Another joke of an away performance....sad thing is as soon as I saw the line up I didn't expect much else.
McCormack is a move that just isn't going to work out....Gabby is Gabby. Why on earth did we let Gestede go without another striker ready to come in, strikes of complacency.
Our away performances are a massive issue still and we have no chance of top 6 with away form as poor as it is. Just 2 away wins all season is very poor and the performances are just as bad.
We need to get some players in this week. Next 6 games are actually decent for us but we have little chance of winning them with what we presently have.
-
Utter, UTTER crap.
-
Who was the Wolves keeper?
Never heard his name mentioned once.
-
Well that was as poor a performance I've seen this season and we've been rubbish on most.
No shots on target? Pathetic.
Amavi. Absolutely garbage.
-
Sign some players. Now.
-
Routine away defeat, and totally expected.
-
No quality in the last third. Desperate for new signings.
-
Utter garbage we have no chance of getting into the play off's. Sick to death of watching the same shit over and over.
-
It looks like Bruce is going to be building for next seasons promotion push.
-
Simple - sign 2 midfielders and a forward this week and we can still turn it around, don't and we are fucked.
-
We're shit ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
Y'see, I was on the match thread and watched the game: I don't subscribe to the "all is shit" view. Today, there was plenty of effort and most of the defending was good.
What we lack is a couple of decent midfielders and a couple of strikers. The latter are in Africa; the former need to be acquired.
Yes, we could do with another right back and a CB but the priority is in midfield.
-
It's the most emotional game for a lot of us for a very long time, and we can't even manage a SHOT ON FUCKING TARGET??? They can all fuck off.
-
Shit. Again. Bruce has to start taking some of the blame here. There's no pattern to our play and the performances aren't improving
Green the only highlight for me
Does look really odd to have let gestede go. Not that I'm a fan but he's a bigger threat than gabby
Think we can give up on promotion this season and build for next
-
Not remotely good enough. Far too much going through Hutton when he can't deliver a ball in to save his life.
-
I think we can safely say we are not going up this season and I won't be starting another match thread
-
Absent some transfer window miracle, no way are we going to be anywhere near the playoffs.
-
Fucking rubbish. Terrible weight and direction of passes, can't even do the basics of hitting the channels and turning them. Not sure why Tshibola was taken off out of any of them really. Just fucking rubbish. How long til Kodjua comes back?
-
Terrible.
-
Got what we deserved, fuck all. Not one attempt that I can remember on target with a piss poor midfield like that we won't be winning many this season unless we buy some quality this window.
-
Is there an airport style detector at BH that drains every signing of talent as soon as we sign them? That's 3 seasons worth of multiple signings that simply go shit as soon as they join. There is a rot somewhere, but I really don't know where.
-
What the fuck do they do all week? Individually and collectively awful. No shape no game plan no tactics
Bruce as much to blame as the pathetic ineptitude of the players.
Total embarrassment
-
Absolutely unacceptable. We're getting worse, that was an absolute disgrace.
-
We are just a jobbing mid table championship team.
Tippy tappy, sideways and backwards passing that allows the opposition to get back into position and make it even harder to break down.
We didn't turn their defenders once, everything was in front of them, which is piss easy to play against.
We are so far off the play offs we have not got a hope in hell this year.
As I said on the match thread, if I was Xia, I wouldn't spend a penny this transfer window on what will be a meaningless plod to the end of the season.
He has wasted enough, don't waste anymore Tony.
-
Never going to score with those two muppets up front. Utter, utter shite. That's the playoffs gone.
-
Horrible.
Ban talk of play offs. In fact it should be filtered every time someone mentions it.
-
is it only managers who can resign or can supporters too? I just don't know how much more of this I can take.
-
We don't have the players, yes but I would have expected more pattern to our play. What's the style we're trying to develop? Such a shite game.
-
Disagree that Amavi was garbage, the real culprits were the forwards, all the midfield and Hutton. Don't understand why Chester has to move across to the left to accommodate Elphick either.
-
Utter shite. They're still struggling with the basics. Clueless.
-
99% of fans can see the problems, especially with Kodjia and Ayew away. But the management can't. Rubbish, no chance of the play offs without new signings, and fast!!
-
Gary Thompson just said he was embarrassed by that performance. I have him about right. Abysmal.
-
Too much ground to make up to get to the play offs this season. I suppose the last five years of unremitting shit is going to take a little longer to overhaul than we'd hoped.
-
Sick to fuckin death of watching this crap. 7 years of misery now, when will it end?
So many players still here who just aren't good enough for the shirt and I can't believe the likes of Bacuna is still at the club. Non stop rubbish from Villa.
Here's a tip, Villa, try getting a couple of players in before you sell a striker even though your 2 other striker have gone off on a month of international duty. Oh and get us a fuckin midfield worthy of this club. No more excuses.
Today feels humiliating. Not a solitary shot.
-
It's the most emotional game for a lot of us for a very long time, and we can't even manage a SHOT ON FUCKING TARGET??? They can all fuck off.
Absolutely. Well said.
That was fucking garbage of the highest order.
-
the money these prats are on and they can not pass to their own players from ten yards.
-
That was a disgrace, absolute shite.
Needs sorting out and quick, that was unacceptable!
-
We don't have the players, yes but I would have expected more pattern to our play. What's the style we're trying to develop? Such a shite game.
How much have we spent and we still don't have the players?!?! someone needs to be held accountable for this shit
-
Well a reality check..we list to a Paul lambert wolves side. We are below Preston and Barnsley in the league. No play off''s for us. We are just a mid table championship team who have wasted millions that most championship teams could only dream of. The money will stop sometime soon and then we will be in the shit with great support and a great stadium that graces the lower levels off the championship.
-
When will this nightmare end? Getting thoroughly outplayed by a Paul Lambert side, the ongoing disaster has taken to parodying itself.
-
Is there an airport style detector at BH that drains every signing of talent as soon as we sign them? That's 3 seasons worth of multiple signings that simply go shit as soon as they join. There is a rot somewhere, but I really don't know where.
The coaching on the training ground.
-
All the set pieces left a lot to be desired too.
-
I'm not one to go over the top but that was woefull.
-
Don't agree with Hutton getting stick. Just lazy to blame him. Thought he was one of the better performers. Problem was with our offensive play.
-
Desperately need some pace in the side and midfielders getting past forwards.
Our pass success rate was just awful. 5 yard passes going into under touch no pressure.
One or two hiding a bit I thought.
-
The quality of the passing really is an absolute embarrassment
-

The coaching on the training ground.
Plus the extra meal they have to eat in the canteen. How else do so many players get so unfit and slow?
-

I'm reminded of QPR when they went down. A team full of journeymen who couldn't give a shit
-
We are a mid table side at best. Don't think I can stand the thought of seeing Hutton and Agbonlahor playing in a side again. McCormack is shocking and can see why Tshibola hasn't been able to break into the side. We really are a poor side.
-
Good. Fucking. Grief.
Again.
-
Don't agree with Hutton getting stick. Just lazy to blame him. Thought he was one of the better performers. Problem was with our offensive play.
Agree.
-
That right there was a Steve Bruce performance, dont attempt to tell me that its to early too judge him, that is no the norm, 1-0 down in a derby and no a worthwhe effort on goal in the second half.
People will continue to support him, he'll be gone at the end of the season and it will be another 6 months or so wasted.
We have gone from a team who attack with Alan Hutton as there main offensive outlet, to a team that defend with Alan Hutton as there main attacking outlet.
We play the worst 'football' in the league bar none, slow, soul sapping, long ball, draining.
His master tactic was to bring Abgonlahor back? Fucking hell!
Appauling tactics from a dead man walking, heres to going through the motions again for the next 6 months.
-
No goals scored in 5 of the last 6 away games. That's dreadfully poor.
-
Firstly, credit to Wolves they had a game plan and they worked very hard for each other. But Lambert with his wild celebrations can kiss my fcukin arse he is still a shit manager and always will be in my book.
Now, as far as we are concerned I just don't know where to start but let's look at how many of those players you would keep.
Johnstone - too early to judge.
Hutton - Get rid.
Amavi - no way a defender. I would drive him to Beijing for £25m.
Chester - yes best player of the season.
Elprick - Get rid.
Bacuna - terrible terrible player - get rid.
Adomah - Don't really see what he brings to be honest, but keep for now.
Jedinak - garbage, get rid.
Tshibola - looks okay, keep for now.
McCormack, fcukin hopeless get rid.
Gabriel. A total joke he has become - get rid.
So with that in mind, is it any wonder we are shit.
-
We can't use the excuse of it's not Bruce's team. It's not Labert's either. Garbage.
-
Hutton was one of the better players. Yes he may lack ability but at least he tries hard.
-
when you start with the likes of the brilliant fast goalscorer agbonlacantfuckingscore , Hutton who likes a cross as much as Dracula , Bacuna who cant pass or create shit and should never been still playing here , Ross fucking ripped off for £14 million and useless Epthick in the starting line up . What hope have we got!!!!!
-
What the fuck do they do all week? Individually and collectively awful. No shape no game plan no tactics
Bruce as much to blame as the pathetic ineptitude of the players.
Total embarrassment
Hard to disagree with a word of that.
-

