He had to drop Elphick, Westwood, Ayew, Agbonlahor and Grealish, because they've all been terrible, so I'd have gone with that too.  Quite why Agbonlahor is in the squad ahead of Tshibola though, I have no idea.

Decent midfield but I'd have stuck Grealish in. Bunn is poor though.

Mark Bunn just strikes me as the sort of keeper you see playing Sunday morning football. Turns up in his smart car, got all the gear.

He's just not very good.

Not far from what I'd pick - think a tad unfair on Jack - so be it.

He can probably count himself unlucky to be left out.

I thought Bunn was injured?

Looks like Tshibola is going to be loaned out if he isn't injured today, not in the 18.

Pleased to see a front trio of Albert, Kodjia and Ross Mc.

If we can actually get the ball quickly to them they could wreck havoc.

I think SB has just concluded at this point in his career he's much more effective in home games. Think he'll start both ours over xmas.

Bunn?

McCormack left of a front three (I guess)?

Can't really remember us ever doing well here and not feeling too confident about this one. Reckon it will be a stinker of a game whatever the result

I'd have kept faith with Gollini and given Tish a start, maybe a bit harsh on Grealish but he could be an impact sub with a point to prove.

Happy with the rest.

A better line up overall than v Norwich obviously.  But Bunn?  And Bacuna in ahead of Grealish?  Bizarre.  I'm ok with the front three though.  McCormack will play down the middle, with Kodjia coming in from the left.  Time for Ross to step up.

If Bunn's not been fit enough to be on the bench recently, why does he now start?

If Bunn's not been good enough to be on the bench recently, why does he now start?

Maybe PLG now has a slight injury

Gardner is only slightly better than Westwood (only very, very slightly). Personally, I would've had Grealish instead of Gardner.

Good to see Baker back. Hope it's not rushed as he'd be good to try and keep long term for the campaign ahead.

I'd have Gollini for Bunn, but apart from that pretty much what I'd pick, and that front 3 would be my first choice from the players we have.

Bunn has been injured which is why he's not been on the bench.

I have no confidence in Bunn. Didn't think Gollini did much wrong in the last game. Guess it confirms we will be getting a new keeper in Jan.
Title: Re: QPR vs Aston Villa match thread
Post by: Can Gana Be Bettered!?!? on December 18, 2016, 11:31:51 AM
Regarding Gollini, Bruce has pretty much tried out a lot of players since being here, presumably to see what they can do, is Bunn just not getting his chance?
Title: Re: QPR vs Aston Villa match thread
Post by: Risso on December 18, 2016, 11:32:43 AM
Bunn is a truly awful keeper, not even good enough to be a reserve at this level.

I like Gollini. Not sure dropping him is a good idea, feels like he's being punished for Elphick's mistake.

Think it is a massive hint that we will be getting a new keeper in January.

As for the team, we'll have to see if McCormack is central and Kodjia is wide or vice versa.

Post by: Clark W Griswold on December 18, 2016, 11:34:19 AM
Really pleased Baker is back, and never thought I'd say that. Gardner the only one that seems like a bit of a curve ball, but if Tsibola is not up to it for whatever reason I suppose there aren't many other options.

I said 3-1 before the teams were announced but now I've seen that Bunn is in the line up I am convinced we will keep a clean sheet.

Glad to see Westwood and Flabby benched. Hope Gardner performs better than he did last time out - can see Grealish on for him later on. Not a fan of Bunn but equally not convinced by Gollini. New, experienced goalie in January please.

Trouble is with Jack though, he flounces around half heartedly most of the time with no urgency and this slows down the attacks and the build up of play, allowing the opposition to regroup and organise. He's a talented player though and I would have him on for the last 20 mins of nearly every match either to try to unlock the opposition with something classy or to help keep the ball depending on the circumstances.

Not good enough from Bruce. Bunn is rubbish. Gardner? And fat shit and Gestede on the bench...sigh. That pair of cumbersome fucks, stealing a living.

Besides that, ok.

I rate GoIllini-why drop him after Norwich, but not after Leeds? Strange creatures are football managers. Gardner is definitely a favourite.

I think we'll lose today. Hopefully the three up front will do the business. Come on Villa. Prove me wrong.

Bunn starting is a joke, the worst keeper I've seen playing for the club. Gollini must be off in Jan if the kid from Manchester Utd is coming in.

