Title: Spurs vs Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: UK Redsox on January 04, 2017, 08:37:01 PM
Is this now acting as the Pre-Match thread or do we need a new one?

Wanted to go to this but I coach an U13's team and we also have an important cup game in the Dorset U13's Cup. Our game kicks off at 2PM, the other side of Dorset, so I will have to listen on the radio in the car on the way home. Very good away support yet again! However I will be at Wolves and Brentford (thanks to someone on H&V!) so can't complain.

Well, yes, 3 on each side...

But to suggest that's an even matchup is just odd.  ;)

For anyone having a go at 'guess the crowd', Spurs have sold out. Our tickets are now on booking history rather than general sale to stop Spurs fans buying tickets in our end.

I think it's a nailed on draw. Lets face it. Us ST Holders are waiting for our "Free cup game" this season, so we draw at Spurs and then get our free game (and defeat) in the replay.

Either that or we all get to individually sit with Dr T over the next 20 years!

You can bet your life seeing as it is in front of the baying national television watching audience (not even by protected by the relatively obscure BT Sport) that we will be royally taken from behind and humped over and over mercilessly.

They're now third in the PL, on form, and this week stopped Chelsea's record winning run attempt while keeping a clean sheet in the process; we're struggling for form, are missing our main man to the ACON, and lost to Cardiff this week; it's on national terrestrial TV, not hidden in some dark corner of BT Sport; Mike Dean's the referee; what could possibly go wrong?

If we line up with Johnstone, Bunn, Gollini (Dean won't notice 3 keepers as he's  too busy skipping around and pleasuring himself celebrating any Spurs pass), Hutton, Elphick, Chester, Baker, Richards, Cissokho, Amavi and, of course, Westwood, we may escape a severe thrashing.

Seriously though, I think the gulf between us and them that's opened up over the last few seasons will be brought into sharp focus come Sunday tea-time. At least we'll be able to concentrate on the league.

In footballing terms, if theres one thing that will make me queasy it's talk of Aston Villa being a plucky underdog against fucking Spurs.  If we win it will be shit (reported as 'giant killing') and if we lose it will be shit (always shit to lose against these wankers).  So, a nice draw.

Bacuna Elphick Chester Cissokho

McCormack
Gabby

Since Monday, or is this older news that is now wrong?

EDIT - Sorry - just nipped to the RHM thread to see this is current, but how odd for them to be saying this for weeks, play him against Cardiff, and then revert to the same position the next day.

think its worth giving Green a chance on the right, the lad looks as if he has ability but needs games

Flabby and Tshibola will almost certainly start I would think and Amavi needs a game out

-------------Johnstone
Hutton, Chester, Baker, Cissokho
-------Bacuna, Jedinak, Tshibola
------Green, Flabbs, Grealish

There probably is merit in the idea of giving Amavi a rest. But any permutation that sees Cissokho come in an and do that weird impression of a puppy chasing a balloon should be avoided.  Even in a game like this.

It's going to be tough because they're playing very well but it's possible they'll put out a weakened side like a few sides did yesterday. I don't think we'll win but I don't think we'll get thumped either.

The only joy I can see is when Mike Dean celebrates all of their Spurs goals by joining in the 'hugs' the fa finally see what everyone knows and he gets sacked.

Not looking forward to this at all.

Would take a 2-0 defeat right now.

This could be bad. Damage limitation for me.

Spurs are flying at the moment. It's gonna take all of Brucies
tactical nous to prevent an embarrassing walloping. I'll take a draw and bring em to villa park for a cold winters night and you never know. But if I see the teamsheet with Westwood and Gardner paired together I won't even bother watching it.
Agree with you about Westwood and Gardner, but we don't want a replay, we've already got 6 games schedule for this month, that's plenty, it's win or bust. Bust is my bet, unfortunately.

I'd rather lose this than draw, but I wouldn't mind betting Spurs feel the same.

So let's fuck the fuckers and do them.

I think Spurs will make quite a few changes so hopefully the chances of a spanking are reduced

I'm still in oz so happy to just wake up tomorrow and check the score in the morning. No injuries and at least putting up a performance and managing to pass the ball will do for me

How depressing

Reckon we're facing a real hiding. Never mind though, at least we can all stream out of the ground well before the 6pm tube strike.

Zero Sum Game. Anything less than a win will enable the BBC to drive home their anti Villa bias. Being 'plucky' losers or getting a replay will mean they can patronise Villa like a non league team. A big win for Spurs and the BBC will grind our faces in the dust.

I have got used to having our faces ground in the dust.  We will still be Aston Villa tomorrow morning.

The closer we get to kick off the more and more I actually really want us to progress in the cup...

If Bruce can't get us promoted maybe he can bring some silverware...
