Gay.
What are you so happy about?
-
Morley is optimistic Villa will score one, but they need at least three.
-
Not pulling up trees then.
True, more like pulling out teeth.
-
Not pulling up trees then.
We're not even mowing the lawn.
-
Morley is optimistic Villa will score one, but they need at least three.
I don't get excited when we go 1-0 up anymore. Has to be the second or third.
-
All the forward balls are long. We just are not playing through our new central midfield. Two of the best strikers in the league but still no service.
Very, very, frustrating to watch.
-
We have played ok. The new midfielders are close to working well with Lansbury having a good game. Hourihane looks a bit out of it on the left he needs more ball to be effective. Didn't realise Hogan was so quick and a shortie for a number 9 but pleased to see that shirt occupied. Other than that it's bloody cold.
-
Extremely dull first half for the most part. It's like we buy a load of good players and then train all of the quality out of them. I'm not one for chopping and changing managers all the time but am already starting lose faith in Bruce.
-
Aaaargh, Mumbles is on the wireless!
-
You don't get excited very often then?
-
We've had 15 goal attempts, compared to some games this season that's Barcelonaesque.
-
I'm too busy singing Glad to be Gay.

I finish work in an hour.

Bruce has the players and he has until the end of season to get them playing good football and scoring at least two a game average otherwise Villa will remain a mid table side next season as well.
We are not anywhere near our potential with these players based on this performance
-
We've had 15 goal attempts, compared to some games this season that's Barcelonaesque.
But how many on target?
-

-
Not pulling up trees then.
We're not even mowing the lawn.
We haven't even got a lawn, just a backyard
-
Maybe a goal will unlock the shackles but it's been very much two midtable Championship teams on a cold and dull afternoon so far.
-
Im not at the match and can't find anywhere to view it.
Are the team working better together? Any sign of tactics beginning to work?
I saw a worrying statistic about how we play in different phases of the game, and as far as I can remember up to the 30min mark is generally the closest thing we have to a purple patch.
-
I think the number of games where we concede in the last 5 mins or injury time should be a big worry.
-
Ipswich should have scored
-
Bloody hell, we're riding our luck at the moment.
-
Bruce is already on borrowed time if we lose today
-
Come on Bruce you cnut ,freshen things up with a couple of changes.
-
Looks like Mick is better at half time talks than Steve. Pressing Villa and Ipswich now have 51% possession
-
Sounds like we've had our good half.
-
As it stands we're 25 points behind Newcastle in second having played a game more. If it stays this way and Newcastle win at Wolves today I think we might struggle to catch them.
-
irrespective of who we play, we constantly appear to be second best.
The old saying of doing the same things time after time and expecting different results, spring to mind
-
What a dreary time to be a Villa fan. I feel sorry for those of you trying to get their kids to support them.
-

And there was me saying pre-season that Newcastle should be our benchmark for the season. Two poor teams relegated with players that didn't give a feck.
-

Ahhh, have you forgotten the 6 pointer next week though.

Is it a case for Bruce you can't teach an old dog new tricks
-
Not scoring here are we.
-
Was it Gollum who described us as a half arsed football club?
-
Hutton off Albert on
-
Bruce is already on borrowed time if we lose today
He's not though.
-
I'm honestly losing the will to live following Villa. It's soul draining.
-
What a dreary time to be a Villa fan. I feel sorry for those of you trying to get their kids to support them.
I can assure you it's not easy. My son absolutely loves football but can't understand why we don't score as often as other teams.
-
I'm honestly losing the will to live following Villa. It's soul draining.
It's not even that much fun.

Looks like Leeds bubble has burst losing 0-2 to Neil Warnocks Cardiff

I suspect it's something to do with the coaching
-
Good god this is terrible, we just seem to be getting worse!
-
I think I'm a patient person, but Villa really stretch me. Thank goodness the 6 nations is on as a distraction.
-
We've somehow managed to neuter two of the best forwards and two of the best goalscoring midfielders in the division. That's some going that is.

Forgot about that, could really kick start our season and cause a few jitters for Newcastle if we come away with a win.
-
The lack of movement is a fucking disgrace.

On the bright side, think how terrible things would be if we'd not appointed a promotion specialist.

Andre Green will be coming on.

Tannoy at Bodymoor 'pass and move' repeat as nauseum.

On a plus note. Ive just paid off my holiday balance.