The bench in horribly unbalanced too, four forwards. Huge game for McCormack this

Down the middle I expect with Kodjia on left
Title: Re: QPR vs Aston Villa match thread
Post by: Matt Collins on December 18, 2016, 11:54:44 AM
It is a big game for McCormack but playing on the left isn't going to play to his strengths
I guess it could be closer to 4411 with Bacuna wide, but that would leave a lot of emphasis on Gardner . . .

Agbonlahor on the bench. No. Fuck off! And off some more. Until you get back to Bodymoor. Then fuck off from there to Kingsbury Water Park and feed the ducks. Then fuck off. Then re-fuck off until you reach the M6 where you can fuck off to the North. And finally FUCK OFF!

Westwood on the bench. Good. Although when or why you would want to bring him on when you could put a bucket and a sponge in the centre circle to better effect is one to ponder.

Grealish on the bench. Tough tit. Come on and score or set up the winner. Nothing less will impress me.

Agbonlahor. Fuck off!

Bunn is worse than Guzan. I suspect some in the team are moaning to Bruce about others in the team and he is responding to it.  Elphick clearly has a low opinion of Gollini so Bruce responds by dropping them both.  Gardner is clearly favoured but his performances have been every bit as bad as Westwood's.  Tshibola is the new Traore.  "We have our reasons but they are not for publication".  He will be off in January.  Sunderland or Boro.

Setting him up for a fail. Both Grealish and Ayew is better out left. Bacunas natural position is mid right.
Seems like him , Gardner and Jedinak playing makeshift positions to accommodate for RMC up top.

The passing thing is pretty much due to us never having a spare man running into space. For a side deploying two wingers we move the ball forward really slowly and our players always have to beat a man.

Am sat at the Real Madrid, Kashima game in Yokohama. And Kashima, a Japanese league team, play far better football than we do. And they're playing Real Madrid.

The thing I notice more than anything in the championship is how much the refs blow up for fouls. Very very strict.

That's great play by Kodjia to keep the ball alive. Harsh penalty, though.

Bollocks

In general, I fucking hate watching us play. We are boring. It'd help to send Hutton and Gardner to the moon.

State of Kodjia's shirt & ref doesn't give the foul

It's not the best advert for the strength of UA's shirts!

Pretty shoddy penalty.

How hard is it to place a football in the top corner from twelve yards?

He has a decent scoring rate from the spot. If it was that easy, every penalty ever would be scored.

I'd say that with a whole goal to aim at, not putting the ball at the exact height that a keeper would want should be pretty easy.

If footballers were as disciplened about practicing penalties as rugby players are about their kicking, you'd see far fewer saved

Clive Woodward tried to get Southampton players to do this but they just couldn't get them to stop dicking around in training

So how come every penalty ever doesn't go in?

Because sometimes players take really shit, lazy penalties, like Kodjia just did.

Why did I leave church early for this? Kids' nativity had more organisation than this rabble. Feeble is the best word I can think of.

We need Radio Russon again to relieve the boredom.
next show v Burton on Boxing Day. get your requests in now (but absolutely no U2, Snow Patrol or guff of a similar nature)

Some Field Mice and Close Lobsters would be nice. I'm working that day so will tune in if I'm not busy.

McCormack has been awful, will be lucky if not subbed at the break. Kodjia clearly has the better of Onouha now that he is down the middle. Gardner, Adamoah and Kodjia really picked things up last 15 - 20 mins too.

I'd be thinking bring Grealish on for Hutton at half time. Bacuna to right back and really go for it. McCormack ten mins to improve

But that's the point. Surely a bit of defensive shoring up would be more in order. Elph just for the numbers

..........Westwood leading ..........    for those who can't work it out. (Silent night)

Jedinak has turned into Peter Kaye the last 10 mins.

What's that all about?
Just whacking it anywhere.
A reference to the old John smiths advert. ........sorry

Give it away? He has to get the ball first.

There is of course that which needs to be a part of the equation.

Thankfully QPR are woeful so we'll hopefully get through this.

Ayew would be infinitely more likely to help us keep the ball even if our shape went even more to shite. Westwood is the worst of both worlds.

Well...there we go. I thought we were the less bad side so deserved it in that much. We looked better when we did the simple stuff well, i.e. passing and keeping possession.

'Ave it!!!!

Turned into?...

Being fair, he is good at digging out possession but not so hot on doing something constructive with it. He sort of reminds me of half a Dennis Mortimer...
