Tshibola to start for me with Jedinak in midfield. Back five picks itself.

I'd go with Adomah and Grealish wide with Gabby and McCormack up top, so a 4411.

Wolves are mince, but we cannot sacrifice the midfield with the likes of Gardner or Westwood.

Wolves 1 - Aston Villa 3

McCormack hattrick as he kicks into form.

Season defining game. Realistically we have to win this if we're going to keep in touch with the play offs. I think we will. 0-1. Agbonlahor will pretend it's 2009 and head home a late winner. Melee in the away end ensues.

Can I be the first to say I'd enjoy it if we stick it up Lambert?

Anyway, I agree it's a game that could influence the rest of the season. Looking forward to it but aprehensive at the same time.

Nailed on 1-1.

We score early(ish). Chester header from a corner.

They equalise soon after.

The game fizzles out.

We need to win though. Really need to win.

Our away form and lack of goals now with added Jonny Todger missing means an unsatisfactory defeat looms.

We can't win away.

...and Wolves can't win at home. A dreadful 0-0 or us to scrape it 1-0 with a scrappy, deflected goal off Gabby's backside.
Title: Re: Wolves v Villa - Pre Match Thread

Can't believe we have more people voting that we will win than lose. I really do hope I'm wrong as we seriously need the 3 points here but:-
a) We are away so hardly ever win
b) We are on TV so hardly ever win
c) If our forward line consists just of Gabby, we are not going to score. I think Wolves will be a tougher proposition than the Spurs lite team

Hope I'm proved wrong but just pointing my honest point of view.

On the bright side, am I right in thinking we haven't lost there since 1978 ? (wow 39 years ago, remember it like it was yesterday - I stood on the side by where the players came out.

We have to hit form some time and if McCormack plays, with JK away, what better time for him to get his season going.  2-1 Villa

I was going to say, I can't believe people think we're going to lose at that shower.

We have the best striker in this league from the past few seasons. Lets not play him up front on his own and give it a bash against one of the biggest fuckwits in football.

I wish people did only join in with the good ones, then "Shit support m'lord", "Empty seats m'lord", "Is this a Library" and other classics from Class 4b's day out would have died a death long ago. They must be the most cringeworthy chants in football.
I'll join in with anything that supports the team and laugh at anything uniquely funny - but I too am no lyricist, I have to admit.
I can hum a tune though if anyone wants to add the words as we go along.

Anyone think we could look at 3 at the back moving Jedinak into the back 3 , have Adomah and Amavi wing backs play 3 in midfield of Tishola Grealish and new signing (Please ) or Bacuna

then play a central 2 of McCormack and one of our young strikers ??

no me neither

Looks like we're playing Wolves at the wrong time, clean sheets in their last 2 fixtures, against Wednesday and Stoke, the win in the Cup was against an almost full strength Stoke side. The return of Mike Williamson, after about 12 months out, is a massive plus for their defence.

Hope I'm wrong, but can't see us scoring, 1 - 0 to them.

I don't think we'll win these sorts of matches until we've sorted the midfield out.  It's bound to be a hard fought, scrappy affair, and our midfield is too soft and pedestrian.  I really can't see us scoring with the choice of the two fat blokes we have up front.

It could happen, we're bobbins away, we've made no outfield signings as of yet so we have a mediocre midfield and attack and Lambert will be desperate to beat us.

Wolves were probably the most impressive visiting team at VP this season...I worry if we concede first as we really struggle to get back into away games when that happens.

A minute's silence in honour of SGT followed by Wolves getting spanked 0-1 (would normally say 0-5, but we have no strikers).

The next home game, against Preston, should be an SGT memorial day with the club doing everything it can to pay tribute (videos, programme, web, etc) to a great club servant and an even better person.

Injury update from Pravda/People's Daily

Quote
Mile Jedinak and Nathan Baker should both be fit for the Wolves clash this weekend.

We face Wanderers in a derby encounter on Saturday with a 5.30pm kick-off.

Jedinak has struggled this week with a thigh injury while Baker was struggling late on against Tottenham in the FA Cup with a back problem.

The pair look set to be available but Gary Gardner might miss out.

Gardner was absent at White Hart Lane with a sickness bug.

While Gardner is starting to feel better, it’s unlikely he will be back at Molineux.

Steve Bruce told us: “Nathan is fine. He has trained all week.

“Gary hasn’t really trained at all this week except for today.

“We will see how he is but it will probably be too early for him.

“Mile has had a knock as well. We will see how he is but we think he will be fine.

“Other than that, we are absolutely fine.”

Be a good gauge to see how we have changed since Brucie's 1st game in charge of us v the dingles on the back of the RDM debacle.

thats what I'm afraid of, Bruce has made a lot of changes but I dont think we have improved all that much

Johnstone in as new keeper, Hutton back in as right back, Baker in for Elphick, Amavi in for Cissokho - thats only the defence

Kodjia missing robs us of any kid of spark up top and the likes of Amavi and Grealish are bang out of form at the moment, not to mention the teletubby duo struggles

first goal crucial but looks like a 0-0 to me

----------Johnstone
Hutton, Chester, Baker, Amavi
---Bacuna, Jedinak, Tshibola
Adamoah, Gabby, Grealish

I just can't see a win today.
Lambert has a knack of doing well against his old teams, and seems to have them playing well.
Factor in our lack of goals, and inability to create many chances and I think the best we can expect is a draw.

If they score, we lose.

I think we will hold it to 0 -0 and a game closer to Kodjia coming back.

Here are the words to the song you must all sing for 90 minutes non-stop:-

"Graham Taylor's claret and blue army!"

This, wish I was going. But then again I'd just be crying like a child.

Police said there are no 'away' pubs. How official this is remains to be seen.

can't see why we shouldn't be expecting to win this match
They are below us in the league with a manager that's been in his post for a shorter time than ours

I think we have to go for a win here

Simple orders. Win or don't come home

This no pubs being open sounds a bit odd, as long as folks aren't in big gangs on wearing colours i fail to see how they won't get into a pub/bar. They aren't going to be shut by the police at tea time i'm sure

Im just hoping Mr Mumbles will be quoting classic lines such as "We pick ourselves up and go again" or "The lads were excellent they really were".
This time I would love to hear words I used to hate coming out of his mouth "we deserved something out of this game"!
