Title: New Matchday parking
Post by: dave.woodhall on February 09, 2017, 10:22:09 AM
Grant Adams, absolute diamond of this parish, has asked us to say that the Sertec site on Electric Avenue will be open from midday on Saturday and for all games from now on. It's guarded, secure and costs £5. If you know Grant I won't have to tell you that the money will go to good causes.

What a lovely recommendation - I shall certainly give it a try.

I may well rock down to Electric Avenue on Saturday; is Grant's nickname Eddy?

Its £5 at the moment but I'm sure they'll make it higher ;)

On a slightly different tack is there anywhere else to drink in that area? Since the Ruskin Hall went I have struggled to find an appropriate parking place and pub replacement. Needs to be somewhere permanent as it going and my Villa routine being smashed to pieces (when at home) has coincided with where we are now.

Closest to this car park is Swan & Mitre on Lichfield Rd or The Aston Social. Both places you need to be a member although you can pay into the ASC.

It's been a fiver for ages.  I can't see how they could charge any more, given the distance from the ground and other people charging the same.

Nearest pub is the Villa Tavern BTW, just over the road, 20 minutes from the ground.

Is this a 5 post argument or a longer stint before I start?🤔

5 post please.  That will be plenty to list the reasons why Mr Adams is a "legendary supporter"

That's enough of that please. This is not the place to debate the merits of an individual supporter who happens to be one of the best I've ever met.

No worries Dave

I'd hate to jeopardise your chances of a free meal sometime in the future.

I've met Grant and he's a nice guy but when did we start claiming some supporters are better than others?

Exactly.  Giving Dave Woodhall a freebie in the hospitality area may well make him (in Dave's eyes) "one of the best I've ever met" but it certainly does not constitute "legendary status"

Come back when you've done as much for ordinary Villa supporters as Grant has. And I don't need freebies off him - I get enough off the board thanks.

Boring. Do you really think the purpose of this thread was a freebie and to big up another supporter?

Ridiculous.

Oh get your tongue out of his arse - It's sickening.

Find somewhere else, have you tried the combat 18 message board?

It's called speaking as you find. Someone does a lot for his fellow supporters - I'll say so. But as was said above, this thread doesn't exist to talk about other supporters, or for petty grievances to be aired.

I have no grievance with anyone, petty or otherwise.

I have had had favours from Grant in the past so I'm certainly not in a position to complain.  You are the one who started talking about other supporters and people would be excused for thinking that we should be calling him "Saint Grant" moving forward.  Even HDE doesn't describe himself as a "legend".  Do you not think, given the benefit of hindsight that it was a bit OTT?

If you're speaking as you find then great.  The way you put it across though, was as if it was the general accepted opinion, rather than just your own.

Finally, how many other matchday enterprises have you given free advertisments to on here?  As for the "good causes" claim in post one, is that just you "speaking as you find" again or is it a fact?

I don't see the problem with personally singing the praises of a fellow supporter if one deserves it. Besides, it seems Dave is just doing someone a favour by promoting parking space which someone will no doubt find very useful. I don't see the problem with it.

First of all, I've not called anyone a legend.

Second, I gave my opinion - he's someone I have a great deal of time for, not least for the way in which he's always helping other supporters.

Third, anyone in the same position who asks gets the same treatment.

Fourth, I was told, and it's been said elsewhere, that the money raised is going to help others.

Finally, will you be apologising for the earlier insults?

I think claiming him as one of the "best Villa supporters" can irk a bit. Then again I suppose any of us who've endured Villa since 2010 could have a genuine claim on that title.

We have found some issues to fall out over on this site but bickering on a thread advertising the availability of ne car parking is going to take some beating.

I wasn't aware of any insults.  Are you throwing your weight around now with "apologise or else"?  :)

You can ban if you like.  It won't be the first time and I dare say it won't be the last

You hate criticism don't you?  You're so easy to wind up, you chomp every time.

Indeed, it's almost like he's had a problem with Dave before, strange with him being a relatively new member.

His last post isn't the post of a new member. He even seems to be admitting a previous ban. Bit of a schoolboy error that. Anyway, I suspect it will be his last post. In this guise, at least.

And "Get your tongue out of his arse" isn't an insult but the sort of thing that should blithely be accepted. Ah, well.

Strange thread this.

Was he the guy who did the piece for MOTD 2 end of last season? Summed up things quite well I thought.

And I must be the only one who'd turn my nose up at actually paying a fiver for parking!

Can get the train from Chester road for about 2.50 return or park free at Star City or Holcroft industrial estate to name three. Yes longer walks but that's part of the "matchday experience" for me.

No it shouldn't and the remark is so out of place when you think about someone like Grant. Anyway it's best we all quit on this now.

I love a good bust up but that was like the drunk guy in the pub trying to pick a fight with everyone, including the Landlord, for no discernible reason.

Think OK has lost it.
