Title: Brentford FC v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread
Post by: UK Redsox on January 26, 2017, 12:21:00 PM
Griffin Park
Tue 31 Jan
KO 19:45

Since we're all in a positive mood, we might as well start discussing on the suddenly more varied possible team line ups

Pointy will start of course but where will Angela, Thor and Konna Hooriman fit in ?

Hopefully Hogan will have departed for West Ham by then, so that's a big threat gone.

2-0 to us. And no pointy.

My prediction for the line-up is:

Johnstone

Hutton
Elphick (assuming Baker gets injured by Tuesday)
Chester
Amavi

Adomah
Hourihane
Lansbury
Green

Agbonlahor
Kodjia

We would actually have loads of options on the bench to improve things if need be! Notably Adomah, Bjarnason, Grealish and Bree.

All of a sudden I now believe we could still make the play offs

New players bounce and the wasters either fight for their lives or begin the long goodbye.

Either way I almost shot my load when I realised Dracula, Pointy, Matata and Flabby could quite possibility not be in the team anymore thus bringing an end to one of the worst teams in living memory and their contributions to our demise. Goodbye wankers!

Hello new professional players! Welcome aboard.

4-1 Villa !!!

I can't wait.  Not expecting miracles overnight, but seeing a midfield make the odd run into space, or create a chance for the forwards is quite an exciting prospect.  If I never see Ashley Westwood in a Villa shirt again, it will be too soon.

Cant see Grealish being in the starting line up unless we need a conductor ......... afraid he has become all arm waving and little end product ..... won't surprise me if he is not even on the bench.
Green was more of a threat against Preston
Jack needs to get his act together and quickly otherwise he will not be part of this new look team

Away win. A lot of quality in that midfield now, backed with Kodjia up top and somebody can cross the ball from right back, I'm confident we'll start to score goals.

Got to win the next two away games. No ifs, buts or maybes.

We just bought three players who work hard and genuinely enjoy scoring goals. That's such a detachment from where we were in terms of available midfield options and talent not even 2 weeks ago.

As I live fairly locally and as Griffin Park is the only London ground I've not visited and as the Villa away allocation has sold out, I innocently phoned up Brentford for a ticket for this one, only to be told that only buyers with a previous history could be sold tickets. The guy told me that as Villa had sold out their away allocation, the home crowd had to be reduced on police advice. Now work that one out if you can. I can't. it seems there are seats available but none to be had - because of our away support?!? I really don't get it. And I'm pissed off because I was looking forward to this one. Any ideas?

Gabby will start again, expect Kodjia off bench. Sincerely hope Bruce doesn't try pairing them in a front two.

Hutton to keep his place too until he drops a real clanger. 433 I expect, as others have said lots of competition for the front three positions. Grealish and Ayew who have flattered to deceive all season really need to seriously get their act together.

----------------Johnstone
Hutton, Chester, Baker, Amavi
-----Lansbury, Jedinak, Hourihane
Adamoah, Gabby, Green

Think we will get back to winning ways here, a lot more mobility in midfield now. 3-1

Bunn, Bree, Elphick, Bacuna, Grealish, Ayew, Kodjia

Interesting to see whether Bruce throws them all in. Common sense would suggest that they'll be graduall introduced after a few weeks of training. But he chucked Lansbury in after he'd only just signed and been out injured for weeks.

I'd be tempted to put out a side of mostly the players that started against Preston and then change it up in the 2nd half if necessary. 4 new players straight in could go tits up.

I know nothing about any of these new players (much like the ones we signed in the last few windows) so cannot really pass comment on them. One thing, I trust SB though. So if they are good enough for him, they're good enough for me.

Away win - come on Villa FTF! My mate Brentford Matt will hopefully be getting some stick during this one.

Think the only way to get tickets in the home end is with a Brentford booking history. I know a few who will be in the home end and so maybe that is the police fear, reduce the allocation and it will prevent people sitting in the home end - not that it seems to be working

This is perfect is you facing a dangerous side like Newcastle or Leeds. Also for some away games.