You know, it's very difficult to disagree with this.
-
Yet another awful, disjointed performance. Players continually giving the ball away, even when the pass is simple and they are under no pressure. Wolves are an average Championship side, so to go there and not even have a shot on goal is woeful.
-
Couldn't get up for the game after Sir Graham passes away.. how pathetic.
We've got an absolute bag of dicks for a midfield along with the most embarrassing forward display of the season.
I agree with the notion that we should ban all playoff/promotion talk. It's not feasible, not realistic.
I just have no sense of perspective for how bad we are. We are categorically bad, but some of the teams above us and Newcastle running away with promotion just leave me in shock.
Supporting this club is unbearable. Just play the kids, at least they'll give a shit.
-
I'd say the biggest problems today were:
1. No discernible pattern of play
2. Gabby no threat
3. Midfield - why the fuck have we gone back to playing Jedinak in a two?
4. Jedinak and bacuna's passing
I thought McCormack and Tshibola were actually both ok if not great
Don't understand the stick for amavi. One of our better players.
Let's see some more of green
Grealish looks badly out of form. For all his faults he normally passes the ball well
-
You can't fault Hutton's effort. However, he probably gets the ball more than any other playing in attacking positions, but either slows down play or fails to put a decent cross in. He defending is just about passable at this level too.
Bacuna, sometimes looks like a footballer, but mostly looks weak and clueless and another one that has one decent pass in twenty.
When will this end.
-

Cant argue. This season has been a disaster since the very start. Bar the defence, I see no positives.
-
How much is it going to cost to buy desire in the January window ?
-
Fucking shit sack the lot off em apart from Chester
-
Buy some f***ing players. Please.
-
How much is it going to cost to buy desire in the January window ?
Why would anyone waste any money now? We shouldn't buy anyone at the moment.
-
I hope to holy god something is going on behind the scenes to sort this shite out, but i wont be holding my breath.
Money needed but my concerns over the leadership is raising its damn ugly head yet again.
-
It's exhausting. We are getting worse by the week. This is just utterly horrendous
-
the team needs Houriane , Lansbury , Bree and Rhodes ASAP.
in fact nick Rhodes would look better up front than Gabby fuckall..
-
Utterly sick of seeing the ball "worked" to Hutton, whereupon he steps inside and promptly sets up the counter attack for the opposition.
I've come to the conclusion that we have a team of mental lightweights...A bit of atmosphere(as in every away venue we roll up at),a few sturdy opposition challenges and bang come the mistakes, the loss of the second ball, the switch off..All of which colluded in their winner. That dictated the entire game.I'm positive we win that on the counter if we get to 70 minutes all square
How many times did a simple 8/9 yard pass end up misplaced? That's not purely technical ability...It's our mental application that still lingers from last seasons utter farce.Despite new personnel and management, the rotting odour still pervails in attitude and belief.Change that or we'll linger down in the depths with the Wolves,Wednesdays and Wigans for the forseeable.
-
Fuck the fuckers
-
Terrible game.
Neither keeper with anything to do. It's very simple. Move off the ball and pass to your team on the front foot. The number of time we pass to each other where the ball is behind them or at them so they can't move forward with their first touch.
The standard of refereeing continues to astound me in this league. How Bacuna was the only player booked? The pull on McCormack the ref can't miss!
-
we have got worse, much worse, since Calderwood came in. Haven't we?
-
Hutton was one of the better players. Yes he may lack ability but at least he tries hard.
I might has well get my boots then Eric. Yes he tries but hes hopeless.
-
It's 4:30am here and once again I do wonder why I bother staying up/waking up for such absymal rubbish.
I tried to go to sleep, but my love for the club runs deeper than bodily functions. I just couldnt resist watching the rest of the match because there's always that tiny bit of hope that something good might happen. Yet it rarely, if ever does.
Pathetic from Bruce and the players. Hated seeing a Lambert team play better than us, look like a team with shape, and a team that knows the basics of the game. Wolves were far better than us.
Someone touched on it during the match thread, and I have to agree. I almost clapped their awareness-why does Hutton get so much of the ball? It's been happening for years now. I fucking hate him as a footballer. Besides his goal against Leicester a few years ago, he has never done anything remotely of note. I'm a massive enemy of his game.
Some of these players need shooting. Elphick never looks comfortable. Never. Slow to the point of almost still. Atrocious business by the club.
Bacuna-an utter twat and never should have played for us again after last season's grinning bullshit. Awful. His passing today was superbly bad.
Amavi-my first time to criticise him, but deary me. A shocking performance. Like Bacuna, his passing shocked me. It was that bad.
Onto Agbonlahor. No. Westwood's name on a team sheet prior to today often led to me simply not bothering to watch the game. It's going to become like that with Shisha c***. If Bruce continues to persevere with him, he deserves all the abuse that his stone age brand of football deserves.
Basically, we aren't only playing poorly, we aren't creating, we have no creativity, our passing isn't crisp, direct or fluid. I hate the way Bruce has us playing. It isn't productive or exciting. It isn't suitable away from home, and it isn't getting the results that we need.
All in all, it's going to be massively difficult to make the playoffs. It still has to be the aim, but pretty much all the teams above us, play better football than us. Where has the exciting football gone in the last 6 years? Or at least more regularly than once every few months.
Can't stand Bruce's football, I refuse to support such a mentality he is installing.
A very very very disgruntled fan.
Last thing-It was an emotional game for us fans today. The players should have gone out there and done Sir Graham proud. But they didn't. Massive massive pricks. They should be ashamed.
-
That's the end of the season for me. Shocking to put in a performance like that in front of 4k away fans on a Saturday night and after SGT passed away.
Results seem to have caught up with our performances. Just what is the point in starting agbonlahor? Bleak midwinter again... 3 games in 2017 all lost and no goals
-
Utterly sick of seeing the ball "worked" to Hutton, whereupon he steps inside and promptly sets up the counter attack for the opposition."..............
This.
I have been saying the same for months. He is at total liability.
-

Yeah. There is no way to reach the playoffs now with the exception of divine intervention.
-
I like bruce but he is talking the talk and walking backwards
why do we look unfit?
why do we look unbalanced?
why play flabby?
what is our style of play?
what do you do at bodymoor heath?
Why so late making changes?
20 points off top spot is a fucking disgrace and everyone at the club needs to hang their heads in shame
That includes dr tony for appointing rdm, turning down 25 million for amavi, saying 3 in this window would be okay and sanctioning the purchase of a fat 30 year old that we will get fuck all back on and saying that in 5 years we will be in the champions league
-
Do we employ "fitness experts" at the Club?
I was told by an employee back in 2015 that all players were on a strict 8% body fat.
Why do so many players become, unfit, slow, overweight or just all three?
-
Shed some tears over Sir Graham this morning reading some of the examples of his great qualities as a man and a football man.
Watching the clips from when he was our manager , then watching the woeful excuse for a team we just saw against Wolves and my sadness has deepened to a very low level as we are also looking at the demise of our great club.
Feeling very low at the moment.
-
Utterly sick of seeing the ball "worked" to Hutton, whereupon he steps inside and promptly sets up the counter attack for the opposition."..............
This.
I have been saying the same for months. He is at total liability.
Then why is the tactic to work the ball towards Hutton? comes from above
-
Some of us think there's no such thing as the Villa disease, but I'm not so sure about that. Time and time again, we look like eleven introverts who have only just met each other for the first time. Our play is like a series of fumbled introductions and clumsy small talk. We're nervous, frightened and awkward the moment we leave the cosy confines of Bodymoor Heath. Oh well, they can all get under the blanket and revert to the foetal position for another week.
-
We are like a very shit Arsenal. Pass pass pass trying to run the ball into the net. Why didn't Hutton shoot in the last minute. ????????
-
When is Kodjia back?
-
I still believe in Bruce. We bought terribly this summer. We bought individuals who aren't gelling and many are total drama queens. We must stick with Bruce.
We desperately need a new midfield. I reckon Bruce is demanding more but isn't getting it. Grealish/adomah/ bacuna what's between the ears. McCormack always moaning. As a team on the pitch they are clueless they lack heart and desire.
For me we have to move the ball much much quicker with a tempo.
The defence have to step up too push the team forward
We need improvements all over the pitch!
We need another season in this league we are miles away from the playoffs
-
I've learned to not get too upset anymore. But we're miles off and today was the low point. Beaten by a Lambert side.
-
How much is it going to cost to buy desire in the January window ?
Why would anyone waste any money now? We shouldn't buy anyone at the moment.
Yes we bloody well should because if we don't get a decent midfield we will be will only go one way in the table and it isn't up.
-
Sorry mr Bruce,
You put that team out.
What the fuck were the tactics ?
Not a fucking shot on goal !!!
We sell a Centre forward without replacing him, as our two other forwards go to CAF.
I came home from holiday a day early not to miss this shit.
Why after 60 years do I still keep doing this to myself ?
fuck the lot of them.
-
I have to say, the performances have been even worse since Calderwood arrived.
Brighton away, superb performance - then he came and there hasn't been a thing since.
Maybe coincidence, I'm not sure.
-
You lot are lucky - I've got to go to work in Wolverhampton on Monday morning.
-
Here they all come....
-
We are like a very shit Arsenal. Pass pass pass trying to run the ball into the net. Why didn't Hutton shoot in the last minute. ????????
I cant really see any similarities at all
I don't recognise the suggestion we just pass the ball endlessly trying to score the perfect goal
-
You lot are lucky - I've got to go to work in Wolverhampton on Monday morning.
At least you won't be able to understand them!!
-
Congratulations to Tony Daley, one team on that pitch was physically fit, mobile & hunted in packs - we are so slow, weak & immobile & the two up front offered nothing - if we have fitness coaches I hope they are ashamed of that posey performance & runs the legs off them for the next week
-
Here they all come....
Huff and Puff,Which two is he on about?
-
Steve Bruce ..This is the greatest ever club you will ever manage in your life , and you know this. So make the most of this precious time here and do your up most up to get us back where we belong.
so for a start..
stop playing the fuckwits who were useless last season and got us in this shit in the first place . They are not good enough , they are mid table to lower table championship rubbish.
Please stop it and sort it quick...
-
Ho hum we fucking go again.
-

