Not surprised - Missus booked us tickets for boxing day middle of last week and not many left in the other tiers.
Witton upper was only place at the time where they had any significant spares

Hopefully a good performance and resounding win for the fans who are going for a Boxing Day piss up or because they've had tickets for Christmas. That would hopefully get the bug back for them and see them return.

Knowing Villa though we'll lose 0-1 and be back to 30,000 against Leeds.

Update from the Club

Fantastic news, Villans, that the Trinity Road Upper will be opened for the first time this season for the Boxing Day visit of Burton Albion FC.

Tickets in that area will be first available to season ticket holders who held seats in that section in 2015/16 from Monday – and then they’ll be on general sale from Thursday.

I sat up there once, we beat Bolton 4-0 in 2008. Me and my old man had free tickets from his work so used them as a change from the Holte. It was like being in a different ground rather than stand. When we scored everyone stood up, clapped politely and sat back down again in silence. Never again.

And what's wrong with that? But it's  not easy doing that four times in a single match😥
Wouldn't it be nice if the entire ground behaved with a bit of decorum like UT instead of hugging and kissing and aimlessly pointing at away fans when we score attempting to sing "who arr yaa" at them.

Why have all the concourse lights been on for every game this season, even though there's not been a sausage up there?

As a tight fisted bloke who moans when the hall light is left on, turns the thermostat down to near freezing and encorages jumpers & blankets instead of having the gas fire on, this really grinds my gears. It must cost a fortune on the electric!

My mate got a couple of free tickets sitting there a couple of years ago.  We got a few hard stares due to our 'encouragement and enthusiasm' during the game.

I can recall one slightly older couple who we had to ask to get by to get to our seats who had their blanket and flask out. They did not say a word to each other or any other person during the whole ninety minutes even when we scored.

If they switched the lights out in the Upper Tier a drone would probably fly into it.

Never mind the upper tier anyway: the central section of the middle tier is so sparsely populated that they could probably get by with a few reading lamps.

That really gets on my nerves, we have a huge directors section that is always more than half empty, right in the middle of the Trinity. It looks terrible.

Why not reduce the size of this area and make more seats (the best in the ground) available to fans?

I reckon he's talking crap. While it's obviously selling well you can't get 40,000 in the ground unless the UT has people in it and there's still loads of tickets on Seatwave being sold by the club for other areas of the ground.

Really?? The club have confirmed that the upper Trinity will be reopened for Boxing Day. And, incidentally, the guy "talking crap" on the turnstile today said the crowd would be 29k as we entered the ground. We talk to him every home game and he's always spot-on.

Yes really. They may be hoping for 40K but there's no way we've sold 40K already. That would be the the rest of the ground sold out plus about half the UT.

I actually found it a very strange question.  Most Villa fans I know are interested in how many tickets we've been allocated for away games, how many we've sold and how many we get for home games.  This season is especially interesting as the away support has been amazing.  I'm always keen to discover allocations etc.

There is actually a site called awayfan.com that covers this kind of thing. This shows that its perfectly normal to show interest in away support.  Our fans have been pictured a few times on it, including at Sheffield Wednesday & Barnsley.

most fans are interested in their clubs support  I'd be genuinely interested to discover why they wouldn't be?

Approx 37,500 sold so far.

Quote
Steve Bruce spoke of our “quite remarkable support” as he hailed the travelling faithful – and the home support who are on course to sell out the Boxing Day Burton game.

Bruce was thrilled to see such a huge following at Loftus Road, with 3,000+ on hand to cheer the team on.

And the manager was visibly in awe when told post-game that the Brewers match was tracking to be a full house this festive period.

Bruce is eager to give our fans plenty to cheer about, with 37,500 tickets sold so far.

He said: “I’d like to thank the fans who came down to QRR to support us. I thought they were wonderful.

“I have been told we’re edging towards a full house on Boxing Day against Burton. That tells you everything you need to know about our club.

“It could be 42,500 and against Burton – no disrespect to them – that’s a quite remarkable turnout.

“Let’s hope we can go and win back to back games and mount a challenge.

“It’s so critical to stay in touch. We’re edging towards half way. Let’s keep going."

The Holte End is now completely sold out for Burton, while there are only single seats in most areas of the ground – except Upper Trinity where there is decent availability at present.

Good point.

When we were in the *cough* premier tier, the club used to categorise home games based on the opponents, presumably based on perceived demand, and the price was adjusted accordingly. Police and security costs might also be a factor.

This really pisses me off too. It's just so wrong.
I'm a season ticket holder but I expect it also means our fans are paying a fair chunk more to see the Leeds game than for Burton - even though Leeds is a Thursday night and live on TV. Haven't all our home TV games this season been the more expensive ones to watch? Forest, Newcastle, Wolves and now Leeds - all games when the club should be doing all it can to get more of our fans to attend, not putting them off. It'll happen again v Blues.
The powers that be at Villa will learn one day hopefully.

As we look to continue our unbeaten run at Villa Park this season, our fixture against Leeds United is selling well and we've decided to re-open the Trinity Road Upper for this fixture.

Somebody has counted them and there is 230 left across the ground. How much you can trust the system remains to be seen, but that would leave us with 39,400 home tickets sold.

They had sold 2200 on the weekend, so you'd think there would be 42,000 odd on the gate, which is staggering.

