Title: QPR v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread
Post by: UK Redsox on December 14, 2016, 10:40:10 AM
Sky Bet Championship
Sunday December 18
Kick-off: 12 noon
Loftus Road

Since some people are already using other threads to suggest lineups, we'd better have a thread

Too early this!
Too early for kick off.
Too early to start a thread after last night.
I really don't know what to make of this match now.

Will add mine in here too;

For Sunday hope Baker is fit then I'd do for;

                Gollini
Bacuna Chester Baker Amavi
        Jedinak Tshibola
               Gardner
Grealish            McCormack
                Kodjia

Sarkic
Cissokho
Gestede
RHM
Hutton
Hale
Ayew

Got to get energy & strength into centre midfield, we started well under Bruce with 3 in centre and need to back to that until he can buy a player to go alongside Jedinak who is better than what we have.  Have included Hale on the bench as the couple of games I've seen him in he seem up for fight, also Lyden not yet fit to include.  Hutton, Cissohko & Ayew get seats by default for me, hopefully all 3 will be gone alongside Westwood & Gabby soon.

When did we last beat QPR at Loftus Road?

Just seems like Selhurst Park a ground we never win at.

1-1.

0-0

We're the third lowest scorers in the league and we just don't do away wins. Add QPR to the list of crap teams in this league we can't beat.
Title: Re: QPR v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread

Keeper & back four will be the same as there's no alternatives.
Bacuna did well last time he started in midfield at Reading so put him in with Jedinak and Tishbola, then up front it has to be time to give Hepburn-Murphy his chance.
Pair him up with McCormack or Gestede and leave Grealish in a free role behind them.
Kodjia and Ayew have to be dropped, sold in Ayew's case.
It doesn't give us much width but I don't see how we can play the system we have been playing when we don't have anyone who can play as a lone centre-forward.

I am confident that they will have been given a rocket after last night and we will see a better performance as a result. The team will not the same.

Away win 2-0 and we all have a merry Christmas basking in the reflected glory.

Bruce has said he'll make changes.
I fully expect that Ayew, Grealish, Westwood (aka the Invisible man) Elphick and Agbonlahor will be dropped.

Gollini
Hutton
Elphick
Chester
Amavi
Adomah
Jedi
Tish
Grealish
Kodjia

442 formation.

Still lose but might have some extra bite.

2-1 QPR

QPR 0 Aston Villa 2 (RHM 67, Grealish 83).

A warrior-like reaction to recent setbacks, 80℅ possession, QPR played off the park, 3 solid points and there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home...

Just seems like Selhurst Park a ground we never win at.

1-1.

Nov 1991, 1-0 Yorke scored. Our only other wins there against QPR in about 24 visits were August 1977 and December 1985.

The Football League’s desperate attempt to make us return even a single ticket for an away match takes us to West London on the Sunday before Christmas for yet another TV appearance. This is another ground we’ve been to plenty of times, it’s got no better since the last one and in fact there hasn’t been much change since the first time we went there apart from the prices going up, and up, and up. You still can’t see one of the goals from most of the seats upstairs and you still have to walk halfway round the ground when you find your ticket’s for the other part to the one where you’ve been queuing for the past fifteen minutes. They’ve had an assortment of ultra-rich directors and owners over the years, much good it’s done them, and were guilty of breaking the FFP rules two seasons ago but they still haven’t been punished. Ian Holloway is now their manager and the least said on that publicity-hungry subject the better.

By now the table should start to be looking a bit more realistic and although a draw would be good, this is the sort of place that we should be going to and getting three points if we want to be looking to get promoted. The fact that Ian Holloway will almost certainly be saying something dead controversial and outspoken in the days before the match will make winning even better.

Things newfooty fans won’t know: Why QPR used to be on Match of the Day so often. They also won’t have any idea about how many matches used to be on Match of the Day. It’s a different world now.

2-0 QPR, 0-0 at jalf time with both teams offering nothing, a mistake by Elphick in the 67th minute puts them 1-0 up, we lethargically pass the ball around midfield and defence for 25 minutes without looking to really penetrate there defence and then they wrap it up in injury time making the most of a short back by Jedinak.

Glad we got rid of the stupid "Score draw" and "Bore draw" options.

I've now been able to select "Draw", just as I did against Wigan, so we are going to win.

No need to thank me.

Two things are against us - and subject to Aston Villaisms.

1. It is on TV.
2. It will be one of those 'you're playing Aston Villa so it's get your season back on track week'.

1-0 QPR.

yep, we cant keep looking at the same sh*te from the same players. there isnt a single one of the forward four from last night that deserves to keep their place nor Westwood but unfortunately its likely some inevitably will. Granted Loftus Road if I recall is a very tight pitch so lads need to be able to hold their own physical against these.

If Westwood and Flabby are in the team we lose; leave them out and we win. Hopefully Bruce will see the folly of last night's debacle and pick a more balanced and threatening team to stick it to the half-arsed manager who used to be famous.