But neither are most the shite bought in the summer.
-
recurring theme??
-
I can only imagine Bruce was told he would have to sell before he could buy. Even then the timing of the Gestede sale is quite astoundingly stupid. Agree the sale on the basis he moves when we have a replacement, or when the ACON players return. Perhaps a sign that we are still a basket case run by fools.
For all RDM's faults, the football has got much worse under Bruce, and our away form has probably got worse if anything. Even at home we're scraping results rather than looking convincing. Hugely disappointed with his efforts so far.
-
I was looking forward to this season, a season we were actually trying to achieve something, a season to wipe the slate clean from the previous 6 years of hell and the new Aston Villa can start now.
I was legitimarely excited for the first few games kicking every ball on the edge of ny seat just like the old days, after 5 games of it I thought hmmmm I'm losing heart and belief already with this shit, now after 26 games I feel exactly as I did the previous 6 years......utter utter garbage and I don't really care if I even go to the games or watch them anymore nevermind if we win or lose......SIMPLY HAD ENOUGH!!!
-
Congratulations to Tony Daley, one team on that pitch was physically fit, mobile & hunted in packs - we are so slow, weak & immobile & the two up front offered nothing - if we have fitness coaches I hope they are ashamed of that posey performance & runs the legs off them for the next week
Totally agree
being fit should be the easiest thing to sort but then again we managed to overlook that one of our players got 2 stone overweight during the season and 3 years to work out pointy cant take corners
I think players putting their boots on the right feet is seen as an achievement
-
An embarrassing performance.
That midfield is atrocious. The planning for this window has sent us slip a further 3 points off 6th.
No urgency, no creativity, absolute abomination.
-

I dont want to see Gabby playing ever again
and the likes of Bacuna and Hutton and the perseverance of Westwood , as you know he will be back next game.
-
What the utter fuck has happened to Jedinak?
-
WE DIDN'T REGISTER A SHOT
-

Still not sure why there is complaints about Gestede. Apart from the odd rare goal, he contributes fuck all just like the rest of them. at least we got something for him which in itself is incredible.
-
Shocking and the fat Scotsman was even worse than that the fat pudding
-
What the utter fuck has happened to Jedinak?
my palace season ticket holder mate reckons Big Sam wanted him back ...
-
utter crap bye brucie no tactics sorry
-
Shocking and the fat Scotsman was even worse than that the fat pudding
Gabby was much worse in my view
-

I think If RHM hadnt been a muppet , it would not have looked a bad decision as he might have got some game time.
£6 million is to good to turn down,
-
I'm just so fucking tired of this ineptitude. We even have a manager now who has multiple promotions, a caring owner who has pumped millions into the club and we are back to square one looking not too dissimilar to the useless wasters who were relegated. I want to not care so badly.
-
The question that everyone is asking is why sell Gestede at the start of trading knowing that your top scorer could be away for a month we were already struggling up front so why not if you have to sell him wait until later in the month. It smells of incompetence.
No pattern to our play, people ask why Hutton gets so much of the ball it's simply that the opposition know he's shit and leave him space, how many times do you see Amavi wide open? that's because he can be dangerous going forward so they keep it tight on his flank.
Before today I still thought we had a chance at play offs but this performance was as bad as we have seen Bruce continuing to play Gabby is a statement on the way mediocrity has been allowed to fester and Bruce has let us all down badly by bringing him back.
-
The question that everyone is asking is why sell Gestede at the start of trading knowing that your top scorer could be away for a month we were already struggling up front so why not if you have to sell him wait until later in the month.
Gestede isn't good.
-
Its so fucking easy to play againat us that even Paul Lambert knew what to do, sit back, give us possesion, wait for us to give it to hutton so we lose it......... counter!
-
Callum Robinson 7 goals and top scorer for Preston, Gabby zero goals and shit. I thought at the time it was a stupid mistake to jettison Robinson so quickly. Poor decision making by so called experts once again.
-
Not remotely good enough. Far too much going through Hutton when he can't deliver a ball in to save his life.
Good point, always offers himself going forward but gives the ball away constantly so its pointless passing to him. Doesn't show the same desire chasing back to his own goal I've noticed. Thought we dominated the most of a very average game, our keeper handed them their goal when they were on top, McCormack missed a sitter to equalise.
Two very poor sides. Bacuna was probably our best but is not a centre midfielder and struggled to keep us playing, instead we resorted to a lot of long balls which we got zero return from. Like at Cardiff, we huffed and puffed but precious little guile to fashion genuine chances and the front two were shite. McCormack breathing out his hole after 70 mins. Grealish appalling again though couldn't understand him on right and Green on left.
-
I want Bruce to be given time to sort this out including two transfer windows. However, if the fans turn against him he will only have himself to blame for persisting in an egotistical fashion to pick utter fcukin wasted of skin like Agbon la fcukin Hor.
Good luck selling tickets for the rest of the season Villa.

I'm just so fucking tired of this ineptitude. We even have a manager now who has multiple promotions, a caring owner who has pumped millions into the club and we are back to square one looking not too dissimilar to the useless wasters who were relegated. I want to not care so badly.

I agree but he was a different option up front, what's the use of crossing the ball with the midgets we have playing up front.

Lambert can go forth and shaft himself sideways with his mindless aftermatch drivel. I've never seen him display any energy like the final whistle. He used to sit on the bench mumbling under his breath about the Dortmund press, going again and how excellent Lerners money was. If he had any class he would have resigned or called Lerner's whole lack of duty out.He milked us for the shilling. He is a Grade 1 rocket polisher.
On a week when I'm reminded of the attributes, ability and decorum of my favourite manager whom would have never had that approach...I'm reminded of the opposite end of the scale and ability as well..And I include both of the Mc's in that. The whole rotten, defeatist denial and attitude we currently swim in,on the pitch and BMH,was amplified and allowed to mutate to nuclear levels on Lamberts watch.I hope that champagne and celebratory mars bar chokes him.
-
That right there was a Steve Bruce performance, dont attempt to tell me that its to early too judge him, that is no the norm, 1-0 down in a derby and no a worthwhe effort on goal in the second half.
You know, it's very difficult to disagree with this.
This!!

Great game, really enjoyed it despite how cold it was. Every player committed to the cause from the first minute to the last. Players and fans as one as they fight for promotion. Final score Hinckley 1-2 Bromsgrove as we stay top and are the highest ranked side in the country to still be unbeaten.

This too!
-
I like bruce but he is talking the talk and walking backwards
why do we look unfit?
why do we look unbalanced?
why play flabby?
what is our style of play?
what do you do at bodymoor heath?
Why so late making changes?
20 points off top spot is a fucking disgrace and everyone at the club needs to hang their heads in shame
That includes dr tony for appointing rdm, turning down 25 million for amavi, saying 3 in this window would be okay and sanctioning the purchase of a fat 30 year old that we will get fuck all back on and saying that in 5 years we will be in the champions league
[/quote
and this!!
-
Sorry mr Bruce,
You put that team out.
And this!!

Time will tell
40 million parachute money this season
33 next
14 the season after
Next season will see a drop in attendances and commercial revenue
Fuck me good luck in trying to attract players to come to us next season

Steve Bruce ..This is the greatest ever club you will ever manage in your life , and you know this. So make the most of this precious time here and do your up most up to get us back where we belong.
so for a start..
stop playing the fuckwits who were useless last season and got us in this shit in the first place . They are not good enough , they are mid table to lower table championship rubbish.
Please stop it and sort it quick...
Shirley it's not about Bruce, but the shite he's inherited from those that have gone before him?! There's evidently no 'quick fix' in the offing, so it's gonna take a good close-season of bringing in quality for dross: and organising a team that has the quality & depth to mount a proper promotion challenge. Frankly. I'm just thankful that we now have a manager that actually HAS a clue; and one that is experienced enough to prevent our catastrophic drop through the divisions. Things could be a lot better, but they could be a whole lot worse. Time needs to be our friend now - and not our enemy.

Agnonlahor up front, Jedinak in a two, 3rd worst goal scorers in the second division, by far the worst football in the league...... Thank fuck we have somebody who 'has a clue' though.

