Title: Cardiff v Villa pre-match thread
Post by: dave.woodhall on December 30, 2016, 12:19:46 PM
Two games in quick succession, madman owner, supporters with a bit of a reputation. We’ve been here before haven’t we? They’ve got a new manager in the delightful shape of Neil Warnock, of whom every supporter whose club have just lost to his brand of ball-launching says, “We should have had him” until they realise that whatever else he might do he’s still Neil Warnock. He’s made them a bit better, which wasn’t hard, and he’s still as horrible as ever, which was even easier. We came here a couple of years ago when they were making a cameo appearance in the Premier League and our current dealings with them had better last no longer. The transfer window will have been open for 39 hours by kick-off so they’ll probably have no different players to the home match, but you never know. They’ll probably be in blue but again anything’s possible. These foreign owners…

No matter how better they are under Warnock we’ve still got to win this one, for the good of football of nothing else.

Things newfooty fans don’t know – How Neil Warnock is still in employment.

I've been to 19 away games.  We won two of the first three. The last sixteen have seen 13 losses and 3 draws.

I'm going on Monday.  We'd better bloody win.

I've been looking at the predictions here and I just can't see where our goals are going to come from.
Probably no Kodjia, probably no Grealish, a tired Jedinak, a left back who can't defend, Gardner possibly coming in who is clearly not up to the job. Sorry to put a downer on things but I just can't see us performing the way we need to, to get a win

We've still got Adomah, McCormack will probably play as the main striker and Gestede will still be here, as well as Ayew. It's not all bad.

Not a bad idea, although the team I play for hasn't won for 18 months and our cricket team have been relegated twice on the bounce so I'm clearly not a lucky charm!

Fuck's sake. For about the first time ever, the fixture list presents us with an advantage, then it takes it away again.

The idea of Jedinak playing his third game in eight days against a nicely-rested midfield does not fill me with confidence.

If kodjia and grealish are unavailable too then that will make it tougher to get goals

Will be very happy with any sort of win here

well he should wear fkn shin pads then! I know the knock he got was on his thigh. But not wearing pads just seems foolishly daft to me, when you consider the intensity of the tackling in the championship and even more so in the PL.

Anyone know why he doesn't wear them? Is it because he finds it easier to control the ball, or does he really think that he's brian little or something?

Fairly attacking and open maybe but get the ball wide, get it in the box, cause mayhem. We simply can't "play" through any team until our midfield is sorted.
We caused all sorts of problems to Leeds once we got it into Gestede. Ok he can't hold it up and bring the midfield into play but he wins more than his fair share in the air.

He does wear them, they are just fairly small and he rolls his socks down to just above them. I remember when he first started him saying that it was something he had always done and that he was not going to change.

Targeted? He's already targeted, or have you missed all the free kicks and penalties he's won us? Every time he gets the the opposition doubles up on him, and I doubt it's anything to do with wearing small shin pads.

Cissokho would be fine at left back with amavi in front of him as he could stop at the half way line and amavi would give us natural width and and drop back to cover

I think amavi as a winger would rip most full backs in this league a new arsehole

Looking forward to going to Cardiff tomorrow. New ground for me. Sitting in home section as Villa away tickets are hard to get. Currently Villa are 5th (play off positions) based on home results only with the same number of points earned as Newcastle (24). We are 15th based on away results only. Our away form in 2017 has got to improve (allied to strong home form) if we are to make at least the playoffs. Hopefully we can continue where we left off at QPR with another win tomorrow. UTV! VTID!

Jedinak will be given a breather I'd say, maybe Amavi too. Reckon Bruce will pick the following

-----------------Bunn
Hutton, Chester, Baker, Cissokho
Adamoah, Gardner, Westwood, Bacuna
McCormack, Gestede

Fuck, that's a mid table second division side if I ever saw one. Ayew deserves to be dropped though and options are very limited.

I'd leave the back four as it is, there's no need to change it. I reckon he'll play Jedinak and leave him out of the Spurs game instead and i'd go with Ayew alongside McCormack.

Has anyone actually left for the ANC yet? Kodjia will probably be there on his own.

Jedi looked knackered against Leeds but I can't see SB resting him against these dirty bastards!
1-2 to the good guys.

UTV!

I'd go 4-4-1-1

Gollini

Hutton
Chester
Baker
Amavi

Adomah
Jedinak
Gardner
Bacuna

McCormack

Gestede

This for me, other than I'd replace Gaedner with Ayew

FIFA 17 predicts, remarkably, an absolute dominant performance in a 5-0 away win. 20 shots on target, 5 different Villa scorers including a peach from Westwood. Only their keeper having a blinder keeps the score down to single figures.

Cardiff have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 6 at home. If we can't get 3 points there we may as well give up. Saying that, we've only scored 7 away from home all season. That's a shocking stat that Mr Bruce needs to rectify, hopefully starting tomorrow.

I'm still confident we'll win 2-0.

Kodjia not allowed to play, but their Gabonese defender is available, despite the fact that Gabon's first game is a day before the Ivorians' opener.

Conclusion: Ivory Coast are c***s. I will not be buying any more ivory, just to spite them.

I am tweeting Boris Johnson to call for a nuclear strike.  In the recent words of President elect Trump, what is the point of having nuclear weapons and not using them.

Wasn't that Teresa May?

Anyway, hope for a victory as we seem to have a decent record against the lower sides, not to hex it of course!

Just bloody realised we're playing tomorrow and not today...

I was getting suitably tensed up too and was surprised to see so few comments on h&v.
And no Twitter team news at 2 pm.

Then it clicked ....
I'm still not sure what day of the week we're on. Is it Monday today? When do my grandchildren go back to school?

They don't go to school any more Bernie.  Two are schoolteachers, one is a dentist and the other is on Yorkshire's books as a promising opening bat.  Do try to keep up.