I've gone for a 1-0 Villa win and fancy McCormack to score

Injury and illness permitting would like to see us go with Gollini, Bacuna, Baker, Chester, Amavi, Jedinak, Gardner, Tshibola, Adomah, McCormack, Kodjia

Subs - Sarkic, Elphick, Green, RHM, Gestede, Cissokho, Ayew

                     Jedinak
            Gardner, Tshibola
Adomah                           Grealish
                    Kodjia

the only alternative would be to bring Ross in for Gardner and push him a little closer to Kodjia. In reality, it will be the normal back 5, Jedinak, Gardner, Westwood, Adomah, Kodjia, Gestede

Surely Bruce will see that we need changes after the crap at Norwich.
Our midfield is so unbelievably poor.
He must give Bacuna and Tish a game at least they run and get stuck in.
Also, what's happened to RHM?
There must be a couple of the youngsters that would offer more than we saw the other night.
0-0 if Bruce gets it sorted.

I keep saying this but then I see the team sheet...on paper I fancy us to win every game in this league...then reality bites.
Hopefully he plays players in their proper positions and gives the midfield a change up with Bacuna or Tish or both in there. It can't be worse than Norwich.....can it?

Careful, we don't want to look into this in too much detail. We might find out that the Russians have screwed up their hacking, meaning that Mr Woodhall has actually been elected President of the United States

I'd go with this side, if everyone is available

Gollini
Hutton Chester Baker Amavi
Jedinak Bacuna
Adomah McCormack Grealish
Kodjia

It would be good to see our own Russian involved.

What was that (factually incorrect) from the 90's again... Why is Andrei Kanchelskis so fast? Cos he's always rushin'

I don't know for sure, but I think the Princess Victoria on the Uxbridge Road is both far enough from - and close enough to - the ground that it'd be ok.

Easier to take the 207 bus from Shepherds Bush/Shepherds Bush Market tubes (westbound) or Acton Town (eastbound). You'll probably have to walk for 5 mins to Uxbridge Road if you go to Acton.

Is walkabout in Shepherds Bush still going? Spent a few epic Sundays there after a heavy early stint in the Church in Kentish Town a good few years back.

Very good.

I'd go with Bacuna, Jedinak and Tshibola in midfield, Adomah and Grealish wide of Kodjia tomorrow.

We lack enegery and legs in midfield these past three games. Bacuna and Tshibola have pace to drive the game on and get advanced of the forwards. Bacuna did this well against Reading.

While Grealish and Adomah are both wingers. We crave a little balance.

Can you honestly say that Grealish is a winger as he has no pace and he will cut back inside?
I just want to see him driving into the penalty area, being more positive and not picking the ball off our back four which he has been doing the last couple of games.

Grealish is a winger in the same sort of way as Hutton is a defender.

Grealish, Tshibola and Jedinak in the middle. Bacuna right back. Adomah and Ayew on the wings. Kodjia up top. Not 100% happy with it, but feel it's the best we have.

While I think Grealish can be played both inside or out left , but Ads point is valid if you consider balance in our midfield. We already got a stationary (but strong) tower in Jedinak. While everyone agree Jedi is our most important player he is not very mobile and need 2 midfielders to give him time to position himself to break off attacks and start counters. Ideally those midfielders need to bring what Jedi lacks...that is primarily pace and mobility. Especially away (Leeds, Norwich) then Bruce makes the mistake  by bringing one of those (Westwood) back and leaving Grealish alone in front like so:

                                    Grealish

                 Jedinak                             Westwood

This resulted in 3 bad things for Villa

1) Westwood who hardly ever play the ball forward (21 passes in 90 min and only 5 forward at Norwich), kicks it  left to Jedi or right to Hutton in our buildup...that effectively turn it back to the opposition.
2) Jedinak is slightly unbalanced to the right and can't give the even slower  Elphick the extra time and cover he needs. Westwood is made of paper (1 challenge all game) and brings no help for Elphick or Hutton.
3) Grealish is left our sole midfield offensive playmaker...now despite all his talent he rarely combines to bring our forwards in play with one touch. He prefers to run at the defenders with the ball, something that might work coming from the side where he facing 1 or 2 defenders...but in the middle he got swarmed.

The remedy (though not perfect) might be playing him left where Ayew  sometimes play (like Ad suggested). The other option is to use 2 cental mid infront  of Jedi. Like this:

             Grealish                             Bacuna

                                 Jedinak

I prefer the idea Ads advocating with Grealish LF and someone like Gardner paired with Bacuna.. Then you can sub Grealish for Ayew and maybe RMC for Gardner without rearranging the entire formation. Bruce got this right in some of his earlier games I think (against Reading for sure) but have since then screwed up his own recipe. Bacuna who had some good games before his short injury spell have been left weltering his form on the bench in favor of Westwood (sigh). Ayew have sulked from being moved aside to accommodate Gabby, something that also seems to have impacted Kodjia.

Hopefully we get something from QPR. 1-1 ?

Big test for Bruce. Needs to make wholesale changes to the line up and get a performance out of whoever he picks. If Westwood or Flabby are in the starting lineup I'll break into a serious frown and start having the first seeds of doubt about him

Anybody think that if Baker is fit he may go 3-5-2?

Adomah and Amavi would be decent wing backs, Jedinak and Bacuna in the middle with Jack in the hole and RabC and Kodjia up top.

Baker really impressed me in his run of games that coincided with us going on a good run, then 2 defeats in 3 without him. We looked really solid with him.

However, I'm not saying it's all down to him why we've looked shit against Leeds and Norwich, but I'd feel much happier with him in the team rather than Captain Calamity.

So, no Tish in the squad again today.
What exactly is going on there?

Gabby and Westwood dropped to the bench, but when your only real option is to replace Westwood with Gardner, then you know we have real problems to resolve.