I feel a bit sorry for Hutton. I think he's badly let down by our midfield sometimes; often he gets forward but then with no options available he has to do something that isn't in his game and we lose it. Again, I have to question the coaching - why has no one brought this up? Maybe they have but our lot are so utterly shite they can't manage it.
-
Simple five yard passes. When did they go out of fashion? Hold-up play - when did that become taboo at B6? I don't see anything to hang onto nowadays; it used to be that we'd get taken over and spend a load of money to stop us having to tolerate abysmal football. Well, that happened and Villa are still shit. It strikes me as entirely possible I'll spend the majority of my life watching this version of Aston Villa than the one I saw as a child.

That really is such complete nonsense.
-
Hutton -garbage
Bacuna anonymous
McCormick- complete waste of space, missed a sitter.
Gabby-totally pointless.
Adomah- lightweight.
Tish - see Bacuna.
Losing to Paul Lambert Wolves without a shot on target, disgraceful.
You can not achieve anything with so many poor players.
Our decline continues.
-
One of the most depressing things was that you knew as soon as we went a goal down there was no way we'd ever win the game.
-

Gestede isn't good.
He can still be a good impact sub at this level as he proved in his last Leeds game.
Would you really want a kid coming on like Davis instead of Gestede when we're losing.
No idea what we were thinking selling Rudy so early in the window.
-

Gabriel Agbonlahor has already scored his last goal in league football. Yet we continue to play him. Joke.
-
I still believe in Bruce.
This is my thinking at the moment. In spite of our spending there are a lot of clubs in this league with better players than us. We've managed to get points when we've been second best, which is most games.I think Bruce owes it to Tony to give the existing players one last go before writing them off even though he probably knows they are not up to the job.
-
He took over 8 months ago ffs!!
-
Rudy was as bad as the rest of them. Passionless wastrels. So many poor players.
-

I have a feeling he'll score another for us (probably against SHA) but beggars belief after all that's happened he's back to starting week in week out for us.

I agree with this partially but surely Bruce must take a massive slice of the blame for the tactics?? He is employing. We look absolutely dire. Wasn't one of the arguments for Bruce that he would get better performance from the players he inherited??. This clearly isn't the case

The message it sends to the young players and fans of the club is awful.
I'm always pissed off when we lose but losing to a team managed by that dumb, lying twat whose almost as culpable as Lerner for where we find ourselves.......... FFS Vila.
-
A lot of people, including myself, have commented that we have become poorer since Calderwood arrived. Since then, we seem to always go out for a 0-0 draw with no real attacking intent. We must now be a main contender for least shots on target. Even today, there were times that a player was on the edge of their box but was always looking to pass rather than shoot, a real sign of lack of confidence.
On a lighter note, where are the nearly 50% of our pollsters that thought we were going to win this match as I don't see many positive comments!!! No doubt, just because we are at home next week at least 70% will have us down to win. Maybe I've been watching a different team from them.
-
Just a thought - has our reversion to a four man midfield coincided with calderwood?
Brighton play that way
Anyway, it isn't working

Hutton isn't the greatest of players but my god he bloody puts his heart and soul into his performances. If the rest of the squad did last the couple of seasons we would haven't been relegated.

Now Gestede isn't at Villa all of a sudden he becomes indispensable.
I'm amazed we got any money for him.

In slightly brighter news, Green looked decent and injected a bit of pace into the attack.

Evening.
Of course I watched it...enduring the same pain as all of us..... but have taken so long to read all the adverse comments and re-watch the post-match interview with SB that I means I just caught up with TonyD's comments.
I am with him, in as much as we have always had " iffy " full backs or other defenders. But at least Hutton appears passionate about wanting to make things happen. And the big difference is really that we do not have a single Midfielder of the quality we long-standing (me 56 yrs) Villa fans are used. Names that have you slobbering with desire to have only one of their esteemed legs playing now......including Sid, Brian, Platty, Merse, etc, etc that could take a bad pass and turn it into a bit of magic. ( Magic Merse geddit ? ) WE HAVE NO MIDFIELDERS for the out-ball, for the fetching and carrying, for the quick one-two out of defence, for the incisive defence-splitting, goal-making creative pass.......or even to get a poor player like Hutton off the hook.
This is a transitional phase, the likes of which we haven't seen in a long time (notably relegation to Div 3 ! OMG )
Steve Bruce recognises this, let's hope he is not over-awed by it and can get the bricks in place to build a new side that works together like a team and isn't a hotch-potch of mis-matched players who still expect another to read their mind when they don't even know what they should be doing, themselves. And then look disdainfully at the poor gut who didn't get it.
You are right about the training though.
Both fitness training, skills training AND tactical training appear to be woefully missing.....or the players don't understand what their role is....and that's inexcusable for £25k per week !
-
How come Andre green got more crosses in in twenty minutes than adomah grealish bacuna put together
He showed what a winger does he must start next week
Just two crosses, let's not get ahead of ourselves re Green
Zero movement in the box anyway and where is our number 8 type midfielder ala Platt or Lampard driving into the box with a late run. Our team looks desperately coached.
From the 50m spent only Kodjia and Chester seem any value thus far, Elphick is finished as today confirmed, Jedinak not far off gone and McCormack is diabolical.
-
Looking forward to the game all week and they serve this shit up. I was already upset that GT passed and the tributes that flowed.
Rely Junior has passed to me that onside:
-These are not Bruce's signings
-The first XI are new to each other unlike Brighton, Leeds and Newcastles who have been together longer
-Unfortunate that DeLaet is out for the season and Hutton wouldn't have a got a look in
-Unfortunate that we almost got shot of Westwood but Dyche came to his senses
-The 11 game head start to our rivals
-More incentive from other teams to beat us for who we are
Back to this 'game' and in no particular order of shitness out of ten:
Bruce - Right royally fucked up with his selection, tactics and motivation 9/10
Johnson - only positive and good catches 1/10
Elphck - Cherries can't believe their luck 8/10
Chester - Not a lot wrong and stares into the sky at the ineptitude around 2/10
Amavi - The run and cross which McCordick should have buried was a moment of quality. That moment only. Perhaps a run in left side midfield ala Staunton and Barry? 7/10
Dracula - Repeatedly a dangerous ball in a dangerous position and you think why cant he cross? He's supposed to be a professional footballer for fucks sake 9/10
Jedinak - Is that heavy beard slowing him down? Looked dead on 70mins and is of no use from then.
Tshibola - We've been crying out for Westwood to be dropped, we get our wish and he's functional at best but offers little creativity or driving forward. Going to take time to bed in...26 games played.
5/10
Bacuna - Doesn't look fit or good enough 9/10
Adomah - Looks fucked off he ain't been picked for AN Cup so is stropping his way thru games 7/10
Flabby - 10/10 congratulations! Man of the match for the shitness. Bruce has to play him when fit as it's a condition of his contract, why would it be otherwise ?
McCormack - We've had our pants pulled down over his price, looks overweight and uninterested 9/10.
Jack - Played crap 7/10
Andre & Davis - Yay products of our academy coming through 1/10
My team is officially a shit mid table 2nd division side while Spuds and Toffees are light years away.
Promotion via 6th place scraped and penalty shoot out in May 2018 is what I'm expecting.
-
Don't hold your breath, Remy -or Remy Jnr - because THIS team isn't going to the playoffs, let alone the Final.

More points per game than his predecessor? Let's face it the squad is midtable at best and that's what Bruce has achieved regardless of performances
-
RDM was sacked for 10 points in 10 games and a cup defeat. If you take our last 10 league games Bruce has got 14 points and a cup defeat. The form when he arrived is looking more and more like a honeymoon period and yet some people still won't criticise him for putting out a side with no shape, no technique and no confidence.
Again today my biggest problem was that we were just far too deep all the time. Under RDM there was a real belief that we were going to give someone a real battering and a hope that it'd be the turning point where the squad realised they could do better. Under Bruce I have no belief that we'll score more than 1 and I only really expect us to make chances from free kicks and corners. As soon as we conceded I was resigned to a point at best because he just doesn't know how to get a team attacking with any fluency.

Im looking forward to watching Johnson and Robinson next week proving a point - cant wait
Lovely goal from Robinson today, proper centre forward play.

I can't link to his comments but what Bruce has said wouldn't be out of place in this thread.
At least he see's it. Let's hope he does something about it.
He talks the talk but then does fuck all about it
compare the wolves game when he came in and compare todays wolves game and what the improvement has been
answers on the back of a stamp written in marker pen
More points per game than his predecessor? Let's face it the squad is midtable at best and that's what Bruce has achieved regardless of performances
Whoppee do
I stand by the point that we have made zero improvement under bruce
blackburn, wigan and burton at home where we huffed and puffed and were lucky to get 9 points against teams in the bottom 5
Lets see how we fare against teams in the top ten before we gush over his points per game ratio
-
That was embarrassing, pathetic, desperately poor. Worst thing for me is it was predictable, I said we'd lose 1-0 and knew nobody would score for us. We think we can get promoted with Fat Gabby waddling about up front? Laughable.
Our away record and style of play is killing our away support. Numbers have been fantastic but so many games this season our actual support has been crap; Blues, Cardiff, today to name a few. I can understand that it's hard to sing when you're watching that garbage every week but we used to pride ourselves that we sang no matter what, now we're like an Everton or Liverpool who only sing when we're winning. Wolves fans are laughing more at how crap our fans were more than how crap our team was.

