We were relegated soon afterwards but even as a Division 3 team we had an aura over our name and we reached a league cup final.
I cannot think of a time since that our credit as a top class football club has ever been so low.
A lot of issues have caused this, we are now on our 5th manager since February two years ago. Martin O'Neill needs locking up for leaving us in such a mess and we need stability so no matter what we have to give Steve Bruce time in an attempt to rescue us somehow. I just hope Dr Tony doesn't give up on us too soon.
As supporters we need to galvanise ourselves behind the club, who have never needed us more than in the past 27 years.
Up the Villa and night night (just back home from Notts)

We are a comedy club at the moment, everyone thinks we are hilarious, the laughing stock of football. Money constantly down the pisser. moron players doing moron things, revolving door of managers, numerous late kick in bollocks defeats, comedy goals against, you name it and we've done it.
They don't deserve the name Aston Villa attached to them.

Something stinks and I don't know where to start looking!

If stinks of piss, B.O and obsession, B9 would be my suggestion.

I dont care about our status or how others see us.
But I do care that we are shite and the freefall we have been in for years seems to be back again after a very brief respite. Its not good.
And no, I have no idea how to fix it. Every solution has been tried. Often more than once. I really dont know any more.

A lot of parallels with that era. Several years of a combination bad luck (Joe Mercer getting ill), a succession of inept managers and sub-standard players and mostly just being very, very badly run. It seemed that a very deep rotted malaise had set in. Sounds familiar doesn't it. What kick-started the revival was the new Board that Pat Matthews put together who sorted things out behind the scenes. I think we carried on going backwards for a bit after that but then it started to turn around, and the next 10-12 years were pretty amazing. Let's hope the new owner eventually has the same effect this time around. He certainly seems to putting his money where his mouth but then so did Lerner. It's more about the way the club is run so hopefully big Tone is getting to grips with the lack of professionalism that seems to have infected every corner of the club under Lerner.

Boo-hoo
Sometimes, you can't unravel years of neglect and poor management in a matter of a few months. Lets see where we are next season before reaching for the razor blades.

I recall 67/68 and 68/69 quite well. Three are definitely similarities with the current debacle although I think there is more quality in the side now than then.
I just remember that there was a lot of early season optimism which evaporated long before we were ultimately relegated to Div 3.
Wouldn't be totally surprised if that happened again and may be a price worth paying if our recovery was equally as spectacular.

Huh?
The club has just gone through a 6 year sabotage by an owner who washed his hands of any ambition and actively sold our best players and replaced the lot with lower league shit. This happened more or less over 6 long years and that's why we were relegated after suffering one of the worst eras in our history. Xia is starting from scratch. That's what happened to Aston Villa.

The only sabotage was O'Neill spending Lerner's $$$$. No wonder randy saw his arse
