Title: Travel info for Boxing Day
Post by: PeterWithesShin on December 21, 2016, 06:42:33 PM
Rather than this get lost in the pre-match thread i'll give it a thread

Quote
Boxing Day will see a bumper 40,000 plus crowd attending Villa Park.

Given the increase in the number of fans attending this match, we would advise all fans attending as follows:

National Express Buses will be operating a Sunday timetable.

Please double check the timetable before using bus services (ensure you can get home post-match).

London Midland will not be operating trains on Boxing Day.

If you are driving to Villa Park, please car share where possible to reduce the number of vehicles attending the match.

If you are driving to Villa Park, use official car parks only – please visit the transport section of the website and plan what car park you intend to use.

If you are travelling from the north, please use junction 7 of the M6 and access car parks north of the stadium such as Apparelmaster & Birmingham City University.

Do not drive past junction 7 to access Villa Park from junction 6.

The nearer you park to Villa Park, the more likely you are to encounter traffic congestion before and after the match.

Boxing Day would be the ideal fixture to use car parks such as Star City & Powerleague (junction 6 M6) or Aparelmaster & Birmingham City University (junction 7 M6), as these car parks are less likely to be affected by post-match traffic.

Wear sensible footwear that take the weather conditions in to account.

Please leave in plenty of time before the match to avoid pre-match traffic build up – ideally much earlier than you would for other 3pm fixtures.

The Residents Parking Zone will be in operation as normal.

Parking in local streets may see your vehicle issued with a parking penalty of up to £60.

All taxi firms will be operating as normal both before and after the match, but please be aware that additional traffic may mean you have to wait to secure a cab.

The traffic exclusion zone will be in operation.

We’d also like to take the opportunity to wish all of our supporters a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you on Boxing Day!

Last time I checked WMT said they were operating certain bus routes until 6pm only on Boxing Day which is obviously less than a sunday service.

Did they change their mind?

All year they make it difficult for people to get to the match by car, but when it suits them they have to rely on it. Love the double standards.

Don't trust the bus companies on these days. They'll just stop running at about 5 and won't bother to tell anyone in advance.

So we know there's going to be 40,000 people travelling to and from a large sporting event, we know roughly what time they will be travelling to the event, and we know exactly what time they will be travelling away from the event. From previous events, we know pretty well which routes the majority of people will be using. Yet there will be a less than adequate public transport service, but people are being advised to wear the right shoes.*

Welcome to the third world.

Good luck, y'all.

*You might also wish to consider some kind of jerkin or tunic. Maybe a hat.

May I suggest that all travelling supporters ensure that they have a plentiful supply of citrus fruit about their person before they leave for the ground? Scurvy is so easily avoided.

The sensible footwear line is a bit OTT, but the rest of it is just a general heads up about Boxing Day travel which is fair enough. Imagine the groans if the club had not mentioned the lack of public transport on a matchday.

difficult to tell as nobody has yet been able to attend due to travel chaos and a total holiday period news blackout.

What are the canal boat options? Might take as long as walking but will save the wear and tear on footwear.

I'm driving up from London. Where is the best place to park to make a quick getaway back onto the M6? Don't mind a bit of a walk. Is Star City likely to have spaces?

Thanks

I also might use Star City.   Has 2,400 spaces.  Can you just leave your car for 3 plus hours without getting a charge??