Why not take his last 15 games in which he's taken 25 points? Honeymoon period don't count? Cup loss to spurs away compared to Luton away.
Performances decidedly average I agree but we've at least shown some fighting spirit and salvaged points from losing positions. It's a poor squad. I'm confident SB will get us back with a chance to build a team

Let's see how we fare when he's had chance to brung a few players in before we start calling for our 6th manager in 18 months.

Attended game. Expected little (especially after Cardiff performance and no outfield incomings) and got little. Woeful performance!!
Johnstone-appears dominating, had little to do.
Hutton-poor ability, but has heart and attempts to drive forward
Amavi- awful first half except cross, not much of an improvement 2nd half
Chester-adequate today
Elphick- Did ok, but Baker is preferable
Jedinak-poor today. I think I've sussed him out. All presence and headers but no substance. Cannot direct a header or pass to a teammate.
Tishbola-Did ok. I don't understand why he was substituted in favour of bacuna pushing infield.
Adomah-adequate.Ive seen him play better, usually with Kodjia in the team.
McCormack-looked better than he did vs Cardiff. Should have scored with header. £12m championship players should be putting those chances away.
In my view we started the game with 9 players. After their poor performances and attitudes last season, both agbonlahor and bacuna should be nowhere near the 1st team this season. While we persist with last season's failures we will continue to struggle.
Big respect to both sets of fans for GT's tribute. Very moving!

We've got the right man for the job but an absolute car crash of a squad
We need another 2 transfer windows to sort this shit out
-
Midfield was shocking as usual. No skill, creativity or vision. I can't believe we're halfway through the window without signing any midfielders. You would think it is such an obvious concern he would have had bids lined up from Jan 1st. Play-offs out of the window now. Need to start building a plan and style of play for next.
-

The fact anyone goes to the aways is a miracle. Strange to criticise them even if youre one yourself. The noise of the away support is the least of our problems

Not long in from the game and not read the thread but here's my ramblings...
Firstly, every man jack and his son knew that we wouldn't score today...we managed to play with two false number 9's, which is a first. Every forward ball was hit high and long, and neither Gabby or Ross can jump over a matchbox; end result being loss of possession and them breaking at pace (whatever that is). We've managed to make Gestede look desirable by playing like this.
Adomah seems incapable of beating his man, getting to the byline and cutting the ball back. This is how McCormack got many of his goals - pulling away from his marker in the box from the kind of passes we don't create.
Where is the creativity in that midfield? I'll tell you - there is zero. All Wolves had to do was sit deep and we played pass after pass sideways and backwards without a single ounce of creativity or ability to play an incisive pass.
Until we overhaul that midfield, we won't improve. Teams will just employ the same tactics as Wolves did and will get the same result. I heard someone say that we are yet to score a goal in 2017 - if true then it tells you everything you need to know about the current state of our team.
Bruce has a massive fortnight ahead of him. Let's hope he can get what we so desperately need.
-
Depressing day all round. I had a bad feeling about today's match but still never expected anything quite that bad. Embarrassing performance.
I just can't believe that after everything that's gone on we still have Hutton, Gabby and Bacuna starting. For fucks sake.
I don't like knocking our fans but that was the quietest we've been in years. And add in the two shit-faced arseholes behind me plus Villa fans trying to fight each other at the station after the game, and you wonder why you bother.
-

Im not calling for his head, merely stating that he talks shit and needs to be questioned and held to account
-
Another woeful performance only Chester and maybe Hutton came out with any credit,I agree its not been great under Bruce but lets give him a couple of transfer windows
to sign his own players before we start shouting to get rid.
-
Good
points point - Amavi's run and cross.
Funny point - watching Ross try to sprint after the ball against their fullback. Me and the bloke next to me burst out laughing
Bad points - everything else
-
Got to say Hutton was one of the best Villa Performers out there today.
Disappointed with Johnstone, 3 mistakes in the match one leading to the goal not helped by our left back giving up the chase.
Would hate to be Steve Bruce right now, where does he start to put things right?
-
Amavi was poor, but he provided the only moment of quality we managed.
-
Im not calling for his head, merely stating that he talks shit and needs to be questioned and held to account
When you say he 'talks shit', can you give some examples?
Because almost everything he says (bar perhaps about Gabby) is more or less what we say on here. If anything, it's the solving of the problems he talks about that is the issue, not what he says.
-

Gary Monk took over a fairly pathetic set up and has found a way to fix that without a transfer window. Agree that the relegated squad was dire but since then we have spent 50 Million.
-

That McCormack 'sprint' was as embarrassing as it was comical. He moved about as fast as someone running with their pants around their ankles in a swimming pool. Which reminds me of a story...

Remember when we used to have central midfielders who ran forward with the ball and took people on?
-
My first game at Villa Park was just over 50 years ago. In all of those years I cannot remember wanting a game to be over after 70 minutes when we were trailing by a single goal, but I did this evening.
I never thought that we would be promoted this season, but I wasn't expecting this.
-
What happened to the Villa who dominated away at Brighton a couple of months ago? We looked really good that night.
-
Remember when we used to have central midfielders who ran forward with the ball and took people on?
It's been bloody years since we had midfielders like that.
-
Another shocking performance, but in no way do I blame Bruce. Our squad is appalling and the blame for that lies with Lerner, Lambert, Riley and RDM.
Given time Bruce will sort this out, I am certain of that.
-

He talks shit because he says the right things but them does fuck all about it
we huffed and puffed - so get the fuckers fit and have some kind of strategy
Ross is here to score goals - really? Get the twat fit then
The performance and application against norwich was poor and unacceptable - just like cardiff and wolves then
-
McCormack fucked up the one chance we made today. 90+ minutes of football and we created just the one chance. That's the root of our problems really, we just don't create enough. The midfield is beyond a joke. For the love of god sort it out for once and all, Villa.
-
Remember when we used to have central midfielders who ran forward with the ball and took people on?
It's been bloody years since we had midfielders like that.
Even when we had Barry I used to bang on about not having a midfielder scoring a header in the fashion of Platt or Taylor. In fact Barry, great payer that he was, missed bagloads. At least he was there to fuck them up, though.
The driving runs of Dennis Mortimer are a distant memory.
-
I like Bruce but there comes a time when him talking sense needs to be transitioned into performances on the pitch and at the moment we looks as bad, if not worse than we did under RDM. Dreading the rest of the season tbh.
-
We may have spent £50m but as SB says we have bought players for the sake of buying them that are no improvement on what we already have then the sum spent is an irrelevance.
All that it has done is make solving the problem harder for SB since he has to get rid of much more dross before an improvement will be seen.
Anyone expecting our problems to be solved in one mid season transfer window is going to be disappointed.

Dare I say it, Delph.

Apart from probably 2-3 players I don't think the rest have the quality to be in a top 6 championship side. As for the premiership. ..ha ha

Needs to spend the rest of the season piecing together a side that can win matches at this level with a view to having a real go at it next season. I want to see some of the young players given a chance and serial wasters finally shifted out.
-
From a logical viewpoint Ross McCormack can't be as terrible a striker as we've seen. He's scored far too many at this level for that to happen. So while Kodjia isn't around, Bruce has to treat him as the alpha striker and find a way to make him tick. I think we're all in agreement that long ball isn't really his thing. As for his partner, I'm one hundred percent sure it should be anybody but Agbonlahor. I think Hepburn-Murphy is being badly advised but I would rather see what he's got against the crappy Championship defences we face than know for certain Agbonlahor will be losing foot races to the likes of Stearman.

-
Also is it me or do other teams even if it's at vp or away just seem to want it more than us
The 50-50s the second ball the knock downs etc etc
Players I have never even heard of before this season just seem to look so much better than anything we have
-
I agree, but I don't know how helpful McCormack is being in that regard. His movement is pedestrian at best.

This is because we play like a team that don't know each other.
-
Even southern rail have much better strikers than us
-
Shit. Again. Bruce has to start taking some of the blame here. There's no pattern to our play and the performances aren't improving
Green the only highlight for me
Does look really odd to have let gestede go. Not that I'm a fan but he's a bigger threat than gabby
Think we can give up on promotion this season and build for next
Yes I think.... Getting our money back on Gestede ( or thereabouts) was a major result cus he was blatantly shite
-
Not remotely good enough. Far too much going through Hutton when he can't deliver a ball in to save his life.
Because he is the only one offering himself....enough of the witch hunt on him... Yes he's crap but we have no better and he doesn't hide for all the stick he gets

And the "now" manager has to deal with that and he has 3 weeks left to do it...
-
Totally underwhelmed by his appointment...but he has to be given time. He has inherited the worst Villa team in living memory as well as terrible DiMatteo signings. Agree though that McCormack's fitness is on his watch, and he keeps picking Agbonlahor, but he knows what he's doing. I'll judge him at season's end, we'll still be in this division, but we'll be in a better position to pass judgement. The malaise has to stop sometime, it's getting ridiculous now, but I do think we've bottomed out (even allowing for today's atrocity).
On another note, I watched Alexi Sanchez throw a strop today because he was taken off. That kind of passion is foreign to me these days because of the gutless, useless mercenaries we've had these last few years. I'd even settle for that now.
-
I agree, but I don't know how helpful McCormack is being in that regard. His movement is pedestrian at best.
It's a vicious circle. Gabby and McCormack weigh 60 stone combined and have got the movement of two oil tankers, but none of our midfielders can pass a ball so it doesn't matter.
Pinning our hopes on Grealish coming on to save us. Let's face it, he's a bit shit. Pull your socks up and stop gliding about the pitch because you've achieved nothing and done nothing. Arguably the most overrated player I've seen.
-
I think with the right system McCormack would be ok. He was trying to find space and move off the ball, but the others weren't reading it.
-

