By my reckoning there are only 14 teams in English football that hold an overall winning record (they've beaten us more than we've beaten them, in all competitions) over the mighty AVFC. Taking 10 games as the minimum contested. Most are unsurprising, some more so.
Can anyone name them? Without cheating.
*Edited, it's 14.

-
Mansfield
Walsall
Maybe Northampton
-
Oh just saw the minimum ten games contested clause... ignore above guesses.
Leicester.
-
I'm going to add Luton as well, we never seemed to win there in my time.
-
Oh, Peter's already guessed Leicester. Fuck's sake.
-
Millwall?

Leicester.
Correct
And yes Northampton and Mansfield do but in less than 10 games as you say. Not Walsall though.
-
West Ham.
Is one of them a sneaky one along the lines of a Glossop or Darwen type club?
-

Millwall?
Nope.

Is one of them a sneaky one along the lines of a Glossop or Darwen type club?
Correct with West Ham.
No, not that sneaky!
-
Can you list the ones which we've got so far so we know how many are left, please?

Incorrect Peter, our 28 wins outstrips their 25.
-
Everton
Cardiff City
-
Haven't Everton now got a winning record against us following our recent shittery?
-
Oh, piss off Meanwood Villa!
-
Correct, Everton currently have their noses in front of us 82 to 80.
1 to find, and it's a toughie.

It's definitely Doncaster, I remember because they mentioned it on TV when we played them in a cup a few years back, comes from a cup tie in the 50s where we had 4 or 5 rep, lays and they eventually won. I did check before I posted though.

Spot on paul e
Played 12, won 2 drawn 6 lost 4 versus Donny.
We're also level, 7 wins apiece with Watford.

not really, I only checked when I'd already thought of it, and only to be sure that we'd played them at least 10 times.
-
Well so you say. You cheat. May I ask that paul e's post is removed or declared void and thus invalid?
Ta
Doncaster?
-
Nobody likes a tell-tale so I don't think Peter's post should count.
-
Doncaster?
-
When you realise Doncaster have a better record against us than Inter Milan do.

Or Ajax or Bayern Munich.

The recent shittery is what puts Tottenham ahead of us too. Another reason for my Lerner resentment to fester!

Our recent record against them is indeed woeful but we've had lean times against them before. Between 1950 and 1962 we played them 24 times and failed to beat them.
-
The losing records against the majority on the list are understandable but I think it's fair to draw the conclusion that QPR, Leicester, West Ham and Luton Town can be classed as 'bogey' teams for us.

True, and we've also had similar long runs against them where they have struggled to get wins over us, so, hopefully, we will be back ahead of them (and others) in the not too distant future.
-
All this goes to show we're pretty mediocre eh? Sorry, sleeping giant, massive club, sporting mammoth, but for Lerner, etc.
-
How does 14 compare against other clubs? And how many wins are we away from tipping things back the other way on each one? Sorry, I'm not expecting you to research a thesis on this but it's an interesting topic, someone may know.
-
Swansea.
-
If I remember correctly pre Arsene Wenger Villa had beaten Arsenal more times than they us, likewise It would be interesting to see Man Utd's record pre Ryan Giggs. A lot of the reasons so many teams have beaten us more than we them (considering I believe we are sixth in the all time league table ) can be put down to the fact that most didn't come into existence until the late years of our halcyon days so we never got to rack up our Ramsay years against them.
-
Our record against Man U was shite even before they were good. We'd regularly lose to them when they were non-entities and we were the best team around, at their ground, at least.
-
Pretty sure it's something like 2 wins at their place since 1930. And about 5 away wins in total against them.

3 wins since WW2. 1953, 1983 and 2010. I was there in 2010 and don't intend on returning until the 2030s when we're due our next win.
-
Man Citeh`s record against us home and away is unreal, going right back to the 70s we really do seem to have been their bitches, i remember talking to one of their lot in Tenerife going back to the early nineties and he said VP was one of the first fixtures they look for because they always bring loads and always win here, they even did us when we won the league.
-
No they didn't as we lost 8 times that season to Ipswich twice, Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool, Boro, Brighton and Spurs.

My mistake, it was the following season when we were already League Champions and about to become European Champions which actually makes it worse.