42,000, for the most ridiculous league fixture in Villa Park's history.

What's ridiculous about the Villa being at home at 3pm on Boxing Day?
That sound's normal to me. We've always got bigger crowds on Boxing Day, but in recent seasons we've had a lot of live TV games at times that tend to spoil Boxing Day plans for families, and a result the attendances have been affected.
Nice to be back to normal as far as I'm concerned, and playing a club like Burton - who deserve huge respect for the progress they've made - is much more of a game to look forward to than watching us play Man U or Spurs.

I don't think Ads is arguing that the 3pm boxing day kick off is ridiculous, more the fact the once - Champions of Europe are playing a club that had never been out of non-league before this decade.

You're correct. Aston Villa v Burton fucking Albion in a league game is beyond parody. Coupled with the fact it will be the 4th highest gate in English football makes it just odd.

It is bizarre. The gate tells of a story of how simply massive this club is. That it really doesn't take much to get fans coming back; hope of a better future and an owner who actually cares. And what a ridiculous situation we find ourselves in to be playing a side like Burton on Boxing Day sitting 13th in the table..

If Burton had been the Thursday game and we were playing say Preston Boxing Day then we'd have sold more for Preston.
My point is that it's the fact that it's the combination of being one of the cheaper games, and it's 3pm Boxing Day, that is the attraction for Villa fans. More so than playing say Stoke in a Premier League game at 5.30.

Isn't it about 2600 we give now? Burton have sold around 2200 so far.

What annoys me is they are paying £25, Leeds are paying £35. Why is the same seat £10 more a few days later for a Leeds fan?

leeds charged us £37 a few weeks ago... but i would like our club to set an example and not screw their fans, or those of forest, wolves, newcastle etc either.

Probably because now that it's sold out, more season ticket holders have now decided that it's worth putting them on sale if they can't go.

Whether or not they get sold on seatwave, these are already sold tickets and will be included in the attendance.

I always thought our home match against Northampton Town in the old first division in the 65 - 66 season was the most ridiculous league fixture played at VP, but I think this one tops that. There was only just over 10k at that match, one of the lowest attendances in our history and we lost 2 - 1. A chap called Willie Hamilton scored for us, the older ones will remember him.

Most of our history suggests we are above playing no mark outfits like these none league merchants from a town full of Villa and Derby fans.

Here were are, for the immediate thanks to Dandy old Randy, playing a side whose ground you could fit in the upper Holte, in front of a full house. Ridiculous.

I don't understand the view that it's a ridiculous fixture, they are in our league.

It's like suggesting Everton v Solihull Moors is going to be a possible league fixture in the future.

Not so long back, Burton were not even in the leagues, let alone the same one as us.  On merit, the two sides are going to be facing each other but I do get the "ridiculous" angle.

I think Burton's achievements have been outstanding and coupled with our decline, we are where we are.

Regarding the game being a sell out, I will hold my hands up and state that had I been asked a month ago what the attendance would be today, I certainly wouldn't have suggested 40,000 +.  It is another example of the potential of our support.  The challenge for me on this front is to see if we can get another 3 or 4,000 regularly, between now and May, averaging 35,000 per game.  We still have some potentially big games coming up as well as the Derby.  Now we've hit the 40,000 figure once, I'm hopeful that we can do it at least once more between now and the end of the season.

Hopefully in a few years time we'll look back to playing likes of Burton as a nice bit of nostalgia as we go back to 2007-10 mode.

Today's our equivalent of Man. City playing Macclesfield in league fixtures as they did in 1998-99.

In my first season as a regular at VP, we payed teams like Rochdale & Tranmere.  I was fortunate enough to be taken to be taken to a few away games and that enabled me to steal a march on many younger Villa fans in the popular count up of "grounds visited".

For me, one of the good things about this season is that we are totally removed from the boring monopoly of the top 5 or 6 in the Premiership.  I haven't enjoyed my football as much for many years, I'm keen to watch it again, I'm keen to talk about it again and cannot wait for the next game to come around.  Part of the reason is the magic of the league we are in and the ability for anybody to beat anybody on the day.  Burton are an example of what can be achieved.

Does that boring Monopoly include Leicester? The reason that the Premier league has been shit for us is because we've been shit ourselves for too long.

We live up to our proud name in almost every respect, apart from the actual kicking of footballs, in which case we consistently punch below our considerable weight. Burton on the other hand are punching well above theirs, so I respect them for what they have achieved.

Here they are scrapping it out in front of a crowd of 40,000 in the second tier. Imagine if we had their sense of determination and sheer bloody-mindedness in achieving all we're capable of? We'd be in the Champions League instead of the Chumps League.

The day we show that kind of application and attainment according to our size, on the pitch where it really matters, week in, week out, is the day I'll feel comfortable snorting at having to play the likes of Burton in the league.

For you, that may well be correct.  However, I was speaking for myself, hence starting the sentence: "For me.."

I am enjoying the season immensely.  As we have discovered, there are no easy games and anyone can beat anyone on the day.  There are some top class managers and players in the division and the league is unbelievably competitive.

Do I want to stay in this division?  Of course not.  That doesn't mean that I'm not enjoying the experience and if I'm honest, I have far greater respect for the division than I did 12 months ago, when I knew little about it.