I think good players stand out in a poor team and great ones control games.....saddle for all the hype Grealish has never done either of these......a lovely player with the ball at his feet but so are hundreds of other players. He's had 5 managers ( mostly shite I must admit) that I recall and none have played him regularly.....
-

Too clever for the players around him perhaps??
-
I am fed up with fans saying this player or that player at least tries. There should be no sympathy in this game. If you are not good enough to do the things you need to do in your position, you shouldn't be in the team. Likewise, Bruce has been saying similar things about certain players putting effort in but I am not seeing good performances from this players, only mediocre at best.
Bruce has come out a couple of times and said that we will only bring in players that will improve the side. Well, in my opinion, there are a number of positions that wouldn't take much to bring in players that would be a distinct improvement to the team.
I thought playing four midfield players strung out across the middle with the wide players stuck to the touchline had gone out with the dark ages. Trying to use your fullbacks to create from wide positions just magnifies the error of this system. Bacuna had a couple of decent games when he came back in as his energy added to the midfield but to play him wide left when he is so one-footed, doesn't give him a chance and becomes a liability to the team at times when he has to turn inside.
Playing Bacuna and Adamoh wide means that neither Jedinak of Tshibola can push forward through the middle as neither of the wide players are strong enough to drop inside to cover.
Quite a few have mentioned that performances have gone down since Calderwood arrived but I think this is just coincidence. The performances have got worse the more Agbonlahor has appeared. To the point where when he has started, we have looked terrible up front. If you look at the replay of RM's miss, just look how far Agbonlahor was behind play. Considering how far Amarvi ran with the ball before crossing, there is no excuse for him being so far behind play.
To compete in the middle of the field, we have to go back to three players in there and if Bruce wants us to create more, he has to go with a naturally wide player further forward supporting two players up front, one of which needs to have very good movement.
Bruce talks about not spending money for the sake of spending and I agree with this but he should be looking to use loans to fill key positions until the end of the season. We are desperate for a strong central striker that can hold the play up. There must be someone out there that we could get in on loan without having to spend a lot of money when promotion is far from certain.
I want to give Bruce time as we need stability but his apparent stubbornness is getting to me.
-
Is there a more boring team in the four divisions to watch away from home than us?
Apart from the second half at Brighton the football we've played away under Bruce has been about as dull as one of our sponsor's products.
It's not exactly inspiring to watch at home either but at least we do create the odd chance and even score some goals.
-
I have always acknowledged Hutton's endeavour but it is no coincidence why he gets a lot of space. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I think wingers with speed and the ability to dribble, full backs who's first priority is to defend a midfielder that can pass forward to teammates on a regular basis and a centre forward who is big enough and strong enough to frighten defenders is key to a good side. We have non of the above.
-
Lambert can go forth and shaft himself sideways with his mindless aftermatch drivel.
Totally agree. Fucking ****** is Lambert. My least favourite Villa manager. Ever.
-
Hutton -garbage
Bacuna anonymous
McCormick- complete waste of space, missed a sitter.
Gabby-totally pointless.
Adomah- lightweight.
Tish - see Bacuna.
Losing to Paul Lambert Wolves without a shot on target, disgraceful.
You can not achieve anything with so many poor players.
Our decline continues.
Spot on.

Second only to DOL but ahead of Billy McNeill in the top 3 least favourite stakes for me.
He should be totally embarrassed by his tenure as Villa manager. He isn't though which tells you an awful lot about the man.
-
Sounds like it was a bit of a car crash, I've not seen it.
What kind of tribute did Sir Graham get?
-
Didn't watch the game, don't doubt everyone here saying it was shit, but I don't think I'm going to be convinced by the suggestions that happily accepting our money back on Gestede was anything other than a good move - we've a convincing body of evidence of his inability to do much whenever he's starting a game
-
I personally thought that Hutton was the best player on our side.....which doesn't say much does it, as said before he makes himself available, which he has to because our only outlet are on the wings, the right being the favourable option. This is because the midfield is basically shit, I always thought that if you go FORWARD from midfield the defence are on the retreat and you get penetration. Too many times I find myself shouting 'go fu**ing forward you tossers'. We all know this, why doesn't some bloke earning 25 grand a week know this as well..I can't get my breath at how less than average we are.
-
And....is it only me that feels like I want to smash flabby right in the mush every time his face is shown on the box?
-
One thing Bruce seems to have in common with Taylor is that he is brutally honest when things are shit. I suppose that is a lot easier when you're talking about a team where none of the signings are yours. But defeat must still sting like hell. Especially against the dog heads.
Not sure about everyone else, but I've given up on promotion this season. We don't deserve it, from the results alone. We've spent a lot and bought shit really. Let's see what Bruce can bring in at the end of the season.
-
And....is it only me that feels like I want to smash flabby right in the mush every time his face is shown on the box?
Trust me, it's not just you!
-
Just read something along the lines of Gestede has now played in 32 consecutive PL games and lost them all. Whilst an immediate replacement would have been nice - anything is better than Gabflab leading the line - getting our money back was good business.
-
Has anybody any suggestions as to who we can play on the forward line that doesn't include Gabby? if we have to go through the next three or four games with that line up we will probably lose them all or draw at best because we most certainly won't score ourselves. I believe Green has to be given a start just to see what he has to offer after that I'm at a total loss.

Adomah and Green/Grealish(preferably Green due to his pace and trickery) either side of McCormack for me.
McCormack would do better with intelligent players up next to and around him. Not a whale from Erdington pretending to be a human being/footballer.
-
Utter Fucking garbage I was so angry last night and I'm still fucked off this morning plus points. Chester..Elphick was better the end. Our midfield is fucking atrocious attack is atrocious.
We're going to be stuck in this division. Can't blame Bruce but just look at the bench our squad is weak need to get a forward and a fee midfielder because as it is it's just a joke
-
I'd like to see the forward that could score with our current midfield providing zero service when they are not handing possesion back to the oppoition.

I feel exactly the same, mate. The crap, dull performances are never ending.
-
I really sticks in my throat that we lost to a team managed by Lambert too, for all the damage that bozo did.

Last night was more like August 1987 Villa than January 1988 Villa.