I decided not to got today and i asked around work anyone want me ticket and yes nobody wanted it

Said with tongue firmly in cheek, At least I hope so
-

Skegness?
-
Plus side, Rotherham are beating Blackburn, so keeps us clear of the bottom 3.
-
Off the line
-
it appears to be the Bruce McCarthy classic that many were anticipating
-
Off the line
For us or them ?
-
McCormack scores for Forest
-
Lolz 1 down after Tommy slips
-
2 for Bent and derby back to 3-3
-
oh dear

Ipswich have just scored :-(

Off the line

For us
-
oh dear
-
Fantastic. Fucking fantastic.
-
elphick is a fucking nightmare
-
OMG
-
Well at least we're consistent. another late goal
-
Ffs
-
Well we might not be getting results, but at least the football's entertaining.
-
and there goes the home form
-
Get Fucked Bruce.
-
McCormack scores for Forest
Perhaps we should make a summer move?
-
On a plus note. Ive just paid off my holiday balance.
Skegness?
I wish I could afford it
-
the final ball is shite
should have played amavi and bacuna
-
elphick is a fucking nightmare
Strange decision to bring such a chaotic player back into a mostly functional defence.
-
5 at the back at home, shameful.
-
We are in the shit Make no mistake
-
Fcking rubbish as usual.
-
elphick is a fucking nightmare

I thought he looked rubbish last week
-
McCormack scores for Forest
Perhaps we should make a summer move?
Chortle.
-
Jesus wept - we are garbage.
-
The WM commentators need to be more critical of Bruce, can't keep making excuses for Bruce, but of course they can't I suppose.
-
this isnt good enough
calderwood has a great record so far
-
To be honest I think we're going to struggle to become one of the top five teams in the world in the next five years, the Dr might have to lower his sights.
-

We are stunningly shit
-
5 at the back at home to a shit side, defensive fullbacks and Elphick. I'm amazed it hasn't worked.
-
the money this team has cost , this is absolute bobbins

Camping would be quite reasonable although it may be wet. British summers and all that.
-
5 at the back at home to a shit side, defensive fullbacks and Elphick. I'm amazed it hasn't worked.
Indeed, it's absolutely pathetic.
-
Bruce will be gone in the summer
-
looks like were now the best club for wasting money and peoples time ffs
-
Give Bruce time and he will get us up. I'm confident of that.
My fear is the fans have become so accustomed to the Club being in crisis and so addicted to the adrenaline rush of hirings and firings that the pressure we place on managers and players to immediately perform is destroying us.
-
As others have said, how can you have the most potent strike force and yet have them in a system that doesn't encourage them to flourish.
-
Taxi for Fist Face.
-
Bruce will be gone in the summer
Yeah, end of season departure
-
Can we get Rowett in?
-
the mistakes are so obvious, it's like the whole club is in a state of paralysis and whoever comes becomes infected too
-
We need a new training facility.
Whatever goes on at BMH just turns everyone and everything to shite.
We seriously need to look over our shoulders now.
-
McCarthy shows Bruce what's needed at half time, how piss poor is that
-
Remember last season when people sneered and laughed at those who said we could be relegated from the Championship a year after getting the boot from the PL? Christ what a fuckin nightmare this club is.
-
Are there any HT cables near BMH, if they are they need relocating?
-
boo's
-
I have no idea what we need to do to fix Aston Villa, but this is shit.
-
Give Bruce time and he will get us up. I'm confident of that.
I guess with enough time he probably would.
A bit like the adage about an infinite amount of monkeys and an infinite amount of typewriters being able to replicate the works of Shakespeare.
-
What a load of shite
-
given we are such a basket case I am now wondering what manager we can seriously attract.
-
Give Bruce time and he will get us up. I'm confident of that.
Sure but from what Division?
-
We are well and truly in the shit now!
We won't win any of our games this month and will be in drop zone come 1st of March.
Fuck off Villa
-
Bruce will go in the summer - this is just woeful. Utter garbage with those resources available. Get Wagner in if Huddersfield don't go up.
-
I've only watched the highlights of the game, but in every Ipswich chance that is featured it looks like either his positioning looks suspect, or he and Baker are getting in each other's way. I've noticed lots of occasions over the course of the season where he has ended up on the wrong side, or out of position, and rather than busting a gut to recover, seems to be waiting for someone else to deal with it. He doesn't even seem to have the necessary physicality. He gives me no confidence at all.