Against a less dangerous opponent id prefer something like this

-------------------Johnstone----------------
Bree--------Chester------Baker------Amavi
-----------Bacuna----------Hourahane------
------------------Lansbury------------------
Adomah--------------------------Bjarneson
-------------------Kodjia--------------------

Switching those between those two  lineups would give some consistency. Been too many changes in playsystem from game to game but with these  new players we might finally have some stability. Looking forward too rest of season now...even if it might be too late to salvage a PL spot. Just seeing Villa finally win again on a regular basis would be a balm...

I can't see Westwood being in there for Hourihane. There's no reason why he can't slot straight in, he's been playing in the league all season and is fully match fit. We've also got a few extra days to train with no game this weekend so I'd definitely expect to see him and Lansbury start.

I think this would be my team with the exception of Hutton for Bree, as 3 debutants is more than enough, also Hutton adds experience and doesn't need to attack so much.
Gabby may start instead of Kodija only because of flights as I have no idea when Kodija will get back.

I can see us absolutely smashing Brentford: with the new signings RULING the centre of the park. Kodjia will lead the attack like a man demented (after his AFCON disappointment) and it'll be all Villa - as the 11-man Bees defence rock under an unrelenting bombardment.

Agbonlahor to play 86 minutes and neither score or assist.

I have a Brentford booking history from going to see them play against Lambert's Blackburn last March. My aul'fella was over for a visit and they were the closest London team playing at home that day so we chanced it. 0-1, late winner. Almost as grim as watching the Villa, certainly colder.

Anyway, if anyone wants to try using my ref (for the home section obviously), let me know.

Buffon; Daniel Alves, Chellieni, Thiago Silva, Hummels; Muller, Iniesta, Westwood; Suarez, Ronaldo, Messi

Really hope that with the signings this is not yet another false dawn...we've been kicked in the nuts so many times over the last few years. There's only so much we can take surely !!
The possible team looks the most balanced we have had for years imo and am genuinely looking forward to seeing Hourihane, Lansbury, Bree and Thor strut their stuff.
Be nice to watch a Villa game without shouting the phrase "oh ffs" on a regular 5 minute basis....

Brentford should be a bit leggy after spending all afternoon chasing shadows at Chelsea which along with us finally having a midfield means 2-0 to the Villa.

A win is a must. We now have all the ingredients for success. Might need a bit of time to gel but hopefully the class recently purchased will flow. Hopefully, Hogan won't play with for them either. I can see us going on a good run but any run starts with one game.

Johnstone

Hutton Chester baker amavi

Lansbury Jedinak hourihane

Adomah kodjia green

Subs: bunn elphick bree Bacuna Thor grealish gabby

Bruce has confirmed that the club won't risk Jedinak against Brentford to allow him full recovery from his groin strain.  Hence my team would be:

                   Johnstone

        Bree Chester Baker Amavi

Adomah Lansbury Hourihane Bjarnason

                   Grealish

                    Kodjia

Bench: Bunn Hutton Elphick Gardner Bacuna Green Gabby.  No room on the bench for Westwood.

Nice and positive.  Time to win away.  3-1 Villa.

But playing him, Lansbury and hourihane in midfield would be a bit of a gamble

We have to win this one surely?

Brentford were pretty good at VP and will overload the midfield but Hogan's leaving for someone so won't be playing so they won't have a finisher.

Can see it being one of those games where they have 60 odd % possession but we nick a couple on the break like the good old days.

0-2.

Before match xia tweets that signings to be announced at half time of match - The hulk is one incredible signing  .

Thats Scott Hulk Hogan starts on the bench for Brentford then we sign him at half time so bring him on to get a hat trick.

Full time 1-4 villa!

Not possible of course! However I say either Scott hulk Hogan signs or villa score 4 goals

If neither happen!
I won't ever post on this site again and your ll be free from irritation and deemed ramblings and poor gramar messages !

What I'm saying is villa will score 4 goals . Or and
Scott Hulk Hogan will sign.

Thanks please remember!  4 goals!

No point in keeping our eggs dry or all our powder in one basket. Throw the kitchen sink at em steve and keep it going till the last kick of the season. If we get promoted that would be epic if not we can keep the momentum going into a title push next season. COME ON VILLA!