Kodjia most of the time so far

Has anybody any suggestions as to who we can play on the forward line that doesn't include Gabby? if we have to go through the next three or four games with that line up we will probably lose them all or draw at best because we most certainly won't score ourselves. I believe Green has to be given a start just to see what he has to offer after that I'm at a total loss.
May as well throw the kids in now, Davis, RHM, Green, even McKirdy. Absolutely nothing to lose and may even uncover a future star
-
Any of Green, RHM or Davis would be preferable to Abgonlahor. I'm sick and tired of seeing him in our team. No wonder RHM wants away.
-
I forgot Sellers and Lyden, where is Lyden by the way?
-
Yesterday was a passionless bag of piss. If Bruce honestly think we don't need new players and thinks he can coach the likes of Hutton, Bacuna, Flabby et al to be better, given the shitfest we've had in the last few years then I will start to lose faith with him too. One might argue that we've improved since he arrived but that glass ceiling is clearly there for all Villa fans to see. We will NOT get promoted with the likes of Hutton, Bacuna, Flabby, Westwood, Gardner in the side. They HAVE to be replaced. It'll take time and I have given up on it happening this season. Not one shot on target yesterday. Absolutely crap.
-
Are we cutting off our nose to spite our face in not playing RHM?
-
In the words of the late SGT, "Do I not like that" or "Can we not knock it?"
In the most emotional week a lot of us older Villa fans can remember, Steve Bruce and his current Villa team serve up one of the most embarrassing performances I have seen for many a long time.
The great man himself will have been looking down on that and (paraphrasing here) thinking this club is a shambles- yet again!
When was the last time we had a properly fit Aston Villa team? I'd go as far back as the Brian Little team or even the Ron Atkinson team when Roger Spry was the fitness coach. Everyone was always in space making themselves available for a pass. Looking at the current squad, so many appear out of condition that questions surely have to be asked about what is happening at BMH.
I thought Johnstone, Chester, Amavi, Bacuna and Hutton did ok. The rest were utter garbage. Again, you have to question what is going on in training if Baker is so out of condition he gets injured warming up ffs, Elphick, Tish, Jedi, Gabby and McCormack look like Sunday league players.
I was thinking about Grealish also. The lad clearly has some talent, a lovely first touch and the ability to draw a foul, but I was thinking his attributes might be more suited playing as a number eight, a bit further forward, more in a Gary Shaw type position. I think we'd certainly win a few more penalties and could he be any worse than McCormack? Not sure that he has the pace or strength to be a midfielder.
I like Steve Bruce. He truly seems honoured to be at Villa, but he needs to re-assess this current squad/coaches/assistants as the football is regressing back to the bad days of last season. If he continues to serve up the shite that we've been treated to recently then his days will be numbered too.
-
Any of Green, RHM or Davis would be preferable to Abgonlahor. I'm sick and tired of seeing him in our team. No wonder RHM wants away.
This. It's so depressing seeing him still in the Villa shirt. It beggars belief actually.
-
A good day out spoiled by 90 mins of football, again.
I think Bruce can feel let down by some of he players he's given a chance to, bit part players coming in really haven't grabbed the opportunity, Tishbolas awareness of players running behind him was none existent, McCormack looked unfit and out of his depth and Gabby played the way we all expected him to, yes he was that bad.
It wasn't all bad, three quarters of the defence looked solid and the goal aside, the keeper did well. It was further forward where the problems arose, little energy from any of the midfielders, a propensity to give the ball away under little pressure and a complete lack of movement and nous from the forwards. Whilst I thought Wolves were poor as well we did well to come away with a single goal defeat. We've now played everyone and I'm still to see what I would call a good side, that we are mid table in a division so short of excellence says volumes about this set of players.
They really need to pull their finger out and stamp their mark on the league form now on in.
-
Great to see that during his time away from the team Agbonlahor really worked on his fitness/fatness.
There must be a club in China that will take him.
-
I watched Leeds in Friday against Derby. Average game with very little chances, but Leeds played with passion and pace and really looked liked they wanted it. They have players who can go past a man and seem like a real team. We have none of these attributes yet Monk has done this from a shambolic base and they have become a good side for this division. They have players whom I have never heard of yet are way better quality than we have on the strenght of the few times Ive seen Leeds play and they didnt spend £50m to assemble.
Their CF is Chris Woods who has many of the attributes of Gesteded i.e he is good in the air but very limited elsehwere. He has scored 14 league goals because they play to his strenghts and have players around him with the power, pace and desire mentioned above.
On paper we should have a better side but clearly from the two meetings with them and their current league position this is not the case. You have to wonder about the coaching and fitness regime at BMH. Also I thought Bruce being appointed would get the immediate respect of the players but this is clearly not the case. They arent listening to what they are being told and clearly arent playing for him or the shirt. This is worrying in itself.
In terms of Lambert, I thought Wolves were ordinary yesterday and played far better under Zenga at VP earlier this season. He is a bang average manager and wont take the Yam yam's anywhere but mid table at best. Like others have said I cant stand the bloke
-
It's not passion, it's Roofe's ability to drive a game on. We haven't got a player that can do that, but it shows that even with a gaggle of average players, having balance can pay dividends.
-
I haven't collected my thoughts properly but we were bloody awful yesterday all over the park.
-
Very poor again yesterday. Whilst we all know the midfield is not good enough, we're missing Kodjia's goal's and presence up front massively and it goes without saying, a way past it Gabby is not the answer. I'd rather see him give him Davis a run with McCormack alongside him with Green out wide. He needs to shake things up a bit.
-
Wolves fans are laughing more at how crap our fans were more than how crap our team was.
Are they?
The atmosphere was flat, surprising for a late kick off and a bit of local needle, the Wolves fans looked as bored by proceedings as we did. If they are claiming their contribution to the atmosphere was anything special they must have a much different idea on what a good one is.
-
This thing that's still going on as well with most of our play going through Hutton, as it has done for about 18 months, is seriously pissing me off, he can't fucking cross, stop giving him the ball all the time.
-
If Hutton could cross from the positions he goes into he wouldn't be playing in a mid table Championship side, he'd still be at Spurs.
We have far more pressing needs than replacing Hutton.

And that's the problem, he's a mid table Championship player, we aren't getting promoted with players like him in the side. More than a few people suggested we'd piss this league and such and such would be a good player at this level, completely ignoring their inabilities to do even the basics correctly. Hutton is a complete waste of time.

We signed a replacement but unfortunately he is crocked, pointless throwing more money at it. He does a reasonable job but with obvious limitations.

QuintonVilla's obsession about our fans is becoming a bit tiresome. Besides, how would he know they were laughing at our support? How ridiculous.
-
His work rate and tenacity gets him in good positions from where his lack of talent lets him down, it's the lack of ability from other attacking players which is the problem.

i don't think he does a reasonable job, he leaves us exposed on the right with poor positioning and lack of mobility. He wastes every opportunity when he receives the ball in an attacking position.
He has stopped giving fouls away because he gets no where near any player with the ball.
-
However right back is not the position to fix right now. It's akin to putting new locks on your shed when all the windows in your house are wide open.

That is a complete misrepresentation. You appear to be letting your dislike of the player prevent any kind of objectivity. He can't cross, we all know that, but the rest is way over the top. There are far more pressing issues than our stand in right back.
-
I'm no fan of Hutton but since Bruce has been here, I think he's been ok but that might be because he's found his level. I'd play Bacuna right back personally. It's the one position that suits him best and he's got the ability to put the ball into box unlike Hutton.

Adomah and Green/Grealish(preferably Green due to his pace and trickery) either side of McCormack for me.
McCormack would do better with intelligent players up next to and around him. Not a whale from Erdington pretending to be a human being/footballer.
This situation points out the total mess the signings made in the summer were.
We desperately need a 'proper' centre forward. It doesn't have to be a prolific scorer, but it does need to be someone to hold the ball up and bring the midfielders into the game (in an attacking sense). In the process we'll get the best out of Grealish, McCormack, RHM, Green - all of them.
Without a player like this the game is always stretched and you end up needing holding central midfielders to protect the back four.
If we don't get a striker then it won't matter whichever midfielders we may or may not get we'll have exactly the same problem as we saw yesterday.

Exactly. No matter how limited Hutton, Amavi, Elphick and Gollini are, they are not the major problem.
-
Did someone really offer huge money for Amavi? Please tell me it was just a jackanory story.

Nothing against him personally.
I think he is past it, I would rather he concentrated on defending and not get involved offensively as he delivers nothing and often leaves us open defensively.
-
Yet another terrible away performance, 7 goals in 14 away games is just awful, Gabby totally useless, Amavi cant defend, no creativity at all from midfield, as it looks like another striker wont be coming in we'd better hope Kodjia and Ayew get back early as possible, semi finals 1st/2nd of Feb, final 5th of Feb is the worst case scenario, get 1 or 2 decent midfielders into our team in readiness for their return and we may still be able to get ourselves close to the top 6 but only if the away form improves.

I was there and I commented on how crap the atmosphere was in our end, hardly an obsession is it? We pride ourselves on our away support but the atmosphere has been poor at several away games this season, although the football and results do nothing to help of course.
I've got several Wolves mates and I'm on Twitter, hence how I know they were taking the piss.

It is an obsession when you bring it up after nearly every away game. So a few mates on twitter equates to their fans laughing at our support? Ah, righty oh then.
-
It's rare you'll find a Wolves supporter who will admit that any other club has a team, ground or support as good as theirs.
-
For all his limitations Hutton does at least play with the the drive and desire that we need in the side. Our problem is that we always look to play the ball to him when he makes his overlapping runs - instead of using his run as a decoy at times.
Our passing in offensive situations is far too predictable, laboured and easy to plan against defensively.
It's disappointing because early season under Di Matteo I thought we had spells in games where we moved the ball intelligently around the box and were just lacking with the finishing, unlucky at times. Then the pressure built because we were giving late goals away and the rest is history.
Under Bruce we're clearly better defensively but with the ball it really is unimaginative and predictable and relies on rare moments of individual quality.
-
no matter how good our away support is the performance of the team don't help when the team is playing shit then than filters to the support.
brighton away good performance great atmosphere
preston away shit performance shit atmosphere
and so on and so on
-
Hutton is the only outlet at times. The only method of getting the ball up the pitch. The midfield has no brains and no drive and without Kodjia and Ayew there is no means to score goals. McCormack is a £12 million statue who contributes very little and what is Jedinak's purpose? Hutton and Bacuna were our best players yesterday but had no support.
At least Gestede could head the ball into the net. 3 games, no goals and Preston won't be easy next week.
-
Hutton was our best player yesterday, which is an indictment of our performance. He gets in some great positions, but his final ball is absolutely atrocious.

To be fair Clampy, speaking about how the fans conducted themselves after an away game is quite normal on a football forum.

Gestede needed quality from out wide though which we don't have, plus he was dreadful for us for 18 months so it's revisionism really to suggest he is any better than we have. What's more worrying is Callum Robinson leaving on a free and more than holding his own at this level while we have those two clowns up front yesterday offering nothing.
We have struggled to create chances all season, even with Kodjia and Ayew available.
-
A recently departed friend of ours, would have torn the team a new arsehole for putting in a performance like that. A pathetic display.

9 goals for us in the last 2 seasons compared to Gabby's 1 goal in the same period is as clear a proof as you need that he IS better than the busted flush that Bruce has put all his chips on.

On the other hand, claiming the home fans were laughing and taking the piss out of our support just on the back of a few tweets is way over the top and just an attempt to make his every other week moan more valid.

I am not sure on the numbers but it feels as though about 40% of our build up play goes down the right with Hutton being involved. Most of the time when he plays it to Adomah the only ball on for Adomah is to give it back to Hutton. Very rarely does Hutton put Adomah away early or in good positions. Hutton's standard move is to run with the ball, play it inside and carry on with the overlap for the return ball. Unless Hutton goes direct and just runs straight forward, there seems no variety to his play.
Most recognise that Hutton's crossing is very poor, rarely getting the ball past the first player and when he does, he either over hits it or pulls it back too far. What this means is that players in the box do not know whether they should go near post, far post or drop off.
What all of the above means ultimately is that we waste 40% of our attacking possession. We cannot afford to be so wasteful. I do not think it's coincidence that opposition teams give him so much space and cover other positions.
That is my view on the attacking side of his game and I could go on about how this leaves us open to counterattack and his actual defensive positioning but I won't because I am getting fed up with it and people saying but he works hard and there are more important positions to look at. If people are willing to accept us giving up attacking positions so easily, fine, but I am not. The right back and midfield positions need to both be looked at if we are to improve our attacking performance.
We brought in a player to replace Hutton and he got injured. I don't believe we should go out and spend a lot of money on a right back but there must be somebody around that could come in on loan. At this level, even Bacuna's weakness in his defensive play wouldn't get shown up too much and his attacking ability is far superior to Hutton.
-
Every day I read posts from people on here saying "my [insert team here]-supporting mate says / has tweeted x or y" and they don't get slammed for it. What's the difference between them and Quinton Villa?

There has to be a reason why we regularly get riled at our fellow posters and squabble about this, that and the other. Now if only I could put my finger on it...

I wasn't there yesterday but I've been before. I think the main problem there is the layout. That long narrow section you get is hard to generate any atmosphere as our fans are so spread out. As for the game I'll say it again. This seasons a write off. The team lacks quality, width and balance. The last two managers have bought poorly and it will take Bruce time to sort the mess out. He's a canny manager and i trust him to deliver. I'd be planning for a full on tilt at the title next season.

A nose told me the statue had been vandalised, obviously inferring the away support was responsible. I replied that it was a bit like when Princess Diana was vandalised in Paris.

Perhaps Bruce has gone doolally and lost any semblance of organisation and motivation, but I personally maintain that he will get this mess sorted - given time & money. I think of how B&HA were a couple of years ago when Hughton inherited a side that was hitherto plummeting to the third tier; and how it has taken him until this season to put out a side which look capable of promotion & survival in the Prem. Barring CH, I can't think of another manager I would be more effective than Bruce at rebuilding a Championship squad to mount a serious promotion challenge: but it's going to take more time than many are currently willing to give him. I really do appreciate the ever-growing frustration, but there's clearly no quick fix in the offing. I say judge the guy after the transfer activity in the Summer - because a good number of our current squad need to be replaced if we're to pull ourselves out of this seemingly terminal malaise.

after spending the best part of £100m on players in the last couple of years I would have expected Old Mother Hubbard to have got us higher than 13th in Division 2.

Bit misleading as it's about £40m net. We should be higher mind.
-
It's a value for money thing as well. We have paid silly money for sub-standard players. We can all see how Di Matteo's summer recruitment was very poor :-\
-
I agree Auntie. The factor we constantly discount is that our players/board/owner/manager have gone raving mad. It would explain a great deal. Why are we playing Gabby, why has Westwood got 150 first team starts, why didn't Barry take the penalty?

That old adage about 'a fool & their money' sadly springs to mind. :(
-
I personally don't put SB into the category of a fool with other people's money...but he does have to make it look as if he wants to make things work for the long term. he has a job to protect, after all.

I don't either Bob. Let's hope & pray he manages to buck the recent trend of signing up overpriced dross.
-
I am sure he will but he is not a miracle worker. His style is getting more things right that he gets wrong. He will get us back in the Premiership I have no doubt. It is just going to be a bumpy ride.
-
I'm no fan of Hutton but since Bruce has been here, I think he's been ok but that might be because he's found his level. I'd play Bacuna right back personally. It's the one position that suits him best and he's got the ability to put the ball into box unlike Hutton.

I would have expected the bone or the cupboard to get us in the top ten

Wolves fans are laughing more at how crap our fans were more than how crap our team was.
Are they?
The atmosphere was flat, surprising for a late kick off and a bit of local needle, the Wolves fans looked as bored by proceedings as we did. If they are claiming their contribution to the atmosphere was anything special they must have a much different idea on what a good one is.
QuintonVilla's obsession about our fans is becoming a bit tiresome. Besides, how would he know they were laughing at our support? How ridiculous.
Many years ago I gave a shit about what other supporters thought of us but now realise they are insanely jealous of us, on those days I'd be straight back having a pop that they got their highest attendance of the season and then, with many witnesses, did that Tim Lovejoyesque Viking clap thing at the end.
Hideous Fever Pitch, Soccer AM, banz nonsense.
The atmosphere was indeed shit, they really didn't help it.

It wasn't a tough contest to win but personally I thought Hutton was our best player last year. The one thing that struck me with Steve Bruce at Small Heath was he always pulled a couple of rabbits out of the hat in the January transfer window.
-
You know you're crap when Alan 'couldn't cross a road' Hutton is your main attacking threat. He does give his all though which is more than can be said for some of the fannies.
-
Can take nothing away from Alan Hutton's performance, we all know he's not top quality but perfectly adequate in the Championship.
As for fan watch have to say that is the first time I couldn't hear our fans away from home was their a throat infection doing the rounds, didn't hear one rendition of Graham Taylors Claret'n'Blue army.
-
There has to be a reason why we regularly get riled at our fellow posters and squabble about this, that and the other. Now if only I could put my finger on it...
Pack mentality...school play ground stuff?
-
It's the Villa being shite that brings it on.

It was sung on the concourse which sums up modern football fans' mentality. Sing and jump around on the concourse, then get to your seat and stand in silence.

This time last year I new relegation was a certainty and was expecting, with Lerner still there, a possible double relegation. We've thrown money at it yes, quite a lot of it unwisely by the look of it, but I never really thought promotion was likely this year. We need to build a team and it takes time. Let Bruce get the players in he wants, if not this window then give a couple of the better young players a run. Looks like a relatively stress free long run in to the season end, we aren't going up or down.
-
Took till today to put what I saw Saturday (be it on TV) and how it has happened in some form of sentence, without every other word being a swear word, but here goes.
We have had many years of neglect but the one statement made in modern football that really irks, "It's not his team yet". How many managers actually get to manage 11, 15 or 18 of their own buys, apart from maybe the top two or three clubs in the top league, would say only Fergie and Wenger in my memory.
No they are not his team, YES they are ! he is manager of Aston Villa and at this moment he has to utilise the assets he has at hand and the least I expect, is to see a team that is fit enough to last 96 minutes, has some form of shape and pattern to their play, has players that are well drilled at corners, both attacking and defense, free kicks and throw ins, this should not be strange to this group of players as I have searched my memory to see if any of the players playing for Aston Villa were not professional footballers, i.e. Rugby players, Ice hockey players, prior to joining the club.
He has also got to use all of those assets, including RHM, I do not care if he does not want to sign a new contract going forward, correct me if I am wrong but Aston Villa football club pay his bloody wages. Not a Brucey hater, but talking the talk but not walking the walk and addressing the obvious problems, through sheer hard work and determination from all involved, has been evident at B6 for way to long, you were brought into change it Brucey boy, still have slight believe you may do, but that wont last for much longer.

I was thinking during the game that Hutton was running into the space that Adomah wanted to move into to take on the full back. I think Hutton should curb his runs on the overlap and use them less often to leave the space for Adomah. However, this means either Hutton moving inside or, better still, other players giving Adomah different options which doesn't happen often enough
-
and Gabby, what is the point?
-
The thing that gives me hope is that Bruce comes out after shit performances and says alot of what i think. Yes, there is some stuff I disagree with but on the whole there is no "we were fantastic, we were unlucky , we go again" bollocks
Oh, and his first signing seems to be an astute, low cost upgrade on what we have already (A journeyman pro in Bunn and a young, inexperienced lad in a foreign country in Gollini)
-
and Gabby, what is the point?
The most pointless human being on the planet.
-
Hutton encroaching on the spaces that Adomah should be using means we have a defender attacking and an attacker defending....
if they were great at what they do that would be no problem but you know what?
-
Our midfield is appalling and our general team play is a joke. Say whatever you want about any of our forwards but they are living off scraps. Nothing is being created for them. RM just doesn't go from 80+ goals in 3 seasons to nothing. We create fuck all and that's a huge problem especially on the road.
-
Just let us have the ball and watch us slowly pass it around in front of you and then when one of our incompetent donkeys like Hutton give the ball away hit us on the break. The structure of the team is shit.
-

yep that is a big part of it and has been for a long time but, at the same time, the forwards need to show for the ball and have movement with a purpose. Kodjia does that, good enough for this level anyway. McCormack does to a certain extent but lacks the pace to be able to run in behind. Gabby moves but with no purpose and usually after the defender has already read the play

For the last few games we've been hoofing the ball upfield and and it's almost always a wasted ball, because both McCormack and Gabby are useless in the air against big defenders. This also applied to Gestede, despite the fact that heading was supposed to be his strength. If he did get his head to the ball he wasn't able to direct it. How we need a Withe, Carew or Heskey in that position!

After Baker was injured/re-injured in the warm ups, did anyone replace him on the bench ?
-
Well a positive for me is up until five minutes ago I thought we lost 2-0. Was at the 02 Saturday night with no battery on my phone, my wife and various others were winding me up with score, however, result is pure crap.
